Kunikidazai - Sleeping in the same bed

Some Kunikidazai headcanons for y’all~

We all know that Dazai and Kunikida would have extremely different sleeping patterns and schedules. Dazai is definitely a not a morning person which Kunikida definitely is. They kept running into problems related to this, when they first moved in together.

Dazai is a night animal. He lives (loudly) when Kunikida is trying to sleep and sleeps (soundly) when they should be getting to work. No matter how hard Kunikida used to try and wake him up, it all usually ended in failure. Despite Kunikida having an alarm set for six o’clock Dazai never wakes up to it, despite usually waking up to anything. It also used to be a problem because he used to wake Kunikida up at night and the man is very particular about getting 8 hours of sleep. At times the thought their relationship wouldn’t hold through the obstacles of trying to coexist like this. It mostly bothered Kunikida. But over time they both adjusted to each others’ schedules and made some sacrifices.

Dazai would also sometimes not fall asleep at all. This would worry Kunikida enough to tell him off. Really, he just cares deeply and knows that Dazai can’t sleep due to his insomnia. He offered to try and consult someone for medicine, but Dazai always jokes it off. Doppo now brings his bf calming tea before sleep and watches this man’s caffeine intake in the afternoon. Dazai thinks he is being overly cautious and ‘Look at Kunikida trying to act all motherly again~” It doesn’t always help, but its nice knowing someone cares.

They both have nightmares. Dazai doesn’t really show it, or sleeptalk. When he does have a nightmare either he just silently wakes up in cold sweat, or its a dream-paralysis and he can’t even move. His nightmares are horrific, but he never really talks about them even when asked. Kunikida murmurs in his sleeps when he is unsettled, he breathes heavily and just overall has a reaction. Those are usually dreams about people he couldn’t save, or abstract dreams about feeling like there is too much responsibility. Dazai always knows when his boyfriend is having bad dreams, and is always awake for it, since he is a light sleeper. Sometimes he holds his hand through it, and when possible hugs him. Other times Kunikida won’t even let him close and will wake up screaming and later look guilty. Dazai makes sure he knows its fine.

Okay so - one day Kunikida overworked himself so hard he slept through his alarm, so Dazai called Fukuzawa and asked him to pretend that they have a day off. Kunikida woke up, panicked, only to find an email from the president saying that they are all off duty and a smug Dazai preparing them both coffee.

Kunikida sleeps in a full pijama set, and Dazai sleeps in his bandages and boxers. They rarely cuddle and when they do its Dazai wrapping his limbs in the most awkward ways around Kunikida. He is like a house cat, but his boyfriend doesn’t mind. Dazai watches tiktok videos in bed for a living, and Doppo just scolds him - “Are you a child? You are wasting your time”. He secretly knows all the current trends, because he watches them over his boyfriend’s shoulder. Kunikida sometimes reads in bed, only to end up with Dazai on his lap complaining about how the book is obscuring his view, or about how its boring.

“Can I please blow you?” “What? Now?” “Now.” Dazai has a tendency to want to do stuff in the morning. It usually happens on weekends when they actually wake up together. Safe to say Kunikida doesn’t have that tendency - or used to not have it. Now its just “You are hard” and what is Kunkida supposed to do its the morning and he is only a man.

Kunikida likes it at night and in bed so he is more likely to initiate something when they are both already there. He might roll over and start kissing his boyfriend, and Dazai has never before refused. So what if its missionary and he feels like a nun, his boyfriend is amazing and traditional and shut up.
