Slowly this thing develops. I had to fix the crotch of the stillsuit and then I didn't like the arm. Then I started working on the face and unexpected things started happening. Even though they were my original intention, I liked where it was going so I continued in that direction. I liked Villeneuve's DUNE so I used that suit design as well as the crysknife and sandstorm. For the larger piece I have waiting in the wings, I might make my own design choices for stillsuit and character design. Especially for Baron Harkonnen and Rabban (can I fit Feyd-Rautha in there?🤔) Anywhere, this is almost done. Ok! Serious attempt at this #Dune piece after dicking around for too long!. I had an idea and even though I don't love the idea and composition in terms of execution; it'll be mostly an exhibition of draftsmanship, which I'm not super comfortable with but, that's the only way I can show off the #TimotheeChalamet caricature. So I did a proper sketch instead of just drawing directly on the board like I'm some sort of "Jack Kirby" or something. Pft! With that said, while drawing the first sketch, I went for something more in my wheelhouse, an impressionistic montages with an influence from Toppi, Klimt and Mignola. That'll be my treat for doing a dope portrait! 😁 I also added a couple drawings I kinda forgot about: A promo drawing of Shani the Wanderer back when I was working on that and (probably) the first drawing of Bug-Man, when I stole my sister's college notebook and turned it into a sketchbook. I saw this manky little motivational video on Insta saying to draw for just 10 mins a day and it'll make a world of difference. I know that if I draw before my day at work, I am definitely in a better mood. So I'm sitting in bed with my makeshift drawing board (an idea from @terrymooreart), a bunch of index cards, a mechanical pencil, and extremely tired eyes and I started drawing. I made a replica #StarWars prop out of epoxy clay. It's my first time using the stuff so it was pretty slow going. A lot of sanding and sculpting with a dremel rotary tool (so I'm sure my lungs are now how they would have been if I started smoking in high school) and I have a lot of clay dust on my floor. It was fun! I'm probably going to donit again. Next time, I thinknits going to be Monster Clay and resin casting so I wouldn't have to sculpt the prongs individually. Or maybe... ... gasp!... ...3D printer!!! We'll see where I go with this. In the spirit of posting more, I found these copies of a comic book I got printed to convince the writer to print more comics. It so happens that I never sent the books for him to see and my nefarious plan did not come to fruition. Though, having found the books on my shelf, I am reinvigorated in my want to make these books a physical reality! We have 12 issues of CHOLD OF THE SUN published (on Amazon) and I would like to create a collected book with all the bells and all the whistles that could be put out telling the whole story of Samson and Adriana and Hercules and the Sea People and all these other characters from antiquity mashed up into a fun and, frankly, STRANGE story. I have 10 pages of comic book layouts staring me in the face and I feel... fear. I see everything that could go wrong and all the paper I'm going to ruin and how my overpenciling is going to leave ghost lines that I won't see until after I ink and how the ink is going to gray after I erase and how the lines aren't going to be the way I want them to be and... and... and... Anyway, I see a couple things that might give me some joy to do and it's like that scene in Lethal Weapon 4, when Riggs and Murtaugh see Jet Li's Wah Sing Ku standing at the end of the pier, seething. Riggs turns to Murtaugh: But Roge. I really want to know how he did that thing with the gun...! Roger Murtaugh squares his shoulders, gives a great big sigh and says: Let's go ask him. They head into a fight that is going to really fuck them up, but know (pretty much know) they'll get through successfully. That's kinda how I feel about those pages.
