Oriented aroace culture is not understanding when people don’t understand the tertiary attraction you feel. Alterous attraction just makes sense to me! It doesn’t to some people and that’s okay! But it’s hard for me to grasp exactly what’s confusing others sometimes

[image ID; eight edits of Peter Parker which are identical except for the backgrounds, which are eight different pride flags. The pride flags are asexual, transgender, aromantic asexual, bi, alterous, oriented aromantic asexual, demisexual, and aromantic. End image ID] Peter Parker is a transgender bi-oriented aroace who experiences alterous attraction and is dating Ned and MJ. He is also demisexual!

Alloaros are so much more than the occasional positivity post. They're more than that group of aspec people you sometimes remember to include. They're more than the discourse people seem to constantly have around them, and the constant erasure that people push. They are people; they can be your friends, your family, your partners, your neighbors. Remember to not just include them, but appreciate them, and acknowledge their worth as a valuable part of the community, and of the world as a whole.

Here's your reminder that:
Acespec people can call themselves asexual
Arospec people can call themselves aromantic
Aroacespec people can call themselves aroace
The words asexual, aromantic, and aroace, do not belong solely to those on one end of the spectrum. Demi, cupio, grey, lith, quoi, and all other aspecs are just as welcome under these words.
I saw a post that claimed only those without any form of romantic or sexual attraction could call themselves "gay/bi/etc. aroace" and that those on the spectrums somewhere have to use something else. Frankly, it's beyond ridiculous and aphobic to say so. Those on the spectrums are just as allowed to use the words that have always been granted to them within the community.
Do not let anyone tell you that the community you're in doesn't belong to you, or that you're less welcome here.

[image description: six different cartoon-style bunting graphics, featuring six pride flags hanging from a brown rope. The flags are rectangular, finishing in a chevron shape, and have rows of brown stitching across the top of the flag and along the bottom of the chevron. First image in each set shows the flags with the topmost stripes facing the left; second image shows the three right-hand flags flipped, so all topmost edges face away from the centre.
First set of flags shows the violet/pink/orange/yellow/pine green amatopunk flag, second the purple-to-green gradient/white greyromantic flag, third the red/pink/white/grey/black recipromantic flag..]

Lesbian aro culture is figuring out you're gay and thinking, "ohhhh! I never got crushes on boys because I'm gay." and then proceeding to not get any crushes on girls either

Not loving romantically does not need to be compensated with feeling other forms of love. You don’t owe anyone that compensation. Not loving at all doesn’t make your experience incomplete or lacking, it just makes it different and is as equally important as any other experience.

aroaces are allowed to more closely identify with the ace or aro part of their identity! it doesn't have to feel like an exact 50/50 split

Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week is happening in less than 60 days! We have a guide for applying for a local or state proclamation up on our website: https://taaap.org/2021/12/25/asaw-proclamation-2022/
In 2021, there were a total of 6 states and cities that recognized Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week. While government recognition is not required for any community or their events, it helps to lay the groundwork for inclusive policy, and brings greater awareness to the public of the identity and community.
[ID: Two infographics with the heading "ASAW Official Recognition". The first one reads "Aromantic Spectrum Awareness Week is coming up on February 20 - February 26, 2022! Official government recognition of ASAW can do several things: Raise awareness of aromantic identities among the public. Provide a building block to request future legislation cover aromantic people. Make aromantic people feel seen and accepted in their home!"
The second reads "If you want to apply for official recognition from your local government, just follow these simple steps: 1. Have an address in the relevant location. 2. Check the deadline for proclamation requests. 3. Contact any organization you would like to sponsor the proclamation. 4. Copy and paste our template into the request form. 5. Wait for a response, and follow up!" End ID.]

People who don’t use the Split Attraction Model are great, no matter the reason!
People who choose to only label one aspect of their orientation and not the other are fantastic, no matter the reason.
People who refuse to disclose their orientation and labels are lovely, no matter the reason!

Friend Reminder that Aro-spec is in fact just that. A Spectrum. Some of us do feel small bits of romantic attraction. Some of us fall in love (platonic, alterous or romantically). Some of us are repulsed by the idea of romance. Some of us will never be in a "romantic" or queer platonic relationship. Some of us enjoy the thought of getting married. Some of us are indifferent. Some of us are fine with just having sexual relationships. Some of us worry about other things. But we are all on this big green spectrum of aromantic.
