Howdy! Finally got back to drawing! New map (18x24) in my world, Aesa, set early in history. Still a work in progress. Enjoy!

Creator's Journal #1
Aug 25, 2022
My grandfather was the first person to share this illustration with me. He took two glass jars, one was filled with beans, and the other had a few golf balls (he loves golf).
He asked me to put all the golf balls into the jar with the beans, I believe there were seven in total, but it's been awhile. I was young and unable to force all the golf balls into the jar. He stopped me and instructed me to place the golf balls back into the empty vessel and then pour the beans in after. They didn't all fit but there were very few beans that didn't make it into the jar.
You may have heard this before, it's not a new idea or illustration, but this was the first time as a child I had heard it and it obviously stuck with me. The point? We have limited time in a day. The jar represents you. The beans are all the activities that fill your time. The golf balls are the things most important to you. If you allow little, unimportant things to fill your time, it's difficult and nearly impossible to fit in the "important" things. However, if you put the important things first, there is still room for ample amounts of extra activities.
As to what is "important" to you, that is completely up to you. My grandfather wrote different things on the golf balls he used.
Why do I bring this up? Life is about balance. I love being creative, but my time is limited. For me personally, right now, creativity needs to be a bean. There are days I would love to focus on music, or drawing, or writing, but right now it not a "priority." I'll never stop. The nice thing about music or drawing, is that the materials or instruments are always there, ready and waiting.
If creativity is a priority in your life, if you're striving for an artistic or creative career, I hope your journey goes well! And hope to cross paths with you!

Who? What? Where? When? Why?
Tumblr media
Greetings! Thank you for taking a moment to read this. For my first post I thought I'd throw out some basics here.
Who am I?
My name is Tyler. I'm happily married and currently have a dog and cat. I'm a musician, a writer, a cartographer, and worldbuilder. I've been on earth for a few decades. It may soon become evident that I have no idea what I'm doing (haha).
What is my goal?
I'm looking to share my creative projects. I'm not the next popstar or best-selling author, but I still like to create and I want to share what I do with anyone who might be interested. Largely, what I'm looking at sharing here are writing pieces.
Where?
I'll answer in two parts. I, the creator, I live California, USA. That's enough, yeah?
As for my work, we'll be exploring fantasy worlds I've created in my mind! But don't worry, they aren't that scary (haha).
When?
Now.
Why?
The heavy hitting question! Why am I doing this? Well, I wish I had a eloquent answer, but I don't. I play music, write, draw, and do what I do because I enjoy them. These are things I was doing before posting them on social media. I consider them hobbies. I figured, why not share what I do? It's a big world, surely someone would like something I do.
I try to keep a "down to earth" or realistic view of my work. As stated earlier, I'm aware I won't write the next big chart topping song, or the next awarding author. But I'm already writing, why not let people read if they're interested? And you never know who might read it!
Thanks again for taking a moment to read this piece. I look forward to posting more!
