DAMMIT I PUT THIS ON THE WRONG BLOG
#65: The majority of meat items in Neopia aren't real meat, but some kind specially prepared vegetable protein. The exception is meals like roasted grackle bugs, which are made from real petpets.

#63: Alien Aishas like gross food because they evolved to be scavengers.
Resources are scarce on the quite barren Aisha homeworld. It's vital that nothing is wasted no matter what state it's in. Neopian Aishas, which descended from early Alien Aisha visitors, evolved over time to have normal palates because they no longer have to worry about that; Neopia's resources are abundant and most of its food is very clean and safe, so their bodies became very unaccustomed to fighting off disease as their ancestors could, similar to humans after cooking was invented.

#62: A Shadow Wraith is a Neopian's Heartless.
The Darkest Faerie didn’t actually have to do that much to create the impostor wraiths; they’re simply what happens when a Neopian’s heart is consumed by darkness. The impostors weren’t as powerful and didn’t maintain their forms as well because their transformation was forced and there was still light in their hosts’ hearts.
Incidentally, this is also why beings such as Kass fail to become ghosts after their defeat; they become wraiths instead.

#60: Alcohol is illegal in Neopia, but Krawk Island doesn't follow the law.
They're pirates, after all. Even when beers were replaced with sodas and wines were replaced with sparkling juices everywhere else, they continue to sell grog unhindered, because really, who's going to stop them? It's actually a major factor behind much of Krawk Island's tourism industry; if you can only drink in one place, that place is going to be flocked to.

#59: The raised fist that converted pets are known for is a Neopian greeting gesture equivalent to a wave.
The main difference between this gesture and threatening to punch someone is that, with this, you're not pointing your fist directly at the person you're greeting; you're holding your arm out at an angle, often showing the underside of your hand.
The gesture is Meridellian in origin, once meant to show that one wasn't armed, or if they were, to show exactly what they were armed with. But it spread to the rest of Neopia as a universal greeting after a while.

#57: It isn't unusual for Zafaras to have more than just the three spikes on their backs and the base of their tails.
How many varies from Zafara to Zafara. However, unless a Zafara is really young or really ill, these spikes are rarely visible due to usually being small and covered by fur.

#56: Virus Terask was the historical King Terask’s spirit.
Sloth made a contract with him - Terask promised that he would use his legendary strength to help Sloth conquer Neopia if, first, he helped him kill the descendants of his original enemies so that there would be nobody to stop him this time, along with crafting him a new body using his knowledge of transmogrification. Sloth agreed, and helped by sending Terask in the form of a computer virus, where he could wreak havoc personally while Sloth fulfilled the rest of his end of the bargain.
When the virus was deleted, Terask’s soul was destroyed and he ceased to exist. The artificial body was finished, but never got any use since its intended occupant was gone.

#55: The storm that ravages Lutari Island is no natural disaster. It was another genocide attempt by Captain Dread.
Like Old Maraqua all those years ago, he traveled there and made demands—demands that the Lutari wouldn't give into. Not only that, Dread was already very well-known as the pirate warlock who destroyed Old Maraqua by then, so the island's inhabitants tried to take him down and bring him to justice. Unfortunately, he proved to be too much for them, and after he got away from that, he decided that they, too, needed to be wiped out. Soon after, the storm came and rendered the island completely uninhabitable.
Briana, the faerie who lived on the island, tried to rescue and protect as many as she could, but one faerie can only do so much, and most of Neopia's Lutari population died that day.
The only good thing to come out of this was that Dread was defeated at long last in the process. Erin, the island greeter, swam out and stowed away on his ship before he finished casting the curse. Just as he thought he was victorious, Erin waited until he was in the middle of the Neopian Sea, far away from any land at all. Then, they set off a bomb, sending the ship to the bottom of the sea, with Dread on it. He will never destroy another land.
Erin's whereabouts are currently unknown; Dread's body was found among the wreckage, but Erin's wasn't. Official records say Erin died in the explosion. Many Lutari believe that, instead, they swam a previously unheard-of distance to safety, waiting patiently for the day their home is restored.
The anniversary of that day, the 30th Day of Relaxing, is a privately-held day of remembrance among Lutari.

#54: The bag mentioned in the inventory is the same kind of bag used for Ubikiberry Bags back in the day and Bag Of Infinite Neggs now.
In fact, they were Ubikiberry Bags. Given their extremely impractical use in the Battledome, they didn't sell very well at the Hidden Tower, and eventually had to be modified and repurposed. The faeries started to give the bags out standard-issue to all Neopians, because they intend to send that pet on quests later, and they'll probably need something to carry the requested item in. Fyora didn't like that they had a selfish motive like that, but ultimately agreed because, running the Hidden Tower, she knows just how much of a mess neopoints can be; when you need tens of thousands of individual coins for basic commodities, it's pretty much the only way to feasibly carry them all.

#53: The Ultra-Awesome Super Lucky Activity Play Set awarded by the Advent Calendar in Y8 is the game console the Flash games are played on in-universe.
Also, the standard UASLAPS controller is the one depicted in the Daily Dare controller items. The Broken Controller item was a third-party controller.
It also takes the joysticks seen in the Game Room; they share the same port, like the Sega Genesis/Mega Drive could take Atari 2600 joysticks.

#52: The Down For Maintenence Pteri was a beleaguered tech support representative who eventually cracked from stress.
His job was only to let frustrated users know that something went wrong and that they'd have to be patient while it was sorted out. He was actually a pretty nice guy, operating the offline games room himself so the clients would have something to do while they were there rather than just pushing them away. People love to shoot the messenger, though, and after ages of being blamed for taking the site down himself, he decided that he'd had enough and actually became the saboteur everyone thought he was. The major outage in February 2012 actually was his doing.
He's mellowed out somewhat in recent years, as complete outages became much less frequent and he could get a break from people screaming at him—not to mention getting to see the people actually responsible for any problems being properly blamed instead of him as the site entered a period of dereliction without any maintenance for a few years. He's still bitter and has a definite vindictive streak, but if you manage to earn his trust, he goes back to being the sweet, helpful little bird he originally was.

#51: Faerie abilities are the most common method of getting around Neopia.
In Neopia, vast distances have to be crossed very frequently. The most common ability in use is Flight, the former Level 12 Air ability. It was always too imprecise and clumsy to have any use in the Battledome at all, but was still in high demand due to the need for transportation. Air Faeries now bless neopets with the ability from the start of their lives due to how much it's needed. Float offers a much more controlled form of flight, but like other modern abilities, pets do need to train themselves until they're capable of handling it. submitted by anonymous

#50: The Haunted Woods IS the Neopian afterlife. Every pet who has ever lived can be found there.
Due to the supernatural nature of the Haunted Woods, there's infinite space for ghosts from all times to reside.
It is sometimes possible to visit the heart of the woods and search for long-lost friends and family, but it takes either a very dedicated or very foolish pet to try to enter the sacred home of the dead, as it will nearly always end in disaster. Very few pets have gone there and come back alive.
Ghosts can freely leave this place and wander the rest of Neopia if they wish, and many do, but the vast majority choose to stay at rest; even for a functionally immortal Neopet who can come back to life with a paint brush, death is a traumatic process, and a departed soul never feels quite the same even if they do paint themselves back—the constant feeling of not belonging puts the revived at extreme risk for depression. In fact, a Neopian's concept of heaven or hell is how strong that feeling is; a soul damaged by evil in life will feel far more incomplete and unable to continue than one with a pure heart. However, even some exceptionally damaged souls are very able to resist the feeling—primarily those who already have a lot of experience with the dead, such as Hubrid Nox.

#49: Mutant pets are heavily socially stigmatized.
Due to their monstrous appearance and their perceived ties to Dr. Sloth, there is a lot of prejudice towards them even long after he’d been defeated.
Occasionally, even life-or-death situations have emerged from this; for example, the heads of a Mutant Hissi are two separate individuals, and if repainted, the second head dies. Second heads are often understandably scared of the possibility of this happening, especially when their original head expresses disdain at their mutation due to either their own prejudices or the treatment they get from others.
