Hey everyone! I know it’s been awhile since @reciprocitea posted a blog for #NewBlogWednesday, but there’s been a lot of magic happening behind the scenes. Today I went to the cities for a meeting with a potential merchandise supplier for the brand and they far exceeded my expectations. With that being said @reciprocitea has officially found its merchandise supplier and product design is well underway! Guess what that means? Official @reciprocitea merchandise is COMING SOON! There’s something insanely humbling about getting a text message from a dear friend with a picture of an artwork that you were commissioned to make for them. This beauty, is the first piece of art to grace the walls of @martinjms_’s apartment. It was my honor to spend just over twenty hours working to create a piece that speaks to who he is as an individual. It’s even greater knowing that all proceeds from the sale went towards @reciprocitea. For those of you who don’t know, @reciprocitea is a blog turned small business that seeks to raise awareness about mental health, combat stigma, and decrease Suisse rates worldwide; while promoting wellness, healing, and recovery and stimulating mental and emotional wellbeing. The last two weeks have been a whirlwind, but today I finally announced that I am a small business owner. That's right! @reciprocitea is officially a small business. Right now I'm busy getting my ducks in a row, filing amendment paperwork, and learning the behind the scenes business end of things; but don't worry @reciprocitea's got BIG things in store for you this year. 2016 will be a year of transition for myself as well as @reciprocitea. Please bear with us during this learning curve as we seek to learn how to better serve the mental health community. I am still a content writer for @merakics and will have new #teastips for you soon. Reciprocitea Turns One

One year ago today I took a deep breath and made Reciprocitea public to the world. What started out as an idea, slowly turned into a dream, that eventually became a blogging website, and within the next week will be taking the steps to evolve into a small business. 

Reciprocitea's mission as a blogging website started out as raising awareness about mental health, combating stigma, and decreasing suicide rates worldwide; while promoting wellness, healing, and recovery. As Reciprocitea transitions into becoming a small business, it's mission will still hold those core values, but; there's more. Reciprocitea's dreams, aspirations, and goals have grown within it's first year and I can hardly wait to show you what's in store.

In it's first year Reciprocitea has shared 51 (including this one) blogs, has reached more than 25 countries, has served as a platform to several guest bloggers who were kind enough to share their stories with the world, has appeared in three newspaper articles, has helped inspire an official proclamation recognizing suicide prevention week in the city of Owatonna, has planted the seed for and sheltered the steady growth of a community focused on strengthening the mental health community, and has continued to give my life purpose. 

Today, one the first day of the new year I want to take a moment to celebrate Reciprocitea. It's hiccups, struggles, never ending learning curve, as well as the triumphs and small victories that we may not even know have happened. 

Reciprocity in a social psychology is responding to a positive action with another positive action.

I created Reciprocitea in an honest attempt to give back to those who gave so much to me when I was in the darkest time of my life after my suicide attempt. I hope as Reciprocitea continues on in it's journey- regardless of where it takes us- that it continues to serve that purpose of giving back, of helping individuals choose life, of helping individuals share their stories, and of helping create change within the world.

Below is a gallery of logos that were created for Reciprocitea. My graphic designer was very generous in giving me the time to play around with ideas in my head as well as the ideas in hers until finally I drew a sketch on a scratch sheet of paper and sent it to her and said, "Let's go from here, work your magic!" 

Here's to what 2016 holds in store for Reciprocitea and here's to what 2016 holds in store for you.
