Welcome Back, Today's track is conveniently a love duet by DJDS featuring artists Khalid and Empress Of. I Like this track, its simple, but holds a powerful message. It paints a story perfectly for the listener to imagine two lovers passionately devoted to each other. It's almost like this was planned for Valentines Day. ;) If by chance you are with your significant other this evening. Try playing this track. Its smooth and upbeat and easy to groove to in your candlelit living-room :) My favorite line in this track is the first line the listener hears. First and foremost I apologize for my small absence the past few weeks. All systems are go and we are back to submitting weekly tracks until further notice! This week's track is one of my favorite pump up songs. "Feels Great" Featuring Fetty Wap & CVBC really gives off nothing but positive vibrations and smiles for me as I reminisce on what it means to enjoy every moment.  This song is about capturing appreciation for every moment we live through.  There is this old Cliche that goes:  "You never know when you are making a memory" The essence of this song captures this phenomenon perfectly. Paired with the music video of just random fun, good times, and smiles you really feel the happiness trickling off of the verses and echoing off of each chorus. Welcome Back! Approaching the Holiday Season at breakneck speed here in the states has everyone rushed, stressing, and "adulting" something severely. I honestly can not think of a single track more important to be showcased this week than Walk The Moon's "Anna Sun". This was Walk The Moon's big hit on their debut self-titled album. To this day, I still get chills, my feet almost involuntarily start dancing around, all while my shoulders start swaying. It's upbeat, creative, timeless, everything in one, and if that wasn't enough - its message acts as the excessive whipped topping you spread over your chocolate chip pancakes.  I Freakin' Love This Song The message behind the song really captures the critical time in our lives where we feel it is necessary to transition from adults who act like kids - to adults who act like adults. For many, like Walk The Moon, this time comes shortly after college.  The common question is "Why grow up so fast?"  My response to this is "Why grow up at all?" My goal is to not spark a social movement where adults start wearing depends 40 years earlier than necessary. It is for individuals, regardless of age, to have fun and enjoy all aspects of life. There is no upper age limitation on the fun enjoyed by a good Nerf Gun, Super-Soaker, or face paint. Do it. You'll be happier if you do. Life is a much more joyous roller coaster of a time if you enjoy it with a light heart, a smiling face, and a pair of dancing shoes. To all my past, upcoming, and future collegiate graduates. This week's track is by one of my all-time favorite artists - Bruno Mars. Guys, I can't tell you how badly I've needed this track this week. I just came back from a mini vacation in the city of Los Angeles. The seventy degree weather and sunny skies almost tricked me into thinking it was May back here in the Midwest.  Unfortunately for my girlfriend and I, as the plane's wheels touched down at MSP we were reminded of where we actually live in the world! No worries, I made enough hot chocolate  for everyone to pass around.  It was hard for me not to think of this song as I had to readjust back to my daily schedule. I kept on humming its melody like some kind of witches spell that would shoot me through a wormhole into my PJs and wrapped up on my couch watching the Simpsons.  Sometimes its okay to take a day off and do what you want to do, whether that's nothing at all, or something you've just not prioritized recently. This song is light and psydeoserious and the music video is in absolutely perfect harmony with that idea. @brunomars decided one day that he was just going to take a day off from his normal stressful routine and work on himself. Sometimes life throws sand in your eyes, shoves you to the ground, and puts the whole weight of the world on top of you. In these moments you have a choice. You can stay down and let life zoom past you, or, you can lick your wounds and regain your balance by striding one foot in front of the other towards the goal line.  This week's track is "Walk" by the Foo Fighters. It tells an optimistic story of a character that has come to a life altering epiphany. They've come a long way in their endeavor - been beat up, thrown around, and tossed in life's industrial sized dryer for as long as they can remember. Instead of feeling defeated, they take back their life.  "Learning to walk again, I believe I've waited long enough" They take back their life, their choice at living it, and know what they want. They've overcome so much this far along in life, they decide the only direction is forward. A fresh start among many, but this time, a positive one. You can tell that this becomes the driving force behind the song as it explodes into the bridge where Dave Grohl chants "I never wanna die".  The Foo Fighters stood behind this song and told a tremendous story of reflection into their own lives and the progression in mindset and resiliency it has taken to become who they are today. This song reminds me to get back on my feet and keep moving forward towards my goals and direction in life when I feel defeated. The last thing you want is to become a stranger to yourself - the Foo Fighters help me defeat that and any kind of self doubt I have within. I know they will for you too. I must admit, It is getting increasingly hard to select tracks for this playlist. I am constantly absorbing the music around me and have found one major conundrum. There is just too much music that gets me excited and would fit perfectly in the sizzle bacon list. I find myself counting down the days to share day every week! As this project moves forward, my focus will be on diversifying the list. I am genuinely excited about the future artists lined up to add their part in this road trip of endorphins, good vibes, and spectacular music. This week I decided to add a track with two artists that really know how to persevere, push back against the status quo, and succeed in getting back up on their feet when they feel knocked down. Good Old Days by Mackelmore Featuring Kesha has all the qualities that I get on my soap box about every week. The song captures the idea of living in the current moment. It tells a story of how we are all too excited for the future that we forget about the present. Mackelmore raps a narrative of how when he was underground he couldn't wait to get older and to become something greater and a better version of himself. Naive, Mackelmore tells us that those were the good days, and he wishes he could go back and cherish it more than he did.  Mackelmore is acting as the older brother to us all, reminding us that it is more than okay to dream - but you shouldn't get so caught up in your path to your dreams and looking up that you forget to look around you and appreciate your current moment.  Kesha is an ideal feature for this track, she is a phenomenal artist that is just getting back into recording music with Sony after winning a long and taxing battle with a toxic abuser within her recording label. Boy, did we miss her. Both Mackelmore and Kesha are two individuals who not only talk the talk, but strut the strut of the message behind this song. Appreciating life every day. These are two well rounded, pure, and passionate artists that have the potential to carry mainstream music to its next tier of enjoyment. Another week is in the highlight reel as we drive on into whatever journey lay in front of us. This band is one of my all-time favorites because of their willingness and ability to stand in the face of oppression and authority and politely raise their middle fingers. Formed in 1982, Chumbawamba has undergone numerous stylistic changes, drawing an audience from various listeners and groups. One thing remained consistent for this British band, and that was their moral compass. They were very open supporters of overcoming class struggle, supporting feminism, and gay liberation. "Tubthumping" is by far their most well known hit and was even nominated for Best British Single.  Political ideologies aside, this song has a great message, its simple, in your face, and drilled into your mind with a catchy melody.  "If you kick me down, i'll get back up again." Resiliency is what drives us when we believe we are alone in the world. When you look around you and see very few, if anyone, on your side.... what do you dig deep within yourself to push forward towards your goals? Its become nearly a daily routine where I will read inspirational quotes, podcasts, or videos. One earlier this week was recorded coming from Ralph Waldo Emerson. It goes: "Our greatest glory is not in perfection, but in how we rise up when we fail." When I heard this song recently and decided it would be another amazing addition to this motivating and upbeat playlist, this quote came to my mind. On that note, when you fail this week, Rise up. You are defined by how you act in a time of crisis, be strong, be resilient.  From the ashes, a beautiful phoenix will be born born. Life is the single most daunting task we will ever go about doing. It's easy to fall into pessimistic cliches and believe in the snowball effect or the saying that when it rains it pours. The realistic fact of life is sometimes waking up just isn't easy. It has this crazy way of knocking you down, and when you're most vulnerable, kicking you harder. I would be lying if I told you there was a sure-fire bomb-proof way to combat this internal dilemma boiling over from time to time within everyone. There just isn't some magical potion you can drink from the mountains of Tibet that melt all the worries of the world away. There is however, something you can do to remain calm during stressful times, overcome every single one of your fears, and surpass even unimaginable goals To reach your full potential, wake up everyday and tell yourself today will be a good day.  If it plays out and it is not, do not back down, keep your head up, and your shoulders back, YOU completely control your destiny. How you respond to the world is how it will respond to you. Make your bed, brush your teeth, take a shower, maybe drink some coffee and grab a muffin, it doesn't matter. Your daily routine is not as important as your daily outlook. In times of turmoil, and believe me, there will be some, Andy Grammer tells us to "Keep Your Head Up". No matter your background, identity, profession, your life will never be served to you on a silver platter. Part of what makes life so awe inspiring is the powerful and dynamic relationships you will develop with people in your life overcoming the hardships of just existing together. Be a glass half full kind of person, Someone who eats dessert first, and loves like every day is your last one on earth. Andy Grammer says in difficult times to keep pushing forward toward your goals, and frankly, I think he's preaching to the choir. Cook up that full package of bacon, drop those chocolate chips into the pancake batter, and enjoy every day for the rest of your life.
