Good Night Lights: A Magic Minute to Brighten SpiritsÂ
Promoting on various social media platforms for non-profits is an absolute must. Non-profits use social media to reach a larger audience and get messages and stories out to the public fast. Growing a bigger following on social media calls for more donations and or volunteers for many non-profits especially the amazing local ones we have here in the ocean state. Hasbro Childrenâs Hospital has been able to help so many families here in Rhode Island for decades and are always in need of donations. There are various non-profits and programs to donate to or volunteer for here at Hasbro Childrenâs Hospital.
One of Hasbroâs most popular non-profits amongst us Rhode Islanders is âGood Night Lightsâ. Good Night Lights started after long-time hospital âresident cartoonistâ Steve Brosnihan wished the children staying in the hospital a goodnight by blinking lights on his bicycle as he left for the evening. Now nightly here in Providence, Rhode Island residents from all over the smallest state gather around the hospital creating different beautiful light displays. This local tradition has since then gathered local restaurants, hotels, police and fire departments as well as the famous Brown University to help brighten the nights of the children undergoing treatments here at Hasbro.Â
Good Night Lights has an amazing Facebook page with 8.6k followers and 8k likes for the page itself. For a non-profit organization having just over eight thousand followers is great business. However, the number of likes varies greatly throughout the different posts ranging between 10-40 likes per post. Many of their posts have a decent number of reactions, shares and comments, most of them coming from people sharing their own experiences with Good Night Lights. Their posts on Facebook are more information based rather than focusing on the entertainment aspect of the organization. Good Night Lights' most popular posts throughout their Facebook page are the ones where they share information about their nightly event including locations and who will be in attendance. These posts gather lots of traction and make residents want to participate in this good cause. Good Night Lightsâ Instagram does not get the same amount of love that their Facebook does unfortunately. With a total of 43 posts and 1,964 Instagram followers they could be doing a lot better than they currently are. The number of likes on their Instagram posts varies from 20 to about 300 likes per post. Some of the pictures are very beautiful and eye-catching that fit the theme of what Good Night Lights is all about, however there are a few unnecessary posts that do not fit the theme of their organization.
There is always room for improvement though and here are a few things they should consider changing or focusing more on. What caught my eye the most on their Facebook were the colorful informative flyers they would create digitally for their more special events such as the boat parade. Using these digital flyers is a great way to spread information fast while simultaneously keeping/getting peopleâs attention. Good Night Lights should be using this technique to their advantage because colorful unique digital flyers attract people more than a regular paragraph posted to Facebook. This is a great simple easy way to get people informed about the event and to quickly spread the information around by just using a digital flyer that your followers are able to either repost or screenshot. Some channel metrics they could focus on for Facebook specifically should be their engagement and demographics. This will help Good Night Lights keep track of their interactions through their likes, comments, shares, and reactions. But it will also help them understand what towns and surrounding areas their volunteers are coming from. For their Instagram I think Good Night Lights (if they are allowed and of course with parents' permission) should share the children's stories. Good Night Lights is all about creating fun and positive memories for the children at Hasbro Childrenâs Hospital, and I want to hear from them! I want to see what creative things the kids are coming up with to brighten up their hospital rooms to participate with Good Night Lights. For their Instagram Good Night Lights will one hundred percent benefit from looking at their behavioral metrics. This will help the organization see who is interacting with their posts. They would be able to tell who is watching their stories or sharing and interacting in the comment sections. A huge part to behavioral metrics is also seeing who is clicking links in your bio and if your followers are clicking links that can either take you to other social media platforms the organization is located on or to their website.Â
Hasbro Childrenâs Hospital has many different amazing programs that are always in need of support. Located below is a link directly to the hospital's website where you can donate and learn more about their programs! đ¤ 𼠠Â

Blog: What is Social Media?
Madison CastroÂ
Social media has improved over the years, however with many positives come a lot of negatives as well. Social media to me is a widespread of things such as websites, apps, profiles, streaming services, and services that provide communication between others. Social media has been put to beneficial use over the recent years to start up many campaigns for worthy causes and help raise awareness of many different issues around the world. Social media to me is also a place where I get to express myself freely while simultaneously finding others who have the same interests I do. Over the years I have been active on social media I have met so many amazing people with bright personalities and have been able to build different communities surrounding the things we love. Â One example I have of how social media has impacted me is about a concert I recently attended. After all my concerts, I always post on Instagram either talking about my experience or posting fun videos from the night. Another fan had found my pictures under the artists tagged posts and reached out to me through direct message asking if I had a video of this certain moment during the concert. After searching through all my videos, I found it sent it to them and they had mentioned that the artist reached down to hold their hand, but they were not fast enough to catch it on video. After talking through direct message and sharing common interests and bonding over a moment that happened the previous night, I can now call this person a friend and cannot wait to see them at any future shows for this specific artist. Without social media I would have never met this amazing person that I had no idea I was even standing next to the previous night. Â My social media profiles are just a combination of all the things I love and enjoy. I share content containing concerts, music, celebrities/popular influencers, and Disney. The platforms I use the most are Instagram, TikTok, X (Twitter), and Tumblr. I am not sure I have many strengths when it comes to social media. However, I am good at reaching out to people and becoming mutuals with people in different communities. I have always found it challenging to just post what you want to post! I know that may sound crazy but during middle and high school for me and maybe even a couple of years after I found it very hard to just be myself on social media. I always found myself comparing my profile to peers and seeing what seemed acceptable to post and what would get the most likes or shares. It did not take me up until just recently to realize it does not matter what you post as long as you like it! So now after all these years on social media I am now just posting what I want when I want to, and I do not worry about what my peers think anymore. What I would like to learn is how to strengthen my social media skills and how to build a stronger presence online.Â
