Something I’ve spent a few days working on while my consciousness was on time out.
I’ve been feeling like somethings been off with me for aaaages , but I can’t put my finger on it. I always find my mind drifting back to Wicca and wiccans , imma take it as a sign . So that I’m not going into this with a uncultured headspace I’ve ordered some FAB books to do with the philosophy/history behind it and other fun bits .
I actually canny wait to see what’s poppin off with it all , fingers crossed xo

Week 7
So I finally managed to finish one of my hoops and I’m soooooo happy with how it turned out . I made some slight adjustments to the design but I feel as though I this works out better . A lot of my peers have commented on how they don’t notice my lettering being a little bit off so that’s pretty cool and making me feel less stressed.
I’m moving onto the second part of the folktale now , “the 1st of May is pinch bum day” , now my hands are getting used it I’ve been whizzing through the lettering ( which I think is the longest bit to sort out ) so with my progress I should be onto my tote bag design midweek or come the weekend and then hopefully begin my big boy on!!!
I’ve been stressing out a bit it a little but only because i find it so ambitious of myself lol , I stepped out my comfort zone and I’m doing it . But tbh I’m making amazing progress , with how things are looking, I predict it’s going to take me about 3 weeks to do.
My plan is to do it in layers, so first starting off with the background, the foreground characters. I know I’ve gotta really focus on it but I fee, as if when I start it I’ll be in more of a mood to finish it because I’m excited

Week 500 of the same day
Sooooo yeah it’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted but I’m not gonna be mad at myself about that ,you know how mental health be be n down . You have good days and bad but I’m starting to get back on the path. Either way I have been up to things An doing things , just in my own pace lol. I wanna share it on here and in the future there’s going to be timelapses of me , real me working on my large final tapestry.
Week 4
This week I did some small timed trials of some doodle ideas I thought of on fabric . It took me a little while to get back into the hang of things but I’m feeling it now , it’s like doodling but with needle and thread . Plus I needed a little break away from book stuff and staring at a screen , it’s making my head feel numb :(. It was nice to see my work from a different perspective , I’m a person that likes to image many different things on different things or ways . I just like to be creative

Week 5
This week I did manage to finally get my talking turkeys book cover designed finished , I’m so glad because even thought It was silly , I didn’t want to do it anymore :( it was draining me a little bit. Children’s book covers aren’t for me , but then again I don’t think many book covers are. It depends on what it is. Either way I’ve began sewing up and putting my tapestry and embroidery hoops together , I’ve just got to mark up the designs and I’ll be ready to begin. Starting is always the scaring bit so I’m going to start with the smallest designs first and then work on the bigger one till the end , makes sense lol. I have been doing some more trials on fabric this week though.
Instead of doing just random doodles I focused on some of the characters I’ve made and background . Working on the feedback I got from pippa and after watching trolls , I agree that I would much prefer my design to have a structure and layered background element to it , so I did some smaller pieces .

Week 6
So this week I dedicated my time to working on /off on one of my embroidery hoops , to be specific I chose to start the “ The 2nd of May, is sting nettle day”. I’ve been enjoying it , yet again I know I’ve been lazy with how quick I’ve been working on it but I’ve set myself the goal of getting it done by Sunday / or Monday so I can have something to discuss with my tutors , move onto my next design and work quicker. My butts starting to get back into motion again because I’m excited for how things turn out and I’m curious.
If I had to judge myself as a stranger though I do feel like there’s gonna be some feedback on My font and lettering being together . If this does come up that’s not a biggie because I’ve still got spare fabric , felt and thread to work with. But I’m happy with it , I enjoy the merging on these two styles coming together plus it’s getting my brain back into the flow of thinking of tattoo designs again .
I’ve got hopes for the next week , I feel like I’ve got more energy to more more speed into what I’m doing , I’ve just needed a break and many of lazy days to get me through most of my days lately but I’ve got some fresh energy back in my place after re arranging the whole place ;) lol any type of procrastination is welcome here
P.s this took 3 hours and 5 different individual attempts to do because of my wifi, I’m suffering😭

Week 3
This week wasn’t too bad, altogether I need to push myself to produce work faster when I’m creating designs. I’m aiming to set myself timed challenges so I can try and produce work of what first come to mind. My presented review wasn’t too bad,I know I sounded anti confusing but the feedback I got mainly focused on how am I going to keep my identity within my work and not to put too much pressure on myself due to sewing being a lengthy process. Personally I’m not feeling overwhelmed yet, I feel like I’m on a good path.
I’ve finally managed to choose some stories from the book : The botanical folktales or Britain and Ireland. All of my work is going to be centred on the tales from this and I’ve already started to draft of ideas of how I interpret the stories. Which is what my project is focusing on, it’s about how I as an illustrator interpret these folktales and use my own ideas on how I picture these characters.
I’ve been playing around with colours , a lot of greens and vibrant colours is what I plan to use throughout these pieces due to it being focused on nature and also being a vibrant artist myself. I need to think more on next week , on how I plan to use colour within my pieces. Because I can use different coloured thread, different coloured fabrics or felt. My plan ideally in week 4 is to start attempting my designs on fabric and also start putting together a shopping list of items I’m going to need to complete this project to the best of my ability. So far, I’m happy with where my designs are. I do need to produce some more so that I’m not limiting myself to my initial ideas and that’s have explored different ideas I might not have brought of in the past week.
Here’s some examples of flower dues celebrating and getting ready for the new season, based on ‘Joy and sunshine’ a folktale about celebrating for the plants coming into March
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ideally this is what I’d like my horizontal tapestry designs to look like , but obviously finished and with hanging rods
Tumblr media
So the plan next week is to carry on with some designs but also to start attempting some designs on fabric to understand how I’d make things work!!! Let’s hope that goes well , considering my birthday is next week so I plan to get drunk on cake
[lol this post was also late but it is what it is]

Week 2
Not that much of a productive week, I’ve been spending my time doing more research into the different cultural folktales and stories , but also the folk art too. There many different designs in different cultures which is interesting.
I’ve been planning out what methods and how many different pieces I’m thinking of creating, my plan is to develop and create 2 different horizontal tapestries that tell folktales but also 4 -6 editorial tapestries ei5hin embroidery hoops and a possible tote bag. My worry is about the time scales and how long it will take me to create and finish a single design. At the same time , it’s challenging myself to really thinking about my time scales and how long I’ve got. I need to become more motivated to create my work.
I am personally excited because I’ve always been interested with fashion and home decoration , not to mention with exverything going on in the world atm it sounds like a pretty good idea to have playful tapestry . I know it would brighten my day to walk past it in the morning and look at it, that’s what I want to do. Bring happier energy and playfulness to the space I place it in
I’m going to be attempting to create a water colour piece once a week to challenge myself to stay motivated but also to explore different designs for my characters and different scenarios I draw them in inspired by the folktales.
[lol this post is a little late but whose keep tracking :p]

Week 1
Ive started my personal project off by gathering images based on nature, tattoo designs, folk art and forest spirits.I’ve had a growing interest in tattooing since before/during my degree and I’ve referenced nature and some folklore elements in my past module projects. My original idea was to solely focus on folk art and nature, and creating tapestry to visually communicate a tale due to the fact I felt tattooing couldn’t be incorporated into this project. Until I began looking into how I could combine and present my work using different methods. I want to explore an relationship between tattoo design and folklore nature spirits , the way I plan to do this is by creating both embroidered and digital tapestry designs.
Before delving into what my designs are going to be and what they’ll incorporate I’ll first need to research and understand folklore, the differences between different cultural folk art and understand what design elements go into embroidery. Using embroidery to present my work is going to challenge me to think about my use of colour coordination, colour palettes and differences in my line quality and how I’m going to translate it into stitches. The sewing of tapestry can take awhile to complete but if I’m going to be visually communicating a folk tale it’s more realistic and authentic to do in the form of tapestry and not all digital, this challenge is what motivates me.
P.s I blame midsommar for sending me on this wild nature and folklore hunt

Its_Watevs
So something I’ve been struggling with for awhile now is howto make my own brand ‘thing’ . Coming up with names, plans and ideas stresses me out and I start overthinking everything and then I fizzle and don’t do anything.
Buttt! This is why its_watevs fits me perfectly , I don’t really know what I want to make because I like to make : earrings, necklaces/collars, T-shirt and jacket designs but also stickers . I feel free to explore all the different things and hopefully sell them to people.
To start off with I’ve made an its_watevs Instagram account , this is where I plan to promote and sell them to friends and family and branch out. I’ve also made a Depop to also sell on there but I’m not going to rush because I’m still new to al this jazz. But the plan on my mind, the action plan is to :
1. Start promoting earrings and showcasing my different designs
2. Create more designs and build a cage log of different types e.g. foodie ones , animals, bugs, or other stuff etc.
3. Begin sellin
4. Buy more materials and try different methods such as casting resin etc.
5. When I feel confident , more stable and got time move onto other projects such as clothes and see where I end up.
The goal I’ve set myself for doing this is just to be more confident and visible , seen as though it’s something I struggle with. And hopefully make others happy through what I’ve made.
I’ve always been that person that doesn’t like showing off their work or letting others see and the reason for me beginning to start my own brand thing isn’t just because of uni but others telling my they’ve appreciated what I’ve done. So anyone whose shy with their art, take your time to share and I guarantee someone will love your work.
( My page is still a work in progress but I plan to update it and post more on here, it’s been quite nice having a blog. I’m not focused on what I have to say that will get me likes)

❀ Platform for JOY! ❀
lol Welcome to my TED talk, jk for a project at uni in my professional practise, we had to come up with  and create artwork to bring joy to a train platform. Because everyone knows that travelling on trains suck, its only nice when its not full, when you can sit down and watch outside the window.
I wont lie this project threw me off a little bit and I didn't really know how to approach it because joy is a odd thing to research and when you do most people say that
“ not everyone experiences joy the same as others, because were all unique and different.”
- Anonymous
So I took my time with doing it, tried to avoid it but still do my research. I’m glad that I did because taking a step back to think about it and get my thoughts straight I was able to approach it better. so for anyone struggling , take you time and don't put the pressure on yourself to perform, you’ll work better when you can think clearly.
Any who I decided to approach this project by asking a few friends at work and customers what joy was to them and when they last felt it. I got mixed reviews but the main things that stuck out were most people I asked got joy from animals, food, sleep and flowers. I decided to incorporate these things into one poster so that my audience ( if they had a delay or time , etc.) could take a minute to look at it and then shift their focus onto the question “when did you last feel joy?”
My reason for doing that was, I can I draw things that bring joy but my research and a uni speaker who was a psychologist both made comments on how people use memory to bring them joy. They think back to a time they felt joy and smile. When I asked customers and my friends this question some of them smiled and paused for a moment to think about and some looked through their phone for a picture.
so combined with my artwork and a personal question I feel this would bring joy to train platforms because not only do you walk away feeling better but some travellers who anxious might get distracted thinking about the question. hopefully making them feel a little less anxious. Personally , I always think people are staring at me so I stare at signs , the floor, my phone or whatever . Then again I don't speak for everyone :P
