Out Of Context OC Lines!

thanks for tagging me @leahnardo-da-veggie ! I tried to find one for each of my main characters, plus one from a new character who's going to be important later. Also one from my time goddess just because I haven't had a chance to write her in ages.

Kandrina: “I’ll avoid their eyes, but I’m not swinging a sword around blindly. I’d probably end up chopping Remlik’s head off.”

Remlik: “Then she decided she’d never have kids because they were far too messy.”

Christina: “Wait, the tea’s drugged? Why did you let me drink it?”

Michael: “I’m not sure on that one. Simple is good, but Oakshire Air Force would abbreviate to OAF. That’s probably not the image we want associated with our military.”

Enkarini: “Good thing I’m not a mouse, then. So which ones are real?”

Soris: “Oh, you sweet innocent child. Look, there are reasons a creepy guy might want to catch a girl alone, and none of them are especially pleasant. Do I need to go into detail?”

Caiara: “You’re just not used to anyone being pleased to see you. Once they realise how much of a pain you are, they’ll stop being so happy around you.”

Ember: “You know, if you stare too long your eyes will fall out.”

Fendral: “I doubt I will ever understand the insistence of fleshkind on separating themselves according to parts, but I shall keep the neutral sibling in mind.”

Dranj-Aria: “Not important for now. The point is, you and I are, were, or possibly will be working together, so at some point in time, you have, or will, let me in here.”

Annabel seemed to sag under the weight of the questions. “Because I had no choice. I am bound by something beyond any mortal understanding. Do you think I’m doing this for fun? For my own glory? If I had any say in the matter, I would have chosen to move on centuries ago. Everything I do is for the sake of the entire world, to right a wrong from thousands of years past. Until that is corrected, I am trapped here, at the whim of creatures who see us as no more than playthings.

“Your final two questions have the same answer; Dragon’s Teeth needed to fail. As it stood, the town would not have survived past the turn of the century. Your plans to open the gates to the outside world would never have worked, not the way it needed to. The place would have been revitalised under your leadership, and what magic remained in this land would have dwindled to nothing after a few generations. Magic must return to Trizes, and I am bound to see that happen no matter the cost.”

Friday Kiss tag!

even though it's technically Saturday now

thanks for the tag @leahnardo-da-veggie ! I don't have that many kisses in my work, aside from a couple of familial pecks on the cheek, but I did sort of write one into the wedding scene of The Shades.

“Cherished friends and family, we are here today to celebrate the love and commitment of these two people. Marriage is a solemn and lifelong union, wherein two loving souls are joined as one in the eyes of...”

“Sorry, but can we skip the long speech and get to the vows?” Michael interrupted with a whisper. Soft giggles escaped from Alicia and Nicola, and Christina winked at them.

Reverend Morgan blinked and shuffled through a couple of pages. “Do you, Prince Michael Andrew Oakmore, take Lady Christina... what was your last name, again?” he asked.

“I don’t really have one,” she replied, looking around awkwardly.

“Use ours, it’s Barnett,” Denise called.

The vicar nodded and continued. “... take Lady Christina Barnett to be your wedded wife, to love and honour, to have and to hold, for the rest of your life?”

Michael smiled, his eyes crinkling as they always had in a genuine smile. “I do.”

“Do you, Lady Christina Barnett, take Prince Michael Andrew Oakmore to be your wedded husband, to love and honour, to have and to hold, for the rest of your life?”

“I do,” she said, squeezing Michael’s hand tightly.

“Then I pronounce you husband and wife, wedded in the eyes of the One and the laws of this Kingdom. You may kiss the bride.”

Michael pulled Christina close and kissed her deeply, ignoring the twin wolf-whistles from Alicia and Nicola. They broke apart after a few moments, and were immediately leapt on by the guests. Oliver spent a solid two minutes shaking Michael’s hand, while Christina was caught in a four way hug with Denise, Alicia and Nicola. The flow of emotional congratulations eventually slowed, and Michael took her hand again.

OC Personality Playlist/Song Tag Game Thanks to @davycoquette for the tag! Instructions: share a song or songs that reminds you of an OC or that you associate with that OC in some fashion, then explain why. This is the kind of thing where I could easily go balls-to-the-wall apeshit and write pages and pages, so I'm going to try to employ a little brevity (fingers crossed, and apologies in advance if I fail). NOTE: Old music because I'm in an old-music/period piece headspace ATM. *** ELLIOT

Elliot is outgoing, personable and self-confident, and adores 1970s disco-pop. And adores singing it, loudly and with verve and somewhat off-key around the house and the shop to lovingly annoy his husband George. (George professes to find it intolerable and ear-shattering but has grown to love it; he misses it when Elliot's not around, although he's loath to admit it to anyone).

Another of Elliot's favorites, and the way he sees himself (the man has no issues with self-confidence). Also what he semi-jokingly calls himself -- Hot Chocolate -- when he's trying to be playfully flirty and seductive. **** GEORGE:

An old but great story song whose title character inspired both George and his name: short, sturdy, pugilistic, idealistic and weirdly, pointlessly gallant. George, now, is middle-aged -- polite, somewhat prickly, reserved, a little stuffy and proper. But back in the day he was a badass: first a teenage gangbanger and street brawler, then a Golden-Gloves boxer and helicopter door gunner in the military (where he met his now-husband Elliot, a transport helicopter pilot). Can still be a holy terror when properly motivated, although most people who know him now have a difficult time imagining it. An overthinker, full of complicated thoughts and outdated notions about honor and chivalry that he has a hard time explaining to anyone. ***

Reminds me of George in his speed-freak/street-punk/reform school youth. ***

A song George loves even though it is absolutely NOT his kind of music. This is the song that was playing when Elliot proposed (on the dance floor, at the grand-opening party at the antique store he and George opened in North Carolina after retiring from the military). It's one of George's fondest memories. *** JAMES :

James, to a tee. Fun, hot in a sleazy kind of way, a little bit of a conman. JimJam is the guy you will 100% go drinking with and let talk you into bed, but will be kinda embarrassed to tell your friends about. (Also restores old muscle cars, so there's that as well.) ***

Also James -- smooth-talker, often in some kind of trouble but usually manages to talk his way out of it. ****

James is also still (pointlessly) carrying a little bit of a torch for his ex-wife, Ernie -- a dive-bar owner and former friend with benefits who foolishly agreed to marry James during a dirty weekend in Vegas, then instantly regretted it and divorced him. *** ERNIE:

Ernie in a nutshell. Owns/runs a dive bar. NB, kind of a slob, somewhat antisocial/snarky. Sex-positive but commitment-phobic -- show up at last call, bring Twinkies or another calorie-and-sugar-dense Hostess product, and you might get invited to the apartment upstairs. Do your thing, and GTFO before sunrise because Ernie likes their space and needs quiet time and a lot of caffeine to become human and civil in the mornings.
