Happy #internationalwomensday 💘🤠 Daily, we as a gender are presented with hardships, obstacles, experiences, words, that tend to be biased, unfair, unjust, to name a few. But on the other side of the coin, we always rise above; We greet unjust views with earth-shattering kindness, the type that moves mountains. We greet cruelty with compassion, the sort that can thaw even the thickest of ice. But what I am most proud of is how we greet biased opinions, oppressive views and those that try to make us submissive in voice and in body. We stand up for what is right, not what is comfortable. We as a gender, have become a world of our own. One built upon empowerment and self-actualization. One of accepting our roles as they were and plowing through the stigma. We choose to love through hate. But more importantly, we acknowledge the ever living hell out of one another’s qualities, celebrating every brutal, beautiful, detail of our makeup. We still have a long ways to go, but we were MADE for this fight for justice. ✨So here’s the deal: I hesitated posting this because I am not wearing makeup and I’m mid work out but the reality is, I’m fucking proud of myself. I want to honor the process of my body positive journey and show up as my authentic self. Today, our @onepeloton arrived: I’ll be honest with you, I haven’t been on a bike in at least two years. 🥴 One of my goals for 2021 was to practice mindfulness, honor my health and to show up for myself. I wanted to monitor what I ingest, albeit what I read, eat, experience... I wanted to be intentional. Tonight, I rode 4.5 miles in 20 minutes with @jesskingnyc and I showed up for myself. It’s the first of many, but every journey starts with a single step, or in this case, pedal. 🌺Sunday blooms found on our walk. Walks have been a saving grace through this most difficult time, amongst other things. Today marks 16 days of quarantine. This social distancing period has not been easy but I read this morning that we should act as a large family through this time, act as if strangers are loved ones and as if your neighbors are family, honoring and respecting each other by giving space, supplies, sharing joy, and through this period, we will prevail. ♡ I lived in New York City for 10 years. I am and always will be in love with it’s magic. I found my independence and learned some of the hardest but most important truths about myself and about life, by living there. I fell in and out love, built deep, lasting friendships, entered the workforce and paved a path that was completely my own, because this city allowed me to be myself. 💛We practice social distancing and honor staying at home because this is bigger than we are. You may feel “fine”, exude no symptoms, justify your level of quarantine but the truth is, again, it’s not about you and what you think is best at this time. This is about the greater good, doing your part, not just what feels good in the immediate. It’s uncomfortable for all of us yes, but the longer this request is not respected, the longer we will be in this state; think of the elderly and the autoimmune, think of the ones alone with limiting supplies, think of your parents, your friends, their families, the stranger on the corner. I am not one to push my agenda upon others, but this, this I feel strongly about and want to do my part. 🏔To many, if not all of us, it may feel that we have a mountain ahead of us. The road may feel treacherous, the climb, insurmountable, the foreseeable future, uncomfortable and upsetting but here’s the truth. The only thing we know to be certain is that the lives and lifestyles we once had are seemingly looking very unrecognizable at the moment and all we are able to do is adapt as best we can with grace and humility. What we have right now to hold on too is the power of compassion, human interaction albeit limited, and our ability to share with one another, whether it’s supporting local businesses, phoning a friend, sharing recipes with a neighbor, joining a virtual yoga class, etc, we have that power. Something that brings me peace in times of uncertainty is my power to choose joy. So, with that said, one year ago today, we were here. 💭I will make this short. However, this is a reminder to all and I feel compelled to share this experience. Last night, as we drove to grab necessities, we encountered a woman(yes we practiced social distancing) in her mid to late 60’s. We engaged in small talk about the state of our world, our health, the weather. As we parted ways, a “You’ve made me cry!” came from this very same woman, causing us to stop and turn right in our tracks. ⁣ ⁣ We turned to see emotion welling upon her face, “I’m so sorry,” Ian expressed, fearing that we had caused offense in some way. “No, no, no. I just miss the conversation and time with other human beings. It was nice to chat with you both.” ⁣ ⁣ I then yelled, “I’m giving you a big air hug!” And she yelled back, “Hopefully you can come back again for a real one in the coming months.” ⁣ ⁣ So here is what I believe to be the truth: love, respect, compassion and basic recognition of another human being will truly get us through this chaotic and unsettling time. As we headed home, I made it a point to wave and say hello from the car to strangers along the way.
