Their hand was trembling as it hovered over the button, their tears spilling rapidly down their cheeks as they pondered whether or not they should follow through. Undyne was really going to kill them and part of them wanted to let her do it, wanted to allow her to take their soul so the monsters could live happy lives on the surface. Shaking their head, they lifted their hand above their head. They couldn’t give up. 

“ I’m sorry, Undyne. . .   There has to be a   way I can do this   without resulting in   my death. . .”

* You slam your hand on the reset button and everything goes dark.

   ‘ Frisk, you understand what that means, r i g h t ? ’

          Undyne raised her hand and a spear formed itself. Red           eyes were cast over with a shadow. She was going to do           it; she would free everyone. She’d kill Frisk and take their           soul, then free EVERYONE. Undyne the Undying would be           their H E R O. To her eyes, in her timeline, there was no           reset box, there was no resetting everything. If she did not           do anything, they would be stuck down here for eternity.

   ‘ I don’t want to do this,          but it is for the monsters, for everyone. ’

There was a long pause as the small child just stared up at the other, their head tilted to the side before they responded.

This monster surly was curious, Frisk concluded. The way the other kept getting closer and closer to them gave that away. The small human didn’t mind. They happened to like close contact. They were an affectionate human. When the other returned the compliment, they could feel their cheeks heating up a little. A small giggle left their lips, their hands linking together behind their back.

“ Thank you ! Oh, I’m   going to see King   Asgore so I can try   and find a way home. ”

   She got closer to her, head leaning even further closer her shoulder as a smile graced her thin lips. To the core she said, that some big resolution to take. However, her next words turned ruby eyes into constellations. If she could blush, her cheeks would be happening right now.

     ‘ To the core, you say ? What to ? Oh~, thank you little one, You are really pretty too. ‘

“ But. . . ”

Their voice was barely audible. Small hands coiled into fists, taking the purple fabric of their shirt with them. It wasn’t that they wanted to be alone, it was just that they didn’t understand why Ruby wanted to stay with them. They loved their family, but whenever they got sad like this, all they ever did was give them space. The monsters thought that they wanted to be alone, they guessed.

“ Ruby, you really don’t   have to. I’ll be alright. ”

   ‘ it’s okay frisk, i understand.        i want to stay here though, by your side. ’

          Ruby had been alone when she first fell into the           Underground; lost, scared, anxious. Frisk had been           the one to show her the way; they had taken care of           Ruby, and she had become fond of them. There were           days where she’d wish she could go back, but then           she’d recall what it would cost, what she would lose.

   ‘ we don’t need to talk. ’
