a/n: I've never drowned, thank god, so I don't know if the description I wrote is right, sorry, I guess?

context: the first moments are memories, however the chapter ends in the present. The memories are not necessarily in chronological order, but I think you can imagine that they are if it's easier!

SHINICHIRO looked lovingly at you sitting on the floor with Manjiro and Emma, them handing you some toys and you joining in their games.

- Shin, Emma is calling you. – you said, looking back at him and only then did he come out of the trance he was in.

- Ah. – he blinked several times as he came back to reality. – What is it, Emma? – Shinichiro looked at Emma with a nervous smile.

- Hmm. – Emma looked at him with confusion, then her face lit up, as if she had discovered the biggest secret of the year, and she gave a bright, open smile.

– You're getting married!

You looked at each other before your cheeks turned slightly pink and, suddenly, an urge to laugh set in and you and Shinichiro couldn't stop laughing.

- No! – he shouts, clinging to you as if his life depended on it. – You're going to marry me, aren't you, [Name]?? – he blinks innocently, looking at you with a pout.

- Of course. – you laugh, giving him a kiss on his chubby cheek, tickling his sides. Manjiro laughs out loud and Shinichiro finds himself entering another trance looking at his brother with his beloved girlfriend.

1997 WAS closer than ever and the Shibuya New Year's festival was packed. Shinichiro doesn't think he's ever spent a better day with his friends and girlfriend before.

Not that he exactly had the courage to invite you to go out with him and his intimidating friends, even after you'd been dating for 5 months. Well, actually, Wakasa, Takeomi and Benkei had to literally push him towards you.

But the important thing is that you accepted! And you'll never forget the look on his face when you said "yes". Quite similar to the one he made when you said "yes" to his other proposal.

Meanwhile, Shinichiro repeatedly tried to hit the balloons on the stand of a lady who was smilingly looking at you.

- What the hell?? - Shinichiro almost shouted, as he buried his face in his hands. His friends laughed, followed by you and the lady who laughed lightly.

- Man, this is not normal. You managed to miss them all. EVERY SINGLE ONE. It was the third time, give up, bro. – Takeomi punches him lightly on the shoulder.

- Excuse me, ma'am, may I? – you put the yens on the stand and the woman hands you the darts that Shinichiro used earlier (they were all on the floor).

You take the darts and hit the balloons easily, then look at your boyfriend, who is open-mouthed and blinking repeatedly. In a few seconds, Takeomi, Wakasa and Benkei burst out laughing as if they had been holding it in for ages.

You smile and ask the lady for the big panda plush, who happily hands it to you.

- Here, panda. – you hold the panda out for Shinichiro to take. – For you.

Shinichiro almost got down on one knee and asked you to marry him right there, but, of course, Wakasa ruined the moment for him.

- You're like the girl in the relationship. Are you going to be the bride at the wedding too?

ANOTHER year for Shinichiro, now that he's 19. It was strange to think that you've been dating since you were 16, even though it started out as one of those relationships that seemed more like friendship.

After taking Manjiro and Emma back home from his birthday party, with the help of his grandfather's car, only him, his closest friends and you, of course, were left there.

But after a few hours, you and him were the only ones there and probably of the entire city on the street. It wasn't too cold surprisingly, just a little windy, but nothing that made you or him cold, even though you were wearing a skirt.

So, in the moonlight, you and Shinichiro decided to dance a little to some imaginary music.

Oh, how he wishes this would never end. None of this, especially you.

He has one of his hands down on your thigh to stop your skirt from flying up and showing anything, even though there's no one else around and you're wearing dark tights, but he tells himself that he has no other intentions. His other hand holds yours in the air as if he knew exactly what he was doing, balancing you gently.

Shinichiro doesn't think there's ever been anyone prettier than you.

ALTHOUGH Shinichiro is a very respected man, that doesn't stop him from taking beatings. Many don't dare because they know he's the incredible leader of the Black Dragons, but he's being so weak in hand-to-hand combat also makes his enemies think they can just go against him and not expect anything in return.

In the end, they all end up in the hands of Wakasa, Benkei or Takeomi, maybe even all three.

However, that doesn't make Shinichiro's injuries disappear, and then, who would take care of him? You, of course.

It didn't happen much, but you couldn't say that there were few times when you sat with him in the bathroom and cleaned his blood or took care of his wounds with the help of a first aid kit that you were almost forced to buy because of him.

No matter how hurt he was, Shinichiro loved all these moments with a passion.

- 'Chiro, lift your head, I need to clean your lip. - You were tempted to pull his hair lightly, just because he was stubborn and didn't want to take his head off your belly.

- Nooo.. - He murmurs, his voice muffled by having his mouth pressed against your stomach.

So you decide to pull his hair, obviously not hard enough to hurt him, just so he would lift his head.

- Ouch, you're so mean! - Shinichiro whimpers but gives up, just resting his hands a little above the back of your knees while you gently clean his wounds.

- AAAHHH – Shinichiro shouted when Wakasa decided it would be a good idea to buy a clown mask and scare him at night in his store.

And he, by reflex, jumps forward, grabs your arm and hides behind you.

- Well, if it was a murderer at least I would be the first. – you mock while laughing with Wakasa.

- What a gentleman. – Wakasa takes off the mask without ever stopping laughing.

- Why do you hate me? – Shinichiro says dramatically.

1999 WAS a good year, Shinichiro, like you, has 21 years old now. But that year was marked mainly by all the fun the group had.

However, for you and Shinichiro, the year was marked by a specific party. One in which you and he got very drunk, very, every drunk indeed.

And that resulted in matching little tattoos between your collarbone and shoulder.

Shinichiro got a small black betta fish tattooed and you got a white one, although it was a stupid and not very sober decision, Shinichiro wouldn't change it for anything.

COMFORT is something very common in Shinichiro's life, but he's usually the one giving it, especially with two little siblings.

So when Shinichiro laid his head on your lap while you were sitting on the couch watching a random serie. Your hands absentmindedly playing with his hair, twirling and untwisting it, braiding it lightly, gently scratching his head with your fingers, he feels so in peace.

Shinichiro swears he never felt so good as in moments like this, it feels so homely and comfortable.

He doesn't want this to end. Ever.

In fact, maybe he wants to stay like this forever, with you. Shinichiro wants to be with you forever.

The sea shone blue, despite the slightly cloudy weather outside.

Until your cell phone rang. You stuffed the rest of the candy into your mouth, quickly picking up your cell phone and reading the message that popped up on your screen.

SHINICHIRO looked at his reflection in the sea. He could hear Haruchiyo screaming in the background, but his mind didn't exactly register what he was saying.

He thought about everything, his life, his friends, his family, his past and... you.

His mind traveled to the man he killed, maybe he could really go back in time? Shinichiro doesn't know, but he was desperate.

He then thought about you. Would you understand? You could live without him, of course, and that's exactly what he wants.

Shinichiro thought about when you first met, your first date, your proposal, when you met his family - still with Manjiro healthy -, all the times you comforted him, all the times you helped him with his siblings.

And for a moment, he almost gave up.

He saw your smiling face right in front of him. But Shinichiro closed his eyes and then threw himself into the sea, hearing only Haruchiyo's desperate screams muffled by the water.

You don't need him.

As Shinichiro lets the water get inside him, the feeling of drowning terrifies him, but he doesn't care. His body almost begs him to come back to the surface, but he forces himself to go deeper, even though he can't breathe.

For his comfort, he managed to think about all the moments he spent with Manjiro and you. Together, laughing. Something he knows that could no longer happen. And in his last moments before losing consciousness, a small hope grows in his chest, although it seems unreal.
