  James was sitting at the Gryffindor table, having everything planned out. Every single thing was in place: the marauder's wands were at the ready, and in their minds, the spell they had been practicing for the past few weeks. If all went well, it would have to be worth it, and Evans would finally go out with him.

James had spent the past 5 years wooing the girl of his dreams. He had confessed 7 times privately, 5 times publicly and flirted every time she walked past him, had given her compliments and Valentine's cards, but all in vain. That girl has always preferred stupid Snivellus to him, but Lily and Snape had recently had a fight. For better or worse. Now that they weren't friends anymore, James might actually have a chance! ("Not that I didn't before" he told himself.)

Lily never understood James' love for her, and he thought it was really unfair: every single one of her traits, he noticed. He loved the way her dark red hair floated through the wind, the way her deep green eyes reflected the sunlight when she was outside. The way she threw up her hand every time a professor asked something, and how she felt other's pain and joy.
