1x07 - Hook Man
Tumblr media
“Yeah, don’t worry! We’re all fine.” Y/n reassured Bobby once again over the phone. They had stopped at an outdoor café they passed through to eat something. The two brothers headed to a table but she stayed back, leaning against her bike to call the older man. “It was weird and all, but we walked out without major problems.”
“I know the lot of you can take care of yourselves. But ‘still worry.” He told her and she smiled warmly. The man was as much of a father figure to her as John Winchester was. “Any leads on John?”
She sighs, her smile faltering, and looks over to the table Sam and Dean were. “No. After we found his journal, back in Jericho, the only sort of news we got was that he had re-activated his voice message, redirecting his calls to Dean.” She explains seeing a waitress approach the two other hunters and getting their order.
“We’ll, shit.” Dean looks over at her and she just nods, knowing he wanted to ask if she was going to eat. “Imma try calling him and see if I can pick anything up, ‘lright?” Y/n gets up from her bike and starts walking slowly to the other two.
“Okay. Let me know if you figure anything out.” She says as Sam passes her and she frowns at the youngest.  YYU88
“I will. Take care of each other out there.” She gets to the table and sits down. “Say hi to the boys f’me.” He hangs up and she looks up at Dean.
“Bobby says hi.” He looks from the computer screen at her and gives a small smile. She motions her head to Sam who is on a payphone. “What’s up over there?”
“He’s trying to find dad.” Dean rolls his eyes and turns back to her. The waitress came back and laid on the table, three cups of coffee, a piece of pie, an omelet and 2 chocolate chip cookies. “They had cookies.” He grins at her and she smiles back. “And pie.” He eyes the plate pulling it closer to him.
Dean takes a bite, looking to his computer and then back at Sam who just hang the phone and is walking back to them. “Your, uh, half-caf, double vanilla latte is gettin’ cold over here, Francis.” He teases and y/n takes a bite of one of her cookies chuckling.
“Bite me.” Sam retorts sitting down.
“So, anything?” Dean asks while Sam takes a sip of his coffee, he shakes his head.
“I had ‘em check the FBI’s Missing Persons Data Bank. No John Doe’s fitting Dad’s description. I even ran his plates for traffic violations.” Sam sighs defeated, leaning back on his chair.
“Sam, I’m tellin’ ya, I don’t think John wants to be found right now.” Y/n says as her forehead creases and Sam looks disappointed.
“‘lright. Check this out.” Dean says turning the computer screen so the other two can see. In it there’s an article about a young man’s death. “It’s a news item out of Planes Courier. Ankeny, Iowa. It’s only about a hundred miles from here.” Dean raises his eyebrows at them.
“The mutilated body was found near the victim’s car, parked on 9 Mile Road.” Sam reads the beginning out loud looking at Dean skeptically.
“Keep reading.” Dean said looking bored at Sam.
“Authorities are unable to provide a realistic description of the killer. The sole eyewitness, whose name has been withheld, is quoted as saying the attacker was invisible.” Y/n finishes the paragraph and raises an eyebrow at Dean. It was a good thing he developed the hobby of reading these types of article, it was so much easier to find cases with him.
“Could be something interesting.” He said to her and then looked at Sam.
“Or it could be nothing at all. One freaked out witness who didn’t see anything? Doesn’t mean it’s the Invisible Man.” Sam turns to eat his omelet.
“But what if it is? Dad would check it out.” Dean taunts him, making y/n roll her eyes, taking the last bite on her cookie.
They finish eating the breakfast and Dean pays it with the credit card as the other two head back to the vehicles. Sam gets in the passenger seat of the Impala, with a frown on his face. Y/n stops by the side and waits for him to roll the window down, and when he does she leans over resting her arms on it.
“Do you wanna explain why the pout?” She asks him with a slight tilt to her head.
Sam sighs and turns to her. “I just wanted to find Dad, get some answers. I hate that he’s playing with us like that.” His tone gets harsher as he explains his feelings. “And Dean doesn’t seem interested in finding him anymore. So I guess we’re just gonna hunt until dad decides it’s time for him to show up again…”
Dean finishes paying and turns to head back to the car, only to see y/n’s ass in his direction, with her elbows on Sam’s window. He liked the view, but saw a man who did too. ‘Men are gross’, he understands why you say that everytime the two of you go to a bar or something. Doesn’t matter he was looking too, it’s not as gross when it’s him, because he’s your… you’re his… Okay, so he couldn’t pin point exactly what you were for each other, still, the stranger sitting 2 feet away from him was grosser than he was.
He started walking back to the car, hitting the man’s chair in fake accident and mumbling an ‘m sorry’.Walking way slower than what was considered normal, he took in the view for a few more seconds. When he was close enough to the other two, Sam was looking to the street in front of him and y/n with her forehead on her arms sighed. “I know it’s frustrating, but…” she started but Dean cut her off and started to walk at normal speed.
“Put that butt down and let’s go.” Dean passed them to go to his side of the car. Y/n raises her head and looks at Sam again, annoyed.
“Yeah. We’ll talk later.” He chuckles knowing what she was about to say. Y/n goes back to her bike and pulls it to Dean’s window.
“I’m guiding!” She winks at the oldest hunter, with a smirk, and starts driving, knowing he will follow.
Arriving at the city, y/n lets Dean pass her to lead the way until they stop at a big house. A couple of guys are outside with their heads together over a hood of a car. She gets down the bike and goes to the Impala.
“Victim lived here.” Dean says as he gets out of the car and the three of them head to the guys. “Nice wheels.” He says faking an innocent smile and the boys look at him strangely. “We’re your fraternity brothers. From Ohio. We’re new in town. Transfers. Looking for a place to stay.” Grinning he points to Sam. Y/n looks at him mentally tanking for the warning and trying to form a plan, knowing she won’t be able to stay in a fraternity.
“Uhm. Sure.” One of the boys replies and goes back to the car.
“And who is she?” Another asks, smiling at her and taking a step closer.
“A cousin of ours. She got lost to her house.” Dean also takes a step forward blocking the other guy.
Frowning at Dean, y/n sidesteps him and smiles back at the fraternity guy. “Yeah… Do you happen to know the address to the sorority?” She asks him, with a smile in his direction.
After Marc, the fraternity boy, gave her the directions and she thanked him, she got back on her bike and headed to the corner, stopping out of sight of the house. She didn’t see a reason to actually go to the sorority house, when she could get a motel room just for her.
Y/n: Let me know if you guys gather any info. I’m heading to a motel.
She send the message to Dean and returned her phone to her jacket pocket, repositioning herself on top of her bike and heading to the end of the street. She took a few turns and found a motel. It wasn’t really good, but she was used, at this point, to all the shitty rooms they grew up in. Heading to the office, she fixed her hair and jacket.
“Good morning.” She smiled at the man in the front desk, who was looking down at a magazine with a bored expression. “Do you have any vacancies?” Using her flirty voice, she learned a long time ago it helped her get things easier, and she wasn’t ashamed of doing so.
The man raised his head and readjusted his posture when his eyes landed on her. “Oh. Good morning.” Clearing his throat, he continued. “Yeah. Sure. How many nights do you need?”
She talked to the front desk man for a little longer and, after paying for two nights with the card, some random bank had sent her last, she headed to the room. Getting inside she looked around, locking the door behind her, and let out a sight going to the closest bed and collapsing on it with throwing arm over her eyes. Her knuckles brushed the cut on her upper cheek, from their last hunt, and she flinched. The wound was basically healed already, but the flesh was still tender to the touch.
Y/n stood up and headed to the bathroom. After using it, she was coming back to the room when her phone started vibrating in her pocket. Pulling  it out she answers Dean's call.
“Hey, pretty blonde.” She grins and heads back to the bed “Missing me already?”
“Sure, if you say so.” He chuckled on the other side of the line “where are you? We got the witness information.”
She told him the address of the motel. Sam took the phone from Dean and explained Rich, the victim, was with the reverend’s daughter when he got killed. She waited in her bed until hearing the Impala’s engine, and headed out to meet the brothers.
“Okay. So what's the plan?”  she asked, getin in the back seats of the car and looking at the two.
“How you feel about a little prayer?” Dean asked her looking over his shoulder for a couple of seconds, befre turning tback to he road.
“We're heading to the church reverend Sorensen preaches. His daughter was on the girl with Rich.” Sam explained further “So, taling to her is our best shot to figuring out what is this thing.”
She agreed, nodding. “You missed one of the funniest experiences of my life.” Dean grinned still lookng at th road. “Our roommate, from the fraternity, is going to a gamee today, so Sam helped him get his back purple for the spirit.”
“What?” she chuckled lightly with Dean and Sam rolled his eyes.
“Yeah, well. When you throw me under the bus the way you did is hard to say no to the guy. Especially when we need information from him.” he youngest mumbled annoyed, which just agravaded th chuckling fro the other too.
Dean parks the car in front of a church and they all get off, heading inside. The service had already started, so they entered quietly, however the door slams behind Dean, making everyone going silent and looking at the trio. They sat on the back when the reverend continues “as a community, and as a family. The loss of a young person is particularly tragic. A life unlived is the saddest of passings.” Y/n skims the room and see a girl looking back at them, more specifizlly at Sam, who smiles weakly at her. “So, please, let us pray. For peace, for guidance, and for the power to protect our children.” Everyone lowers their head, in prayer, except Dean. Y/n elbows him, ad he then notices everyone else, repeatting the gesture.
The service ended shortly after and everyone headed out. The three hunters spot Lori, the reverend's daughter, as Dean and Sam explained to y/n, talking to another girl. After they hug and the oher leaves, the three approach them.
“Are you Lori?” Sam asks when they get closer to her.
“Yeah.” the girl nods.
“My name is Sam. This is my brother, Dean.” Sam points at him and Dean waves. “And this is Y/n, our cousin.” He points at her, using the same cover story Dean did earlier. Y/n smiles at her.
“Hi.” The two hunters say in unison to the girl.
“We just transferred here to the university.” he tells Lori.
“I saw you inside.” she gives Sam a small smile.
“We don’t wanna bother you. We just heard about what happened and…” Sam continues.
“We wanted to say how sorry we were.” Dean cuts him off and the girl and she tightens her lips into a thin line.
“I kind of know what you’re going through.” Sam looks back from his brother to the girl in front of them. “I-I saw someone… get hurt once. It’s something you don’t forget.” Lori nods slightly and reverend Sorensen walks up to them, putting a hand on the girl's shoulder.
“Dad, um, this is Sam, Dean and Y/n. They’re new students.” The reverend takes the outstretched hand and shakes it.
“It’s a pleasure to meet you, sir.” he says while the rev. shakes y/n hands as well.
“I must say, that was an inspiring sermon.” y/n tells him and Dean exchange a look with Sam.
“Thank you very much. It’s so nice to find young people who are open to the Lord’s message.” he smiles at the hunter and Dean chuckles.
“Listen, uh, we’re new in town, actually.” They lead rev. Sorensen away from Sam and Lori. “And, uh, we were looking for a, um, a church group.” they walk to the other side of the parking lot.
“Do you happen to have a nice one in here?” Y/n ask, looking at the reverend.
“Well, yes actually. We do.” The man tells them when they stop. “What days were you two thinking about participating?”
“Well, we're not entirely sure yet.” Dean starts to explain “We just got to town and haven't received our classes table yet. So we don't know exactly how our free time will be laid out.” he finishes and the older man buys the lie.
“Oh. That's okay. We can schedule a day next week, once the three of you have already settled in and talk more.” The hunters nod and smile at him. “Are you staying in Lori's sorority house?” he turns to y/n.
“What? Oh, I think so. Yes.” she stumbled over her words “I just have to organize a few last documents.”
“That's nice. I really think those sororities need more people like you.” His gaze going from her to Dean and someone calls him. He looks over his shoulder and back to the two hunters. “I have to go. But let me know if you need anything else.” They all smile and the reverend leaves.
“If he dreamed of what you would be like in a sorority house, I think he'd send you to an ordination.” Y/n turns to Dean, chuckling.
“Probably, yeah. But I do doubt you would be too innocent.” His eyes narrowing at her and she feigned outrage. Sam approached the two.
The Impala was parked in front of the library building and the three hunters were heading inside. Sam explained what Lori told him and they decided to do some research. “So you believe her?” Dean asked as they passed through the doors.
“I do.” Sam tells him.
“Yeah, I think she’s hot, too.” Dean grins at his younger brother and y/n rolls her eyes mumbling a very low ‘gross’.
“No, man, there’s something in her eyes. And listen to this: she heard scratching on the roof. Found the bloody body suspended upside down over the car.” Sam recalled what Lori had told him and y/n frowned at him.
“Wait, the body suspended? That sounds like the…” She starts and Sam cuts her off.
“Yeah, I know, the Hook Man legend.” He nods at the her.
“That’s one of the most famous urban legends ever. You don’t think that we’re dealing with the Hook Man.” Dean counters the two.
“Well. Every urban legend has a source. A place where it all began.” she says, stopping and  looking between the two.
“Yeah, but what about the phantom scratches and the tire punctures and the invisible killer?” Dean, stopping too, tilted his head at her.
“Well, maybe the Hook Man isn’t a man at all. What if it’s some kind of spirit?” Sam tries looking at Dean.
“I think we should see some records.” Y/n states and they head to the librarian behind a counter.
They sat at a table in the library while the librarian placed a few big, old, dusted boxes in front of them. “Here you go. Arrest records going back to 1851.” She gives the three a small mile while Dean blows some dust off a box and coughs.
“Thanks.” he tells her and she nods walking away. “So, this is how you spent four good years of your life, huh?” he looks at Sam with a frown.
“Welcome to higher education.” Sam smiles at his older brother and y/n chuckles. They start reading through the files. Y/n skimming through the names, and cause of arrest of each file, dividing it between possible, probably not and definitely not suspects for 3 hours.
A groan escaped her as she closed yet another ‘definitely not’ file. Dean rubbed his eyes the moment Sam, who was now standing behind the two, using a bookshelf as support, spoke. “Hey, check this out.” Dean and y/n get up and go to the shelf Sam is “1862. A preacher named Jacob Karns was arrested for murder. Looks like he was so angry over the red light district in town that one night he killed 13 prostitutes. Uh, right here, ‘some of the deceased were found in their bed, sheets soaked with blood. Others suspended upside down from the limbs of trees as a warning against sins of the flesh.” Dean pulls a piece of paper from inside the folder.
“Get this, the murder weapon? Looks like the preacher lost his hand in an accident. Had it replaced with a silver hook.” Dean shows the page he has with a draw of the hook to the others.
Sam chuckles humoressly and points to a page he has. “Look where all this happened.”
“9 Mile Road.” Y/n reads where he is pointing and looks at Sam. “Same place where the frat boy was killed.”
“Nice job, Dr. Venkmen. Let’s check it out.” Dean tells Sam, with a impressed smile on his face, turning around back to the table. Sam gathers all the research and they leave.
They  handed the rest of the files to the librarian and headed to the car, driving to the 9 Mile Road. Dean stops the car and they get out of it. Dean opens the trunk and hands Sam a rifle.
“Here you go.” He goes turns back to the trunk and Y/n grabs something from it too.
“If it is a spirit, buckshot won’t do much good.” Sam chuckles and looks through the neck of the gun.
“Yeah, rock salt.” Y/n says handing some projectiles to Sam.
“Huh. Salt being a spirit deterrent.” Sam nods as Dean takes out a coil of rope and shuts the trunk.
“Yeah. It won’t kill ‘em. But it’ll slow ‘em down.” They start walking towards the trees.
That’s pretty good. You two think of this?” Sam questions walking behind them with the gun ready.
“I told you. You don’t have to be a college graduate to be a genius.” Dean grins at his younger brother, Y/n puts an arm out stopping the two as she hears some noises among the trees. Sam raises his gun and looks around.
“Over there. Over there.” Dean whispers nudging Sam. He aims aims the gun and cocks it. A figure comes out from behind the trees.
“Put the gun down now! Now! Put your hands behind your head.” It's a sheriff with a gun aimed their way. Y/n mumbles a ‘fuck’ so low only Dean hears.
“W-w-wait, okay, okay!” Dean tries as Sam puts the gun on the floor. They all do as they're told.
“Now get down on your knees. Come on, do it! On your knees!” They get down. “Now get down on your bellies. Come on, do it!”
“ He had the gun!” Dean says as they lay down.
The sheriff calls reinforcement with the gun still aimed at the three on the floor.
“C'mon man. Let us explain.” Dean tries to reason with the sheriff but the man ignores him.
After waiting for a few minutes with their faces pressed against the dirt, other officers arrived. The one that busted them gave a brief explanation and three of them came to get the three up. The sheriff got closer to Dean.
“Keys?” He said and Dean looked exasperated at him. “Unless you want to leave your car here…” the man shrugged as Dean sighed.
“Fine.” He said with an infuriated look on his face and turned his pocket to the officer, since another one was holding his hands. The older man grabbed the keys and they took the hunters away.
Sam and y/n were sitting inside a cell. The woman had her head against the wall and her eyes closed. Sam, sitting beside her, was holding his head in his hands. How could they’ve been so dumb? “Y/n y/l/n. Sam Winchester. C’mon.” An officer called them and the two got up. Dean was being questioned, so maybe now it was their time. The officer led them to the table at the entrance of the station where Dean was flashing a grin at them.
“Here is your stuff.” The officer behind the desk handed them two bags with cell phones, wallets and personal stuff. Sam and y/n exchanged a glance and grabbed their stuff. They left the station.
“Saved your asses! Talked the sheriff down to a fine. Dude, I am Matlock.” Dean started bragging as soon as they stepped out of the station.
“But how?” Sam asked amazed.
“I told him you were a dumbass pledge and that we were hazing you.” He answered Sam, motioning between him and y/n.
“What about the shotgun?” Sam continued to question as they headed to Baby.
“I said that you were hunting ghosts and the spirits were repelled by rock salt. You know, typical Hell Week prank.” Dean explained with a proud smile on his face.
“And he believed you?” Sam’s face turned exasperated.
“Well, you do look like a pledge.” Y/n told Sam with a grin. As they got to the car several sheriffs ran out of the building and sped away in police cars. The three exchanged looks and got in the car. Dean followed the police cars from a distance.
They get to a sorority house, and as they drive by Dean points at Lori seating on the back of an ambulance with a blanket wrapped around her.
Dean parks on another street and they get out walking around to the back of the house. “Why would the Hook Man come here? This is a long way from 9 Mile Road.” Sam questions, a confusing glance on his face.
“Maybe he’s not haunting the scene of his crime. Maybe it’s about something else.” Y/n states as two sorority girls come out the side entrance of the building, luckily they don't see the three who lean against the side of the house next to some bushes to hide themselves.
“Dude, sorority girls! Think we’ll see a naked pillow fight?” Dean says turning to look at Sam, but sees y/n trying to climb onto the balcony instead. He helps her and climbs after, with Sam following them. Once they are up there, she sees a window and sneak inside with the two brother doing the same. Dean falls on top of y/n’s legs “Oh, sorry!”
“Be quiet.” She shushes him with a whisper getting to her feet.
“Me be quiet? You be quiet!” He retorts, doing the same.
“Both of you be quiet!” Sam complains, turning to close the window behind him.
They look around to realize they are inside a walk in closet. Sam opens the door slightly and sees another sheriff leaving the bedroom, waiting until the sheriff went downstairs and then opening the closet door. He checks to see if they are alone and steps out of it, followed by the other two. Once in the bedroom they see a bed covered in blood with some police markings. Y/n sees the wall and nudges the other two to do the same.
“‘Aren’t you glad you didn’t turn on the light?’” Sam reads the words written on the wall “That’s right out of the legend.” He looks to the other two.
“Yeah, that’s classic Hook Man all right.” Dean replies.
“And it’s definitely a spirit.” Y/n tapped her nose indicating the strong scent in the air, while heading to the other bed in the room, Lori’s bed. She knew because of the picture of a younger Lori, the reverend and a woman on the bedside table.
“Yeah, I’ve never smelled ozone this strong before.” Sam said as Dean moved over to the window. “Hey, come here.” He motioned to the other two, who joined him. Pointing at a cross symbol beneath the writing. “Does that look familiar to you?”
“Holy shit.” Y/n says and they hear a noise downstairs. Moving quickly and silently they go out the same way they got in and head to the car. Sam grabbed the folder they took from the library and opened it, stopping by a picture of the cross symbol they’d seen on the wall.
“It’s the same symbol. Seems like it is the spirit of Jacob Karns.” Sam states handing y/n the folder.
“All right, let’s find the dude’s grave, salt and burn the bones, and put him down.”
“After execution, Jacob Karns was laid to rest in an Old North Cemetery. In an unmarked grave.” She reads the next page on the folder and looks at Dean, both of them looking annoyed.
“Super.” Dean mutters leaning against the car next to y/n.
“Ok. So we know it’s Jacob Karns. But we still don’t know where he’ll manifest next. Or why.” Sam says going to his door of the car.
“I’ll take a wild guess about why.” Dean moves to the driver's side and picks up a fine left on the windshield. “I think your little friend Lori has something to do with this.” The two enter the car and y/n moves to go in too.
After an afternoon with some research at y/n’s motel room, Sam and Y/n go meet Dean at the boy’s frat house where there’s a party going on.
“Hey.” Y/n says when they find the oldest brother.
“Man, you’ve been holding out on me. This college thing is awesome!” Dean says checking out a girl who passes them and y/n smacks him on the head.
“This wasn’t really my experience.” Sam states looking around with a face.
“Let me guess. Libraries, studying, straight A’s?” Y/n teases him and he nods.
“What a geek.” Dean rolls his eyes as Sam unravels a piece of paper. Dean asks, eyeing the paper.. “Alright, done with your homework?”
Sam nods. “Yeah. It was bugging me, right? So how is the Hook Man tied up with Lori? So I think I came up with something.” He shows the printed pages to Dean.
“1932. Clergyman arrested for murder.” Y/n reads aloud showing Dean the different pages. “1967. Seminarian held in hippie rampage” she reads the second page. Dean looks back at them confused.
“There’s a pattern here. In both cases, the suspect was a man of religion who openly preached against immorality. And then found himself wanted for killings he claimed were the work of an invisible force. Killings carried out… get this… with a sharp instrument.” Sam explained his train of thought and y/n questions.
“What’s the connection to Lori?”
“A man of religion? Who openly preaches against immorality?” Y/n states as it’s obvious and Dean suddenly understands. “Except maybe this time, instead of saving the whole town, he’s just trying to save his only daughter.”
“Reverend Sorensen. You think he’s summoning the spirit?” Dean asks as someone bumped into them.
“Maybe.” Sam says, shrugging.
“Or… You know how a poltergeist can haunt a person instead of a place?” Y/n looks up at Dean and he nods.
“Yeah, the spirit latches onto the reverend’s repressed emotions, feeds off them, yeah, okay.” Dean agrees thoughtful.
“Exactly. Without the reverend ever even knowing it.” She continues
“Either way, you should keep an eye on Lori tonight.” Dean says and looks around the party, while Sam nods.
“What about you?” He asks the other two. Dean looks at an attractive blonde smiling at him by the pool table and makes a face.
“I’m gonna go see if I can find that unmarked grave.” He mumbles, reluctantly.
Y/n looks between the two brothers, trying to see who was in greater danger. “Come on.” She tells Sam and goes with the youngest to Lori’s house.
Sam and Y/n are looking through the kitchen window of the Reverend’s house. They can see Lori and her father arguing. They look at each other and then back to the house. Lori complains and leaves the room. Her father sighs and turns out the light, leaving the room. Lori comes outside and finds Sam and y/n outside.
“I saw you from upstairs. What are you doing here?” She asks, looking between the two hunters.
“I’m keeping an eye on the place.” The girl makes a face when Sam answers and he continues. “I was worried.”
“About me?” Lori asks and y/n takes a few steps away, looking around the house and giving them space.
“Yeah. Sorry.” Sam scratches the back of his neck.
Y/n calls Dean to see if he managed to dig and burn the Jaco Karns remains but it goes rings until it falls on voicemail. She huffs looking down at her phone when, suddenly she hears reverend Sorensen scream followed by Loei’s. She runs to where Sam and Lori were when the door slams shut and Sam runs to it with his gun in hand.
“Are you okay?” she asks Lori when she reaches the girl pulling her back into the garden. She nods quickly and tries to run inside again. “We need you to be here, okay?”
“But…” She starts but reverend Sorensen screams again. A gunshot is heard and the window on the second floor shatters. Y/n is still holding Lori ck while she pulls her phone to call 911. Lori manages to escape the hunter’s grasp and runs inside.
“Dad! Dad!” The girl enters the bedroom and kneels down next to her dad. “Okay. It’s ok, Dad, it’s ok. It’s ok.” Sam is watching when y/n approaches and end the 911 call.
“Ambulance is on the way.” She simply states and Sam nods.
In the hospital Sam and y/n are talking to the sheriff while Lori is standing by her father’s bedside in a room.
“We were just talking. Then Lori’s dad came out. And then he appeared.” Sam explains looking convincingly confused.
“A big man? Carrying a weapon, some kind of hook?” the sheriff narrows his eyes at the two.
“Yes, sir.” the hunters nod.
“Ever seen him before?” The man asks and both shake their heads.
“No, sir.”
“Kids, it seems every time I turn around, I’m seeing you. I suggest you try to stay out of trouble…” y/n takes a shaky breath and the two nod at the sheriff.
“Yes, sir.” They say in unison as Dean approaches down the hall.
“No, it’s alright, I’m with them. He’s my brother.” Dean says at two officers who try to stop him. “Hey! Brother!” Sam, y/n and the sheriff turn to see Dean, who’s smiling and waving.
“Let him through.” The sheriff says and the other two make way for Dean to approach.
They go towards Dean as he’s walking their way too. “You ok?” He looks worried from Sam to y/n.
“Yeah.” they answer the oldest hunter.
“What the hell happened?” Dean asks, making a face.
“Hook Man.” Sam says with a sight.
“You saw him?” Dean wide eyes look back at Sam.
“Damn right.”
“Why didn’t you torch the bones?” y/n asks in a hushed tone.
“What are you talking about, I did. You sure it’s the spirit of Jacob Karns?” He answers looking at the woman as she opens her mouth confused.
“It sure as hell looked like him. And that’s not all. I don’t think the spirit is latching on to the reverend.” Sam says quickly.
“Well, yeah, the guy wouldn’t send the Hook Man after himself.” Dean says in a mocking tone.
“I think it’s latching onto Lori. Last night she found out her father is having an affair with a married woman.” Sam continues ignoring his brother’s comment.
“So what?” Dean frowns.
“So she’s upset about it. She’s upset about the immorality of it.” y/n explains to Dean.
“She told me she was raised to believe that if you do something wrong, you get punished.” Sam whispers.
“Ok, so she’s conflicted. And the spirit of Preacher Karns is latching on to repress the emotions and maybe he’s doing the punishing for her, huh?” Dean gets to the conclusion the other two had.
“Right. Rich comes on too strong, Taylor tries to make her into a party girl, Dad has an affair.” y/n brings out all the deaths and correlates to Lori.
“Remind me not to piss this girl off.” Dean murmurs. “But I burned those bones, I buried them in salt, why didn’t that stop him?” he asks the two younger hunters.
“You must have missed something.” Sam tries and Dean shakes his head at him.
“No. I burned everything in that coffin.” y/n is chewing on her lip when it hits her.
“Did you get the hook?”
“The hook?” Dean asks with a frown.
“Well, it was the murder weapon, and in a way, it was part of him.” She explains her point of view.
“So, like the bones, the hook is a source of his power.” Dean whispers and exhales, shaking hi head.
“So if we find the hook…” Sam starts.
“We stop the Hook Man.” They smile at each other.
The three are back into the library with more papers. “Here’s something, I think. Log book, Iowa State Penitentiary.” Dean says and start reading. “Karns, Jacob. Personal affects: disposition thereof.”
“Does it mention the hook?” y/n asks looking up from her files.
“Yeah, maybe… Upon execution, all earthly items shall be remanded to the prisoner’s house of worship, St. Barnabas Church.” Dean reads the next line.
“Isn’t that where Lori’s father preaches?” y/n asks Sam, who nods
“Yeah.”
“Where Lori lives?” she asks again.
“Maybe that’s why the Hook Man has been haunting reverends and reverends’ daughters for the past 200 years.” Dean tilts his head and looks between the two.
“Yeah, but if the hook were at the church or Lori’s house, don’t you think someone might’ve seen it? I mean, a bloodstained, silver-handled hook?” Sam asks his brother.
“Check the church records.” Dean says and motions to the piles of paper in front of them. They go back into reading.
“St. Barnabas donations, 1862. Received silver-handled hook from state penitentiary. Reforged.” y/n reads aloud when she stumbles into something and with a sigh looks up at the two brothers. “They melted it down. Made it into something else.”
“So… I guess back to the church we go…” Dean gets up. The other two follow him.
“What’s the plan once we get there?” Sam asks confused as they head to the car.
“We can’t take any chances. Anything silver goes in the fire.” Dean says as he gets in the car, followed by the two.
“We’ll have to break in, Lori’s still at the hospital.” y/n looks between the two.
“And we have to check both the house and the church.” Sam says.
“Alright. Take your pick.” Dean looks at Sam as he parks the car.
“I’ll take the house.” They get out and Dean and y/n look between the two buildings.
“Church’s bigger.” y/n says going in that direction to help Dean out. Dean nods and look back at Sam with a grin.
“Hey.” Dean calls and Sam turns around. “Stay out of her underwear drawer.” Y/n snorts and they both walk away.
They are some time inside, Dean is already throwing everything the two found in the fire when Sam approaches with a bag. “I got everything that even looked silver.”
“Better safe than sorry.” Y/n shrugs and hands the bag to Dean. They throw everything into the fire when suddenly, they hear footsteps above them.
“Move, move.” Dean takes his gun and they go upstairs. They find Lori sitting in a pew alone, crying. Dean lowers his gun and goes back downstairs with y/n.
“Man, that girl is in serious need of a therapy session.” y/n says sighing as they reach the fire again. When neither of them could see anything else besides the fire they relaxed a little, but then they hear Sam yelling.
“GO!”
Both of them get up as fast as humanly possible and run upstairs again. They hear Sam screaming and force their legs to go even faster. Y/n raises the gun she grabbed from the floor.
“Sam, drop!” Dean yells and the young hunter crouches down as y/n shoots the Hook Man once and he disappears into dust.
“I thought we got all the silver.” Sam looks at the two as they get closer.
“So did I.” Dean agrees.
“Then why is he still here?” Sam asks.
“Well, maybe we missed something!” Y/n says as it was obvious. They look around.
“Lori, where did you get that chain?” Sam asks pointing at the necklace of a cross on her.
“My father gave it to me.” She answers holding it as the three hunters eye ii
“Where’d your dad get it?”
“He said it was a church heirloom, he gave it to me when I started school.” she explains with a frown.
“Is it silver?!” Y/n asks her.
“Yes!” As she’s still answering Sam rips the chain off from around her neck and starts running to the hallway. The Hook Man, who is now invisible, is making a long scratch on the wall. Y/n turns around to look at it.
“Sam!” She throws the rifle and the rock salt to him and Sam tosses Dean the necklace, he runs back downstairs. Sam aims the gun at the scratch that is being made and shoots. He quickly reloads the gun with rock salt.
Y/n runs to them crouched down and pulls Lori back. Afterwards she goes to Sam and takes the gun from his injured hand, but the Hook Man appears and knocks the rifle out of their hands. They all crawl into the corner and watch the Hook Man tower over them. The Hook Man raises his hook in the air and stops. The hook melts and the rest of his body burns into nothing. Dean appears on the door looking at them. He walks over to the three on the floor and gives them a knowing look.
Outside the church the Sheriffs are walking around and there is an ambulance parked.
“And you saw him, too? The man with the hook?” The sheriff asks Dean and y/n rolls her eyes from the side.
“Yes, I told you, we all saw him. We fought him off and then he ran.” Dean explains.
“And that’s all?” He narrows his eyes.
“Yeah, that’s all.” Dean says and the sheriff sighs.
“Listen. The three of you…-” The sheriff starts but Dean cuts him off with a raised hand and a head shake.
“Oh, don’t worry, we’re leaving town.” The sheriff nods and walks to his car. Y/n approaches Dean back. They head back to the Impala and get in. Y/n sighs and rests her head on the headrest. Looking through the mirror they see Sam approaching the car after giving Lori a small, sad smile.
“We could stay.” Y/n says as Sam gets in, but he shakes his head. The two older hunters look outside the car and see Lori looking at the car. Y/n looks at Dean with a worried expression and Dean shakes his head in disappointment and drives away.

Y/n is already filling up the Harley when Baby, the Impala, arrives. She goes to Dean's window when they stop, to see what the plans are.
“Alright, I figure we’d hit Tucumcari by lunch, then head south, and hit Bisbee by midnight.” Dean says looking at Sammy and when he doesn't takes his eyes off the phone  or answer Dean keeps going “Sam wears women’s underwear.” the woman frowns and looks at the older hunter with a slightly amused but confused expression.
“I’ve been listenin’, I’m just busy.” Sam answers still looking at his phone.
“Busy doin’ what?” She asks stepping back because Dean wants to leave the car.
“Reading e-mails.” he answers as Dean gets out of the car and starts to fill the tank with gas.
“E-mails from who?” she asks, resting her elbows back on the driver's window frame and Dean goes to Sam's window.
“From my friends at Stanford.” he sighs and finally lifts his eyes to look at the girl in the opposite window.
“You’re kidding. You still keep in touch with your college buddies?” Dean asks incredulously.
“Why not?” Sam turns to look at dean frowning.
“Well, what exactly do you tell ‘em? You know, about where you’ve been, what you’ve been doin’?” Dean asks curious.
“I tell ‘em I’m on a road trip with my family. I tell ‘em I needed some time off after Jess.” He explans lifting his eyebrows.
“Oh, so you lie to ‘em.” Dean says only half joking.
“No. I just don’t tell ‘em… everything.”
“Yeah, that’s called lying.” Dean tells his brother and y/n cuts him.
“I mean, hey, man, tellin’ the truth is far worse.” she looks at the oldest of the three on the opposite window.
“So, what am I supposed to do, just cut everybody out of my life?” Sam questions Dean with slightly wide eyes. Dean shrugs. “You’re serious?”
“Look, it sucks, but in a job like this, you can’t get close to people, period.” Dean tells him and turns around.
“You’re kind of anti-social, you know that?” Sam says going back to his emails and y/n agrees with a small chuckle.
“Yeah, whatever.” he rolls his eyes at the two. Y/n goes back to the Harley to finish the pumping.
“God…” Sam states, rearranging his posture.
“What?” y/n asks from the next nozzle over.
“In this e-mail from this girl, Rebecca Warren, one of those friends of mine.” Sam starts.
“Is she hot?” Dean turns back around.
“Shut up.” the woman looks at him with a disgusted expression.
“I went to school with her, and her brother, Zack.” Sam ignores his brother. “She says Zack’s been charged with murder. He’s been arrested for killing his girlfriend. Rebecca says he didn’t do it, but it sounds like the cops have a pretty good case.” he continues and Dean looks over to y/n.
‘’Dude, what kind of people are you hangin’ out with?” his older brother asks him.
“No, man, I know Zack. He’s no killer.” Sam looks back up at Dean.
“Well, maybe you know Zack as well as he knows you.” he tells the youngest and takes the nozzle out of Baby.
“They’re in St. Louis. We’re goin’.” Sam says looking at the back of the car with his head out of the window. Dean chuckles.
“Look, sorry ‘bout your buddy, okay?” Dean starts but trails off looking at y/n for back up. Sam turns to hertoo.
“I just … This just does not sound like our kind of problem, Sammy.” she tries looking at the younger brother.
“It is our problem. They’re my friends.” Sam looks between the two, determined.
“St. Louis is four hundred miles behind us, Sam.” Dean tries to convince him to let go. They  exchange a look. Dean looks at y/n and they both roll their eyes going to their respective driver’s seats. Y/n pulls out of the gas station turning around and Dean follows her.
After some time on the road they stop at Rebecca’s house. Sam knocks and the girl opens the door.
“Oh my God, Sam!” She looks happy to see him and pulls him into a hug.
“Well, if it isn’t little Becky.” He teases her and they let go of the hug.
“You know what you can do with that little Becky crap.” She smiles and rolls her eyes.
“I got your e-mail.” Sam’s expressions shifts.
“I didn’t think that you would come here.” She says as Dean steps forward and extends his hand.
“Dean. Older brother.” She shakes his hand and he points back with his thumb to y/n. “Y/n. Best friend.” The two women smile and shake hands too.
“Hi.” “Hi” they say in unison.
“Hi.” Dean says grinning at Rebecca.
“We’re here to help. Whatever we can do.” Sam tells her and she takes a step back giving them space.
“Come in.” They walk inside the house, and Dean shuts the door.
“Nice place.” Dean states, looking around as they head inside.
“It’s my parents’. I was just crashing here for the long weekend when everything happened. I decided to take the semester off. I’m gonna stay until Zack’s free.” She looks over her shoulder to explain her situation.
“Where are your folks?” Sam asks
“They live in Paris for half the year, so they’re on their way home now for the trial.” Y/n looks back at Dean with wide eyes as they enter the kitchen. “Do you guys want a beer or something?”
“Hey…”
“No, thanks.” Y/n cuts Dean off and glares at him.
“So tell us what happened.” Sam asked Rebecca.
“Well, um, Zack came home, and he found Emily tied to a chair. And she was beaten up and bloody, and she wasn’t breathing.” The girl started to cry. “So, he called 911, and the police… they showed up, and they arrested him. But, the thing is, the only way that Zack could’ve killed Emily is if he was in two places at the same time.” She looks from one hunter to another “The police… they have a video. It’s from the security tape from across the street. And it shows Zack coming home at 10:30. Now, Emily was killed just after that, but I swear, he was here with me, having a few beers until at least after midnight.”
“You know, maybe we could see the crime scene. Zack’s house.” Sam tells her and looks back at Dean
“We could.” The older brother agrees.
“Why? I mean, what could you do?” She questions confused.
“Well, me, not much. But Dean and y/n are cops.” Sam points at the other two and Dean chuckles.
“Detective, actually.” Dean corrects.
“Really?” Rebecca asks looking at Dean then at y/n and she nods smiling. “Where?”
“Bisbee, Arizona.” Dean tells her.
“But we’re off-duty now.” Y/n says.
“You guys, it’s so nice to offer, but I just… I don’t know.” Rebecca tells them, unsure.
“Bec, look, I know Zack didn’t do this. Now, we have to find a way to prove that he’s innocent.” Sam tries again.
Rebecca sighs and looks at Sam for a moment. “Okay. I’m gonna go get the keys.” She walks away, down the hall.
“Oh, yeah, man, you’re a real straight shooter with your friends.” Dean looks incredulous at Sam after Rebecca’s out of sight.
“Look, Zack and Becky need our help.” He tells the two older hunters.
“I just don’t think this is our kind of problem.” Dean shakes his head with an anxious expression.
“Two places at once? We’ve looked into less.” Sam counter argue ad Dean says nothing when y/n agrees.
Rebecca comes back with the Keyes and they all get in the Impala going to Zack’s house.
Rebecca turns back to Dean and y/n asking “You’re sure this is okay?”
“Yeah.” “We’re officers of the law.” They reply at the same time and the girl turns back opening the door and giving them space.
They enter looking around. The furniture and walls of the house are smeared with blood. Rebecca stays on the porch steps.
“Bec, you wanna wait outside?” Sam turns back and asks her.
“No. I wanna help.” She swallows and ducks under the police tape entering the house.
“Tell us what else the police said.” Y/n stops in the middle of the living room turning around and asking her.
“Well, there’s no sign of a break-in. They say that Emily let her attacker in.” She looks around with tears in her eyes. “The lawyers… they’re already talking about plea bargain.” She starts crying “Oh, God….” After spotting the chair by the sofa she starts crying.
“Look, Bec, if Zack didn’t do this, it means someone else did. Any idea who?” Sam asks her but she shakes her head, then begins to remember something.
“Um, there was something, about a week before. Somebody broke in here and stole some clothes… Zack’s clothes. The police… they don’t think it’s anything. I mean, we’re not that far from downtown. Sometimes people get robbed.” She looks at y/n and Dean. Sam walks away. Dean moves to the open front door and sees the neighbor’s dog, barking loudly. Rebecca comes up behind him. “You know, that used to be the sweetest dog.”
“What happened?” He looks over his shoulder to her.
“He just changed.” She shrugs lightly.
“Do you remember when he changed?” Y/n asks from her spot looking at the windows.
“I guess around the time of the murder.” Y/n looks at her, nods and walks away.
Y/n go in the kitchen and Dean follows her, they find Sam looking at a picture of him with the two siblings, Rebecca and Zach.
“So, the neighbor’s dog went psycho right around the time Zack’s girlfriend was killed.” Dean tells them.
“Animals can have a sharp sense of the paranormal.” Sam points out turning to look at the two.
“Yeah, maybe Fido saw somethin’.” Dean starts and Sam cuts him off.
“So, you think maybe this is our kind of problem?” Sam questions smugly and y/n chuckles.
“No. Probably not. But we should look at the security tape, you know, just to make sure.” Dean says turning around
“Yeah.” Y/n agrees looking at Sam smiling and winks. “Just to make sure.”
“Yeah.” Rebecca walks over to them. “So, the tape. The security footage… you think maybe your lawyers could get their hands on it, ‘cause I just don’t have that kind of jurisdiction.” Dean questions the girl when she enters the kitchen.
“I’ve already got it. I didn’t wanna say something in front of the cops.” She glances at the two. “I stole it off the lawyer’s desk. I just had to see it for myself.”
“Perfect.” Y/n says and they leave.
Back at Rebecca’s house, the three hunters and Rebecca are in the living room. Rebecca’s sitting in an armchair and Sam is on the doga end closer to her. On the other end Y/n is sitting with Dean on her arm rest. They are watching the security footage.
“Okay. Here he comes.” Rebecca says as the tape shows Zack entering his house.
“22:04, that’s just after ten. You said time of death was about 10:30.” Y/n says as she notices the time stamp.
“Our lawyers hired some kind of video expert. He says the tape’s authentic. It wasn’t tampered with.” The girl says still looking at the screen and Sam seems to notice something on the tape.
“Hey, Bec, can we take those beers now?” He asks and Dean and y/n frown at him.
“Oh, sure.” She gets up to go to the kitchen.
“Hey.” He calls her again and she turns around. “Maybe some sandwiches, too?”
“What do you think this is, Hooters?” She laughs and leaves the room.
“I wish.” Dean says and receives a punch in the thigh from y/n.
“What is it?” Y/n asks and gets up at the same time Sam does.
“Check this out.” He rewinds the tape, then replays it. One of the frames shows Zack looking directly at the camera. His eyes are silver. Sam pauses the tape.
“Well, maybe it’s just a camera flare.” Dean tries, but sounds unconvinced.
“That’s not like any camera flare I’ve ever seen.” y/n tells him. “You know, a lot of cultures believe that a photograph can catch a glimpse of the soul.” Y/n tells him, examining the tv a little bit closer.
“Right. Remember that dog that was freakin’ out? Maybe he saw this thing. Maybe this is some kind of dark double of Zack’s, something that looks like him but isn’t him.” Sam looks at Dean then at her.
“Like a Doppelganger.” Dean says.
“Yeah. It’d sure explain how he was two places at once.” Sam agrees.
When Rebecca returns with four beers they drink it and afterwards say goodbye to her. They leave the house in the impala and Harley, y/n had left there to go see Zach’s house, and go find a motel. Arriving at one that had an okay price they make themselves comfortable. It was y/n’s turn for the pull out couch so she drops her bag on the one in the corner.
The next day Sam wakes them up very, very early and drags them to Zach’s house, parking behind the house.
“Alright, so what are we doin’ here at 5:30 in the morning?” Dean asks leaning against the hood of baby by y/n who was rubbing her eyes.
“I realized something. The videotape shows the killer goin’ in, but not comin’ out.” Sam says energetically.
“So, he came out the back door?” Y/n tells him dropping her head on Dean’s shoulder.
“Right. So, there should be a trail to follow. A trail the police would never pursue.” He looks back a them for a moment and then goes back to the back of the building.
“‘Cause they think the killer never left. And they caught your friend Zack inside.” Dean states a little bit more awake, but still not happy.
“I still don’t know what we’re doin’ here at 5:30 in the morning.” Y/n says with her eyelids closed. Sam looks around the outside of the building, and notices blood smeared on a nearby telephone pole.
“Blood. Somebody came this way.” Sam tells the other two. The woman opens her eyes but don’t move her head from Dean’s shoulder, she is way more comfortable than she should be.
“Yeah, but the trail ends. I don’t see anything over here.” Dean says not making any motion to move and disturbed the woman. Until an ambulance drives past them, waking the two leaned against the car up and they exchange a look.
They follow the ambulance and arrive at a house in time to see an Asian man handcuffed stepping into a police car. “What happened?” Y/n asks to a woman.
“He tried to kill his wife. Tied her up and beat her.” The woman answers and y/n exchange a look with the other two.
“Really?” Sam questions faking surprise.
“I used to see him going to work in the morning. He’d wave, say hello. He seemed like such a nice guy.” The man gets taken away and Sam turns around going to the side of the building and y/n follows him.
They are looking around. Sam looks inside two garbage cans but finds nothing as y/n looks at the wall beneath the window. They move to the front of the house, where Dean comes to them.
“Hey. Remember when I said this wasn’t our kind of problem?” Dean asks when they turn around to look at him.
“Yeah.” “Uhum.” They agree at the same time.
“Definitely our kind of problem.” He continues
“What’d you find out?” She asks him.
“Well, I just talked to the patrolman who was first on the scene, heard this guy, Alex’s story. Apparently the dude was driving home from a business trip when his wife was attacked.” He explains what he just learned.
“So, he was two places at once.” Sam utters.
“Exactly. Then he sees himself in the house, police think he’s a nutjob.” Dean continues.
“Two dark doubles attacking loved ones in exactly the same way.” Y/n wonders out loud looking back at the front door.
“Could be the same thing doin’ it, too.” Dean points out.
“Shapeshifter?” Sam asks and Dean shrugs. “Something that can make itself look like anyone?”
“Every culture in the world has a shapeshifter lore. You know, legends of creatures who can transform themselves into animals or other men.” Dean looks back at the house.
“Right, skinwalkers, werewolves.” Sam says.
“We’ve got two attacks within blocks of each other. I’m guessin’ we’ve got a shapeshifter prowlin’ the neighborhood.” Y/n looks at the tallest of them.
“Let me ask you this… in all this shapeshifter lore, can any of them fly?” He asks and turns to her.
“Not that I know of.” She raises one eyebrow.
“I picked up a trail here. Someone ran out the back of this building and headed off this way.” He leads them to the side of the building again and points to the trail that goes a little and then ends abruptly.
“Just like your friend’s house.” Dean comments.
“Yeah. And, just like at his house, the trail suddenly ends. I mean, whatever it is just disappeared.” Y/n goes to the end of the trail and crouches and looks at the manhole a close. “Well, there’s another way to go… down.”
Dean goes to her side and opens the cover and going down first. She follows right after and Sam comes behind, closing it behind him. They look around a little. “I bet this runs right by Zack’s house, too. The shapeshifter could be using the sewer system to get around.” Sam says.
“I think you’re right. Look at this.” Y/n bends down and shows them a pile of blood and skin on the ground. It is disgusting and she and Sam get up quickly.
“Is this from his victims?” Sam asks grimacing.
Dean takes out a pocketknife and holds up some of the skin. “You know, I just had a sick thought. When the shapeshifter changes shape… maybe it sheds.”
“That is sick.” Y/n states and turns around as Deans puts the bloody pile back on the ground. They turn back and go up again to the Impala, taking some weapons out.
“Well, one thing I learned from Dad, is that no matter what kind of shapeshifter it is, there’s one sure way to kill it.” He states holding a full magazine.
“Silver bullet to the heart.” Y/n looks at the bullets in it and then back at him.
“That’s right.” He smiles back at her when Sam’s cell phone rings. He answers it.
“This is Sam.” He answers and continues after a pause. “We’re near Zack’s, we’re just checkin’ some things out.” Another pause “What are you talkin’ about?” He frowns and the other two repeat the action looking at him. “Why would you do that?” He walks away a little “Bec…” he looks at the other two “We’re tryin’ to help.” Shaking his head after another short pause “Bec, I’m sorry, but…” he lowers the phone from his ear and walks back over to the car looking disappointed.
“I hate to say it, but that’s exactly what I’m talkin’ about. You lie to your friends because if they knew the real you, they’d be freaked. It’s just… it’d be easier if…” Dean starts as they get closer to Sam, y/n nudges him and he trails off.
“If I was like you.” Sam cuts him off.
“Hey, man, like it or not, we are not like other people. But I’ll tell you one thing. This whole gig… ain’t without perks.” He holds up a gun and Sam takes it and puts it in the back of his jeans as they walk away going back to the sewer.
They get down again and walk around for a bit with their flashlights and guns. “I think we’re close to its lair.” Y/n says after a while.
“Why do you say that?” Sam asks, stopping behind her.
“Because there’s another puke-inducing pile next to your face.” She points with her lantern and he turns to see it on top of a pipe.
“Oh, God!” He sounds disgusted and they start to look around the area and see a pile of clothes in a corner.
“Looks like it’s lived here for a while.” Dean tells them showing the pile with his light.
“Who knows how many murders he’s gotten away with?” Sam turns and sees the shapeshifter, still in the form of the Asian man, standing behind Dean. “Dean!” Sam yells alarmed and y/n turns around seeing the shifter at the sae time Dean turns and gets punched, he falls to the ground, and the shapeshifter runs away. Sam shoots after it a few times but misses and y/n goes over to Dean.
“Get the son of a bitch!” He says when the younger brother comes to him, but he's already standing up with y/n help and they run after the shapeshifter.
They get up back to the street and look around, trying to spot the shapeshifter.
“All right, let’s split up.” Y/n looks at them already going in one direction.
“All right, I’ll meet you around the other side.” Dean follows the other direction.
“All right.” Sam goes to another one.
They each go in their respective ways with guns drawn, Sam and y/n try to hide it inside their jackets, but Dean holds it out, making some pedestrians run away. After a while searching without any luck and without finding the brothers, the woman decided to go back to where they started. She puts the gun in the back of her pants and goes back to the Impala, but none of the other two are there. Pulling her phone out of her pocket she calls Dean on her speed dial and after a few rings it goes to voicemail.
She hangs up and dials Sam’s number. Again it goes to voicemail. Worry starts to build inside her. Looking around she goes to the driver’s side and unlocks the door with a trick Dean taught her when they were teenagers. Inside the car she tries calling them again, but this time Dean picks up on the second ring.
“Hey!” He says as soon as the line stops ringing.
“Where the hell are you two?” She blurts trying to find the wires underneath the panel with the phone between her shoulder and ear.
“Hello to you too. Where are you?” Dean ignores her question, asking her and emphasizing the last word.
“I’m at the car. Was thinking to head back to Becca, try to ask for her forgiveness.” she tells him only half jokingly.
“Cool. Good. You do that. I'll make another round over here and I'll meet you there. Take the car.” she frowns at the last part.
“Take the car?” she narrows her eyes and starts to pull the wires under the wheel.
“Yeah. You left the Harley at the motel, right?” he asks as a matter of fact.
“Uhum” agreeing she connects the two wires and the car starts “Alright see you two in a minute. Right?” she can tell something's wrong but decides to go along and see what to do after.
“Oh… Yeah. Of course. We'll be right there.” He hangs up.
She drives to Becca's trying to create an action plan. What could she do? Because she was sure that something was off. And the only thing she was coming up with was that the shifter had gotten Dean's form and cell, and probably Dean himself. She dialed  Sam's number again to make sure he was okay and warn him of what she was thinking. But of course he didn't pick up. What if the shifter had gotten him too?
Parking in front of the house, and getting off the car to head to the door she put her phone in her back pocket and made sure her gun was well concealed on the back of her jeans. She rang the bell and waited. “Please, don't be too difficult.” muttering under her breath the same time the door opened, her smile was back quickly. “Hey, Becca. How are you?”
“Oh, hi.” the girl starts, but the hunter cuts her off.
“Look, before you say anything. I know we messed up. Sam doesn’t know I’m here, but I thought I should try and explain ourselves.” she tilts her head and presses her lips together in a small smile “If I get the chance!?” It’s a half question and after some seconds pondering Rebecca leans out of the way and gives her passage. “Thank you!” Her tone is genuine as she passes the frame looking over her shoulder.
“So…” Becca passes the hunter and leads the way to the living room “How do you plan to explain yourselves on this one?” she sits on the couch and look at y/n.
The hunter sighs and sits down by her side, trying to decide if just coming clean and telling the truth is the best course of action. “Would you be able to keep an open mind on what I'm about to tell you? Because I can guarantee you, it will sound insane.” She tilts her head and frowns at the younger girl, knowing that lying wouldn't do any good right now, especially if that thing had really gotten Dean and Sam. She would need the girls' help, one way or the other.
“Uhum… Try me, I guess.” Becca shrugs, what seems to be her uncertainty, off and puts on a sarcastic look on her face.
Y/n rolls her eyes, she can tell the girl has no open mind whatsoever, but she might be able to convince her, if she gets to show everything they have to fight this type of things. Maybe Baby's trunk? That may be a bit harsh. John's journal is just nonsense for someone who doesn't want to believe. And the box of fake id's is just out of the question. So the trunk it is, if it gets to it.
“Okay. So, here's the thing. We know, for certain, your brother didn't kill his girlfriend. We just can't exactly go to the authorities, ‘cause they wouldn't believe in us.” The hunter begins to explain, but Becca's face doesn’t improve much. “Here's the thing…” her tone gets to a slightly harsher point “You know all the scary stories you ever heard growing up? Bloody Mary, vampires, exorcisms, all that crap? It 's mostly real. And yes, I do know that I sound completely insane. And if I hadn't been dealing with all this shit for the past 17 years I wouldn't believe it either. But I’m putting myself out there, ‘cause I don't think lying to you again is going to take us anywhere. So I'm really just asking for you, for god's sake, to keep an open mind.”
She finishes off her ramble and can tell Becca is a little taken aback, she can only hope, now, that the girl decides to listen to her. A few moments pass with the two in complete silence. Y/n is giving Becca time to process and decide for herself what to do,  but she is looking with a hopeful expression to the girl. After pondering for a while she gives in. “Okay, yes, you do sound insane, but let's say you are telling the truth. What, exactly, happened with Emily?” her expressions turn a bit regretful the moment she finishes the sentence, but it is too late, y/n already relaxed and started talking again.
“So, we are dealing with a shapeshifter. It can basically change its appearance to become anyone.”
“Alright… And this thing killed Emily?” she asks.
“Yes, it took Zach's form while Zach was here with you. Went to Emily, since all she saw was him, she let him inside and… Well you know what happened.” the doorbell rang and they both startled on the sofa. Becca got up to answer it and y/n followed her.
“So, this thing could become anyone?” she asks on the way to the door.
“Literally anyone. It just has to know what to look like.” the hunter explained.
When the girl opens the door Dean is standing on the other side. “Hey, look who I found” he looks at the hunter inside the house and then back to Becca “Look, I know what you are going to say.”
“Oh, you do?” the girl asks him, knitting her eyebrows and tilting her head.
“Wel, no, not exactly. But I can take a guess. Get off my porch?”  He tries, giving her a charming smile. Y/n feels her muscles relaxing a little. Maybe she was being a little paranoid, he sounds ‘Dean’ enough.
Rebecca laughs and nods “That's about right, but y/n here was trying to make me understand why you lied.” she motioned the hunter behind her. His eyes followed and met with hers.
“Great.” he looked back at Becca. “Sam told me not to come, but you know, I thought, what the hell,I have to try explaining to her.” he finishes.
The younger hunter muscles tighten back again. That didn't sound right. Dean did have a mind of his own, and whenever they disagreed he would try to convince everyone he was right. And he had that power, he was persuasive enough to make Sam agree to try his way before anything else. Becca stepped back, after pondering for a couple of seconds, giving him space to enter the house. He entered and they headed to the living room.
“So where is Sam?” y/n asks over her shoulder to Dean.
“Oh, I dropped him off at the motel.” dropped him off? But she was with the car… Se couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong.
“Okay, so to recap, you’re saying that there’s something out there that made itself look like my brother.” Rebecca asked, sitting back down on the sofa.
“Exactly.” She answers and sits too. Dean sits across from her.
“What’d you call it?” she questions, clearly trying to keep up.
“A shapeshifter.” Rebecca laughs. “Yeah, maybe we’re crazy. But what if we’re not? I mean, look, you said it yourself that Zack was in two places at once. Now, tell me how that can happen.” she reasons and Rebecca's laugh starts to die.
“Right, and this thing… it can make itself look like anybody?” she doesn't wait for the answer she already has. “Well, what is it, like a genetic freak?” Y/n opens her mouth to answer but Dean laughs. The two look at him.
“Maybe.” he says “Evolution is about mutation, right? So, maybe this thing was born human but was different. Hideous and hated. Until he learned to become someone else.” he tells Rebecca and y/n frowns the slightest.
“I'll be right back, just need to run to the restroom.” She smiles with tight lips and goes to the corridor but stays to listen to the conversation. She knows there's something off, but he needs to pinpoint what.
“It’s funny.” Dean continues “I kind of understand him. He’s all alone…” he pauses and she  hears some fabric rustling “Close to no one. All he wants is for someone to love him. He’s like me. You know, everybody needs a little human touch now and then. It’s so hard to be different.” he pauses between sentences. What the hell. Was he seriously flirting like that right now?
“Dean!” she comes back to the room and sees him sitting in her place now, with one hand on Rebecca's hair, while the girl is looking very uncomfortable. “Can I talk to you really quick? In the kitchen?” she crosses her way to the kitchen without waiting and hears him following her.
“Yes, darling?” he asks when they get to the kitchen.
“What are you doing? We have to convince her we are not crazy and explain everything, it is not the moment for that type of flirting.” she whispers incredulously, stopping, shaking her head and continuing “It is not the time for any flirting, whatsoever.”
“Are you jealous, honey? I noticed how you seem uncomfortable every time I flirt with someone else. I've been wondering lately if it was just the wish to be in their places.” he takes two steps closer, getting in her personal space.  She tilts her head up to look in his eyes since he's taller than her. That's proof she was right. It doesn't matter how horny Dean is. He wouldn't compromise a job. He knew better.
She swallows loudly, pretending to be caught off guard and takes a step back hitting the island. “Wha… What?”
“You don't have to be jealous. I'd like to redirect those flirty comments your way. I'd love to be kissing you. And not sharing beds just to sleep with Sam in the bedroom too.” Her hand, slowly looking for the knife stand, stops for a second. How could he know that? That they would share a bed to sleep. But she didn't have time for that right now. She was probably just misinterpreting things, anyway.
“Dean… What are you…?” he gets even closer to her, with his body pressing her against the counter. Dropping his head, with parted lips and eyes closed. How many times have she imagined Dean doing that to her. But the thing was, this was not Dean!
She grabbed a knife, pressing it against his throat.  “Where is he? What did you do?”
“Whoa, Chip. What are you talking about?” the pressure of the knife faltered for a millisecond. How did he know her nickname? The tiny confusion was enough for the shifter, tough. “I really wish you had gone to the restroom.” he says just seconds before hitting her hand with his forearm making her drop the blade and pinning both her hands down.
He was way stronger than she is, so she knew brute strength wouldn't do any good. Before he could move from her front she headed his nose, hearing a crushing noise, but the shifter didn't weaken his grip as she had expected, instead he just cursed a lot and tightened her wrists into one of his hands. She allowed it, knowing that way would be easier to get herself free. She could also call for help from Becca, but the shifter would probably knock her out and go to the girl before she could do anything.
“You know, Dean spent so much time trying to ignore his attraction towards you.” the shifter said while turning her back to him and holding her with two hands again. Crap! “He actually feels guilty, because you were supposed to be a little sister, you know?” He guides her to the drawers and starts opening them from the bottom to the top until he finds something to tie her up.
“Go to hell.” is her only reply. He opens the second to last drawer and finds some cable ties.
“Oh, would you look at that?” He grins and holds her hands together again grabbing them. “Perfect.” Why would Rebecca have that in her kitchen drawer is beyond the hunter, but she only had a few seconds before he locked her wrists in place. She tugged her left hand from his grip, hoping he would be too focused on the ties to be quick enough, but… “Uh-hu, come on now. You really think it would be that easy?”
His grip didn't bulge, in fact he just got quicker to tie her hands together. “Where the fuck is Dean?” she asks when he turns her back to face him.
“Look… chip!” He used her nickname again with a hand going to her throat and constricting her airway. “I really wish I could chat and tell you all about the hundreds of times he took other girls to the rooms because he was too frustrated you would never be interested in him.” Squeezing tighter and tighter her throat while guiding her backwards until the back of her knees hit a chair and he forced her down to sit. Her head started to feel lightheaded for the lack of oxygen. “I would gladly explain everything that went to his mind every time you would go out of the bars with a different guy.”
“I don't know what you’re on about, but this is not gonna work!” Her voice was strained, but she needed him to stop talking. Hearing Dean's voice saying all those things was weird and would only make her fantasies stronger, even though she knew it wasn't him, even though she knew it couldn't be true. He got down on the side of her chair, taking away her chance to kick him and tied her leg to the chair leg with another cable tie, doing the same thing on the other side and only then standing in front of her.
“I think you do.” He got really close to her ear and whispered, placing a kiss there. This was probably gonna be her last chance, so she closed her eyes to make him believe she was giving in, the shudder her body made wasn't planned, but helped. He traced her jaw and when got close enough pressed his lips against hers, she bit him, as deep as she could and tasted a little bit of blood. “Fucking bitch.”
He stepped back and hit her face with the back of his hand and she feels her cheekbone burn. “Yeah, I don't have time for that. I'm going to play a little with Becca, so if you excuse me.” And the shifter raises his arm and knocks the hunter out with one swing to her temple.
Sam and Dean are walking back to the motel room when they pass by a store window with a TV with the news on. The reporter is in front of Becca's house “An anonymous tip led police to a home in the Central West End, where a S.W.A.T team discovered two women bound and gagged. Her attacker, a white male, approximately twenty-four to thirty years of age, was discovered hiding in her home.” A sketch of what was supposed to be Dean appears on the screen. The drawing has a few alterations that could make people confused, but it would still make the police doubt him.
“Man! That’s not even a good picture.” he points at the TV with his brows furrowed.
Sam looks around cautiously and returns to Dean. “It's good enough.” The reporter is back on screen.
“Wait, look.” Dean points at the images of Becca's house and both the Harley and Baby parked in front of it. “Y/n was there!”
“Crap!” Sam says at the same time “Now I get why the drawing was so out, she tried to save your ass.” Sam looks around again. “So we know why she wasn't picking up.” He walks off and Dean follows him.
“Come on.” Sam enters an alley and Dean, looking too distressed, steps into a puddle.Sam pauses. “They said attempted murder. At least we know…”
“I didn’t kill her.” He cuts the youngest off, his voice colder than usual. They continued walking.
“We’ll check with Rebecca’s in the morning, see if she’s all right. Y/n maybe back to the hotel.” Sam told him trying to calm him down.
“All right, but I wanna find that handsome devil and kick the holy crap out of him.” Dean tell Sam as he stops walking.
“Dean, we have no weapons. No silver bullets.” He tries to reason with his brother but can see in his eyes it doesn’t do much.
“Sam, the guy’s walkin’ around with my face, okay? He had y/n, it’s a little personal, I wanna find him.” He shifts his weight showing how anxious he really is.
Sam sighs defeated, knowing he can’t argue with his brother. “Okay. Where do we look?”
“Well, we could start with the sewers.” He looks at the manhole at the end of the alley.
“We have no weapons. He stole our guns, we need more.” Sam pauses for a couple of seconds and raises an eyebrow. “The car?”
“It’s at Rebecca’s.” Dean’s eyes glimmer. “I saw it on the news.”
Y/n had already talked to two different doctors, assuring them she was okay after the first one had cleaned the cut on her cheekbone, three police officers and one reporter. She used this advantage to try and deceive them, giving false tips about Dean's appearance and name. When she noticed the fourth officer coming her way, she tried to dodge him, but he intercepted her way.
“Miss, can I ask you just a  couple of more questions?” he asked, on her way to the end of the street.
“I already answered all I could three times.” She complained looking past the man, noticing Dean and Sam, but before she could tell them to leave…
“It's him, isn't it?” A voice called from behind her, making the officer who was trying to talk to her turn and a few of them are already running past her.
”I don't think it's him guys, his hair was darker!” She tried and hurried behind them, seeing when Dean jumped off a fence and Sam stayed behind.
“Don’t move! Keep your hands where I can see ‘em.” Sam does as the officer instructed and looks over his shoulder.
“Miss, you can't be here. Go home, if we have any follow up questions we'll call you!” A middle aged man comes to her encounter and stops her from reaching Sam and the officers surrounding him.
“What ‘gonna happen to him?” she asks letting the officer turn her around and lead her away.
“He'll be take to the station to answer some questions, we're gonna find the one that gt away, he won't hurt you anymore. Don't worry!”
“It wasn't him!” she tried one more time “I know who I saw, and it wasn't that guy!” She points to the direction Dean went.
“Don't you worry about it anymore.” The man dismissed her. She got to the Harley and looked ack to see Sam entering a police car nodding to her, trying to reassure her. She sighed and hopped on the bike, heading to their motel. Maybe Dean went there too.
Arriving at the mote she got off the bike and headed to their room, but before getting to the door, she felt a blinding pain in her head and passed out.
Her eyes were heavy, and as she forced them open, her senses coming back, slowly. The shar pain on the back of her head came back with full force. Her vision readjusted to the see that she is on the sewers, the shapeshifter's home. Her feet are tied together, and hands are tied behind her back over a pipe, as well.Next to a wall, across from her, she sees herself. The shifter, on her form, is trying to catch her breath.
“Shit. This change will never not be unpleasant.” The shifter looked up and saw that she was awake. “Oh, good morning. Sorry I can't stay long. But I have to finish the job, you know. Do you think Rebecca will trust you or Dean more?” The grin her own face was giving her was diabolical.
“Go to hell.” she spat, but the shifter didn't gave her attention, instead jus threw a white sheet on top of her and she heard steps getting farther and farther.
She started twisting her hands, trying to test the knots on the ropes. After a while trying to release her hands, panting a little bit. Her arms were already aching from the position and the pressure she was putting on them to release them, twisting and turning in weird ways, grunting every now and then. When suddenly she starts to hear footsteps again. She went as sill as she possibly could, and the sheet was pulled from on top of her and Dean was looking at her.
“Y/n?” he asked exasperated. She looked in his eyes, trying to decide if it was really him or not. “What happened?” he goes to her back and starts untying her feet.
“I was going to the motel, and everything just went white.” she notices his gaze going every now and then to her face and throat “Someone hit me over the head, and I woke up here just in time to see that thing had turned into me.” he sets her feet free and she gets up almost falling again when her legs give out and dizziness blurred her vision.
“Okay, okay.” He catched her before she fell “Are you okay?” He holds her up by her elbow with one hand and the other hand goes to her cheek. “Come on. Can you walk?” his eyes are concerned looking deep in hers. The shifter couldn't recreate that look. The look he gave that showed that his whole attention was on her and that she was his only concern at that moment.  When she nodded his eyes traced her left cheek and then her neck again. “Are you okay?” he asked and she nodded again. With the slightest brush of his thumb over the stitch on her cheek he checked “Sure?”
“”I’m fine. Swear.” she reassured him, letting go of his shirt, that she used for support. “We have to go, now. He went back to Rebecca's!” She diverted her gaze from his and took a few steps.
“Did you see Sam?” he asked her when they started heading out of the sewer.
“The cops took him to ask some questions. But that was right after you ran.” she glanced at him “Wait. Did you really come down here by yourself? What was the plan?”
“I couldn’t wait around. The son of a bitch had my face on. My memories.” He looked at her, scanning through the bruises and landing on her eyes “The guy had you! I had to do something.”
“You’re the stupidest moron I’ve ever known.” She replied shaking her head “But thank you!” Her voice softened and a small smile appeared on her lips. They started walking again and she looked at him “You know what was weird, that I can wrap my head around?” He made a noise for her to continue. “The shifter, when he was you, he was you! He called me chip. How could’ve he known the nickname?”
“Yeah. He does this thing. He kinda downloads memories from us. Sam and I guess that’s why he doesn’t just kill us.” Dean explains and they arrive at the manhole.
The two hunters went straight to Rebecca’s house, not saying much afterwards. Arriving there they notice the living room light on. Entering as quietly as possible they hear a commotion from the door, hurrying inside.
“You’re not him.” Sam says and a loud noise echoes again, followed by many thump sounds.
“Even when we were kids, I always kicked your ass.” Dean's voice says right after the sound of broken glass. They enter the room and the shifter is pinning Sam to the floor, choking him.
“Hey!” Dean says and the shifter looks at him, getting off Sam and looking at Dean. Y/n uses the moment and fires two shots to his chest. The shapeshifter falls to the ground, dead. She runs to Sam, helping him sit up.
“Damn!” Dean walks to the shapeshifter’s body and notices him wearing his necklace. Dean yanks it from around the shapeshifter’s neck and nods knowingly at the two. They find Rebecca on the next room over and untie her.
They head outside after making sure the girl is okay and Sam explained every detail to her. “So, this is what you do? You and your family… you hunt down these kinds of things?” She asked him standing outside of the house.
Dean and y/n go to the car. He opens the trunk and she tosses the gun back inside. “I think we’re even now. From all the times I promised killing you… you know? I just did.” She grins at him.
“Yeah. Sure.” He chuckles without too much emotion.
“What is it?” Y/n cocks her head to the side leaning on the car.
“He hurt you pretty bad. I…” Dean’s eyes go from her eyes to the bruised temple, passing through some marks and landing on the purple fingers around her neck. “I’m sorry.” He looked at his boots.
“Hey, It wasn’t your fault! It wasn’t you and I’m fine. It wasn’t you!” She touched his cheek to make him look at her. “Besides, don’t forget that I did kill you!” She smiled big.
“Yeah, but I can see the murder promises are coming back very soon.”
“Oh yeah. For sure. Don’t you worry." She chuckles and looks back to Sam, seeing Rebecca waving at them. They wave back and she goes inside.
Sam walks over to the car. And Dean asks. “So, what about your friend, Zack?”
“Cops are blamin’ this Jack Whitlock guy for Emily’s murder. They found the murder weapon in the guy’s lair, Zack’s clothes stained with her blood. Now they’re thinking maybe the surveillance tape was tampered with. Yeah, Becca says Zack will be released soon.” He smiles and Dean frowns “I’m guessing that was you?” He looks at her.
“It was hard having to correct every single thing Rebecca said to try and clear his ass, but at least the name I convinced was fake.” She smiled back to the brothers.
“Nice!” “Awesome.” They turn to get in the car, y/n sitting on the back seat until they get to the motel, where she would get her Harley back.
“Could you have imagine, Sam?” She questions out of nowhere. He frowns and looks at her over his shoulder. “The idea of having two Deans out in the world.” She smiles wickedly and looks at the older brother through the rear view mirror.
“Oh god.” Sam fakes a shudder.
“I can already feel the headache.” She continues.
“Oh, shut up the two of you.” He rolls his eyes and pull the car out of the parking spot.

“Sam, wake up.” Sam jolts awake and looks at his brother on the driver seat of the Impala looking at him concerned. Y/n is on his window with a hand still on his shoulder, from trying to wake him up. The large building in front of the parked car tells him they arrived in the hospital in Toledo, Ohio, where they found a possible next case.
“I take it I was having a nightmare.” Sam looks between the two older hunters.
Y/n nods “Yeah, another one.”
“Hey, at least I got some sleep.” He gives Dean a small smile.
“You know, sooner or later we're gonna have to talk about this.” his brother replied sternly
“Are we here?” Sam tries to change the subject.
“Yup. Welcome to Toledo, Ohio.” Dean tells him and gets out of the car. Y/n gives Sam space to do the same. He grabs the newspaper with the obituary they circled earlier  from his pocket.
Shoemaker, Steven
The Shoemaker family is sad to announce the sudden death of their beloved husband and father Steven Shoemaker. Steven was 46. A short service will be held on Wednesday, [...] 31 at 2:00 p.m. at the Toledo [...] and cherish you [...] Your [...]
“So what do you think really happened to this guy?” Sam looks at the two in front of him.
“That's what we're gonna find out.” Dean says turning around and heading inside. “Let's go.”
The trio walks into room 144, marked Morgue. There's two desks. The empty one has a nameplate that says Dr. D. Fejklowicz and y/n tries to memorize the name. The table has the morgue technician. “Hey.” the man looks up at them.
“Hey.” Dean replies and smiles at him.
“Can I help you?” he asks when noone says anything.
“Yeah. We're the, uh… med students.” Dean replies after a quick glance at Sam and y/n.
“Sorry?” the technician asks, frowning.
“Oh, Doctor…” y/n tries to save but the name was complicated “...Figlavitch didn't tell you?” she tries knowing she got it wrong, but keeps going “We talked to him on the phone. He, uh, we're from Ohio State.” she smiles fondly at the man sitting down “He's supposed to show us the Shoemaker corpse. It's for our paper.”
“Well, I'm sorry, he's at lunch.” the man tights his lip in a false smile and points with his thumb to the other desk.
“Oh well he said, uh...” she looks quickly at her best friends and back at him
“Oh, well, you know, it doesn't matter. You don't mind just showing us the body, do you?” Dean tries.
“Sorry, I can't.” he simply says and looks down at the magazine he is reading. “Doc will be back in an hour. You can wait for him if you want.”
“An hour? Ooh. We gotta be heading back to Columbus by then.” Dean looks at y/n with a concerned expression.
“Yeah.” she agrees.
“Uh, look, man, this paper's like half our grade, so if you don't mind helping us out…” Dean tries one more time looking back to the man.
“Uh, look, man...no.” the technician sits up, putting the magazine down, and stares at Dean.
Dean laughs a little, turning around and mumbles to Sam and y/n. “I'm gonna hit him in his face I swear.”
Y/n puts her hand on Dean’s arm and pushes him out of the way a little. Sam steps in front of them and opens his wallet pulling out some twenties. He lays a few of them, at least five, down on the technician's desk. He picks up the money and gets up. “Follow me.”
Dean grabs Sam when he tries to follow. “Dude, I earned that money.”
“You won it in a poker game.” y/n retorts and passes between the two following the morgue technician.
“Yeah.” he replies but Sam already followed her and Dean is alone. He goes after the rest of the group.
“Now the newspaper said his daughter found him. She said his eyes were bleeding.” Sam states when the man pulls back the sheet over Steven's face.
“More than that. They practically liquefied.” he tells Sam and the trio looks at the corpse’s face.
“Any sign of a struggle? Maybe somebody did it to him?” Dean asks, going to the side of  the table.
“Nope. Besides the daughter, he was all alone.” the man answers.
“What's the official cause of death?” y/n looks at him with curiosity.
“Ah, Doc's not sure. He's thinking massive stroke, maybe an aneurysm? Something burst up in there, that's for sure.” the guy says as he motions to Steven’s head.
“What do you mean?” Sam looks back at the dead man.
“Intense cerebral bleeding. This guy had more blood in his skull than anyone I've ever seen.”
“The eyes. What would cause something like that?” y/n asks him with her eyebrows knitted.
“Capillaries can burst. See a lot of bloodshot eyes with stroke victims.”
“Yeah? You ever see exploding eyeballs?” Dean looks at the man.
“That's a first for me, but hey, I'm not the doctor.” he laughs humorlessly.
“Hey, think we could take a look at that police report? You know for, uh… our paper.” Dean asks him.
“I'm not really supposed to show you that.” the guy looks back at Sam who  pulls out his wallet again looking annoyed.
The man takes them back and shuffles through his desk pulling one folder out and hands it to Sam. He opens it while the man sits back down and reopens his magazine. Dean and y/n go to each side of Sam and look at the papers with him.
After some time, they give the folder back to the technician and head out. “Might not be one of ours. Might just be some freak medical thing.” Sam says as they start climbing down the stairs.
“Yeah, but how many times in John’s long and varied career has it actually been a freak medical thing and not some sign of an awful supernatural death?” y/n looks over her shoulder at him without stopping.
“Uh, almost never.” he replies.
“Exactly.” Dean agrees and they head out of the door going to the vehicles.
“All right, let's go talk to the daughter.” Sam says entering the Impala when Dean and y/n go to their respectives driving seats.
When they arrive at the house the funeral is still happening. There is a picture of Steven on the desk. The attendees are all men in black suits and women in black dresses, except the trio.
“Feel like we're underdressed.” Dean jokes when they walk in looking around. They keep going through the house towards the back. They ask a man about Donna and Lilly, Steven’s daughters, they are sitting with their friends.
“You must be Donna, right?” Dean asks when they get close enough. Dean and Sam get to the circle first and y/n see one of the friends eyeing the two hunters with interest, making the woman roll her eyes.
“Yeah.” The girl with the shorter hair says.
“Hi, uh… we're really sorry.” Y/n tells her making the
“Thank you.” she replies.
“I'm Sam, this is Dean and that's y/n. We worked with your dad.” As Sam tells the girls look at each other and Donna looks back at Sam.
“You did?” she asks incredulously.
“Yeah. This whole thing. I mean, a stroke.” Dean cuts in quickly.
“I don't think she really wants to talk about this right now” one of their friends says.
“It's okay. I'm okay.” she replies looking at her friend and smile.
“Were there any symptoms? Dizziness? Migraines?” y/n questions the girl and she shakes her head.
“No.” the little girl by her side turns around facing them.
“That's because it wasn't a stroke.” she states. The trio frowns.
“Lily, don't say that.” the older sister looks at her.
“What?” Sam asks.
“I'm sorry, she's just upset.” Donna tells them.
“No, it happened because of me.” the girl looks back at the hunters.
“Sweetie, it didn't.” her sister tries one more time. Y/n goes around the group and crouches in front of the girl.
“Lily. Why would you say something like that?” she asks worried.
“Right before he died, I said it.” the girl looks sadly at the hunter.
“You said what?” she questions looking in the girl’s eyes.
“Bloody Mary, three times in the bathroom mirror.” she says. Y/n pauses and looks at the boys “She took his eyes, that's what she does.”
“That's not why Dad died. This isn't your fault.” her sister puts her hand in Lilly’s shoulder.
“I think your sister's right, Lily. There's no way it could have been Bloody Mary. Your dad didn't say it, did he?” Dean goes close to her as well and stops behind y/n.
“No, I don't think so.” The girl looks up at him. Y/n gets up and turns around, realizing Dean is much closer than she expected.
“I’m sorry for your loss, again.” Sam says and turns to leave. Y/n and Dean stare at each other for a heartbeat and then follow him. Her heart is running a marathon, but she keeps her face straight as they enter the house and go up the stairs.
“The Bloody Mary legend… Dad ever find any evidence that it was a real thing?” Sam pushes the bathroom door open. There is still some dried blood on the floor.
“Not that I know of.” Dean looks at y/n wondering if she remembers something, but she shakes her head denying it as well.
Sam stoops to the floor and touches the dried blood. “I mean, everywhere else all over the country, kids will play Bloody Mary, and as far as we know, nobody dies from it.” he looks up at the other two.
“Yeah, well, maybe everywhere it's just a story, but here it's actually happening.” Dean says looking around the bathroom.
“The place where the legend began?” Sam wonders out loud and gets up. Dean shrugs and y/n opens the medicine cabinet. “But according to the legend, the person who says B…” he stops short when he notices the medicine cabinet mirror is now facing him, and closes it “The person who says you know what gets it. But here…”
“Shoemaker gets it instead, yeah.” y/n finishes for him.
“Right.”
“Never heard anything like that before. Still, the guy did die right in front of the mirror, and the daughter's right. The way the legend goes, you know who scratches your eyes out.” she eyes the mirror too.
“It's worth checking in to.” Sam says as they start going out of the bathroom.
“What are you doing up here?” One of Donna’s friends asks, stopping in front of them.
“We… we had to go to the bathroom.” Dean says and the other two look at him with slightly widened eyes in disbelief with the lie.
“Who are you?” the girl questions them.
“Like we said downstairs, we worked with Donna's dad.” Dean explains.
“He was a day trader or something. He worked by himself.” the girl retorts with both hands on her hips.
“No, I know, I meant…” he starts.
“And all those weird questions downstairs, what was that? So you tell me what's going on, or I start screaming.” she looks at them, specifically to the two men, threatening..
“All right, all right. We think something happened to Donna's dad.” Sam raises his hands.
“Yeah, a stroke.” she adds.
“That's not a sign of a typical stroke. We think it might be something else.” y/n tells her.
“Like what?”
“Honestly? We don't know yet. But we don't want it to happen to anyone else. That's the truth.” Sam tells her.
“So, if you're gonna scream, go right ahead.” Dean tells her, narrowing his eyes a little.
“Who are you, cops?” she asks them. The look at each other.
“Something like that.” Dean tells her.
“I'll tell you what. Here.” Sam reaches into his pocket, pulls out a paper and pen, and starts writing down his cell number  “If you think of anything, you or your friends notice anything strange, out of the ordinary… just give us a call.” he hands her the paper as they walk down the hallway.
“All right, say Bloody Mary really is haunting this town. There's gonna be some sort of proof… Like a local woman who died nasty.” Dean says as they walk into a building.
“Yeah but a legend this widespread it's hard. I mean, there's like 50 versions of who she actually is. One story says she's a witch, another says she's a mutilated bride, there's a lot more.” y/n turns to enter the library.
“All right, so what are we supposed to be looking for?” Dean looks down at her.
“Every version has a few things in common. It's always a woman named Mary, and she always dies right in front of a mirror. So we've gotta search for local newspapers… public records as far back as they go. See if we can find a Mary who fits the bill.” she adds.
“Well that sounds annoying.” Dean looks back ahead.
“No it won't be so bad, as long as we…” Sam starts but he then sees the computers which all say ‘Out of Order’ on them and stops giving a light chuckle “I take it back. This will be very annoying.”
They check some files out and head back to the motel. At the motel, Dean went to check in and y/n hopped off the Harley grabbed her duffel, unbuckling it from the passenger seat, and went to Sam and the Impala.
“202” Dean announced and motioned in the direction with his head. The two followed him. The room was simple, it only had two beds, no pull-out. So they would be sharing.
Growing up the way they did, sharing beds wasn’t something new. They would sleep in the same bed more often than not, as a matter of fact. They would alternate pairs (and sometimes, when John was away, one would have a bed for themselves). They even slept all three on the same bed when they were kids, but soon enough Dean was too big to share with other two, so they went back to pairs.
Dean entered first and dropped his papers on the table by the window. Y/n and Sam followed, each dropping a bag on one bed. “I’m going to grab some snacks, want anything?” Y/n asked the two brothers.
“Mm-hmm” Dean answers but Sam only shakes his head. She leaves the room and follows the hallways until she finds a vending machine. Grabbing a turkey sandwich for Dean and cookies for herself she heads back to the room. They accommodate themselves, each on a different spot, and start reading different obituaries to try and find a Mary who was killed in front of a mirror.
“This is imp…” Dean starts but the woman shushes him.
She lowers the finger she had put in front of her lips. “Sam’s asleep.” She whispers.
He looks past the bed she’s crossed legged on and spots a laying Sam with his eyes closed. “Good.” He whispers back.
“Yeah. How can he function so well with the amount of sleep he’s been getting is beyond me.” She turns back to look at Dean “18 years having a bad sleep routine and I’m still not used to it.” She rolls her eyes chuckling a little.
“At least you’re not too grumpy when you’re tired. Otherwise I would’ve murdered you and blamed on a werewolf.” He gives her an amused smile and she rolls her eyes, going back to read more obituaries.
After 20 minutes Sam jolts awake and looks around. The other two look at him “Why'd you let me fall asleep?” He asks passing his hands through his hair.
“‘Cause I'm an awesome brother. So what did you dream about?” He asks putting te file down.
“Lollipops and candy canes.” The youngest say sarcastically.
“Yeah, sure.” Y/n disapproves his scorn.
“Did you find anything?” He asks them
“Oh besides a whole new level of frustration?” Dean starts and Sam sits back up on his bed “No. we’ve looked at everything.”
“A few local women, a Laura and a Catherine committed suicide in front of a mirror, and a giant mirror fell on a guy named Dave, but uh, no Mary.” Y/n says as she reads through the files on the side.
“Maybe we just haven't found it yet.” Sam falls back into the bed
“I've also been searching for strange deaths in the area, you know...eyeball bleeding, that sort of thing. There's nothing. Whatever's happening here, maybe it just ain't Mary.” Dean says looking over all the papers spread through the bed and table.
Sam’s phone rings and he answers it. “Hello?” He says and a concerned look crosses his face before he speaks again “okay, try to calm down we’re coming to you. Stay there!” He hangs up and looks up to Dean and y/n “It was Charlie, Donna’s friend. She’s at the park waiting for us. Their other friend is dead.” He explains getting up and the the other two already started putting their shoes back on to leave.
Already at the park Charlie is telling them about the phone call she had with Jill, the friend who died, right before her death “And they found her on the bathroom floor. And her… her eyes. They were gone.” She chokes.
“I'm sorry.” Sam says sitting by her side.
“And she said it.” Sam looks up at the two “I heard her say it. But it couldn't be because of that. I'm insane, right?” She looks between the three hunters.
“No, you're not insane.” Y/n reassures her
“Oh God, that makes me feel so much worse.” The girls looks back down.
“Look. We think something's happening here. Something that can't be explained.” Sam starts trying to catch her attention back.
“And we're gonna stop it but we could use your help.” Dean tells her.
“Do you think you can get us to Jill’s bedroom?” Y/n asked hopeful.
“I think so. Can you guys get to a second floor window?” She looks at the woman.
“We’ll manage.” Dean reassures her.
The three hunters climbed to the roof from a tree and are waiting Charlie by the window she pointed at Jill's. She comes in from the bedroom door and locks it. Going over to the window and opening it. Sam enters first and Dean throws him a duffel bag, giving space for y/n to enter and following right after. Sam sets it on the bed and starts going through it.
“What did you tell Jill's mom?” Sam asks as he ruffles through the bag.
“Just that I needed some time alone with Jill's pictures and things.” She answers as Sam pulls something out of the bag and Dean shuts the curtains. “I hate lying to her.”
“Trust us, this is for the greater good.” Y/n tells her and Dean goes to the interruptor and turns the lights off.
“What are you guys looking for?”
“We'll let you know as soon as we find it.” Dean answers her at the same time Sam stretched a digital camera to y/n.
“Hey, night vision.” He says and she turns the thing on for him and he hands her the camera.
She grabs the digital camera and it is aimed at Dean. He looks up and sees the camera. “Do I look like Paris Hilton?” Dean asks, turning a little and looking over his shoulder. She snorts and walks away slowly with the camera. She opens Jill’s closet door and begins filming around the mirror.
“So I don't get it. I mean… the first victim didn't summon Mary, and the second victim did. How's she choosing them?” Sam turns to Dean and Charlie.
“Beats me.” Dean answers when y/n closes the closet door. “I want to know why Jill said it in the first place.” He turns to Charlie.
“It's just a joke.” Charlie looks up at him.
“Yeah well somebody's gonna say it again, it's just a matter of time.” He says again and looks over at y/n who is in the bathroom filming around the mirror when she stops and sees trickles of something running out from behind the mirror.
“Hey.” She says and Sam and Charlie also turn to look at her “There's a black light in the trunk, right?”
She takes the mirror off the wall and carries it out to Jill's bed and lays it on the bed upside down. Dean comes over with a black light. Y/n peels off the brown paper that is on the back of the mirror. And Dean shines the black light over the back of the mirror and they see a handprint, and the words ‘Gary Bryman’.
“Gary Bryman?” Charlie asks the trio, making all heads snap at her.
“You know who that is?” Sam asks
“No.” She shakes her head.
“Okay. Let’s get out of here.” Y/n says taking the mirror again and putting it back in its place. Sam turned the light back on and Dean puts the camera and the light away on the duffel. They head to the window and get out again. Charlie closes it behind them and goes to the door. They walk slowly to the tree. Sam goes back first. Dean gives him the duffel and climbs down and then turns to help y/n down. “Oh. Thank you” she says smiling when she notices what he’s trying to do.
They go back to the bench. Dean and Charlie are sitting on it, y/n is standing up in front of them and Sam comes up behind her.
“So, Gary Bryman was an 8-year-old boy.” Y/n turns around startled with a hand on her chest “Sorry.” He smiles “Two years ago he was killed in a hit and run. The car was described as a black Toyota Camry. But nobody got the plates or saw the driver.”
“Oh my God.” Charlie half whispers.
“What?” Sam asked at the same time y/n did:
“Did Jill drive one of those?”
“Yeah.” She looks to the woman.
“We need to get back to your friend Donna’s house.” Dean looks at Charlie.
“Linda Shoemaker.” Sam says as he turns the light off and stands up, putting the mirror back on the wall.
“Let’s go talk to Donna.” Dean states and leaves the bathroom.
They all follow him downstairs where they found Donna in the kitchen.
“Hey, we need to ask you a couple of questions. Is that alright?” Y/n asks from behind Dean.
“I guess, sure.” She shrugs.
“Is Linda Shoemaker your mother?” The woman questions Donna
“Uhm, yeah. Why” she answers frowning.
“She died right? How was her relationship with your father?” Did they get in fights a lot?” Dean looks at her.
“Why are you asking me this?” She inquiries.
“Look, we're sorry, but it's important.” Sam tells her
“Yeah. Linda's my mom okay? She overdosed on sleeping pills, it was an accident, and that's it. I think you should leave.” She looks distressed.
“Now Donna, just listen.” Dean starts, trying to talk to her.
“Get out of my house!” She runs upstairs.
“Oh my God. Do you really think her dad could've killed her mom?” Charlie asks the three hunters with a concerned expression.
“Maybe.” Sam replies.
“I think I should stick around.” She tells them
“All right. Whatever you do, don't…” but Charlie cuts Dean off before he can finish.
“Believe me, I won't say it.” She gives them a tight half smile and turns around to go after Donna. The three hunters leave the house.
Dean’s sitting in front of a computer with Sam and y/n behind him. “Wait, wait, wait, you're doing a nationwide search?” Sam asks him when he sees what Dean is typing.
“Yep. The NCIC, the FBI database… at this point any Mary who died in front of a mirror is good enough for me.” Dean answers as he scrolls.
“But if she's haunting the town, she should have died in the town.” He arguments looking between the back of Dean’s head and the screen.
“I'm telling you there's nothing local, we’ve checked. So unless you got a better idea…” he replies to his brother looking STV the screen.
“The way Mary's choosing her victims, it seems like there's a pattern.” Y/n tells them, standing behind Dean with her hands on his chair.
“I know, I was thinking the same thing.” Dean glances over his shoulder quickly.
“With mister Shoemaker and Jill's hit and run.” Sam thinks it over.
Y/n looks at Sam “Both had secrets where people died.”
“Right. I mean there's a lot of folklore about mirrors… that they reveal all your lies, all your secrets, that they're a true reflection of your soul, which is why it's bad luck to break them.” Sam keeps going.
“Right, right. So maybe if you've got a secret, I mean like a really nasty one where someone died, then Mary sees it, and punishes you for it.” Y/n tilts her head raising her eyebrows.
“Whether you're the one that summoned her or not.” Sam finishes.
Dean calls their attention to the screen “Take a look at this.”  He points to a picture of a woman lying by a mirror in a puddle of blood. He prints out another picture and hands it to y/n over his shoulder it is of a handprint and the letters ‘Tre’.
“Looks like the same handprint.” Y/n says looking at the picture.
“Her name was Mary Worthington… an unsolved murder in Fort Wayne, Indiana.” Dean skimmed through the article.
The trio of hunters decided to go to Fort Wayne and try to talk to the detective that worked on Mary’s case. After an hour and 30 minutes with Dean on the wheel, they arrived at the city.
After some research they went to the detective’s house to talk to him.
“I was on the job for 35 years… detective for most of that. Now everybody packs it in with a few loose ends, but the Mary Worthington murder…” he pauses and looks at Dean, who’s in front of him “that one still gets me.”
“What exactly happened?” The oldest hunter asks.
“You kids said you were reporters?” He asks, looking up and down at the three, one at a time.
“We know Mary was 19, lived by herself. We know she won a few local beauty contests, dreamt of getting out of Indiana, being an actress.” Y/n starts by leaving the bookcase behind and joining Dean.
“And we know the night of March 29th someone broke into her apartment and murdered her, cut out her eyes with a knife.” Sam continued.
“That's right.” the detective answered.
“See sir, when we asked you what happened, we wanted to know what you think happened.” Y/n explained to him and the older man went to a file cabinet and pulled some files from it.
“Technically I'm not supposed to have a copy of this.” He opens a file to the picture Sam and Dean found on the computer. “Now see that there? T-R-E?”
“Yeah.” Dean agrees.
“I think Mary was trying to spell out the name of her killer.” He tells them.
“You know who it was?” Sam asks him getting closer.
“Not for sure. But there was a local man, a surgeon… Trevor Sampson.” He pulls out a picture of a man and hands it to the hunters. “And I think he cut her up good.”
“Now why would he do something like that?” Sam questions.
“Her diary mentioned a man that she was seeing. She called him by his initial, ‘T’. Well, her last entry, she was gonna tell ‘T’’s wife about their affair.” He tells them looking up form the papers on the table.
“Yeah but how do you know it was Sampson who killed her?” Dean looks from the mirror picture to the detective.
“It's hard to say, but the way her eyes were cut out… it was almost professional.”
“But you could never prove it?” Y/n half guesses.
“No. No prints, no witnesses. He was meticulous.” The man explains and drops his eyes.
“Is he still alive?” Dean drops the picture on the table.
“Nope.” He sits down and sighs “If you ask me, Mary spent her last living moments trying to expose this guy's secret. But she never could.” He looks up at the hunters who are side by side.
“Where's she buried?” Sam asks.
“She wasn't. She was cremated.” He frowns a little.
“What about that mirror” y/n nods at the one in the picture “It's not in some evidence lockup somewhere is it?”
“Ah, no. It was returned to Mary's family a long time ago.”
“You have the names of her family by any chance?” Dean wonders. The detective pauses for a while and then started looking through the papers on the file handing them one.
They are heading back, after a while with the detective, and y/n is on her cell while Dean is driving and Sam is on the backseat, close to her phone “Oh really? Ah that's too bad Mr. Worthington. I would have paid a lot for that mirror. Okay, well maybe next time. All right, thanks.” She finishes and hangs up.
“So?” Dean asks glancing at her.
“So that was Mary's brother. The mirror was in the family for years, until he sold it one week ago to a store called Estate Antiques. A store in Toledo.” She looks at him
“So wherever the mirror goes, that's where Mary goes?” He question again.
“Her spirit's definitely tied up with it somehow.” Sam leans back.
“Isn't there an old superstition that says mirrors can capture spirits?” She looks over her shoulder.
“Yeah there is. Yeah, when someone would die in a house people would cover up the mirrors so the ghost wouldn't get trapped.” He answers her.
“So Mary dies in front of a mirror, and it draws in her spirit.” Dean complements.
“Yeah but how could she move through like a hundred different mirrors?” Sam wonders looking at his brother through the rear view mirror.
“I don't know, but if the mirror is the source, I say we find it and smash it.” He replies
“Yeah, I don't know, maybe.” Y/n looks over to the front.
Sam’s cell starts to rings. “Hello.” The look of concern comes across his face “Charlie?” He pauses “Okay don’t look at anything that has a reflection and go to 5335 Heatherdowns Blvd and wait for us. We’ll be right there.” He hangs up and looks at Dean “It was Charlie, apparently Donna called bloody Mary on the school restroom and now Charlie is seeing her.”
“Why are adolescents so stupid?” Dea rolls his eyes and starts going faster.
Arriving at  the hotel they find Charlie sitting in front of their door with her hands around her knees and face deep on them. The get to her and Sam helps her get up guiding her to his bed, where she sits and Dean and y/n start covering every window and mirror on the room. After  covering, what they think is everything they look at each other and around, both spotting their reflections on the TV at the same time. Dean gabs anoter sheet and hands the woman one ennd and they cover the TV.
Sam, then, sitsnext to Charlie and says “Hey, hey it's ok. Hey, you can open up your eyes Charlie. It's okay, all right?” the girl lifts her head from her knees slowly “Now listen. You're gonna stay right here on this bed, and you're not gonna look at glass, or anything else that has a reflection, okay? And as long as you do that, she cannot get you.”
“But I can't keep that up forever. I'm gonna die, aren't I?” shhe looks at Sam, her eyes filled with tears.
“No. No. Not anytime soon.” y/n tells her while putting a hand on her shouder while sitting on the end of the bed by thhe one Charlie is.
Dean sits next to y/n and looks at Charlie “All right Charlie. We need to know what happened.”
“We were in the bathroom. Donna said it.” The girl starts but y/n cuts her off.
“That's not what we're talking about. Something happened, didn't it? In your life… a secret… where someone got hurt. Can you tell us about it?” she asks drpping her hand back to her own lap.
“I had this boyfriend. I loved him. But he kind of scared me too, you know? And one night, at his house, we got in this fight. Then I broke up with him, and he got upset, and he said he needed me and he loved me, and he said ‘Charlie, if you walk out that door right now, I'm gonna kill myself.’ And you know what I said? I said ‘Go ahead.’ And I left. How could I say that? How could I leave him like that? I just… I didn't believe him, you know? I should have.” She puts her face back on her knees and starts crying again.
The three  hunters look at each other and then back to the girl.
Dean is driving the Impala, with Sam in shotgun and y/n on the backseat. “You know her boyfriend killing himself, that's not really Charlie's fault.” he says looking at the road.
“You know as well as I do spirits don't exactly see shades of gray, Dean. Charlie had a secret, someone died, that's good enough for Mary.” Sam looks at his brother.
“I guess.”
“You know, I've been thinking. It might not be enough to just smash that mirror.” Sam continues.
“Why, what do you mean?” he asks quickly at the youngest.
“Well Mary's hard to pin down, right? I mean she moves around from mirror to mirror so who's to say that she's not just gonna keep hiding in them forever? So maybe we should try to pin her down, you know, summon her to her mirror and then smash it.” he tells them.
“Well how do you know that's going to work?” y/n questions.
“I don't, not for sure.”
“Well who's gonna summon her?” Dean wonders as soon asSam finishes.
“I will. She'll come after me.” Sam looks bac to the road.
“You know what, that's it.” Dean says and pulls the car over. “This is about Jessica, isn't it? You think that's your dirty little secret that you killed her somehow?” he turns his body to half face his brother.
“Sam, this has got to stop.” y/n looks at him concernedd coming closer. “I mean, the nightmares and calling her name out in the middle of the night.. it's gonna kill you. Now listen to me… It wasn't your fault.” she puts a hand on his shoulder to make her look at him but he doesn't.
“Exactly. If you wanna blame something, then blame the thing that killed her. Or hell, why don't you take a swing at me? I mean I'm the one that dragged you away from her in the first place.” Dean tells looking up and shaking his head.
“I don't blame you.” he then looks at his brother.
“Well you shouldn't blame yourself, because there's nothing you could've done.” y/n tells him.
“I could've warned her.” he looks back at her.
“About what? You didn't know what was gonna happen! And besides, all of this isn't a secret, I mean I know all about it. It's not gonna work with Mary anyway.” Dean says, but as he starts to turn back to the wheel Sam speaks.
“No you don't.”
“I don't what?” Dean and y/n frown.
“You don't know all about it. I haven't told you everything.” Sam looks at his hands.
“What are you talking about?” the woman with an anxious voice.
“Well it wouldn't really be a secret if I told you, would it?” Sam half smiles looking at them without turning his face.
The two expressions shift to surprise. “No. I don't like it. It's not gonna happen, forget it.” Dean tells and finally turns back to the steering wheel.
“Dean, that girl back there is going to die unless we do something about it. And you know what? Who knows how many more people are gonna die after that? Now we're doing this. You've got to let me do this.” he looks  at his brother, determined and shoots a glance to y/n on the backseat to make sure she doesn't try to argue too.
Dean huffs and starts driving again, mumbling complaints every now and then. Y/n spends the rest of the way looking at Sam with her eyebrows together, trying to come up with a plan where his life won't be at risk. The youngest hunter ignores them. When they arrive at the shop no one has  a better idea, so the plan remains the same. They get out of the car and grab a couple of crowbars, going to the entrance, where Sam gets down to pick the lock.
Once Sam succeeds they enter and start looking around. At the back of the store they see many mirrors. “Well...that's just great.” Dean moans  as he pulls out the picture of Mary's dead body to look at the mirror “All right let's start looking.” he shows the other two the picture, holding a lantern over it so they can see it better. They split up and walk around the store “Maybe they've already sold it.” as Dean is finishing his sentence y/n's flashlight tops on the mirror.
“I don't think so.” she says and calls them over. Deann walks over to her and pulls out the picture again to compare.
“That's it.” he sighs and looks at Sam “You sure about this?” Sam hands Dean his flashlight.
He sighs “Bloody Mary. Bloody Mary.” he looks at the other two who give him an unsure look back. Sam picks up the crowbar and holds it over his shoulder “Bloody Mary.”
Dean turns to see a light coming through the store windows and nudges y/n. “We'll go check that out. Stay here, be careful.” she instructs Sam who rearranges his shoulders and readies the crowbar again.
“Smash anything that moves.”  Dean and y/n go silently towards the front door. They see a headlight “Crap.” He puts the crowbar down and they begin to walk to the door.
The two leave the store together to talk to the police. “Hold it.” one officer says and they stop.
“Whoa guys, false alarm, I tripped the system.” Dean chuckles lightly but the police men remain unimpressed.
“Who are you?” another officer asks.
“I'm the boss's kid.” he smiles politely.
“You're Mister Yamashiro's kid?” the first cop questions.
“I was  adopted.”Dean answers without hesitation, as he has been saying this his entire life.
“And who are you?” one of them looks at y/n and shifts the gun a little.
“I'm his fiancé.” She smiles lovingly and holds Dean's hand.
“What do you guys need here?” the cop questions.
“My father asked me to grab some stuff for him.” Dean tells him.
“Can I see some ID?” the officer said and Dean grabs his wallet on the back pocket, handing the man his id.
“You're not Yamashiro.” the man raises an eyebrow.
“Like I said, I was adopted.” He lifts his hand asking for the id back.
“Yeah.” one officer says as another walks around to be on the two hunter’s back.
“You know, we just… I really don't have time for this right now.” Dean punches the cop in front of them and y/n turns and kicks the other on the stomach. They are now on the ground.
The two hunters  run back inside and as they getting closer they seeSam on the floor looking at the mirror. Dean grabbed the crowbar on the way in and goes through the mirror  as y/n goes to Sam.”Sam, Sammy!”
“It's Sam.” Sam tells her as Dean squats down by her side to look at him.
“God, are you okay?” “God, are you okay?” Dean asks and puts one arm on y/n back to steady himself as he cleans one side of the blood that came out of his eyes.
“Uh, yeah.” he answers, starting to get up.
“Come on, come on.” Dean and y/n pull Sam up. They begin to walk out, supporting Sam, until they hear some glass noise. They turn around to see Mary coming ou of the frame and crawling over the broken glass. Mary walks towards them and they fall to the ground. They all start bleeding from the face, but Dean reaches up and pulls over a mirror so that Mary is forced to see her own reflection. Mary starts choking to death and melts into a pile of blood. Dean throws down the mirror he held and it shatters.
“Hey Sam?” y/n calls him relaxing on the floor.
“Yeah?” he turns his head to look at her.
“This has got to be like… what? 600 years of bad luck?” she asks, looking at the ceiling and Sam chuckles weakly.
They went back to the motel and explained to Charlie she is safe, and Mary's gone. They grabbed all their stuff and Dean and Sam drove Charlie back to her house, with y/n following the car with her Harley. Arriving there Charlie gets out of the car and y/n opens  her helmet visor. “Charlie?” the girl turns around looking at thee hunter “Your boyfriend's death… it really wasn’t your fault. You should try to forgive yourself. No matter what you did, you probably couldn't have stopped it.” Charlie smiles faintly, then turns around to go into the house.
The bike pulls up to the driver's window, that is rolled down. Dean looks at her “That's good advice.”she smiles at him and he turns and lightly hits Sam “Hey SAM?”
“Yeah?”
“Now that this is all over, I want you to tell me what that secret is.” as Dean says it the woman on the bike lowers her head a little to look at the man too.
“Look… you're my brother and my best friend and I'd die for you, but there are some things I need to keep to myself.” Sam looks out the window and the other two look at each other, with concern in their eyes, and then back at the road. Dean drives off and y/n follows.

Dean and y/n are each sleeping in a bed in a motel room the three hunters stopped to rest. The pull-out couch is set as a bed, but is empty. The door opens quietly, but is enough to awaken Dean. Then on the second click, of the door closing, makes y/n open her eyes but she doesn’t move. She was already facing the door and Dean, who who slips his hand under his pillow to grab a weapon. She can see a shadow of a man turning around, holding something. Her eyes meet with Dean’s and he starts to turn around slowly.
“Morning, sunshines” he says when he notices the other two looking at him.
“What time is it?” y/n asks closing her eyes again and placing an arm covering them.
“Uh, it's about five forty-five.” Sam replies.
“In the morning?” Dean asks incredulously while y/n groans and Sam replies with and ‘yup’ sitting on his ‘bed’/pull-out couch. “Where does the day go?” he sits up and stare at Sam “Did you get any sleep last night?”
“Yeah, I grabbed a couple hours.” the younger brother tells him looking at the coffees.
“Liar. 'Cause I was up at three, and you were watching a George Foreman infomercial.” y/n says taking the arm off her eyes and sitting up to.
“Hey, what can I say? It's riveting TV.” he replies cheerfully.
“When was the last time you got a good night's sleep?” Dean asks knitting his eyebrows.
“I don't know, a little while, I guess. It's not a big deal.” he says looking at the older man.
“Yeah, it is.” y/n retorts
“Look, I appreciate your concern…” Sam starts but Dean interrupts.
“Oh, I'm not concerned about you. It's your job to keep our asses alive, so we need you sharp.” he tells Sam, who just shrugs “Seriously, are you still having nightmares about Jess?”
Sam hands a coffee cup to each of the other hunters. “Yeah. But it's not just her. It's everything. I just forgot, you know? This job. Man, it gets to you.” he looks down
“You can't let it.” Dean tells him  “You can't bring it home like that.”
“So, what? All this it… never keeps you up at night?” he asks, y/n lower the cup as she finished a sip and Dean shakes his head. “Never? You're never afraid?” Sam doubts.
“No, not really.” Dean answers.
Y/n reaches under Dean's pillow to pull out a large hunting knife and holds it up as evidence. “Bullshit.”
Dean takes the knife back  “That's not fear. That is precaution.” he explains raising his eyebrows.
“All right, whatever. I'm too tired to argue.” Sam says leaning back on the wall. Dean's phone rings and he answers it.
“Hello?”
“Dean, it's, uh, it's Jerry Panowski. You, your dad and your sister helped me out a couple years back.” Sam and y/n get closer to hear it through the phone call as a man talks.
“Oh, right, yeah. Up in Kittanning, Pennsylvania, the poltergeist thing.” Dean says
“ It's not back, is it?” she asks concerned.
“No. No. Thank god, no. But it's something else, and...uh, I think it could be a lot worse.” he sounds anxious.
“What is it?” Dean asks.
“Can we talk in person?” the three hunters look at each other.
Inside the hangar of the airport. The three follow Jerry, the man from the fone call. “Thanks for making the trip so quick. I ought to be doing you guys a favor, not the other way around.” he says sincerely “These two and your dad really helped me out, you know.” he turns to Sam.
“Yeah, they told me. It was a poltergeist?” Sam asks the man.
“Poltergeist? Man, I loved that movie.” Someone passing them says enthusiastically.
“Hey, nobody's talking to you. Keep walking.” Jerry tells them annoyed “Damn right it was a poltergeist, practically tore our house apart.” he returns to Sam “Tell you something, if it wasn't for you two and your dad, I probably wouldn't be alive.” Jerry looks to y/n and Dean “Your dad said you were off at college. Is that right?” he looks back to Sam.
“Yeah, I was. I'm…taking some time off.” he replies with a small smile.
“Well, he was real proud of you. I could tell. He talked about you all the time.” Jerry says and Sam looks at him with wide eyes while y/n looks down smiling thinking about her father figure.
“He did?” Sam asks looking at the man.
“Yeah, you bet he did. Oh, hey, you know I tried to get a hold of him, but I couldn't. How's he doing, anyway?” The man ask the three hunters.
“He's, um, wrapped up in a job right now.” Dean replies
“Well, we're missing the old man, but we get Sam. Even trade, huh?” Jerry says playfully, making Dean and y/n laugh.
Sam smiles and replies “No, not by a long shot.”
“I got something I want you guys to hear.” Jerry says as they enter an office and Jerry goes behind the desk grabbing a cd player “Normally I wouldn't have access to this. It's the cockpit voice recorder for United Britannia flight 2485. It was one of ours.” he says and presses play.
“Mayday! Mayday! Repeat! This is United Britania 2485… immediate instruction help! United Britanis 2485, I copy your message… May be experiencing some mechanical failure…”  There is a loud whooshing sound.
“Took off from here, crashed about two hundred miles south. Now, they're saying mechanical failure. Cabin depressurized somehow. Nobody knows why. Over a hundred people on board. Only seven got out alive. Pilot was one. His name is Chuck Lambert. He's a good friend of mine. Chuck is, uh… well, he's pretty broken up about it. Like it was his fault.” Jerry explains the whole situation
“You don't think it was?” Sam asks, looking at the man.
“No, I don't.” he replies.
“Jerry, we're gonna need passenger manifests, um, a list of survivors.” y/n counts on her fingers as she starts listing.
“All right.” is all the man says nodding.
“And, uh, any way we can take a look at the wreckage?” Dean questions, hopeful.
“The other stuff is no problem. But the wreckage… fellas, the NTSB has it locked down in an evidence warehouse. No way I've got that kind of clearance.” he answers apologetically.
Dean frowns before reassuring the man “No problem.”
They say goodbyes and leave the office and the airport, going straight to a Copy Jack. Dean goes inside. After a while he exits while y/n is laying on the back seat of the Impala and Sam is leaning on the door outside. They enter the car and Dean hands her Homeland Security badge. She grabs it looking it over “Wow, we’re on another level. This looks pretty good. Nice job.”
“Thanks.” he smiles at her smugly “All right, so, what do you got?”
“Well, there's definitely EVP on the cockpit voice recorder.” Sam starts
“Yeah?” Dean asks when he pauses.
“Listen.” Sam nods hitting play on the tape recorder, which has been edited to pull out a scratchy voice.
No survivors!
“"No survivors"? What's that supposed to mean? There were seven survivors.” Dean interjects.
“Got us.” the woman tells him, sitting up.
“So, what are you thinking? A haunted flight?” he asks looking at her.
“There's a long history of spirits and death omens on planes and ships, like phantom travelers.” Sam tells him and Dean just nods agreeing.
“Or remember flight 401?” y/n asks him about a case from their teenagehood.
“Right. The one that crashed, the airline salvaged some of its parts, put it in other planes, then the spirit of the pilot and copilot haunted those flights.” Dean’s memory comes quickly.
“Right.” Sam agrees “So maybe we got a similar deal.”
“All right, so, survivors, which one do you want to talk to first?” Dean looks between the other two.
“Third on the list: Max Jaffey.” y/n shows him a piece of paper with a list of names.
“Why him?” he looks at her frowning.
“Well, for one, he's from around here. And two, if anyone saw anything weird, he did.” she explains tilting her head.
“What makes you say that?” he asks.
“Well, we spoke to his mother. And she told me where to find him.” she motions to Sam with her head. Dean nods looking at Sam, then back to the road and starts the car. Since Sam’s the one on the front seat now he’s the one guiding Dean till they arrive at a psychiatric hospital.  Dean parks and they head inside.
They enter the building and Sam shows a nurse the fake badge asking to speak to Max. She takes them to the courtyard. When they reach Max they introduce themselves.
They start walking together. “I don't understand. I already spoke with Homeland Security.” Max says looking between them.
“Right. Some new information has come up. So if you could just answer a couple questions…” Y/n starts.
“Just before the plane went down, did you notice anything...unusual?” Sam asks looking at the boy.
“Like what?” he questions confused.
“Strange lights, weird noises, maybe. Voices.” Dean tries to explain to him with some examples.
“No, nothing.” they get to a table.
“Mr. Joffey…” Dean says but max cuts him as they sit down.
“Jaffey.” he corrects, looking at Dean.
“Jaffey. You checked yourself in here, right?” He asks and Max nods. “Can I ask why?” Sam and y/n sit opposite the two.
“I was a little stressed. I survived a plane crash.” he answers.
“Uh huh. And that's what terrified you? That's what you were afraid of?” Dean inquiries him.
“I… I don't want to talk about this anymore.” the boy tries to brush them off.
“See, I think maybe you did see something up there. We need to know what.”  Dean tries pointing at Sam and y/n with his eyes.
“No. No, I was...delusional. Seeing things.” Max looks down.
“He was seeing things.” Dean looks at Sam and y/n.
“It's okay. Then just tell us what you thought you saw, please.” she looks at the boy with understanding eyes.
“There was… this… man. And, uh, he had these… eyes… these, uh… black eyes. And I saw him… or I thought I saw him…” Max tried to explain it but couldn’t form any sentences.
“What?” she asks again
“He opened the emergency exit. But that's...that's impossible, right? I mean, I looked it up. There's something like two tons of pressure on that door.” Max looks deep in her eyes, she smiles and squeezes his arm trying to reassure him..
“Yeah.” Dean looks at both of them and then to her hand on the boy’s arm.
“This man, uh, did he seem to appear and disappear rapidly? It would look something like a mirage?” Sam asks and Max turns to look at him quickly.
“What are you, nuts?” he asks frowning. Sam tilts his head. “He was a passenger. He was sitting right in front of me.”
They all nod. “Okay. Thank you for your time and patience. Sorry for any inconvenience.” y/n says getting up.
“Have a nice day.” Sam tells him and they all leave.
Dean’s driving the impala, they are going to the house of one of the victims, to talk to their wife. “Hmm. Man, I don't care how strong you are.” he stops talking and follow the directions y/n gave him “Even yoked up on PCP or something, no way you can open up an emergency door during a flight.”
“Not if you're human. But maybe this guy George was something else. Some kind of creature, maybe, in human form.” Sam says.
“So here we are. George Phelps, seat 20C.” y/n tells them when they arrive.
“Does that look like a creature's lair to you?” Dean looks over at Sam. Sam turns to look at the perfectly ordinary house.
They go to the front door and ring the bell. A woman answers the door.
Dean, y/n and Sam sit across from Mrs. Phelps. Sam is looking at a framed photograph.
“This is your late husband?” he asks, putting the photograph down.
“Yes, that was my George.” she looks fondly at the portrait.
“And you said he was a...dentist?” Dean asks her.
She nods “He was headed to a convention in Denver. Do you know that he was petrified to fly? For him to go like that…”the woman chokes on a sob.
“How long were you married?” y/n asks the woman.
“Thirteen years.”
“In all that time, did you ever notice anything...strange about him, anything out of the ordinary?” Sam questions the woman.
“Well...uh, he had acid reflux, if that's what you mean.” she looks at Sam, frowning. The hunters look at each other.
After a few more questions and the goodbyes, as they are leaving Sam states “I mean it goes without saying. It just doesn't make any sense.”
“A middle-aged dentist with an ulcer is not exactly evil personified.” Dean replies annoyed.
“You know what we need to do is get inside that NTSB warehouse, check out the wreckage.” y/n says getting to the impala an opening the door.
“Okay. But if we're gonna go that route, we'd better look the part.” Sam guides Dean until they reach the main street and they find a suit rental shop. They go inside and each picks up a suit in their size.
Walking out of the store Dean starts complaining “Man, I look like one of the Blues Brothers.”
Y/n shakes her head, but before she can say anything Sam starts ”No, you don't. You look more like a… seventh-grader at his first dance.”
Dean looks down at himself. “I hate this thing.”
“Nonsense, you look…” she takes a moment to admire him. Looking up and down. “I think you look nice.” She smiles at him “You both do.” she glances at Sam quickly before entering the front seat of the car.
“Hey. You want into that warehouse or not?” Sam asks once he’s already inside the car but Dean’s still on the sidewalk. The older brother goes to his side, starting the impala and heading to the warehouse.
As they enter the warehouse and show their badges to the security guard, who nods and lets them in. They walk among plane wreckage; Dean pulls out a device and puts earbuds in his ears.
“What is that?” Sam asks, looking at the thing in Dean’s hands.
“It's an EMF meter. Reads electromagnetic frequencies.” y/n answers before Dean can raise his head.
“Yeah, I know what an EMF meter is, but why does that one look like a busted-up walkman?” Sam keeps frowning looking at y/n who responded.
“'Cause that's what I made it out of. It's homemade.” Dean grins proudly, turning the device to face Sam.
“Yeah, I can see that.” Sam frowns with a disapproving look on his face. Dean's grin disappears and as he turns to run the EMF meter y/n comes from behind Sam and gives him a smack on the back of his head mouthing a ‘don’t be like that’ to him.
When the device on Dean’s hand goes over a piece of the wreckage with yellow dust on it and gets an audible spike. “Check out the emergency door handle.” he scratches at the yellow dust and gets some on his hand  “What is this stuff?”
“One way to find out.” Sam replies, scraping some of the yellow dust off into a bag.
They start to go back to the front desk, but when they get close to the door they hear the front desk guard  “Homeland Security? What, one team of you guys isn't enough?”
“What are you talking about?” a distinct, confused voice replies. The trio of hunters understand what’s going on and start running in the opposite direction.
They hide and when the guards pass they peer around a corner and walk out casually. An alarm blares, and they run to the gated exit. Pulling off his suit jacket, Dean throws it over the barbed wire at the top of the fence, and they climb over. On the other side Dean stops to grabs the jacket.
“Well, these monkey suits do come in handy.” Dean states quickly, running afterwards. Sam stares at Dean in disbelief for a second and then follows him. Y/n was already running, slower than usual because of the heels she had t put on. And they head back to meet with Jerry in his office.
Once there Sam hands the mand the little bag with the yellow dust. Jerry goes to  look at the yellow stuff through a microscope; what the microscope sees is replicated on a screen.
“Huh. This stuff is covered in sulfur.” The older man says looking back at the three hunters.
“You're sure?” y/n asks.
“Take a look for yourself.” he says motioning to the microscope when a banging sounds from outside the office followed by someone shouting. “If you fellows will excuse me, I have an idiot to fire.”
As Jerry leaves, Dean goes over and looks into the microscope “Hmm. You know, there's not too many things that leave behind a sulfuric residue.” he says looking up again.
“Demonic possession?” Sam tries.
“It would explain how a mortal man would have the strength to open up an emergency hatch.” y/n looks at the screen that is showing the microscopic sulfur.
“If the guy was possessed, it's possible.” Sam looks at her.
“This goes way beyond floating over a bed or barfing pea soup. I mean it's one thing to possess a person, but to use them to take down an entire airplane?” Dean says shocked.
“You ever heard of something like this before?” Sam asks the two older hunters.
“Never.” Dean tells him while y/n shakes her head.
The trio is back at the motel in full research mode, with images and articles taped to the walls and strewn across the beds, and Sam is looking at something on the computer. Dean is reading something y/n is showing him on one bed while sitting on the other.
“So, every religion in every world culture has the concept of demons and demonic possession, right? I mean Christian, Native American, Hindu, you name it.” Sam starts
“Yeah, but none of them describe anything like this.” Dean tells him
“Well, that's not exactly true. You see, according to Japanese beliefs, certain demons are behind certain disasters, both natural and man-made. One causes earthquakes, another causes disease.” he corrects his brother.
“And this one causes plane crashes?” y/n asks getting up and going to Sam
“All right, so, what? We have a demon that's evolved with the times and found a way to ratchet up the body count?” Dean follows y/n.
“Yeah. You know, who knows how many planes it's brought down before this one?” Sam asks and Dean snorts, turning away “What?”
“I don't know, man. This isn't our normal gig. I mean, demons, they don't want anything, just death and destruction for its own sake. This is big. And I wish Dad was here.” he says turning back to the other two and raises his hand letting them fall again.
“Yeah. I know. Me too” y/n looks at him when his phone rings and he answers it.
“Hello?”
Dean, it's Jerry.
“Oh, hey, Jerry.” at this Sam and y/n go closer to him to hear the conversation.
My pilot friend...Chuck Lambert is dead.
“Wha… Jerry, I'm sorry. What happened?”
He and his buddy went up in a small twin about an hour ago. The plane went down.
“Where'd this happen?”
About sixty miles west of here, near Nazareth.
“I'll try to ignore the irony in that.” he looks up and meet the other two eyes.
I'm sorry?
“Nothing. Jerry, hang in there, all right? We'll catch up with you soon.” Dean hangs up. “Alright. Let's go.”
“Where?” Sam and y/n look at him.
“Nazareth.” he simply replies and gathers his stuff.
The hunters are back at Jerry’s office while the older man is again looking through a microscope. Y/n and Sam have their heads together looking at a computer screen and talking quietly while Dean is looking at Jerry.
“Sulfur?” Dean asks and Jerry nods. “Well, that's great. All right, that's two plane crashes involving Chuck Lambert. This demon sounds like it was after him.”
“With all due respect to Chuck, if that's the case, that would be the good news.” Y/n says looking apologetically to Jerry.
“What's the bad news?” Dean frowns.
“Chuck's plane went down exactly forty minutes into flight. And get this, so did flight 2485.” Sam explains looking at Dean.
“Forty minutes? What does that mean?” Jerry questions.
“It's biblical numerology. You know Noah's ark, it rained for forty days. The number means death.” Dean looks over his shoulder to Jerry.
“I went back, and there have been six plane crashes over the last decade that all went down exactly forty minutes in.” Sam tells Dean.
“Any survivors?” Dean inquiries.
“No. Or not until now, at least, not until flight 2485, for some reason. On the cockpit voice recorder, remember what the EVP Said?” Y/n tells Dean.
"No survivors." He recalls. The oldest hunter pauses for a second “It's going after all the survivors. It's trying to finish the job.”
“Read our minds. So I guess now is trying to figure out which of the survivors are planning on flying any time soon.” She says as they start recollecting themselves to leave. They say goodbye to Jerry and head outside. It’s night out. They go to the impala and get in.
Dean starts driving. Sam and y/n are making phone calls to all the survivors.
“Really? Well, thank you for taking our survey, And if you do plan to fly, please don't forget your friends at United Britannia Airlines. Thanks.” Sam hangs up the last phone call they needed to do.
“All right. That takes care of Blaine Sanderson and Dennis Holloway. They're not flying anytime soon.” Y/n looks at him.
“So our only wildcard is the flight attendant Amanda Walker.” Dean states taking a quick glance at the paper in y/n’s lap with the names crossed.
“Right. Her sister Karen said her flight leaves Indianapolis at eight pm. It's her first night back on the job.” Y/n tells him
“That sounds like just our luck.” Dean rolls his eyes.
“Dean, this is a five-hour drive, man, even with you behind the wheel…” Sam starts but Dean interrupts.
“Call Amanda's cellphone again, see if we can't head her off at the pass.”
“I already left her three voice messages. She must have turned her cellphone off.” Sam tells him looking discouraged  “God, we're never gonna make it.”
“We'll make it.” Dean and y/n say at the same time and look at each other.
The three rush into the airport and check the Departure board. “Right there. They're boarding in thirty minutes.” Sam points at the board.
“Okay. We still have some cards to play. We need to find a phone.” Dean says and goes to a courtesy phone when he spots one picking it up.
Airport Services.
“Hi. Gate thirteen.”
Who are you calling, sir?
“I'm trying to contact an Amanda Walker. She's a flight attendant on flight, um...flight 4-2-4.” Dean says after trying to see the board again and y/n whispers the number to him
Please hold
“Come on.” After a clicking noise another voice talks through the phone
This is Amanda Walker.
“Miss Walker. Hi, this is Dr. James Hetfield from St. Francis Memorial Hospital. We have a Karen Walker here.”
Karen?
“Nothing serious, just a minor car accident, but she was injured, so…”
Wa—wait, that's impossible. I just got off the phone with her.
Dean pauses. “You what?”
Five minutes ago. She's at her house, cramming for a final. Who is this?
“Uh, well...there must be some mistake.”
And how would you even know I was here?
Sam  goes around Dean to try to hear what's going on.
Is this one of Vince's friends?
“Guilty as charged.” Y/n gets closer too, the three are basically hugging at this point.
Wow. This is unbelievable.
“He's really sorry.”
Well, you tell him to mind his own business and stay out of my life, okay?
“Yes, but… he really needs to see you tonight, so…”
No, I'm sorry. It's too late.
“Don't be like that. Come on. The guy's a mess. Really. It's pathetic.” Y/n rolls her eyes at Dean but stops when Amanda answers.
Really?
“Oh, yeah.” He smirks at her.
Look, I've got to go. Um… tell him to call me when I land.
Amanda hangs up. “No, no. Wait, Amanda. Amanda!” Dean tries one last time.  “Damn it! So close.”
“All right, it's time for plan B. We're getting on that plane.” Sam turns around and heads to the counters.
“Whoa, whoa, now just hold on a second.” Dean says quickly, wide-eyed.
“Dean, that plane is leaving with over a hundred passengers on board, and if we're right, that plane is gonna crash.” Sam says looking at him.
“I know.” Dean says exasperated.
“Okay. So we're getting on the plane, we need to find that demon and exorcise it. I'll get the tickets. You guys get whatever you can out of the trunk. Whatever that will make it through the security. Meet me back here in five minutes.” Dean just looks at him anxiously.
“Look Dean, me and Sam can go, you can drive to Minneapolis and meet us there, it’s no big deal.” Y/n says, knowing what this is about.
“What? What do you mean? What's wrong?” Sam looks at the woman by his side.
“Well, I kind of have this problem with, uh…” Dean tries but don’t finish the sentence.
“He doesn’t like flying” she tells Sam.
“You're joking, right?” He looks at his older brother.
“Do I look like I'm joking? It just never came up before. Why do you think I drive everywhere, Sam?” He tells Sam looking annoyed and anxious.
“Alright, it’s no big deal.” Y/n takes a step forward and grabs Dean’s b the wrists forcing him to look at her “We’ll go. You meet us there at the arrival, okay?”
But Dean gets even more nervous “What? Are you  nuts? You said it yourself, the plane's gonna crash.”
“I know it’s weird and scary but we can do it together, or me and Sam can do this one by ourselves. I'm not seeing a third option here.” She is worried about her best friend and doesn’t want to force him into anything, but they need to save those people. Innocent people.
“Come on! Really?” he tries looking past her head at Sam, but he just shrugs his shoulders “Man…”
Dean, in the middle seat, is anxiously reading the safety card, with Sam in the aisle and y/n in the window seat looking at his brother.
“Just try to relax.” Sam tells him.
“Just try to shut up.” He answers folding the card again “And quit looking at me, both of you!” The plane takes off and Dean goes to grab the arm rests but grabs y/n hands on one side. He jumps at every rumble and sound making Sam smirk.
When the plane stabilizes Dean leans back, humming to himself. Y/n looks over, he let go of her hand after a while, even though she hadn’t complained. “You're humming Metallica?” She asks incredulously
“Calms me down.” He opens one eye and answers her.
“Look, cherry pie, I get you're nervous, all right? But you got to stay focused.” She tells him. “I mean, we got thirty-two minutes and counting to track this thing down, or whoever it's possessing, anyway, and perform a full-on exorcism.” She whispers the ending
“Yeah, on a crowded plane. That's gonna be easy.” Dean scoffs.
“ Let’s just take it one step at a time, all right? Now, who is it possessing?” Sam looks at both of them for theories.
“It's usually gonna be somebody with some sort of weakness, you know, a chink in the armor that the demon can worm through. Somebody with an addiction or some sort of emotional distress.” Dean remembers what he already read about the subject.
“Well, this is Amanda's first flight after the crash. If I were her, I'd be pretty messed up.” Sam says tilting his head a little.
When a flight attendant pass past them Sam stops her “Excuse me. Are you Amanda?”
“No, I'm not.” The woman smiles
“Oh, my mistake.” He excuses himself and she nods leaving.
Dean looks to the back of the plane to Amanda. “All right, well, that's got to be Amanda back there, so I'll go talk to her, and, uh, I'll get a read on her mental state.”
“What if she's already possessed?” Y/n questions him
“There's ways to test that.” He gives her a small smile and goes into his bag and comes out with a Virgin Mary-shaped bottle of water. “I brought holy water.”
“No.”  Sam snatches the bottle and tucks it inside his hoodie. “I think we can go more subtle. If she's possessed, she'll flinch at the name of God.”
“Oh. Nice.” He tells Sam and gets up passing Sam.
“Hey.” Y/n calls him
“What?”
“Say it in Latin.” She remembers him
“I know.” He tells her and turns around.
“Hey!” It’s Sam that calls him this time
“What?!” He comes back annoyed
“Uh, in Latin, it's "Christo".”
“Dude, I know! I'm not an idiot!” He makes his way to the back of the plane. When the plane shakes abruptly, he thumps a seat. Y/n grabs John’s journal from her bag and hands it to Sam, who start flipping through.
“Can I ask you a question?” Sam looks at y/n after a while reading.
“What sort of question is that? Of course you can.” She chuckles at him.
“How come you knew Dean was scared of flying?” He frowns a little.
She lets a small sigh escape “We’ll, I came along when you were five, Dean was nine. He was already taking care of you for so long. I think at some point he started to protect you the way a parent protects a child. Which is more than understandable and what was necessary at the time. But doing that, kind of made him hide some parts of himself, to be brave for you and to make your life…” she tries to find the word “I don’t know, less difficult!?” She chuckles lightly looking at her hands “Anyway, when John brought me to the motel he told Dean you guys needed to protect me, but I didn’t want that… burden on anyone else, I guess. So I did everything in my power to be on the same ‘level’ Dean was. Helping him with the same chores and proving that I could take care of the same things he did.”
She looks back at Sam “And it worked. We were confidants to each other. I would tell him everything that was going through my mind and vice versa. And these weird fears would just come up in the conversation every now and then, I guess.”
“Wow. I never thought about that.” Sam answers after a couple of seconds.
But before she could reply Dean came back and sat back down. “All right, well, she's got to be the most well-adjusted person on the planet.” He says raising his eyebrows.
“You said ‘Christo’?” Y/n asks.
“Yeah.”
“And?” Sam questions this time.
“There's no demon in her. There's no demon getting in her.”
“So, if it's on the plane, it can be anyone. Anywhere.” Sam leans back on his seat.
The plane shakes, again. “Come on! That can't be normal!” Dean complains loudly.
“Hey, hey, it's just a little turbulence.” The woman says holding his arm.
“Chip, this plane is going to crash, okay? So quit treating me like I'm friggin' four.” He knits his eyebrows at her whispering at her.
“You need to calm down.” She replies looking at Sam, looking for back up.
“Well, I'm sorry I can't.” He contorts
“Yes, you can.” Sam tries helping
“Dude, stow the touchy-feely, self-help yoga crap, it's not helping.” He’s getting more and more anxious.
“Alright listen, if you're panicked, you're wide open to demonic possession, so you need to calm yourself down. Right now.” She holds his face between her palms forcing his eyes on hers and talking more sternly. He takes a long, slow breath.
“Okay. Now, I found an exorcism in here that I think is gonna work. The Rituale Romanum.” Sam gives him the journal already opened on the page.
“What do we have to do?” He asks after a quick glance.
“It's two parts. The first part expels the demon from the victim's body. It makes it manifest, which actually makes it more powerful.” He starts explaining.
“More powerful?” Y/n raises her eyebrows worried.
“Yeah.”
“And why is that a good thing?” Dean asks him
“Well, because the second part sends the bastard back to hell once and for all.” Sam points at the page on Dean’s lap.
“First things first, we got to find it.” Y/n says looking at the brothers.
Dean walks slowly up the aisle with his EMF meter, getting odd looks but no readings. Y/n suddenly claps him on the shoulder, and he jumps.
“Ah! Don't do that.” He tells her and she smiles a little.
“Anything?”
“No, nothing. How much time we got?” He asks taking one earphone out.
“Fifteen minutes. Maybe we missed somebody.” Sam appears behind her.
“Maybe the thing's just not on the plane.” Dean raises his eyebrows.
“You believe that?” She asks him.
“Well, I will if you will.” He tries to pretend to be done with the whole thing. Dean looks down as the EMF meter spikes. The copilot exits the bathroom and heads towards the cockpit.
“What? What is it?” Sam asks over y/n’s shoulder.
Dean whispers “Christo.” The copilot turns slowly to face them, his eyes are black, and then heads into the cockpit. They all look at each other.
The trio heads to the back of the plane towards Amanda.
“She's not gonna believe this.” Y/n says
“Twelve minutes, dude.” Sam tells her.
“Oh, hi. Flight's not too bumpy for you, I hope.” Amanda smiles looking at Dean.
“Actually, that's kind of what we need to talk to you about.” She frowns at him. Sam closes the curtain.
“Um, okay. What can I do for you?” She sounds suspicious.
“All right, this is gonna sound nuts, but we just don't have time for the whole ‘the truth is out there’ speech right now.” Dean starts “We know you were on flight 2485.” Her smile disappears.
“Who are you guys?” She asks.
“Now, we've spoken to some of the other survivors. We know something brought down that plane and it wasn't a mechanical failure.” Sam tells her trying to sound as honest as possible.
“We need your help because we need to stop it from happening again. Here. Now.” Y/n raises her eyebrows at her.
“I'm sorry, I… I'm very busy. I have to go back…” she tries to brush past Dean and y/n, but they stop her.
“Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. Wait a second. I'm not gonna hurt you, okay? But listen to me, uh… The pilot in 2485, Chuck Lambert. He's dead.” Dean tells her.
“Wait. What? What, Chuck is dead?”
“He died in a plane crash. Now, that's two plane crashes in two months. That doesn't strike you as strange?” Y/n continues Dean’s trail of thought
“Look, there was something wrong with 2485. Now maybe you sensed it, maybe you didn't. But there's something wrong with this flight, too.” Dean keeps going.
“Amanda, you have to believe us.” Sam begs
“On… on 2485, there was this man. He… had these eyes.” She tries to put it into words.
“Yes. That's exactly what we're talking about.” Y/n exclaims relieved
“I don't understand, what are you asking me to do?” She looks between all the three hunters.
“Okay. The copilot, we need you to bring him back here.” Dean tells her.
“Why? What does he have to do with anything?” She looks exasperated.
“Don't have time to explain. We just need to talk to him. Okay?” Dean tries again:
“How am I supposed to go in the cockpit and get the copilot…”
“Do whatever it takes. Tell him there's something broken back here, whatever will get him out of that cockpit.” Sam interrupts her.
“Do you know that I could lose my job if you…” she tries again but y/n cuts her off this time.
“Okay, well you're gonna lose a lot more if you don't help us out.”
The flight attendant  hesitates. “Okay.” She leaves and goes to the cockpit. Knocking on the door and saying something inaudible to the copilot, who follows her back. Sam pulls out the holy water and the journal handing the latter to y/n, who opens it.
“Yeah, what's the problem?” The copilot asks as soon as he passes the curtain and Dean punches him in the face, knocking him down. He pins him down and puts duct tape over his mouth.
“Wait. What are you doing? You said you were just gonna talk to him.” The flight attendant asks panicked.
“We are gonna talk to him.” Dean says as Sam splashes holy water on his skin, which sizzles.
“Oh, my god. What's wrong with him?” Amanda starts to freak out.
“Look. We need you calm. We need you outside the curtain.” Y/n tells her while the other two try to contain the copilot.
“Well, I don't underst… I don't know…” she tries but can’t organize a sentence.
“Don't let anybody in, okay? Can you do that? Can you do that? Amanda?” She asks and Amanda nods leaving.
“Hurry up, y/n. I don't know how much longer I can hold him.” Dean speaks quickly
“Regna terrae, cantate Deo, psallite Domino…” she starts reading the exorcism.
The demon breaks free briefly and hits them both until Dean manages to subdue him again. Y/n keeps going. The demon knocks Dean off again and pulls the tape off his mouth. He grabs Sam by the collar and he hits the Journal, making it fly through the air.
“I know what happened to your girlfriend! She must have died screaming! Even now, she's burning!” He tells looking Adam in the eye.
Dean recovers and hits the demon as y/n recovers the journal and tries to find the page and Sam sits there, stunned.
“Sam!” Dean calls him. Sam recovers and begins restraining again.
“I got him.” Sam says and the demon exits the copilot’s body and disappears into a vent.
“Where did it go?” Y/n looks up and asks.
“It's in the plane. Hurry up. We got to finish it.” Dean yells. The plane suddenly dips and heaves violently. Y/n struggles to retrieve the book  that fell again as Dean splays himself against the exit door, screaming, Sam holds himself down. She manages to grab the book and reads the rest of the exorcism. A bright electrical charge runs through the entire plane, which then levels out. Dean comes out from behind the curtain with Sam and y/n.
The passengers from the flight are disembarking to an area milling with uniformed agents (PARAMEDIC, FBI, FAA, etc). The copilot is seated in a wheelchair with a blanket wrapped around him, being questioned by an FAA agent and Amnda is being questioned by another agent when she spots the hunters mouthing a’ thank you’ at them. They nod smiling.
“Let's get out of here.” Dean says and they head for the exit.
“You two okay?” Y/n asks them. Dean nods but Sam stops and turns.
“Dean, it knew about Jessica.” He says.
“Sam, these things, they, they read minds. They lie. All right? That's all it was.” Dean tries to calm his brother.
“Yeah.”
“Come on.” Dean calls them.
When they encounter Jerry again he’s shaking their hands “Nobody knows what you guys did, but I do. A lot of people could have been killed.” He smiles “Your dad's gonna be real proud.”
“We'll see you around, Jerry.” Y/n tells the man and they head out, but Dean stops and turn around.
“You know, Jerry.” He looks at the man “I meant to ask you, how did you get my cellphone number, anyway? I've only had it for like six months.”
“Your dad gave it to me.” Jerry explains and the three jaws facing him drop.
“What?” Sam inquires
“When did you talk to him?” Dean’s turn.
“I mean, I didn't exactly talk to him, but I called his number. His voice message said to give you a call. Thanks again, guys.” He explains himself and leaves.
“This doesn't make any sense, man. I've called Dad's number like fifty times. It's been out of service.” Sam tells the other two Dean dials a number. As the voice message begins, he turns it so they can hear too.
This is John Winchester. I can't be reached. If this is an emergency, call my son, Dean. 785-555-0179. He can help.
Sam fumes and gets in the car. Dean and y/n follow, wondering.
