NOISEMAKERS of the Week
Women's Equality Day is observed each year in the month of August. The day celebrates the passage of the 19th Amendment, which granted women the right to vote on August 26, 1920. With the ratification of this amendment, millions of women across the country were finally able to make their voices heard by voting.
This week we celebrate as "Noisemakers of the Week" the trailblazing women who fought to deliver a better future for all American women. Suffrage activists such as Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Lucretia Mott, Frederick Douglass, Sojourner Truth, Susan B. Anthony and Alice Paul defied danger, used their voices, and worked tirelessly for decades to realize what we know today as basic rights - the right to vote and own property.
The 2022 Women's Equality Day theme is: “Celebrating Women's Right to Vote" a right more important than ever in the wake of the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and eliminate a woman’s constitutional right to choose.
In acknowledging the day, The White House issued a Presidential Proclamation, reading in part:
"On August 26, 1920, after decades of hard-fought advocacy, women won the right to vote, and our Nation moved one step closer to living out our sacred ideal that all people are created equal. On Women’s Equality Day, we honor the movement for universal suffrage that led to the 19th Amendment, celebrate the progress of women over the years, and renew our commitment to advancing gender equity and protecting women’s rights." Women Speak
"If you want something said, ask a man; if you want something done, ask a woman."
Margaret Thatcher:
Margaret Thatcher was a British Conservative Party politician and, as Prime Minister, governed the U.K. for 11 years beginning in 1979. She was the only British prime minister in the 20th century to win three consecutive terms and, at the time of her resignation, Britain’s longest continuously serving prime minister since 1827. She became, by personality as much as achievement, the most renowned British political leader since Winston Churchill.

NOISEMAKER of the Week
The death of Queen Elizabeth II is being mourned in Britain and across the world. The country’s longest-serving monarch died Thursday at age 96.
"The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon,” the palace said in a statement, referring to the queen’s summer residence in Scotland.
Her reign traversed wars, a pandemic, and the winding down of Britain's vast empire and was the longest for a British head of state in history, a tenure that included the administrations of 15 Prime Ministers, 14 U.S. presidents, and 7 popes. The Queen's death comes seven months after she marked the 70th anniversary of her accession to the throne.
Elizabeth Alexandra Mary Windsor wasn’t born to wear the crown. The future queen took an unexpected path to the throne as a child, after her uncle, King Edward VIII, abdicated and her father was proclaimed King George VI.
Throughout her reign, she won almost universal praise for her abiding dedication to the oath of duty she promised. Just two days before her death, the Queen accepted the resignation of Prime Minister Boris Johnson and greeted the leader of the Conservative party Liz Truss, the new Prime Minister, at Balmoral Castle and invited her to form a government in her majesty's name.
With the passing of Queen Elizabeth II, her first son Charles ascended the throne. Buckingham Palace confirmed Thursday that the new monarch would be known as King Charles III.

Woman Speak
The amazing story of Emily Warren Roebling, the woman who stepped in to oversee the construction of the Brooklyn Bridge, which was completed in 1883. While she was not an engineer, she was educated in math and science. She married Washington Roebling, the chief engineer of the famous bridge. When Washington became ill from decompression sickness, Emily stepped in, doing everything from keeping the books, to carrying messages for her husband, to monitoring the construction of the bridge. She was the first person to cross the Brooklyn Bridge when it opened.

Victoria Woodhull
Victoria Woodhull, (September 23, 1838 - June 9, 1927), was an American leader of the women's suffrage movement and the first woman to run for the American Presidency in the 1872 election. An activist for women's rights and labor reforms, Woodhull was also an advocate of "free love", by which she meant the freedom to marry, divorce, and bear children without social restriction or government interference. Woodhull was the candidate in 1872 from the Equal Rights Party, supporting women's suffrage and equal rights; her running mate (unbeknownst to him) was abolitionist leader Frederick Douglass.
