a wonderful start to an online book of shadows

It is currently two in the morning, but I really want to start this. so here are the things I know so far.

Meditation is essential for grounding yourself, and boy oh boy have I been really needing that lately. It’s such a nice time to just relax. Focus on nothing and everything. Be calm. Recollect yourself and your energy

Incense is helpful for cleansing. It hasn’t been warm lately so I haven’t been burning much. I burn it with my window open so it isn’t overwhelming. But with the window open it gets very cold. I’ve found that incense has been very good at keeping the bad vibes away, specifically around the basement.

Nature is also a great way to ground yourself. Again, I wish it were warmer so I could chill outside, but it’s wet and cold. There is this one tree in the front that has fallen that is great to sit on, lay on, and just be at peace. Without leaves on the surrounding trees, it’s comforting to see the stars.

Plants, related to nature, are something that I’m very interested in. I really want to grow my own herbs and maybe even food, but it’s difficult having cats around. I had a planter with some sage, basil, and spearmint to start growing before planting outside, but the cats knocked it over and I have to start over. I have plenty of seeds, but it can be frustrating. I’ll use this as a learning experience.

Essential Oils I have a lot of, but I honestly don’t know much about. I know they have properties, but I don’t know how to use them I guess? What’s the best way to implement essential oils into daily life?

Crystals are also very intriguing to me. I have a small piece of rose quartz, and another small piece of I think amethyst. I know about cleansing them and placing intention on them, but I’m again not sure how. 

Moon Water is something I know very little about. I’d like to know more about that as well.

Sigils I have tried but I never recorded the results, or anything I noticed. This is a large part of why I made this blog, so I can document things. I will probably do another post about sigils at some point.

Spells/Spellcasting confuse me. There are chants, but also I’ve heard about opening a circle and such, which I don’t know anything about. You use a wand to do it, but you can also use a pencil/pen or your finger, so I’ve heard. Definitely looking into this more.

Obviously I don’t know a lot, but that’s why I’m here! Here for a helpful community and to just document progress in my journey with witchcraft.

Scorpio sun females tend to have big foreheads.

Sagittarius suns/moons & Cancer suns/moons are naturally attracted to each other.

Some females w/ Lilith in Taurus tend to be really tall. (example : Ciara & Megan thee Stallion)

Cancers are usually seen as “marriage material”, and will usually have many suitors. 

It’s true, Aquarius have a god complex. 

It’s not uncommon for Aquarians to look “unreal” naturally. Some look like anime characters or just an otherworldly being. 

Your IC / Imum Coeli sign is what you are as a child, while your MC / Midheaven sign is what you are as an adult. (example- Aquarius IC = being ‘weird’ & the outcast at school & at home. Leo MC = Finally getting the attention they didn’t receive as a child & begin to shine)

People with Jupiter in Libra tend to be effortlessly attractive.

Aquarius Mercury people are harsh, sharp & direct with their words. Will definitely hurt your feelings. Harsher than sagittarius mercuries.

It’s common for Aries women to be tomboyish, more masculine & not as feminine compared to other women.

Venus in 10th house makes someone well known for their looks. Most people with this placement grow into their looks when they are adults. It’s kind of like venus-saturn energy. When they were younger their looks weren’t as enhanced/noticeable.

Your midheaven sign is the zodiac sign you’ll look up to. (ex: Midheaven in Cancer, you might admire celebrities or people that are Cancers.) It’s what you most likely strive to be like & what you are meant to be in your adult years.

Having Aquarius/Capricorn/Saturn placements can result in someone having dimples or prominent cheekbones.

Natal Venus Retrograde men are more in-tune with their emotions compared to a direct Venus man. Venus retrograde men usually understand women better, the feminine side of themselves & love deeper than a venus direct male. (Basically more vulnerable emotionally.) Its common for them to be into music & art & tying their emotions, feelings & personal experiences into their projects. (i.e. Drake & XXXtentaction, both men known for being open about their emotions and successfully putting it into their music.)

Venus Retrograde individuals are trendsetters & are the “outcast”. They don’t fit society & don’t fit into the crowd. They are different and go against peoples normal views of beauty.

Jupiter in 7th individuals are usually destined to get married this lifetime.

Leo Sun w/ Aquarius Moon & Aquarius Sun w/ Leo Moon, have huge egos and cockiness that is out the roof.

North Node in Aquarius individuals are meant to be trail blazers in whatever they are passionate about. 

Having North Node in the 6th or Virgo house can make someone a good lyricist, book writer, or does speeches.

The sign of your Jupiter is your ‘highest form’. The best version of you is the sign your Jupiter is in. ( For example: Natal Jupiter in Sagittarius = be carefree, happy & optimistic, Leo Jupiter = be self assured, confident & creative, etc.)

Lilith in Aries is an explosive placement. It most of the time makes someone addicted to sex. A placement that definitely needs to be watched.

Everyday Magickal Actions

Some people (like me) don’t have the time, resources and/or energy to perform complex spells or rituals every day. Some common causes of this are:

Depression

Busy life

Anxiety

Chronic illness/pain

Disability

Financial insecurity

All of these are very common problems in the witch community, and it’s perfectly fine not to have a huge collection of crystals or sacrifices for the gods! There are many simple, low-energy ways to perform witchcraft that are no lesser than the above practices. Here are some ways to practice the craft this way:

Stirring a drink counter-clockwise banishes negative energy

Stirring clockwise embues energy of your choosing (just focus on it while you stir!)

Saying hello to plants/animals in the wild will increase your connection with nature

So does cleaning up litter on the side of the road.

Tap gently on the palm of your hand with your index finger helps with anxiety and concentration, and is a good way to stim without drawing attention, for those of you who do so

Put bugs gently outside instead of squishing them. They are smol beings, protect them.

Set a small portion of your food aside for any god/deity/faeries/spirit to eat (or just as an offering to the universe).

Throw a sprinkle of moon water (water that’s been left out under moonlight) on a plant to help it grow!

Sigils are literally a life saver. Make some!

And sometimes, just sitting and feeling the energy of the universe around you is a magick unto itself. So don’t be hard on yourself! You are magick, and magick is you; you don’t have to prove yourself to the universe: it’s already chosen you!

Oh, and say hello to the cherry blossoms, they will hold something special for you in return.

A Green Witch’s Herb Bread

This is a bread recipe I have grown so familiar with that it’s taken up root in my bones. If you’ve got a good relationship with the bread and can hear when it’s springy and when it needs to be kneaded, you can forego the measuring cups too. This will make a honeyed brown bread, perfect for Mabon (as it incorporates wheat, honey, and the hearth), or it can be formed into circular loaves with the Solar Cross cut into them for other witchy occasions.

1 packet yeast

4 cups half white, half whole wheat flour

Several tablespoons honey

1 bottle dark beer (like a porter) - must be room temperature. Trust me on this one.

1 egg, beaten

Herbs of your choice

Put yeast and honey in a bowl and add the beer. Stir gently and allow to rest til foamy (about 5 to 10 minutes, longer if needed). Add pinch of salt and beaten egg. Mix in flour gradually, using a wooden spoon if you can, until the dough forms one cohesive mass.

Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead it! Use short, rapid strokes in cross directions, folding the dough over in half every other time or so. Work your intent deep into the dough at this time, and incorporate any herbs you wish to add (for Mabon: Use rosemary, crumbled walnuts, and rhubarb). Fully cover the dough in plastic wrap or a clean dish towel and let rise for at least an hour. Return, and punch down the dough, re-wrapping it and letting it rise another hour or two. Form the dough into two equal loaves (you can form a pan shape out of oven-safe tinfoil if you need), cut a design into the top to allow for splitting, lightly dust with flour, and bake at 450 degrees for about 20 minutes.

Let cool for at least another 15 minutes before cutting to serve! I’ve had nothing but excellent results with this bread, and even when it looks like the crust has been burnt to all hell, it has usually done no such thing and the springy and fluffy insides make all the time worth it. Plus, the herbs can be substituted seasonally for each feast day and celebration!

Negative things about the signs

Aries: Why must you be so damn impatient? When someone is speaking and they are speaking kind of slow for your taste or whatever you interrupt them and start talking about something else, preferably about yourself. Just no.

Taurus: Ok girl just chill, you are not always right and even though you know you’re not you’re just too damn stubborn to admit it that you were wrong. Seriously chill.

Gemini: Omg make up your damn mind, do you want this or do you want that? You can’t play people like that. Oh and think before you speak because you tend to hurt people’s feelings because you’re not really thinking that it might hurt them or just don’t care. Please no more.
