i like to headcanon that gojo has the mha trend of looking exactly like his mother...having a similar personality to her too...and maybe his father looking or having a personality similar to geto...imagine alternate universe where gojo gets to watch his parents be happily in love together, and treats geto the same way his mother treats their father...ugh, the possibilities...

I like it more when satoru's parents are alive and well, especially his mother, even if his birth might have been difficult because it's far easier to romanticize a parent that's no longer alive, a mother you never even knew. so when he's separated from them he has an idealised image to cling to. as opposed to the real and ordinary people who gave him up (for the clan. they aren't really very powerful sorcerers either, so they might not have had a say. however that might have gone)

And also that they outlive him, a fate that suguru relived his parents of.

Dylan George being the only person to treat his Innie like an actual person independent of himself rather than a means to an end for what he wants really got to me. And it wasn’t in a patronizing way like Mark - he genuinely recognizes that Dylan G has strengths he doesn’t have and admires him for it.

Helena doesn’t see Helly as a person but as a tool. Irving Bailiff sees Irving B as a subordinate just carrying out the mission he started. Mark Scout sees Mark S first as just an extension of himself that can earn a paycheck and later more as a child he can order around, who needs to blindly trust that he knows best.

But Dylan, who knows the least about the evils of Lumon and the ways the Innies are suffering - the one truly in it just to earn a paycheck - is the only one to talk to his Innie like an equal, like someone who has agency and can make his own choices. Like someone to admire.

The security for the severed floor? Eh, I don't know, one person should be fine. Whatever. The marching band? Oh, 50 people, minimum. Non-negotiable.

A lot of series get compared to the myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, but I think it's quite apt in the case of Severance. Considering that Mark Scout made Mark S to escape grief, and the idea at the core of the Orpheus/Eurydice myth is that we could conquer death if love didnt exist.

We would never experience grief and never have death affect our lives if we never looked back. But all people do look back out of love, and feel the pain of death through that. But Mark S as an innie was made to be the person who doesn't know that love and wont look back.

Love does not transcend Severance, so he brings Gemma out and runs right back into hell.

and obviously you find yourself thinking oh i do wish i could get severed to do this one thing. would you actually maybe not. but you do wish you didn't have to undergo medical procedures you do wish you didn't have to do the things that give you anxiety you do wish you didn't have to do tedious tasks that barely even require you to be present for them. it's tempting. that's why the premise works. but the premise is also that somebody has to do it. somebody has to go to the dentist and somebody has to get on that plane and somebody has to write those thank you notes. just like somebody has to clean the house and somebody has to harvest the food you eat and somebody has to make the clothes you wear. you can't eliminate inconvenience you can only delegate it. you can't eliminate suffering you can only delegate it. and always the easiest way to live with this is to see that somebody as less than. less than you less than people. and if that somebody has to wear your body to do it well maybe it's not all that different. they're not a person. you are. it's capitalism all the way down baby
