We might find ourselves laughing (or crying) to the thought of spending Valentine's Day alone, but really, a valentine doesn't have to be romantic to count.

The art of the letter.
Many of us grudgingly dig through the days mail, with just piles of bills and junk to show for it, hoping we had hand-written news. It’s a common complaint because many of us wish it were otherwise. See, even though text and email are quicker, the hand-written letter is the most warmly received manner of communication. It carries a small essence of the person who sent it, and there is something so special about receiving a note that has traveled potentially thousands of miles just for you.
I have nearly every letter sent to me saved in a treasure box… Letters from grade school pals, postcards from cousins, letters of encouragement from my mother when I was in college, and anecdotes on the garden from my now late grandmother… These are special. As much as I enjoy the convenience of a text, there is no emotional resonance of the same caliber that a letter creates.
I’d like to get back in the habit of personalized correspondence, and I encourage you to join me. A few kind words to a family member you haven’t seen in a while or a thank you to a friend that helped you when you were down would mean the world to them.
If it’s been a while since you put pen to paper, below is the classic formula I use when I write. Please enjoy, and send pictures to our Facebook page if you create a beautiful letter/ envelope for us to share (we promise not to publish addresses!).
Much love, Meg.

“Still now, I send letters into space, hoping that some mailman somewhere will track you down and recognize you from the descriptions in my poems. That he will place the stack of them in your hands and tell you, ‘There is a girl who still writes you. She doesn’t know how not to.’”
