as we enter spring, it’s easy to find yourself underdressed as the sun sets. the next day, you wake up with a sore throat + stuffy nose and the panic sets in>.<
the last time I felt the inkling of a cold, I followed this protocol passed down by my mother and it was gone in less than a day.
blend:
1000mg vitamin c powder (supports immune system, promotes collagen production)
1tbsp fresh ginger
1tsp turmeric (anti inflammatory)
few grains of black pepper (increases bioavailability of curcumin in turmeric)
1 clove garlic if you’re hardcore. I rarely go this far, but garlic is a known antibiotic (interestingly, it knows to leave our good bacteria alone! nature is wild).
1/2 cup water
supplements:
magnesium bisglycinate
zinc
essential oils:
aim 3 drops of oregano essential oil at the uvula for the achy throat. start with a tiny drop to test
massage 2 drops peppermint essential oil on the temples for a cooling effect, this numbs headaches similar to scratching an itch.
disclaimer: essential oils do not cure illnesses. they merely support natural remedies that are actually backed by research. remember to consult your primary care provider before trying any new natural remedy ♡
as primates living north or south of the equator, craving warmer foods is the body’s way of trying to protect us from a climate it’s not naturally equipped to deal with. this is a simple, warming raw vegan dish for the colder months🤍
preheat your oven to 170°F then combine:
100g wild or chinese black rice, soaked for 24 hours at room temp until bloomed
5 large green leaves of choice (I used dino kale and collards), chopped
1 cup broccoli, chopped
“bake” with door slightly ajar for 10-20 minutes.
to make sure it doesn’t overheat: dip a clean finger into the dish every now and then. as long as your finger is comfortable, the enzymes are intact. you’ll eventually get a feel for the timing and won’t have to check as much:)
toppings I added:
1 mashed avocado + .25 tsp garlic + salt to taste
medium tomato, chopped
other yummy toppings: marinated mushrooms, sprouts, chopped green beans, shredded carrots, kimchi
