WHAT'S IN THE BOX?! This creative exercise helps me generate weird ideas, iterate on drawings & designs, and overcome art block and writer's block. (I've also used it a lot in my career as an art director)
Have you used this method before? If you try it out, let me know how it goes!
I LOVE using Mind Maps to come up with ideas. It's a way to let your brain vomit all it's creativity on a page without overthinking everything.
Practice letting your Creative Brain wander and play. You can always go back an let your Logic Brain make sense of it later. It's been a lifesaver for my personal and work projects.
The more you practice, the easier this gets. I'd love to see what you come up with!
Meet Dusty, they're a Pixie Cup Lichen that communes with the divine through their symbiotic relationship with their algae. They're a lil' derpy but a wise and true friend.
Meet Groucho - My firbolg druid based off of Oscar the Grouch. (PS I ended up switching him to Circle of Spores when I found out we did, in fact, have a cleric on the team and I wouldn’t have to be the main healer lol)
Ball Pit Elemental! An OC D&D creature based off of childhood memories. You might not think they're lawful, since they thrive in places of pure excitement and play.
But a Ball Pit has unspoken rules. Their code keeps their friends safe and protects the sanctity of the ball pit experience. Don't cross a Ball Pit Elemental...
I first saw a Pillow Golem after a sleepover. When all the pillows and blankets were left on the floor, something started to form...a giant sentient pillow. We named him Stuffy.
(PS - Inspired by a memory where I covered myself in a blanket and "ate" all the pillows. That's right, I AM THE FIRST PILLOW GOLEM)
Shug & Cinn are sweet and powerful fae that eased me into wakefulness as a child. They bridged the dream realm with the material realm, and I was often met with the reward of powdered sugar donuts and cinnamon rolls. I never met someone who crossed them...and I'm sure there's a good reason why.
Vivi is a color elemental, and just one facet of the Pink color family (or maybe it's the Red family? They're a bit chaotic for rigid family systems).
Color elementals shapeshift, and are rarely seen in the same form twice. Even their names will change depending on who's looking at them.
Our perceptions of them change with our emotions, mental state, and even our previous associations with their color. But it's unclear how much we affect them vs how they affect us.
