So I’ve been watching a lot of NCIS lately and reading a lot of fanfic. So these have been on my mind a lot lately.

I think a lot of what makes fanfiction so magical is writers taking the time to explore tiny elements that were imagined into existence in the source material and then abandoned. It's the deep dive into that t-shirt, the forgotten gift, the nickname, the spare key, the anger they swallowed down, the trauma they supressed, the love they denied, the story that wasn't mainstream enough to make it. It's the little things getting their moment to shine and I fucking love that and I will fight for it always.

so many of the most iconic images from ‘the x-files’ feature nothing more or less than mulder or scully–or mulder & scully–viewed from behind as they study something extraordinary: an event that will change them, a place with potential, a phenomenon that cannot be explained. it’s such a thematically significant composition that it just about sums up the entirety of the show: the importance of searching (did you find what you were looking for? / no, but i found something i thought i’d lost: faith to keep looking); the importance of witnessing (why do you doubt yourself? / because my partner didn’t see them); and the importance of facing what comes (how can I see the future if it didn’t already exist? / then if the future is written, then why bother to do anything). for a brief moment we are voyeurs, watching these characters as the conspirators who threaten them do. they are outlined against the impossible, but they refuse to let it remain a nameless enigma… and that is the danger they pose.

Umm… I don’t know if anyone will care. But this is a question to any and all of my fanfic writers and more importantly readers. I wrote something for the first time in years. It’s super short like 100 or more words.

But the thing is. When I wrote it I had a bunch of my ships (which I have a lot of) in mind. I can’t pick just one to post it for. So I was thinking maybe to post it under the 3 or so ships and shows that I can see this scene in. On AO3. That site I’m pretty sure allows that. (In the way of adding all the characters and shows or something like that.)

And the reader can pick who they want to see it for. I could even make it into a series or something.

I’m worried that would piss people off. It wouldn’t me. But I’m just happy to be able to write something again. Thoughts anyone.

I’ll add that it would be kinda like a chose your own adventure. Ship so to speak. It’s written with he and she used. So you’d pick who you’d want it to be about about of the tagged shows and ships. Or whoever really. I think it could work but I don’t know.
