For politics geeks! Vintage election simulation board game: "The Next President" from 1972. Very realistic, but probably does not allow you to break into the Watergate Hotel.

Too cool: a vintage 1970s bowling trophy engraved with “Bowling Championship, Hosted by Security Division, Third Place, April 22, 1978″ in Japanese. The decayed ribbon is an extra poetic touch.

Hey, I just noticed that I am getting close to 1,000 sales in the modernpoetry shop—only 12 away! So, I thought I’d celebrate with a gift to the lovely person who puts me over the top:
If you buy the 1,000th item, I’ll give you a $50 credit to use on anything in the modernpoetry shop . Take $50 off one item, or combine several smaller ones, or give your credit away as a gift—I’ll even make you a nice gift card if you want!
You can use your credit a little bit at a time, too—buy a little something now, and then save the rest to see what else I might add to the shop in the future. There are new things all the time!
It’s hard to say when the 1,000th sale will happen. It could be months from now if sales are slow, or you could go buy a dozen things right this minute and one of them would be the 1,000th, so you’d get that $50 for sure! I’m going to start adding a bunch of super-cool things to tempt you.
But wait, there’s more! If you share this news with your family and friends, and one of them gets the $50, I will give YOU a $50 credit, too. I will ask the winner if someone told them about the promotion, and how (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, email, actual spoken communication, etc.), and ask them how to contact you.
I can only give a referral credit to one person, so if this spreads like wildfire, the credit goes to the person who directly referred the winner, not the whole chain. And no fair referring yourself—you gotta spread the love to get some back!
Thanks to everyone for your support and enthusiasm for the past few years—you make this so fun. Now, start shopping and sharing and see if you can score $50 to spend at modernpoetry!

You think we have a crazy election season this year... this poor guy was only nominated as a compromise candidate on the 103rd ballot! He lost big to Calvin Coolidge in the general election, but I probably would have voted for him. His denunciation of the Ku Klux Klan and his prior defense of black voting rights are what cost him. If you're looking for an alternative button to wear during the election season, here you go! Find this 1972 gas station giveaway button at modernpoetry!

This vintage Hubert the Harris Lion ceramic coin bank is a nostalgic friend for Chicagoland folks! Made by Lefton in Japan, probably in the 1960s or 1970s, the figural money box depicts one of Chicago's most recognized and beloved icons, and was originally given away as an advertising premium.

This vintage ink stone box is beautiful to display and useful to grind ink sticks for Chinese calligraphy or Japanese sumi-e ink brush painting. It’s made of smooth slate, and the lid has a hand-carved koi fish leaping into a rippling pond. Gorgeous.
