"do not recoin OR use if x"
what else r they supposed to do then
you do know that people cant choose whether they identify with a term right. all youre doing is putting a name to an experience. youre not creating the experience from a blank void
not giving them either option is not a good boundary because realistically it will get broken either way that way for that reason. either people you dont like will use your name for that experience or they will create their own. you cant both eat your cake and still have it

Whenever I bring up the fact gender is a social construct and not linked to "sexed brains", transmeds will always come out of the woodwork and ask me "so you think gender is a choice?"
And I sigh because this line of thinking is so obviously meant to defend against cisgender bigots who believe trans people should not exist. Yeah. It's tempting to tell bigots "I have no choice but to be this way"/"I was born this way"/"I can't be changed" etc. But that just tells me you would be one of those bigots if being trans was theoretically found to be a choice. It tells me that if you had the option to change yourself to conform to a sick society, you would.
This might raise a few hackles but why does it even matter if gender is a choice or not? Your choices as an autonomous human being are still deserving of respect. Even if someone had chosen to transition just because they want to, and considers their gender to have changed, why does that matter? Do you believe that isn't a 'real' trans person? Do you believe they shouldn't be allowed to transition? If so, that is a slippery slope that will harm the 'actual' trans people you claim to protect by causing even more gatekeeping to gender affirming care.
Perisex people need to realize that having their identity as a trans person Proven By Science wouldn't actually convince bigots not to hate them or think they should be "fixed", in fact, pathologization would likely make it worse in many ways. This is coming from an intersex person, I literally have physical body variations visible to the naked eye and pericis people still do not believe I am real. The pathologization just gives bigots more reputable leverage against me to call me disordered. It does not help me and it will not help you.
Plenty of trans people feel their gender has changed, or is continually changing. Plenty of trans people feel as though it has always been the same. I believe and respect both sorts of people equally. I think everyone deserves acess to gender affirming care if they want it. I do not try to sort people into categories of who is deserving of the autonomy to change their body and who isn't, I just believe people when they tell me about their identity and what sort of body they want. It isn't that hard.

sometimes disability does mean inability. and that's fine. "disability doesn't mean inability" is fine, but please follow up with "inability doesn't mean a lack of worth"

AACPUNK
AACpunk is a movement that challenges ableism and promotes the acceptance and inclusion of all forms of communication. It stands for the inclusion of individuals who rely on Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC), including nonverbal individuals, neurodivergent people, and those with various communication challenges, whether temporary or permanent. It works to break down barriers such as prohibitive costs, restrictive protocols, and social stigma, ensuring that all individuals have equal access to AAC tools.
Flag meaning
The top blue is representing communication in all its forms
The red is for breaking of barriers, stereotypes and ableism
The light tan-brown for neurodivergence
The gray for self-determination
And the cobalt for free access
Flags by @kpopwerewolf
Person with AAC symbol by @blackholemojis
Core Beliefs of AACpunk:
• Communication is a right, not a privilege. No one should be denied access to AAC tools of any kind.
• All communication is valid. Whether someone uses text-to-speech devices, symbol boards, writing, gestures, or any other form of AAC, their voice matters.
• Rejecting ableism in communication. Society often devalues nonverbal and AAC users, treating them as lesser. AACpunk stands against this by demanding equal treatment and respect.
• Breaking barriers to AAC access. Many AAC users struggle to get the tools they need due to cost, medical gatekeeping, or stigma. AACpunk fights for free and open access to communication tools.
• Neurodivergent and disability pride. AACpunk is inherently tied to neurodivergent and disabled liberation, embracing identity without the need for “fixing” or forced conformity to verbal speech norms.
AACpunk is inherently supportive of:
• All individuals with verbal communication challenges, no matter how they express themselves.
• No-tech, low-tech, and high-tech AAC users.
• Individuals who are neurodivergent, disabled, and who choose AAC as their primary means of communication.
• Self-determination in communication choices, without societal pressure to conform to verbal norms.
• Accessible education, workplaces, and social spaces for all individuals, regardless of communication style.
• The ability to communicate anything, even content deemed controversial or inappropriate, including through symbol-based AAC.
• Free access to AAC tools, ensuring that economic barriers do not prevent communication.
AACpunk is inherently against:
• Speech supremacy and verbalism, the belief that spoken language is superior.
• Medical and educational systems that gatekeep access to AAC, preventing people from receiving the tools they need.
• Forced speech therapies and practices that demand conformity to verbal communication norms.
• The infantilization of AAC users, treating them as less than or incapable of making their own choices.
• The exclusion of AAC users from conversations about accessibility, rights, and inclusion.
• Dehumanizing attitudes toward nonverbal individuals and those who use AAC.

My personal comparison of AAC apps I have used!
TD snap: My favorite, it is not free but does have a 60 day free trial! You can upload boards from their website onto your AAC, and also post, save, and switch home pages! Available offline!
Pricing: It has a free 60 day trial, but you can trial hop! You'd just have to download your boards onto your device, log out, make a new account, start a free trial, and re-upload your boards onto the app!
Customization: You can change buttons sizes, colors (any color possible), the text colors, boarder colors, rearrange the text box, move around the side bar, it's basically fully customizable! Including MP3 files!
Negs: Doesn't support gifs, hard to learn settings but makes sense after awhile! Only works on Ipad, not iphone.
Coughdrop: I used this for about 2 months on the free trial, and it is harder to customize but can make word art! Works on iphone and ipad!
Pricing: Costs money, not sure if you can trial hop!
Customization: A few colors to choose from, better voices IMO, supports gifs!
Negs: Images vanish after awhile if you dont back up, but backing up took me hours personally. Offline doesn't work with custom voices on ipads.

PA DOC Sued for Discriminating Against Person with Disabilities: The Right to AAC in Prison
there was a recent press release from Disability Rights PA about current litigation happening in PA that is trying to ensure that John Topper, a man with Huntington's disease, can access an Augmentative/Alternative Communication device while incarcerated.
Currently, the DOC is denying him all access to any communication aids, forcing him to "communicate by typing notes on a tablet and passing it back and forth with the person he is attempting to communicate with. This tablet breaks frequently, and prison staff regularly prevent him from bringing the tablet with him everywhere in the prison...After returning from the hospital, the DOC denied him a working communication aid for ten days. As a result, he was only able to communicate with psychiatry staff via thumbs up and down gestures."
this has dramatically impacted Topper's wellbeing: " 'This has been such an emotional and mental struggle for me daily. Day-to-day routines are very hard without a means of effective communication and I have to struggle to have my daily needs met,' said John Topper, the plaintiff in the case. "
Topper cannot access healthcare, daily programming, or stay in contact with his family members. Prison staff refuse to provide any forms of communication aids for daily interactions, making it difficult and sometimes impossible for Topper to request things like toothpaste, toilet paper, or other daily needs. This is cruel, harmful punishment that highlights the types of carceral violence that disabled people face while incarcerated.
This lawsuit is suing to get Topper daily and continuous access to an AAC text to speech device. His counsel already bought him this device and the prison has it available, and yet they refuse to give it to him for pointless and arbitrary reasons. They've told Topper he has to choose between a wheelchair accessible cell and a cell with an outlet, they've told him that they were making his current tablet accessible but then said the only accessible adaptation they could add was a screen-reader, which his does not need, and have threatened and taken away his current tablet many times. The cruelty is the point.
It's vital as disabled people that we have solidarity with those most targeted by the state, and that we fight for our comrades currently incarcerated. Prisons are disabling and prisons target disabled people: we need to fight to make sure our comrades can get their needs met, and we need to fight to free them all!
keep an eye on Disability Rights PA and Pennsylvania Institutional Law Project for updates about Topper's case and for any steps the public can take to support him. I've reached out to ask about how to send letters to him/info for his commissary fund; I will update this post when I get more information.
disability justice means free them all!!

As someone who has higher support needs, if you think that a relationships impossible never give up. I have partner moving in on Wednesday, and they are really going to be living with me. This afternoon dad is going to help me clean room and my section of house, my partner is okay with everything that I deal with. They understand I'm semi verbal, they understand I have multiple meltdowns and shutdowns. They understand I need my sunglasses and noise cancel headphones in public. They understand I suffer incontinence and need diapers. They understand the rest of the stuff of my disability I haven't shared yet. Yet they still love me and they're going to be living with me. So never let someone tell you your disabilities mean you're not able to have love. Love is very possible, and I am lucky to have my partner.

all AAC should be completely free forever. no there shouldn't be "free versions of paid AAC apps" i mean like every single feature and option should be free forever and ever. we should not have to pay to communicate.

My go fund me !! For a wheelchair!
Basically my insurance is refusing me one against doctors wishes because its "unnecessary and too expensive", so I am taking it into my own hands to fund one myself.
Tumblr media
The one me and my doctor chose with my measurements my doctor helped me gather would be 3,230$ USD. I do NOT have that I have like 20$ to my name at max! I work part time and I am a full time student! I make 800$ a month, it would take me 4 months without eating, drinking, going to school, or using the internet for me to afford this! But realistically with all of my expenses it would take 8-10 months.

I think it is worth saying that some aac users can not make their own boards because of their disability. they maybe can not customize their aac. a lot of aac culture now is about how you customize your aac so I wanted to shout out everyone who can not.
