James “Bucky” Barnes x exhydra!femreader
sum: Bucky finding refuge after D.C from a woman that had been next to him for several years while held in captivity by Hydra.
warnings: cursing, implied past/current relation, violence, angst, hurt-comfort, reader is black coded, bold-italics are russian, reader is kinda mutant(she’s like Vi from incredibles but instead of turning invisible she can heal and create shields).
After D.C Bucky knew he had no choice but to leave, and if there was one thing he was good at was leaving without any trace. He had no money and nowhere to go. One thing he knew he wasn’t going back to Hydra, leaving the country would be the best option.
Maybe he did have somewhere to go, but he had to make sure it was the right place. Few weeks later He’d end up in Romania if there was one thing he was good at it was finding people and he needed to find her, worse that could happen is he got shot.
The clock read 2 a.m., signaling the witching hour when shadows deepen and the world outside holds its breath. An unsettling sensation prickled at the back of her mind, snapping her from sleep. With a jolt, she sat upright in her bed, adrenaline surging as she reached for the rifle hidden beneath her mattress. The air was thick with silence, each creak of the floorboards beneath her feet resonating like a warning as she made her way through her dim, shadowy apartment. As she rounded the corner into the kitchen, an icy chill settled in her veins. There, at her table, sat an enigmatic figure cloaked in darkness. Her heartbeat faltered for a moment, fear clawing at her throat, until her gaze caught the faint glimmer of moonlight reflecting off a metallic arm. Recognition gripped her, sending a wave of dread washing over her as she stood frozen.
“They finally sent you to try to kill me again huh?” She spoke keeping the rifle up to defend herself.
“No.” he answered, “I got out, did it know where else to go.”
She lowered the rifle slowly her eyes watching answering him slowly, “How did you find me.” she questioned.
“I’m good at finding things, and it’s not like you’re hiding.” he answered simply.
She scoffed, “What do you want?”
He could tell she was on edge her tone sharp and protective. “I need help, no money, no place to stay, and can’t go to hospitals for this.” he spoke his voice changing to english as he lifted the shirt up.
A large make shift bandage decorated his abdomen, the cloth bloody and the skin around it irritated. He watched her brows nit together a worried expression fall on her face “What the fuck happend.” she asked walking over to the table placing her gun down on to it.
Their eyes met a small glance being exchanged “alright… you need take that off, I’ll clean it then heal you..” she spoke softly moving from him over to her kitchen to get a rag and warm water.
He nodded quietly, his gaze fixed on her as she moved gracefully around the counter. She appeared transformed since their last encounter. Her hair cascaded down her back inis natural state, significantly longer than he remembered, adding a vibrant touch to her overall look. She radiated a newfound vitality, her skin glowing with health. Intrigued, Bucky took in the intricate tattoo artistry that adorned her left arm; delicate floral patterns twisted and intertwined, each bloom telling a story of its own. A few subtle piercings now embellished her face, glinting softly in the light and enhancing her features. The combination of her tattoos and piercings gave her an air of maturity and confidence that he found striking. He couldn’t help but admire how these changes suited her, transforming her into someone who seemed more self-assured and bold.
“James I need you to remove your shirt or else I can’t help you.” She spoke softly walking around the counter with the bowl and rag.
He did so, slipping the shirt over his head. He always took note of how she called him by his first name, a name that only seemed to be his when she said it. To her, he wasn't ‘Soldier’ or ‘Soldat’; he was James. Her eyes wandered over his figure, a few more scars on him than she remembered his shape the same still big and burly. She felt him flinch under her touch. The sound of his arm moving made her stop. “I won’t hurt you; it just hurts,” he reassured.
She gave him a look before continuing, “To be fair, that last time you showed up in my home you tried killing me gotta get why I’m a little, ya know.” She said frowning.
He pressed his lips together, “I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be, I lived. Plus you weren’t, well you.” She hummed, her eyes glancing up at him. “Why are you really here James?” She asked suddenly turning to dip and wring out the rag.
“Because I know you can deal with a bit of a beating and sneak around if you need something. You could’ve very well had this cleaned up what? Days ago when it happened, but instead you let it get infected, and came to me.” Her eyes meeting his as she faced him again.
He remained silent, the words caught in his throat. Deep down, he felt an overwhelming urge—no, a desperate necessity—to see her again. He longed to see the familiar face he had once associated with comfort and camaraderie during the grim days spent in the confines of Hydra. However, that face, once warm and welcoming, now seemed distant and cold, cloaked in shadows of their shared past. Doubt gnawed at him; perhaps this was a mistake after all. As he sat there, a sense of foreboding washed over him, mingling with a flicker of hope.
Her face carried a heavy frown as she looked at him her arms and legs crossed. He remembered when she left, a different doctor cleaning him up instead of her, he recalled asking where she was and instead of an answer he was put under and sent to kill her. He remembered her begging for him to let go of her as she fought back, how after he’d cut her skin would melt back together to heal herself. Her cries and pleas rang through his ears just like everyone else’s but here stood out, the only person in years who cared about him and talked to him like a human instead of a dog, the person who put her energy into healing him day after day, the person who quietly reassured him with a sweet smile on her face when in need, her words always gentle and kind. Then he hurt her, after putting so much trust in him he had hurt her.
He was thankful she’d got away, that she got off Hydras radar. But deep down the world ended when she left. “I don’t know.” He said avoiding her harsh gaze.
“Are you still-“
“No, I’m not in their custody anymore. They don’t know where I am.”
“How are you so sure?” She sneered.
“Because I tore it out,” he spoke up defensively. James had ripped out the chip they put in him, that made sense to the scab on his neck the chip was small and could easily be felt not a surprise it healed easily for it wasn't deep.
“I wouldn't put you in danger again, I can't ever forgive myself for hurting you before, I wont let it happen again.” he mumbled looking down.
He heard her hum before scooting closer to him, “Sit up James.” she said her finger tapping his chin to looks up,
“You can't stop what you can't control James.” She spoke her hands moving to his wound. A soft glow of white can from her hands a tingling sensation lurking around his wound as she heals him.
“I-” she started before closing her mouth.
“I know what you're capable of and in truth it scares me, because I can't get through to you when you're mind is clouded,” she spoke, her eyes focusing on him wound.
James felt his heart shatter into a thousand pieces at her words; the fear etched across her face pierced him deeper than any blade. She had every reason to be afraid—he was a man steeped in darkness, stained with the blood of his past. Her voice broke through the thickness of his thoughts, sharp and clear.
“But I think I understand,” she continued, her tone shifting from trepidation to something almost contemplative. “You’re all alone, just like me. If was so easy to kill Pierce would have done it himself. Instead, he sent you. It’s sickening, isn’t it?” A laugh escaped her lips, a haunting sound laced with both amusement and resignation. It echoed in the dim light, chilling him as it lingered in the air between them.
She shook her head slowly, a deep sense of weight settling over her thoughts like a heavy fog. “They sent the one person I treasured more than anyone else, the person I trusted most—on a mission to take my life.”
Pierce knew it hurt not only her but James as well, he knew she didn't fear death for she had never been close to it. And when she was about to face it flight took over, panic, crying, and screaming. Pierce got the sick satisfaction of having James who would have never laid a finger on her try and kill her, her body under his as he suffocated her his hand crushing her throat as she kicked and screamed. He remembered how her nails clawed at his face, trying to desperately pry his metal hand on of her throat, “Get off, please, please I don't wanna die. You don't have to do this.”
Looking up she saw his lip tremble, tears welding up in his eyes. “James-” she whispered sitting up her hands pulling away from his abdomen.
James hunched over, feeling the weight of his emotions press down on him, his forehead resting against his knees as he wrapped his arms around his head. The defeat in his posture was noticeable, a silent cry for solace that hung heavily in the air. She looked at him, her heart aching, and reached out instinctively, but then hesitated, her hands hovering uncertainly before retracting back to her own lap.
A frown creased her brow, and she absentmindedly began to pick at the delicate skin on her fingers, a nervous habit that surfaced in tense moments peeling the skin from her fingers. Inside, a wave of frustration crashed over her; she mentally chastised herself for bringing the painful topic into the air. Why had she opened her mouth? All she had needed to do was offer him silent support, to be there without the burden of words. She should have just kept quiet, allowing him the space to gather his thoughts without feeling the pressure of their past so obviously weighing down on her.
She took a deep breath before reaching out her hands carefully going to his wrist her body getting closer to him, “ James..” she whispered prying his hands from his head.
She was hurt her protective shield coming off and being harsh towards the broken man. He’d been through so much, his vulnerability spilling out in front of her. He felt safe here, he had no reason to harm her anymore even if he was afraid he’d hurt her again she was all he had. “James.. please look at me..” she spoke desperate for him to look at her.
James slowly picked his head up, her hands moving from his wrist to his face. The way he flinched broke her heart, causing her to pry her hands away, only for him to bring her hands to his face. He melted in the warmth of her touch, her thumbs rubbing his face. “If I could, I’d take it all back… I would’ve taken you with me…” she said, her voice filled with sadness.
She urged him closer. James allowed himself to embrace her his body leaving his chair falling on his knees his arms holding her close as her hands cradled his head. “You promised you wouldn't leave me there by myself..” he broke.
“I know… I know, I'm sorry…” she uttered.
Even after all the feeling of betrayal on both ends, they found each other again, running back to one another like before. Even with the thousands of miles between them, they'd crawl back to each other, she held his heart with such care while captive together. “Let me help you again…” she spoke up pulling his head back to meet his eyes.
James nodded his head tiredly before finding home back in her embrace. It would take both of them time to fully trust each other again but through it all this was the best things he’s done for himself. She kept his word helping him month after month, opening her home to him and helping him adjust to his new found freedom. Two years they would spend together, their fondness for each other never diminishing. Bucky came to terms that he didn’t have to be on edge all the time with her, now sleeping by her side at night.
He never realized how much he needed her till now.
a/n: messy sure maybe i’ll fix it up later but hope u enjoyed!

quick little bucky headcannon!
Thinking about how the lord didn’t give Bucky enough time with his sisters, the he didn’t get to watch them grown and spend the time he wished with them. So he sent Bucky daughters. four rowdy girls who reminded him deeply what it was like to live with girls. To have a household dominated by them. And he did not mind one bit, he couldn’t help but thank god for his home really felt like a home as each one of his daughters were born.

His Conscious

James ‘Bucky’ Barnes x Asgardian!femreader
sum: She’d had been with him for decades for a short time physically, then only in his subconscious. Through good and bad she had been with him until she wasn’t, once reunited not everything is so great.
warning: reader is 100% overpowered(idc), cursing, unrealistic stuff bc it’s a fan fic and Marvel, suggestive, takes place mostly during Civil War, Reader IS BLACK CODED! uncanon events for Civil war, lots of dialogue bc I like talking! Not proofread!
The last time he had felt her touch was November of 1943, where he was kept hostage in the Hydra facility. Back then he thought it was a hallucination, that all the torment and experimenting had really caused him to lose himself. The warmth of her hands touching his face whispering his name frantically her worried eyes looking over him, it had felt so real, and if you were to tell him at the time it was. that she was there to break him out before Steve had arrived he wouldn’t have believed it not one bit.
Then when he had fallen from that train, when everything went black he heard her voice. ‘James open your eyes..’
‘my love, I need you to open your eyes..’ the angelic soft echo of her voice stirring him awake. The pain sharp all through out his body and his heart bead rang through his ears as he was dragged away by Hydra soldiers.
That was only the beginning. Her voice and images of her would appear in his subconscious. But she looked different. Her hair wasn't short and pressed in a 40s fashion, but long, very long, and curly, and her clothing ethereal. He would slowly find out more, like that she was actually with him, taking home in his subconscious that even through being controlled, she was there.
It took time for him to come to terms that she was not quite human, but a goddess. Not just because she was beautiful but because she was capable of magics, he only knew what she was capable of through what she had told him. But the fact she could be in his conscious with him was fascinating enough.
He became greatful that she was there, not only did she spend time on his head but as time went on she was able to create life live visions that only he could see. She was like a ghost that hovered and did as she pleased, she wasn't able to come in contact with others around them.
As the Winter Soldier, he still knew who she was in a way, yes he didn't feel the same towards her, under control he found her irritating like an annoying fly that buzzed in his ears. Yet she knew what her presents meant to him, she kept him somewhat sane. Seventy years, Seventy years they had been together. Seventy years of her standing by his side through it all, comforting and understanding to him. Then one day everything went black. After he fell into the water everything went black for her.
She has lost connection with him, her eyes oppening for the first time in decades. Her body under dirt and snow in the German mountains, her joints popping and she slowly got up from her laying position. She hadn't been in her physical body for god knows how long, she didn't become weaker but her body hadn't moved in years. As much as she wanted to rush to follow and him and he with him again she had to take care of herself first.
Bucky felt like he was slowly losing his grip on reality as the days turned into weeks without any sign of her. The hollow ache in his chest deepened with each passing moment, his mind racing with chaotic thoughts. She had vanished from his life, leaving only shadows of despair in her wake. The worst haunted him: was she be safe? Did she suffer? Night after relentless night, he tossed and turned in an empty bed that felt colder than ever, the silence amplifying his fears.
Months slipped by without her reassuring voice, and the once-comforting embrace of sleep became a tormenting void filled with nightmares shed pull him from. Bucky’s mental health deteriorated, unraveling more than he ever thought possible. The weight of his worries pressed heavily on his shoulders, and he could feel the tension gnawing at him in an overwhelming sense of dread.
Every moment without her was a reminder of his loneliness. He was on the run, burdened not just by his past but by the ghost of the love he cherished and feared he might never see again. His once-stable world was now a torrent of chaos—his strength drained, his spiritfalling —coming to tearms that he'd never see her again.
After being run out of his place and held in custody, he was put back under control. A short rampage later he had woken up in a warehouse, his metal arm being held in a machine. Steve along with another man was questioning him till herd her voice, and it was clear that he wasn't the only one to hear it. Steve and Sam turning their bodies quickly twords the voice.
Bucky watched as her body emerged from the shadows, her long curly hair falling over her dark features slightly as she peeked around the corner. Bucky picked his head up stunned not believing his eyes,Fully coming out with a quick motion the two men on defence in front of bucky where pinned against the wall with knifes to the throats.
The smile on her face as she rushed towards him, her hands cradling his face carefully. She watched his expression, his mouth wanting to speak but his body fought against it. His right hand came up to her waist grabbing her “Oh my god..” his voice broke.
She grinned “Hi my love, thought I would find you else where free perhaps yet here you are caged underneath this thing.” she spoke.
Bucky shook his head lightly it soon falling into her stomach, her arms wrapping around him as he pulled her closer her his free arm. After a moment his other became lose without a second thought he wrapped both arms around her. She could feel his silent cries against her, her head dipping down placing gentle kisses to his head. This was the first time he had felt her warmth in over 50 years and he had actually felt her in general.
“What has you in distress baby?” she hummed, “I was only gone for a moment..”
He shoot his head “I thought I'd never see you again,” he muttered.
“Sorry it took me so long, had to recover my body…”
“Hate to break this up but can you tell your girlfriend to PUT US DOWN!”
Y/ns head snapped over to the man “oops!” with that they fell to the ground.
Bucky stood up catching her gaze “Theyre good they're friends…” he muttered.
She nodded her head her hand not leaving his forearm. “Is she-”
“No she's not with hydra,” Bucky interrupted quickly. Steve only nodded his head his eyes catching hers.
“Who are you? Because you're definitely not— well normal.” Steve spoke rubbing his neck.
She shifted her body now standing directly in front of bucky her body leaning back into him. “(name), I'm not exactly from here. I'm Asgardian-” she spoke vaguely.
“So you're a God? Do you know Thor?” Stever asked, he watched her face scrunch at the mention of Thor.
“I am Goddess of Versatility, and unfortunately I do…”
“Versatility?” Sam asked.
“Capable of almost anything I put my mind to, I can adjust and adapt to many different powers.” she shrugged explaining simply.
“Versatility is kinda boring..” same muttered.
“Sounds boring its not, I was able to hibernate my body for over 50 years in the German mountains, and live in his subconscious.” she smiled.
The two men looked at her dumbfounded. “Im a god, not only that but a kings favorite.”
“You must be the sister Thor mentions.” Steve said.
“Only sister he has so yeah, I'm the oldest” she shrugged
“Really you don't-.” Sam started.
“Diffrent mothers, don't care to explain more.” she interrupted her tone becoming sharp.
The two men nodded “So whats the plan from here?”
Bucky raised a brow “What you're obviously on the run I mean we're hiding in a warehouse… and I'm quite capable of helping.” she spoke Turing towards him.
Through a bit of useless protest from James there, she was fighting with them, doing pushback and sticking close to Bucky's side. This was the first time he'd seen her use her power, it was kinda humoring her fucking with them may it have been kind of games or using their power against them. A pretty smile on her features as she defended against the others. Her little conversation with Peter the teen nodding to her his voice almost excited even tho she had him any the collar, her nodding at him and telling him goodnight before blowing in his face. Peters's body falling limp as he giggled putting him down carefully.
“He seemed a bit too excited to be here.” she laughed walking over the Sam and James wrapped in a web lying on the floor.
T’challa wasn't light on his punches when it came to Bucky. One solid hit had pushed him back before he could get up the panther was already charging twords him, with a quick motion he was slammed in the the truck next to him.
“Go!” She yelled.
His eyes narrowest shaking his head “Ill find you! I aways so now go.” She reassured. He groaned irritated, upset that she wouldn't be with him, again.
Hours later He had found out that everyone was arrested. Meaning that she must have been aswell, Steve watched Bucky his eyes curious and sympathetic to his friend. “She’ll be fine well get her out after, I promise.”
He shook his head “Shes never been imprisoned and from what you told me She wont be able to use her powers to an extent and if she dose shell be hurt.” he spoke sodtly, she was probably losing her shit if there was one thing James knew about her is that she can easily be triggered and aggression is how she showed frustration and panic in some situations. Restricting her power and hurting her when did brought back unpleasant memories ones you don't ever wanna relive.
She was Practically bouncing off the walls wrapped up like Wanda, she didn't quite understand how they were restricting her powers, and when she got a spark she was heavily electrocuted. Sam and Clint were in the cells next to her telling her she had to stop, all she was doing was hurting herself. Her mind racing as her face fell into her lap as she sat on her knees. She needed to get out, she needed to find James, they were going to to kill him. She needed to get out, she needed to help him.
A groggy cry came from her as she mistakenlytries getting out of these binds again, “They're made like that for a reason, you're not supposed to keep going.” a male voice rang through her ears.
She knew that voice “The humans didn't take it kindly to Loki destroying New York, helped them be able to block power like ours.”
She sat up slowly, a heavy frown on her face as she mad eye contact with her Brother, the silent tension between them thick. “You know Sister after all this time I didn't expect you here..” she could hear the disappointment in his voice.
“Why are you here?” she asked her voice tired.
“Take you home, so you're not rotting in this cell.” he spoke.
She shook her head “I can't go back..” she whispered.
“Of Course you can, Father would be pleased to see you..”
“What of mother-”
“She gone.” he answerd quickly, his brows frowned.
She stayed silent “You must come with me, I beg of you.” he spoke.
“I left for a reason Brother…” she spoke softly, “you got 30 seconds Thor!” Toneys voice spoke up.
“I wont take you home, but I can use it as an excuse to leave with you. I heard about you're little flame, that's why you wont go back right?” he spoke quickly
Dumbfounded she nodded “yeah.. But the gate-”
“Thes dumb mortals wont think twice when I fly off with you in these.” he spoke showing so Asgardian cuffs.
“Do you want to go or not.”
She nodded.
She might have left with Thor but found a safe enough place to land, taking her cuffs of and wishing her well “Rember you're always welcome back home, even if it mean you bring him. Consider it sister.” he spoke smiling to her.
“Thank you Brother tell Loki I say hello,” she spoke, “I missed you I hope to see you a bit more.”
He chuckled, “ I have a feeling well be seeing each other again sometime soon my dear sister, just don't get in to much trouble can only do so much here.”
It didn't take her long to track them down, but she was far behind. Her body teleporting a bit away from the compound entrance she saw T’chlla him standing next to a body. She could feel her hear drop as she rushed towards them, getting closer she had let out a sigh of relief.
“He down there,” T’challa spoke his gaze meeting hers. “Couldnt guarantee you that's he's alive, he said something about turning them on each other. Go down with caution.” he finished.
Without a moment's hesitation, she sprinted toward the door, her heart racing as she maneuvered through the maze of the unfamiliar surroundings. The air was thick with chaos, the sharp sounds of shattering glass and frantic shouts echoing around her, propelling her forward. As she rounded the corner, a wild scene unfolded before her eyes: Steve was grappling with Tony, their bodies a tangle of energy and aggression, while the sight of Bucky sprawled on the ground sent a shock through her. Her gaze darted between the two skirmishing men and the still figure of her friend, the urgency of the moment electrifying her senses.
“James!” she shouted, “Bucky, baby, hey open your eyes,” she spoke panicked, his metal arm was shot off leaving a nub of wires.
She shook him a bit before her hands fell ti his face, her hands glowing a soft white as she focused on him. The sound of the two men next to her fighting became dull as she healed him, she watched closely as his eyes shifted under his lids “Common baby come back to me..” she whispered.
She felt a hand on her shoulder “Stop he's there he's just unconscious, back off!” she shouted glancing over her shoulder to Steve who did exactly as she said. Her brows frowned seeing him as he was.
“Im sorry… Ill help you next,” she apologize.
“What about him?” she asked glancing towards Tony.
“If you can then please.” he groaned his back falling against the concrete wall.
She hummed shifting her gaze back to Bucky, his eyes open just looking over her. “Well hi handsome,”
“Hi doll, when did you-”
“Dont worry about it baby, lets just focus on getting out if here once I get them up and going..”
She took the time she needed to heal Steve enough so he could get up, with Tony was a bit more difficult due to everything that had just happened. He wanted nothing from her but she kept insisting, his communications were down and its be a bit till someone could even get it to him. Eventually, he let her, making a few comments about her being Thor's sister. “Well marital afairs happen everywhere. Not every marriage even by law and arrangement can be happy, plus my fathers just an asshole.” she chuckled.
“Take it mommy issues.” Tony sassed.
“And you have Daddy issues, we all have problems Stark, but our parental issues are much more different.” she scoffed, her tone and choice of words telling him that here was more a physically issue than emotional.
“T’challa said there will be someone here for you soon.” She spoke he hands falling into her lap.
Tony shook his head “Id like you a lot more if I knew you weren’t aware of what he did.”
She sighed glancing over to Steve and Bucky, his eyes trained on her. “He couldn't control what he did, but one thing I do know is that every person haunts him, he'll always remember, their screams and begging for their life. That right there is worse than death.” she muttered fidgeting with her fingers.
“But nobody here is clean of blood, you've killed someone's parents, someone's child. You Avengers aren't as clean of blood as you make yourselves out to be.” She spoke standing up, walking over to Bucky and Steve.
she watched as he was about to say something, “But that's wasn't you're fault right? You couldn't control it.” she finished, her eyes moving from him to Bucky.
“Get home safe Mr. Stark, and I wish your recovery to be quick.” she said leaving the the two men.
Days had drifted by in a haze since everything had changed. T’Challa had generously offered them both refuge in his kingdom, providing a safe haven as they navigated the complex process of liberating Bucky from the haunting grip of the Winter Soldier. For now, Bucky was equipped with a straightforward replacement arm—nothing overly elaborate, but functional enough for everyday use. T’Challa appreciated having them close; keeping Bucky and her in Wakanda allowed him to ensure they were not only safe, but secure as Bucky was still considered an unfriendly to the world.
Bucky found solace in this arrangement, welcoming the chance to remain in Wakanda, especially since it meant being alongside her. The two had settled into an expansive shared suite, a space that resembled a charming studio apartment. Sunlight streamed through large, intricately carved windows, illuminating the warm, rich tones of the wooden furniture and the traditional African textiles that adorned the walls. The atmosphere was cozy, offering a perfect blend of comfort and privacy, allowing them to retreat from the world outside while they explored their evolving relationship and faced the battles lingering in Bucky’s mind.
As James underwent various tests in the lab alongside Shuri and the team of scientists, she found herself wandering through the magnificent halls of Wakanda, accompanied by T’Challa. He proudly showed her the intricate details of his home, from the stunning vibranium architecture to the lush greenery that surrounded the palace. T’Challa reassured her of their warm welcome in his kingdom, though he acknowledged that not everyone shared the same level of trust towards her and Bucky—something that would likely change with time as they proved their loyalty. He knew she was of royalty herself much different from him, but she would become useful giving bits of insight and knowledge to the new king. “Sure you're not a queen yourself?” he'd joke.
“Many in my Relm would say it is my birth right, but I am only a woman that's what the men of my father's court would use as an excuse.” she hummed, her world was much different from their gender roles were very much still a thing, and she had run away.
Reflecting on their journey, it became clear that her presence had expedited Bucky's recovery; she was the catalyst behind him receiving a state-of-the-art replacement arm sooner than anyone had anticipated. In the quiet moments, she often found solace on the balcony of their shared room, watching the vibrant sunset over the horizon. It illuminated the sky in shades of orange and pink, and she relished the calm that accompanied her newfound sense of reassurance. Unlike before, when anxiety would push her to constantly linger at Bucky's side, she now felt a profound sense of certainty: he was not going anywhere, and neither was she. This realization brought her a comforting peace, wrapped in the warmth of their shared commitment.
The sound of the heavy door opening and closing caused her to look over her shoulder, her eyes meeting his. Pushing up out of her seat her bare feet touching the cold floor as she rushed over to him, a smile on her face. A common routine in their night, not always many words were exchanged but that was okay. Her hands held his face picking it up to look at her. Bucky was on the edge of the bed as she stood between his legs his hand on the back of her upper thighs, he'd always liked how she favored gowns short or long, the Asgardian fabrics much more luxurious than any here. He took every chance he got to feel her, to let his hands linger on her body feeling, memorizing every curve of her body as she simply stood in front of him and talked. Every chance to kiss her and her dark complexion, his lips kissing over her stretch marksand whatever most would consider an imperfection, but to him everything about her was perfect.
After years of never being able to feel her, how could he not? He worshiped her and the ground she walked on, he yearned to feel her warmth for decades to actually get to heel her skin to skin and not just the cold emptiness of his conscious. Yet there would be times he was so afraid to touch her, scared that she would just vanish like she did as time when he would reach out to her. The feeling of her hands not cold or light when she would touch him, her body coming from behind him her head resting on his shoulder blade as she would comfort him after being woken form a nightmare. Her whispering softly urging him back to lay with her and fall back asleep. Assuring him that he won't hurt her, that he could hold her as the sleep or that she could even hold him. His heart heavy as she would speak gently to him as he laid on her chest, her hands warm as her fingers grazed lightly over his face bushing his hair back.
“Please don't ever leave..” he muttered softly his head shifting to look at her.
“I'm not going anywhere, my love. Now you must sleep, and with how strong your embrace is let's hope I don't have to pee.” she smiled, her eyes holding his. “I no desire to be anywhere without you,” she spoke watching him sit up a bit.
“Wherever you go, I go,” she whispered before her lips met his.
She might have had a few thousand years on him, and thousands more to live, but she would die with him no matter what. She wasn't just bored to adjust and adapt but born to create and destroy, she was much more than a stupid powerful, and unpredictable god and even he knew that but she wasn't invincible either she could do many things nobody could but there was plenty that she couldn't. When she would heal and even bring someone back from the dead she gives up parts of her life span, even with that she would have thousands of years without him.
His fingers messed with her messy curls as she laid on his chest, his eyes catching small strands of silver in her dark hair. “Graying before me?” he muttered teasingly.
She sat up quicky at his comment “what?”
“You have a really small batch, like four gray hairs.” he spoke touching her hair line above her eyebrow.
She stood up from the bed, her body bare as she rushed to a tall mirror on the wall, Bucky watched amusingly as she looked through her hair in a panic like state. He watched as she smiled a bit her body turning to face him “Didnttink id ever see a women happy to see that she had gray hair he chuckled.
She rushed back over to the bed, “Do you know what this means.” she spoke her excited tone in a whisper as she crawled over to him.
Her body sitting atop of him she leaned down here face close to his “ My healing and bring you back has caught up with me!”
He raised a brow “I'm aging quicker. Its a good thing believe it or not.”
He didn't quite understand how losing parts of her life span was exciting but at the same time he did. He knew that he had no desire to live for thousands of years after him, she wanted nothing more than to age like a human but she was not born a human. He knew in the end they would find each other again, may it be in another lifetime, or even after death. What they both understood was that they would die along with the other. Their life had begun to have no meaning with out each other, two damaged souls who found each other, and never left each other.
The gods will forever determine her end and the way she shall reast, but one thing was sure if she was taken sooner or had to live without him, to gods would keep him safe for her. Keep him so that she would be able to rest easy with him in the end of it all.
For maybe he'll someday only be within her subconscious and dreams.

Carter Dutton-Wheeler x oc!Crystal Maverick
4.) Blue Collar Romancing
sum: The warm summer night filled with lights, music and laughter was what he needed. Their first date, a night for them to be teens with minimal interruptions, but as the night goes on their night gets a bit bumpy.
warnings: Cursing, tension, parents being nosy, jealous Carter! bit of violence. Suggestive, Uhh line dancing/ swing dancing(I'm not a professional) Lots of dialogue, boring parent conversation, this chapter is lit me ranting and listing to country music. Not proofread!
Carter had finished getting ready, Wearing a simple outfit a gray-blue Carharrt t-shirt, and nice wranglers held up by his belt and of corse his hat and boots. He looked nice, yet delayed if he should wear a bottom up instead, so he ran downstairs and asked his mamas advice, unfortunately it wasn’t just her in the house but the family plus Mr. Maverick still.
“Hey mama, should i wear a button up instead-” he stoped him self as he saw every else in the kitchen.
“We’ll look who know how to clean up,” Monica teased.
Carter gave a quiet hi advoiding Rios staving gaze. “And where are you goin?” Rip ended up asking.
“With the bunkhouse, asked to go Crystal with me…” he answers.
Rip hummed giving a look to Beth leaving her to only scoff, “Baby it’s nothing fancy think the untucked shirt is the move, you wearing your cowboy hat or a Cap?”
“Cowboy-“
“where your ariat hat, the clean one i just got ya.” she spoke, “will look better, plus think you’ll look more your age out there without the cowboy hat.” she smiled.
Carter nodded a bit before heading back up stairs and grabbing the hat. She has got him a dark blue kimes ranch hat with a flat bill, he liked it and looked nice on him definitely looked better than his cowboy hat. Heading back down stairs he said his goodbyes to his parents and everyone else, even though he had a feeling he was gonna end up seeing most of them tonight.
Carter shut the front door walking across the yard over to where the Maverick trailer was parked. Before he fully got there Crystal had opened the door and come out. Carters eyes looked over her outfit admiring her, to be honest this is the most skins he’s seen of her and she was only wearing a crop top. She wore some low rise light wash true religion jeans with pink embroidering her belt holding them up, a pink corseted top with lace outlining the chest and tank straps, There was a bow on the front with long strings hang down.
To be honest his favorite part about the top was the cut. Sitting low enough on her chest, and low enough it stoped right before her bellybutton, which was decorated by some dangly gold jewelry. All the jewelry she wore was gold, it looked amazing on her completion. Her boots were different nice, cleaner and the they were pointed not the round rope but square.
“you ready to go?” she asked wallet and keys in hands her body moving close to his.
“Yeah..” he nodded, “You look amazing, i really like the pink.” he complemented.
Her glossy lips spread into a wide smile her eyes meeting his “Thank you, it’s my favorite!” she spoke her body twisting a bit giggling. He couldn’t help but admire her face, her makeup done neatly, it sat on her face so perfectly she was sparkly like covered in glitter maybe from a body spray? He thought. She smelled good to, ugh he was gonna lose his mind.
She put out her hand basically telling him to take it, “Let’s go cowboy, and who knew you could clean up yourself.” she teased as they started to walk hand in hand
Carter shook his head grin wide “Special occasion i guess,” he shrugged his shoulder.
She laughed swinging their arms a bit, as they walked down to her truck. “Here,” she said handing him the keys, “You can drive the big girl truck.” she spoke sticking her tongue out a bit.
“Are you sure?” he asked a bit of worry in his voice.
“Yeah i trust you, the only vehicular i see on this ranch are big trucks plus mine turns easier than the rams.” she spoke pushing him twords the driver side.
Crystal watch as a grin grew on Carters face “Alright!” She could only laugh at his excited tone.
The Ride to town was nice felt short due to them enjoying each others conversation, the teens laughing and talking about things they enjoyed and liked to do, the music softly playing in the background. It wasn’t what he normally listen to but he liked it, the mix of 2010s pop, new and old rap.
He would look over at her any chance he could get just wanting to take her in features. He couldn’t help but catch small glimpses of her cleavage, when his gaze lingers a bit longer he was caught. “Watcha looking at Carter my eyes are here.” she laughed.
His eyes darted right back to the road quickly the tips of his ears redding form embarrassment, “No, i wasn’t- I was looking at your necklaces!” he defended himself.
she hummed teasingly “Yeah soo what shape are they?” she questioned.
Shit, he thought his eyes starting to move but her hand caught his face making him look at the road “Nope, what shape where they Carter?” she grinned.
“Ugh i don’t know, i’m sorry i-“
“no need to apologize just giving you shit baby.” she laughed leaning in the center console she held the two necklaces up to him to see.
“they’re stars,” she spoke. One’s a northern star with a cheap diamond in the middle with another one dangling under it, and the one above was a shooting star gold with a clear gem pattern as the shooting part of the star.
“you like stars i take it.” revering her ranching shirt, and even her earrings.
“mmhm i do, also really like lillie’s but they don’t make Necklace i like in lillie’s.” she hummed leaning back into her seat.
“Like the flower?”
“yep, they’re really pretty.” she smiled to herself.
They had finally made it to town, finding parking was a pain but ended up finding a spot. Carter was quickly to get out running around the front to open Crystals door. She smiled taking the hand he offered out to her, Closing and locking the door as she got out. Crystal didn’t end up peeling her hand away after but adjusted so their fingers intertwined, Carter was new to PDA but he was starting to learn he didn’t mind it. Her closeness and almost need to touch him he enjoyed, he liked that she wanted others to know she was with him.
Didn’t take long for them to reach the blocked of road, sounds of music and conversation bringing warmth to the atmosphere around them. Lights Hung between the streetlights to light up the streets when it got dark, diffrent kinda of food trucks and even little markets on the sides, plenty of seating to eating and even relaxing. As they walked around What caught Crystals eye was a place in front of the stage placed flooring for dancing, there were already people dancing songs for squat dancing being played by the band.
“Can you dance?” She asked glancing over at Carter.
“Um kinda… Teeter and Laramie get the guys into dancing so i’ve learned a few things, Why..?” he questioned warily.
Didn’t take Carter long to put two n two together, her look asking him ‘would you?’,
“Maybe…” he spoke.
“Hmm okay and if not Cori is gonna be here i’ll find her and dance!” Crystal said leaning into Carter.
The sun had started to get low the two teens had been walking around for a bit talking back and forth as they looked through the shows and people watched. Seeing Familiar faces Carter could only blush when the hands saw him with Crystal, Teeter being the loudest about it. Carters embarrassment as Teeter and Coly teased the teen made Crystal laugh, the comment of “If he does sumthin stupid you let me know!” left form Teeters thick accent as Colby pulled her away to leave them be.
“The whole bunks gonna give me shit.” Carter groaned sitting on the side walk next to Crystal. A wide smile on display as she comforted him.
“ Don’t worry I’ll get to hear all about it tommorow from my Dad, Brother and Best fried, and trust me when i say Teeter and Lara are gonna be ten times worse.” She spoke through giggles. “Just how they are, and i take it you’ve never been seen with a girl.”
Carter nodded “Yeah never with, they’ll approach me but i just kinda slip away or Ryan saves me; sometimes.”
She raised a brow teasingly “Oh so i should be worried about you being hit on while your with me mr. Popular?”
Carter sat up kinda panicked “What no! I’m here with you, you’re the only girl i’ll be talking to.”
She laughed pushing her shoulder into him “I’m joking, You’re a handsome guy if i saw you out here i’d wanna bite myself.” she hummed eyeing him.
“You’d wanna bit me?”
“UGH NO!” she laughed, “like i’d adpriach you, try to talk to you!” she spoke her face warm from embarrassing herself.
A smug grin on Carters face made her glare at him “You knew exactly what i ment didn’t you.”
he nodded laughing as she swatted at him “get out of my face!”
“I’m not that dense; I just wanted to see your reaction. Seems when you get called out of the question when you flirt, it makes you all flustered!” Carter chuckled. She rolled her eyes playfully. It was true, of course, but he didn’t need to point it out.
After a brief moment of lingering in the comfortable embrace of the evening, they finally rose to their feet, driven by hunger. As they wandered through the space, the tantalizing aromas wafted through the air, guiding their steps until they unexpectedly bumped into Carters parents.
Beth's face lit up with a warm smile, a beacon of familiarity that brightened the already vibrant scene her arm linked with her husbands. Rip nodded in acknowledgment, A few casual words floated between them, Beth being nice and curious to what the pair had been up to.
Soon, an invitation was extended to join the gathering at a big table, where everyone was at talking amongst each other. And when she said "everyone," she truly meant it—the space was teeming with family and the ranch hands, all gathered together, their voices mingling together that echoed with joy and connection.
Carter glanced at Crystal, “Sure we'll be right over getting some food, see y'all over there!” she spoke.
Beth nodded briefly, offering one last smile to her and then a knowing smile to her boy. Carter tuned back, Crystal noticed a look on his face “Everything alright?”
“Hm? Yeah just kinda wanted to stay away from everyone sorry..” he said hit tone bummbed.
The feeling of her fingers slip through his caused him m to look over to her, “This is the most time we've gotten to spend together since I got here, I think a little family time won't hurt plus. We still have to drive home… we could make a detour?” she spoke her voice getting a bit quieter at the end.
“What?”
“Plenty of trails we can drive up to look at the stars.” she hummed her eyes meeting his.
Carter nodded a small smile on his face “Yeah there is.”
She grinned, watching his demeanor change, It was not that she didn't want to spend time just with him herself, but with everyone here they were hard to avoid. Wouldn't hurt to hangout with everyone.
As they gathered their food and drinks, the group made their way to the table, sliding into the open spot nestled between Laramie and Caroline. The air buzzed with a delightful mix of chatter and laughter, creating a lively atmosphere. The Cowboys, with their playful camaraderie, took turns ribbing Carter, recounting amusing tales from his past that had everyone howling with laughter. Crystal, who had been giggling along, suddenly fell silent as her father chimed in, his voice teasing yet affectionate. With a mischievous grin, her brother jumped into the fray, adding his embarrassing anecdotes about Crystal that had the table erupting into laughter once more.
Carter watched as Crystal's eyes flickered restlessly toward the vibrant dance floor, where the rhythmic thump of boots striking the polished surface mixed with the pulsating music reverberating through the air. The lights danced around her, casting playful shadows on her face, reflecting her growing excitement and longing to join the crowd swaying to the music.
It wasn't long before Cori seized her friend's hand, tugging her enthusiastically onto the vibrant dance floor. The moment they stepped into the pulsing rhythm of the music, the two girls fell into a perfect sync, their movements fluid and effortless. They weaved through the throngs of dancing bodies, twirling and laughing as lights overhead, casting a soft glow around them.
Craters, observing from a distance, couldn't take his eyes off Crystal as she danced with an enchanting grace, her body flowing to the hypnotic beats of the song. Each sway and twirl seemed to draw him in, highlighting the sheer joy radiating from her. Yet, as he watched, a knot of uncertainty twisted in his stomach. Despite the urge to join her on the dance floor, his pride held him back, sared that he'd do nothing but embarrass himself.
Carter felt a pat on his arm his eyes moving from her meeting Walker and Colby who grinned as the boy, Walker leaned in “You better get out there before someone else snags up your girl.” he spoke, Laramie nodding at her boyfriends words.
“If there's one thing the girl enjoys to do is dance, and shit lil boy shell dance your boots off.” Colby spoke
Laramie pointed over turning Carters gaze “Take a look, the only thing stopping those boys right there is the fact they know she's being watched by these cowboys.”
Carter scoffed a little eyes the group of guys that looked around their age talking amongst each other, ones eye directly on Crystal. Carter felt his stomach twist uncomfortably a small frown creeping onto his lips. “Do be a pussy go dance with her.” Ryan spoke leaning down to the teenager.
“I can't dance-”
“Bullshit, what are you Embarrassed? Because I think its time to move past that because someone else can make her nice a lot more fun by one dance,” Laramie said laughing.
“And looks like someone might just make it better, and he doesn't look like you baby.” Beth spoke pointing, Carters head snapped looking towards Crustal the guy he was just eyeing dancing next to her in the line.
“What the-”
“I'll go with ya gives me an excuse to dance with Coraline,” Tate spoke standing up with Carter heading one over.
Crystal's eyes met craters quickly, a smile on her face as she reached her hand out. Carter's gaze glared at the guy next to her, earning a scoff from the blonde, who quickly took his spot as the dance continued. His expression changed as he met her eyes, a smile blooming on his face as he took her hand to spin her. Took her m a second, but he caught up quickyly with the group, Carter found himself enjoying dancing in front of everyone 2 to 3 songs later; he was winded, but he wasn't going to give up. Dirt on my boots kept playing as the dance got to the end, and people started to slow down.
A little dirty dancing
Craters eyes looked over to Crystal as she swayed her hips getting lower,
blue collar romancing,
quickly standing up from her low position, spinning in her heels.
Carter whistled under his breath a bit before she looked over to him offering him a smile, “Common Cowboy keep up,” she teased right before the beat dropped again and they finished off the dance.
Carter stood next to Crystal hands on his hips shaking his head “Hope you know how to swing dance baby.” she hummed walking closer to him.
“Ive seen it its not to hard, sure you can keep up?” he tease.
“Trust me you don't need to worry about me.” she laughed, her hands reaching up to his hat. The first thing dong trough his mind that she was gonna put it on, he was confident she knew the hat rule. Much to his relief she just flipped it.
She pulled herself back eyeing him playfully, “mm you look good all hot ‘n sweaty.” she teased a hint of suggestiveness in her tone her fingers lingering on his neck and dragging down.
“Stop that- our parents are watching.” he spoke embarrassed from her comment and her touch.
She shrugged “They can't hear me.”
Carter only shook his head, his grin widening as he took her hand, his other placed on her lower back, his thumb looped into her belt loop. Good time played as the dance floor moved together, spinning and sliding in pairs, bodies close together as they moved around. They were practically grinding up in each other, at least that's all the table saw Beth and Elijah could only laugh at Rip as he complained that now he has to deal with Carter being distracted.
“Common baby its good for him, and wouldn't you rather it be Crystal out of any other girl. Busy herself and knows work comes first.” Beth pointed out.
Elijah nodded “My daughter is bound to keep your boy on his toes and honestly sneak around a bit but won't distract him, like your wife said work comes first, and she's prepping for rodeo herself.” he spoke taking a sip from his beer.
“And I like your son, can see right through the kid, and he's yours.” the emphasis on yours Rip, and Beth both knew what that meant, the kid wasn't stupid and loyal. He didn't have to worry about this boy hurting his baby, to be honest, they should be worried about her.
“With all do respect I like your daughter, she's a better hand than half of my boys. Just worried I know how teens are and she's not very quiet about…” Rip spoke cautiously.
“Her boldness? Yeah- She wants to eat the boy alive, Theyer teens, and she know unsafe actions have consequences. Hope your boy knows the same.” Elijah spoke giving a knowing look.
Rip raised a brow “For her being your only girl, you aren't very protective.” Kayce said.
Elijah laughed “Oh that boy hurts her, or gets her pregnant ill kill him, kill her and bring her back but he ain’t common back from the dead. It’s the same for my Son, want to do grown activity’s you better be prepared to face grown consequences.” elijah stoped for a momment, “But it’s not just my say, I have rules and by god i want my children to come to me if needed in a emergency that most parents would flip out on like sex, STDs, scared and just the talk in general. I was a teen parent my self their older brother is 8 years older than them, i was a stupid teen and i know what it’s like. But i won’t turn my back on them and not ignore that fact they’re teenagers.” he finished shrugging.
“And that lil girls is deathly afraid of pregnancy, loves kids but god does the idea scare her.” Elijah could only laugh looking over at his daughter dancing with Carter a bright smile on her face.
“But as his parents you gotta have that talk with him, and have set rules.” Elijah spoke one last time before standing up to get another drink. Beth and Rip shared a knowing glance, they’re gaze shifting back to the teens. It wasn’t a conversation Rip wanted to have but he knew his wife was gonna make him lead it.
As the night began to wane, the atmosphere at the table was lively, with Carter and Tate engrossed in an animated conversation, their laughter blending with the cheerful banter of the surrounding cowboys. Beth couldn't help but smile at Carter; his eyes sparkled with pure joy, a radiant expression she hadn't seen on him in what felt like ages. Watching him revel in the moment, she felt a warmth in her heart, knowing he was genuinely enjoying himself amidst this vibrant gathering. The air was filled with a sense of camaraderie, and Beth embraced the happiness radiating from Carter, grateful for this fleeting glimpse of his unguarded delight.
She watched his gaze shift briefly her eyes following his catching Crystal, the blond that was eyeing her earlier took the chance while she was alone with Cori to creep in and talk to her. The change of Carters face made Tate turn his head “Well shit, he's trying to get up on your girlfriend.” Tate teased, that only got him a sharp glare from Carter.
He watched as Crystal at first politely told him off, even pointing over to him, but the blind only rolled his eyes, turning back to her and stepping closer. Yeah, Carter got up fast. Beth pulled Rip out of his conversation, Turning his attention to Carter, who stormed off in a ‘jealous Beth’ fashion, is how he'd put it. Ryan, Kayce, and Tate were quick to follow Carter, not to stop him, but just in case. The blonde wasn't by himself had about four guys around him as he talked to Crystal. Rip groaned standing up following after the guys.
Carter watched as he got closer the uncomfortable expression on Crystals face, then quick turned into a nasty glare. Her right hand slapping him quickly shoving him back, “What the fuck! You bitch-” the blond hollered standing up just by his stance, Carter knew.
One swift punch before he could put his hands on her, though knocking the blond down he was quick to swing back. Ryan and Colby quick to shove his friends back giving them a warning to back off before they turned to Carter who was on top to the blond landing blow after blow. Crystal covered her mouth to hide a grin, as she backed up letting Carter beat the day light out of this dude. Carter wasn't only the jealous type but protective, really protective. And she liked that, a lot.
“Youre stupid enough to try to put your hands on her!?”
From
“What the fuck did you call her?!”
Yeah, that was Rip right there, Kayce, though. That boy may not have been their blood, but fuck he was so much like them in different ways. Before things got bad Rip and Kayce pulled him off, yelling at first to call down to Rip saying something quite where only Carter could here, before pushing him back towards Crystal.
Crystal was quick to catch him, only for him to turn on his heels, grabing her hand and pulling them out, out to the road away from people. He could hear her voice but what she was saying wasnt going through his ears. Craters adrenaline high his heartbeat heavy in his ears a stubble ring, a harsh tug as his hand mad him stop his eyes meeting hers.
“What- Im sorry I didn't mean to grab you so suddenly I didn't hurt you did I?” he asked motioning to her wrist.
She shook her head a worried look in her eye “Are you okay?” she asked stepping close to him.
“Wha-”
“Are you okay, Carter take a moment, please.” she spoke softly. Her hands grabbed his face, gently holding him.
His hands grabbed her wrist carefully, nodding in her hands, closing his eyes, he took a moment. As Carter took a deep breath, Crystal's eyes looked over his hands. His knuckles were split, he'd hit the concrete a few times, and the guy's face must have been the tough cause, shit, did he look bad sure, Carter had a busted lip and a bruise starting up on his cheekbone. “Good baby, just like that…” she hummed, his touch becoming not as shaky.
Craters eyes opened slowly meeting hers. “I just- he was gonna hit you..” he muttered soon to start a ramble.
“Hey, hey, baby- I'm okay, I'm right here,” she spoke catching his eyes again.
“I know just, he was gonna.”
“And he didn't, you got him before he could.” she reassured, he knew she didn't need a hero or a man to stand behind her. He knows she would have knocked him if she had the time.
She pulled his hand taking him in the direction of her truck, “Do you wanna drive?” she asked.
“Sure..”
“I have a first aid-” she began
“Let's just get out of here, you know, that trail up the mountain a bit; there's a place where we can look at the stars like you wanted. I'll take you,” he spoke, walking with her.
“Lets go then, then ill clean you up can have that shit infected.
The teens were quick to leave, the ride was quiet. Crystal not wanting to irritate him on accident, the man next to her eyes glued to the road seemed to be deep in his own thoughts. So she left him be. Her gaze shifting to the road in front of them, the soft glow of her phone causing her to look down. A few messages from her father, telling her to keep the location on and don't stay out too long. Then Carters phone, a buzz causing her to look over, ‘Mama’ the screen read but he didn’t pick it up. Then ‘old man’ Rip was now calling him.
Carter fliped his phone over his action full of irritation. “Carter you gotta atleast call your mom back.” Crystal spoke quietly.
“I’ll call her back later.” as he was saying that her phone started buzzing.
‘Bethy💗’ she shook her head at the boy next to her who gave her look.
“Hi auntie-“
“give the phone to Carter please baby.” her voice spoke.
He let out a groan before she put the phone to his ear, “Hi mama.”
“You’re lucky I don’t beat your ass, answer the damn phone when I fucking call you.” she hissed.
Crystal could only chuckle as the boy got his ass chewed out by beth. She could hear beth’s tone change after a momment, telling him that she better see him in his bed in the morning and to answer when either of them call. “I love you, be safe.”
“I love you to mama.” he spoke softly before crystal removed the phone putting it back to her own ear.
“We won’t be to late i’ll bring him back in one piece,”
“Okay honey, does you’re daddy know your going to be out late?”
“Yes ma’am,”
“good love you.”
“Love you to.” she responded before hanging up the phone.
looking over she met Carters eyes, he had forgotten how close she was to Beth. Beth had watched her grow up more than she had him, it didn’t bother him maybe it was a good thing though that his parents knew her. That not only they liked her but loved her.
He smiled softly at her, his hand leaving the wheel grabbing her hand in her lap. A silent gesture but one that told her a lot, Carter unfortunatly wasn’t great with words so all he could offer her was a comforting touch. His thumb rubbing over the top of her hand gently, “Thank you.” was all he could say.
“Thank you for what C?” she questioned her fingers playing with his.
He shook his head softly “Just for being here, I enjoy your company. And for not leaving me or being upset.”
She chuckled softly “ Maybe if you haven’t notice I like you, a lot. So i’d hope you enjoy my company just as much as i enjoy yours, and I don’t know why you’d think i’d be upset? You stood up for me carter, not a lot of girl my age can say they’ve had a boy- well a man do that for them. Because believe it or not a lot of guys your age are pussies, and don’t have enough respect to stand up for someone they supposably care for.” she said, her eyes on his hand in her lap.
she smiled to herself “And believe it of not i’m not impressed easily by boys nor can they handle me. There’s very few men in my life that can handle me and my high maintenance, my father is the reason i will never settle for less.”
Carter understood what she was saying, she’s a daddy’s girl through and through and it wasn’t secret that she was favored. Even though he’d only talk with her dad a few times, he was a man, a man that would do anything for his children, a man that understood his children, could give them anything they wanted and not in the spoiled brat way, but he made them earn it. He’d raised them to be humble but to never let anybody talk down to them, to treat others as equal unless they proved they’re not worth your time or respect.
Sure it made Carter nervous, that maybe he couldn’t be what she needed. But he’d learn if needed, he didn’t have a lot of money and was always working, he didn’t have an education. What did he have to offer her. Almost nothing.
“I don’t make a lot of money, and i’m not the best with my words…” He spoke honestly coming to a stop, he watched her gaze shift up to him.
“I’m not worried about money carter, you work your ass off. Sure it’s nice but if that what you think you need to please me your wrong, all i ask for is effort which i’ll feature in full. Communication, that’s something i really think you’ll get ahold of pretty quickly. We’re both busy people our worlds don’t have to necessarily revolve around each other.” she spoke genuinely to him.
Carter nodded, “I just- what if i’m not what you need?”
she pursed her lips “ We can work through it figuring things out and create balance, or maybe it just won’t work out.” she shrugged.
As much as that last part bothered him, it’s how things are. “common let’s get you cleaned up.” she said opening her door.
Carter had brought her to an open area surrounded by trees, the stars and moon could be seen clearly above them. Carter sat on her tailgate waiting for her, First aid in hand she sat on the tailgate next to him. Opening it and getting to work on his hand, whipping away the dried blood and disinfecting the cuts. She was gentle, talking to him trying to distract him from the sting. Her voice soft and comforting, he liked hearing her talk, no matter the tone of her voice.
“Need to get your lip C.” she said looking up at him.
Carter didn’t think much of it sliding if the tailgate and standing in front of her. The light from her truck bed glowing in both of them as she whipped his lip, there was a small split but it had stoped bleeding, she put some vaseline on her finger gliding it across his lower lip. He could feel butterflies in his stoumach from the simple touch.
Looking up Crystal took noticed to Carters gaze, his flushed cheeks and heavy eyes. “There you go baby all done.” she smiled touching his face softly her hands then falling into her lap not leaning back any to create space.
“Call me that again..” he whispered, his hands hesitantly sliding above her knee.
Crystal grinned tilting her head, “Call you what baby?”
“That.”
leaning in a bit “You like it when i call you baby?” she whispered.
Carter nodded his lips grazing over hers, “Use your words baby, I wanna hear you say it.” she hummed her hands grabbing his face.
shaking his head lazily “I do, i like it when you call me baby.”
Crystal grinned pulling him in. Their lips at first not quite moving together but were quick to find a rhythm. Carters hands holding on to her thighs to keep balance, as she held his face her hands moving from his neck her fingers lacing through his hair pulling him closer. A soft groan left her lips as his grip tightened on her thighs as she pulled his hair. The kiss once soft and innocent now needy and messy, her pulling him closer her legs on either side of him, Carters hands holding on her hips tugging at her belt loops to bring her closer. The feeling of her pulling his hair to pull his head back made him groan, her eyes looked over him their breath heavy as she did so. He looked a mess, the mix of brown lip liner and pink tint of her lipgloss smudged around his mouth, his eyes heavy. She giggled to herself at the sight her hands letting go of his hair sliding down to his shoulders.
“What?” He asked leaning in trying to reach her lips again.
“Mmm nothing baby.” She hummed kissing him again smile on her lips.
Her heart fluttered at the way he looked at her his hands brushing against her cheeks softly. “Thought you brought me up here to look at the stars cowboy?” She tease pulling on his waist band.
“Don’t do that.” He said quickly grabbing her hand.
Crystal laughed, “okay, okay won’t! Didn’t think I was bad just trying to pull you closer.”
He shook his head laughing a bit “It’s not that it’s bad but it’s not, just no more-“ he rambled his face flushed.
She laughed “how come?” She questioned, knowing damn well why she shouldn’t pull on his pants like that.
Carter stayed quiet avoiding her gaze, her eyes looking at him through her eyelashes “You know why.” He said kissing the side of her face, letting out a big sigh “we should get going, it’s getting cold.” He spoke picking her up off the tailgate.
Getting into the truck and heading off, Carter was glad that the night wasn't ruined. That in the end it went better than expected.
A/n: Okay this is everywhere I'm sorry lol, I really had no idea how to conclude it but I really am enjoying writing this!

Carter Dutton-Wheeler x oc!Crystal Maverick
3.)Just a Momment!
sum: It’s been days since they’ve been able to hangout, their moments together short and always interrupted. Carter is starting to realize it’s harder to keep to himself than he thought.
warning: tension, story goes through multiple days at a time, cursing, Teens being teens, Carter being a sassy irritated teenager, psa!IM NOT A RODEO EXPERT I J LIKE THE AESTHETIC! Not proofread yet!
Unfortunately, Carter found himself unable to spend time with Crystal the following day or even the day after that. With the ranch bursting at the seams with activities and Crystal busy preparing for the upcoming rodeo, she was unable to use the pin at the barn, which meant she spent hours away from the ranch. The lengthy days dragged on for Carter, each one feeling excruciatingly long as he constantly thought about her. He found himself hoping for a serendipitous encounter with her, even if it was just a fleeting moment at the end of a long day, but luck was not on his side.
Lloyd, ever the observant man, began to pick up on Carter’s distracted demeanor, as did Rip, whose no-nonsense attitude cut through the haze of Carter’s thoughts. Rip would often bark at him to pull his head out of the clouds, his voice a sharp contrast to the gentle nudges from Lloyd, who would remind him, albeit more kindly, to stay focused. Despite their varying approaches, both men recognized that Carter was losing himself in daydreams, a distraction that was becoming harder for him to ignore.
Sunday hit the evening late Carter decide to stay out a bit longer and thank god he did. Crystal had come in with Theo putting him away for the day she must have not noticed him because when he spoke up she jumped startled form his voice. “SHIT CARTER, you scared me!” she screeched laughing a little.
Carter couldn't help but laugh a little himself walking closer to her “ Im sorry did mean to scare ya!” he chuckled watching as she closed the stable.
She shook her head smiling at him, ugh he missed her face and it had only been two days; kill him he thought. The two teens ended up talking for a bit small talk and catching up whenever it fell to silence it wasn't awkward but it felt different as she held his gaze and a lazy smile on her lips. She was exhausted and he could tell she was a bit sore from the way she kept stretching out. Carter helped her feed Theo, telling her to sit down that he could do it that he didn't mind. She talked to him a bit as he walked back and forth throwing hay and feed into Theo's bucket even refilling the horse's water. She laid her back against the stable as she sat on the two small bundles of hay, them standing on the ground enough her feet didn't touch the ground.
Crystal couldnt help but simply admire him his shirt sleeves short giving her a show as his arms flexed picking up the bundle of hay and organizing them after taking one apart. A small smile on his face as she talked to him, Carter listening to everything she said. Her eyes would scan him face when the barn fell silent a little giddy smile on her face as she did so, he was handsome, generous, soft-spoken, and strong. God what was not to like? Carter was so eager to please, eager to please her it seemed. Hands in her lap she smiled up at Carter as he came back out leaning against the opposite stall. “Thank you Carter, really..” She hummed leaning forward her hands form on the hay underneath her.
He stood up a bit straighter watching as she tilted her head teasingly her eyes never leaning his, “ Of course, anything you need Crystal.” he spoke softly a bit nervous.
She grinned, yeah she knew what she was doing. “ Anything I need?” she asked.
Carter nodded his eyes on her watching as she stood up “Hm ill keep that in mind than Carter..” she smiled.
Carter felt the steady thump of his heart echoing in his chest, a rhythm that quickened as he savored the sound of his name as it slipped from her lips. Each syllable was like a gentle caress, wrapped in the warmth of her voice, which was nothing short of enchanting. Her words lingered in the air, weaving a spell that captured his attention entirely, making the world around them fade into a distant blur.
The air around them was thick as she found her was a bit closer to him, he felt so stupid, a girl literally had him at her feet. Whats worse is that she knew it. The moment was cut short with the voice of Rio calling out for Carter, Crystal stepped back quickly giving them space right before her turned the corner into the barn his eyes catching them. “There you are,” his gaze met her Rip giving her a small nod before his attention went back to his son “You need to be up at the house in 10.” was all he said. Crystal noticed a look given to Carter by Rip, Carter rolling his eyes a bit letting out an annoyed sigh after Rip left.
“What was that?” Crystal asked a small giggle stepping toward him. “Nothing just him being… well dad like.” he explained unclearly.
Crystal hummed “well hopefully ill catch you later.” she smiled
“Yeah-”
“CARTER! Lets go!” Rips vouce yelled.
Carter groaned “See you later Cryst” he spoke quickly giving a nod of his hat as sphe ran out the barn.
As the evening dragged on, it became increasingly clear to Carter that something was off. No matter how hard he tried to focus on the conversation, Ril always seemed to interrupt at the most inopportune moments, grating on his nerves. With every interruption, Carter felt his irritation grow. He couldn’t shake the feeling that Rip was somehow orchestrating these distractions, perhaps trying to keep them apart on purpose. If it wasn’t Rip causing the disruption, I was someone else or something else from truly engaging with her.
Carter couldn't help but notice the way she subtly leaned in closer, her playful, flirty demeanor unmistakable. It was as though she was teasing him, inviting him to join in her game. Yet, every time he summoned the courage to flirt back, he found himself stumbling over his words, feeling foolish and anxious instead of smooth and confident. It frustrated him to no end. Just when he thought he could make a clever remark, she would shift closer, her laughter ringing lightly in the air.
“Smooth,” she’d tease, her voice laced with amusement and admiration. The twinkle in her eye made it clear that she enjoyed th way he got nervous, but every time he managed to catch her off guard, it only left him feeling more flustered. The atmosphere grew thick with an unspoken tension. The subtle yet meaningful gestures she made didn't escape his notice. He often caught the gentle brush of her fingertips against his cheek, whether she was wiping away dirt or deftly smoothing his hair. Her hand would occasionally glide over his arm, a light, fleeting contact that sent a shiver through him. And when she laughed, the warmth of her shoulder would lean into his, a silent invitation that sparked a connection between them. Each little touch held a weight of intimacy, weaving an invisible thread that pulled them closer together.
Thursday finally hit, the afternoon sun hot, Carter was sitting under a tree in the yard by himself thinking to himself. “Hey stranger!” Crystals voice startled him out of his thoughts.
“Hi!” he smiled up at her, watching as she sat down next to him her body facing him.
“Hows you're day been cowboy?” she asked leaning back on her hands.
Carter shrugged “been alright, hot as hell though.” he sighed.
She nodded “It very much is, giving Theo break, and me thinkin’ I deserve it!” she laughed.
“So do you, been working your ass off out there.”she hummed.
Carter glanced at her raising a brow “Been watching me ya weirdo!” he teased.
She rolled her eyes pushing him playfully “So what if I am!” she laughed.
“Like the view.” she spoke under her breath.
“What?” Carter asked.
She looked up at him her eyes wide “Hm? Nothing!” she smiled innocently.
Carter scoffed playfully “Youre lying! What did you say!” he spoke turning to her.
Her panicked giggle as he got closer to her him still asking. “I didn't say anything you freak you're hearing things!” she laughed.
“Youre so full of shit-” he laughed, before he could say anything else he was cut off by the voice of Rip calling him back to work.
She watched his face drop, clearly irritated. She smiled softly at him “Looks like you're being summoned Cowboy..” she spoke her hand moving to fix his collar. Carter groaned nodding.
“Yeah, guess my lunch is over.” she sighed getting up, he began to grab his garbage so stopped by Crystal.
“I got it baby don't worry about it, go on head back I'll hopefully see you later.” she smiled at him.
Carter gave her a half-hearted smile, a silent thank you, as he turned away, irritation simmering just beneath the surface—not directed at her, of course, but rather at the constant interruptions that kept catching them. As he made his way to the barn, he paused, suddenly freezing in his tracks. “What did she call me?” he muttered under his breath, realization hitting him in the face. Whipping around, he caught a glimpse of her as she stood, her brother at her side, both of them moving away together.
Turning back, a small grin crept onto his face as the realization sunk, a light flickering in his eyes. “What’s got you all bushy-tailed?” Lloyed chuckled, noticing the shift in Carter’s demeanor, the irritation lifting and replaced by a spark of amusement.
“Nothing.” Carter grinned at the older gentleman walking past him.
Few more days had gone by small comments and few worded conversation were the only thing the two got away with. Then Saturday hit, it was after four o'clock he was off of work as she had put her horse away and started walking out to her trailer up the hill. Would they finally get to hang out?
Catching up to her a quick call of her name ha her turn in her heels quickly. “Hi, Carter!” she smiled watching the boy slow down from running he was a bit out of breath. She stepped close to him patting his chest playfully her hand resting on him “Breath man, breath.” she giggled he hand sliding down his chest, making him shutter nervously.
“Sorry,” he laughed, “but was wondering if you wanted to hang out, not quite sure what we can do, but heard the bunk guys talk about so like street part?”
She tilted her head curiously “Like they play music out in the street, there's food, and other stuff minors are allowed so thought that be fun dress up a bit- not like fancy ya know- nit like a date. Unless you want it to be a date- I don't mind- or we could go just as friends up to you though!” he rambled nervously, his hands moving a bit, soon falling to his head, his head falling as he let out a groan feeling stupid for how he sounded.
Crystal laughed a little leaning down meeting his gaze from rm being hunched over “Are you asking me out Carter?” she smiled.
“Basically…” he muttered.
She nodded “when are we leaving?”
He stood up straight quickly “Is that's a yes?”
She hummed nodding “so when should I be ready?” she asked again.
He smiled excitedly “An hour I can meet you at your trailer!”
“Sound good to me you drivin’ or am I?” she asked stepping backwards slowly with a smile on her face.
“I drive! I can see if I can borrow a-”
“You can drive mine.” she spoke before walking up the hill.
“Okay..” he said softly a grin in his face, he pumped his fist as he stepped backwards twords the house is he could go get cleaned up.
Running up to the house he came in a bit loud catching the attentionof Beth and John. “Hey!” John called out stopping Carter.
“Yes? Sorry didn't mean to come in to loud.” he apologized quickly.
“Where are you heading in a hurry?” Beth asked.
Shit he hadent even asked if he could go out, well here was his chance “I was gonna go get cleaned up, hoping I could go out with the bunk house to town?” he asked.
“Who else is going? Because if it was just the wranglers you wouldn't be getting cleaned up.” she spoke knowing better.
“… Crystal..” he said quietly.
A small smirk appeared on her lips “Go ahead, have fun stay out of trouble. Might see you down there myself.” she spoke.
“If you guys do and Rip ends up coming PLEASE keep him busy he's after me can't talk or even hang out with her without him interrupting.” he groaned dramatically his hands rubbing down hs face.
John let out a laugh “ Rips doing you a favor” the sound of a deep voice came form behind Carter, his gaze looking over meeting Elijahs
“Supprised Mikey hasn't been up y'all ass.” Carter watched his jaw a bit droped as her father talked to him. “But again, he might be doing you a favor kid. My daughter is trouble, not really in the crazy need to keep an eye on her sense, but in honestly she's a flirt; a charming girl and seems like she has you wrapped around her finger.” Mr. Maverick laughed walking towards John and Beth.
Carter stood up “She is.. To be honest myself sir I just asked her in a last minute date… could've been better planed but-”
“You asking my permission?” Elijah asked.
“Well.. I guess so..” He spoke cautiously.
“Go ahead make sure she has fun, she seems to have taken a liking to you I don't kind it I like you. Just don't hurt her because then I'd have to hurt you That, my baby,” he spoke taking a sip of his drink his eyes never leaving the boys to intimidate him. Not that Carter planed on hurting her, her dad just got a lot more scary than when he first met him. At least Mr. Maverick liked him right?
“Yes sir. She's safe with me.”
Elijah hummed “I know.”
Carter nodded turning to go up the stairs ti get ready. He just hoped this night would have any interruptions. Nothing that would keep them from enjoying the night.

Far to Familliar

Severus Snape x Fem!Professor!reader
summary: New year means having to teach sixth years how to brew an Amortentia potion. Personally Severus most disliked potion having to endure the same smell, but this year he smells something different. A familiar smell but different.
warnings: cursing, small age gap(bout 5-6 years), hufflepuff!reader, Maverick is used as a last name(kinda self indulged ofc),
As the end of the first trimester approached, the atmosphere in Hogwarts grew charged with anticipation—and trepidation. For Severus, this marked the dreaded time of year when he had to oversee the brewing of the Amortentia potion. Known for its complexity and emotional fallout, this potion stirred up feelings and reopened wounds he preferred to keep buried. It was a notorious unit for both students and him, as it often led to the revelation of hidden affections and, inevitably, heartbreak.
Severus found himself seated at the long table in the Great Hall, his dark cloak enveloping him like a protective shroud. He mentally prepared himself for the chaotic lessons ahead, bracing for the inevitable array of disastrous attempts at potion-making by the teenagers under his instruction. He could still vividly recall the laughter, tears, and arguments that erupted whenever someone inadvertently exposed their deepest feelings for another through the potion's enchanting aroma.
What troubled him most was the haunting scent of Amortentia itself—an evocative mixture that, over the years, had become inseparable from his own memories of what he could only make out as love. He loathed the bitter reminder of his unrelenting feelings for a woman who had long since departed from his life. The whiff of that potion always transported him back to a time filled with both warmth and sorrow, forcing him to confront the guilt that lingered after her death.
Over time, he had reconciled himself to the inevitable encounters with that familiar trifecta of scents—honey, apple spice, and ginger. Each element was a reminder of both joy and grief, binding him to memories he wished he could forget but could never escape. As he sat there, Severus silently cursed the potion, aware that it would once again peel back the layers of his guarded heart.
The sound of students talking around them echoed through his ears as he rubbed his temples irritably, “Everything alright Professor?” a soft voice asked. Looking up Snape's eyes meet the young Earthology professor's eyes, a concerned look in her eye her brows frowned. He watched her for a moment as she sat down to the right of him, moving her teal dress robs as she did so, once settled she pushed her curls out of her face turning towards him.
“Everything is just fine…” he drawled.
She hummed a small smile had pulled her glossed lips up, “You have to brew the Amortentia, a personal favorite I presume.” she teased.
He scoffed lightly, not in a rude way but humored. “You could say..”
“Well, I hope it goes well. Let me know if you need anything.” she offered.
He expressed his gratitude to her before they both returned to their meals. Severus found himself developing a genuine fondness for the new teacher. Though she had been at Hogwarts for some time, her youthful spirit set her apart among the faculty. The head of Hufflepuff, she was cherished by both her students and peers for her kindness and selflessness. Her capacity for empathy was something he admired deeply.
Severus realized he enjoyed her company more than he often admitted, and he hoped she felt the same. She had a way of gravitating toward him, and it was clear to her that they had formed a friendship. At first, Severus tried to distance himself, convinced that it was best for her. He remembered that day when Dumbledore had asked him to accompany her into the Forbidden Forest to gather a herb she needed for her class. It was during that outing that she had bravely confronted him, wondering if he held a dislike for her since he had been keeping his distance. Those few exchanged words had opened a door to understanding.
In truth, his avoidance had stemmed from a worry that he made her uncomfortable. But after that conversation, everything changed. They began to talk more freely, and soon, he found himself seeking her out for supplies and support, realizing how much her presence brightened his days.
There were moments when they would sit side by side, grading assignments together, and her presence brought a sense of comfort that was hard to describe. Conversations flowed effortlessly, often marked by shared knowing glances that spoke volumes, and a dry, sarcastic humor that only they understood. He cherished how she had a knack for calling him out when he was being unreasonable, as well as how fiercely she defended her students, even when they tested her patience just as much as they did his.
He still vividly recalled the first time she cried in front of him. Concern etched on his face, he gently asked if she was alright, and in an instant, she broke down. With her head resting against his chest, her body trembled with sobs, and he found himself instinctively wrapping his arms around her, holding her steady until she found her breath again. Afterward, he brewed her some tea and patiently listened as she poured out her feelings, offering a supportive shoulder and advice whenever she sought it.
He would always remember how she expressed her gratitude, her words wrapping around him like a warm embrace. Over time, they developed a deep understanding of one another that many would describe as intimate, revealing the strength of their bond in a world that often felt overwhelming.
Manirva would make points to call out their friendship that maybe there was more to it which he’d always brush off. Not because of her, he’d be lying if he said he didn’t have feelings for her. But he couldn’t confess when he smelled another woman in a love potion. He wouldn’t hurt her because he was guilty of being in love with another, and simply what if she didn’t feel the same? There he would simply have ruined a perfect friendship, he enjoyed her company too much to ruin their bond. Not to mention she was significantly younger than him, so why would she waste her time on a grumpy man? Manirva always rolled her eyes at the excuse she was an adult capable of seeing something good, somebody perfect and capable of giving her the things she deserved.
He Wished Manirva wouldn’t put ideas like that in his head, that he allowed himself to think like that. Cause in truth Manirva was right, she was perfect for him, she was extroverted and full of love, she pushed Severus in situations he deemed uncomfortable or not his scene. He’d let her to, god if it was anyone else he would never. He’d never teach students how to dance with another professor, he’d never make small jokes to amuse the people around him. He’d never ask for another’s opinion, or value one opinion as he did hers.
He liked that his dry sarcastic remarked could make her giggle, he loved the sound of her laugh. How her voice would get a bit higher and quicken when she was excited. He did admire her, her warm complexion matching her aura, how she always wore a beautiful smile, how her eyes always remained doe like, how she talked with her hands and body, how she was always so considerate of her students. He’d never admit it but she surprised him when she got upset for the first time at some 5th year boys disrespecting her and her class she scolded them, her voice stern but she never raised it. He liked seeing her like that. The first time she scolded him, his heart beat heavily in his chest he couldn’t help but grin which only made her angrier. How she scoffed glaring at him, soon to storm away.
“What are you grining about Severus.” A voice teased.
“Nothing mind yourself professor Maverick.” He spoke quickly turing his head away from her.
“Boo don’t be like that whatcha thinking about..” She asked again leaning on the table in front of them her body closer to his. God she smelt good, she always did. She wasn’t even that close to him but the smell of fresh vanilla, shea butter, and the strong smell of lilies as if she rubbed their pollen onto herself, She smelt sweet yet floral.
Turning to face her he said “Thinking about how many teens are gonna end up bothered and hurt by the potion they're oh so excited to brew.”
Her jaw dropped “Severus!” she pushed at him. he chuckled lowly “It happens every year also meant one last couple I have to separate in the halls.”
“That's terrible..” she spoke a smile still on her face, Severus only shrugged. The great hall soon began to empty, students headed towards classes. Y/n smiled at him before leaving herself, he watched her as she left her curls bouncing behind her, the satin rob gliding behind her.
As classes began student gathers around Severus as he began to brew the example for them. He wanted to walk them through every step to ensure they will do it correctly. He’d take his time answering questions as she walked them through, soon he’d have them start as he continued. Students would quietly talk amounts them selves asking their professor questions just for clarification. As he started to finish up, he smelled something sweet yet floral. It didn’t smell of honey, apple spice and ginger as it once did.
No, it smelled of Lillies, fresh vanilla and shea butter.. The sweet aroma hitting his nose, Severus stoped blinking hard to collect his thoughts for he’d just stop talking in the middle of instruction. He glanced up noticing the sixth years still looking at him, too bad for going unnoticed. Severus quickly wrapped his lesson up, letting the student to work amongst themselves. Severus couldn’t help how fast his heart was beating, he was in love with her. He wanted to feel relieved, he was even but again where did her feelings lye?
The end of the day came pretty quickly, the lay period of the day being a prep for himself. As he walked though the halls he was stoped by Manirva and Albus “Severus would you be interested in observing Professor Mavericks lecture with us?” Dumbledore asked.
“Now why would I do that?” he questioned his brow raised, he was gonna go but didn’t wanna make it painfully obvious to the women that stood next to the headmaster.
“Oh come, Severus, it gives you something to do. Plus we both know you want to anyway.” she smiled at him.
He merely rolled his eyes at her playful comment as she impulsively grabbed his arm, her enthusiasm radiating like the bright autumn sun. When they finally arrived, a rich, earthy aroma enveloped them, a refreshing scent that had the power to soothe even the most troubled minds. Severus couldn't help but admire her classroom; it felt as if it had been tailored specifically for her vibrant spirit.
The structure resembled an intricate glass greenhouse, the walls primarily composed of crystal-clear windows that showcased a breathtaking view of the winding river and the majestic forest beyond. Sunlight filtered through, creating a warm, golden glow that illuminated the space.
Inside, the room was a beautiful tapestry of agriculture, each carefully arranged without a hint of chaos. Vines hung gracefully from above, their tendrils curling playfully, while vibrant flowers in varied hues added splashes of color to the serene environment. The ceiling, open to the sky, invited nature's elements inside, allowing birds to flit about and the gentle breeze to playfully rustle the leaves. It was a sanctuary of growth and life, reflecting her passion for the natural world and inviting all who entered to take a deep breath and appreciate the beauty around them.
Severus watched intently as she moved gracefully around the classroom, engaging her students with animated gestures and an infectious enthusiasm. She cast warm smiles at the professors seated in the back, momentarily breaking the professional atmosphere with a touch of friendliness. Unlike the customary robes she usually donned, she wore a stunning dress made of satin, a delicate shade that shimmered between cream and soft gold.
The dress featured long, fitted sleeves that hugged her arms elegantly, while the bodice clung to her figure with a tailored silhouette. As it cascaded down, the fabric relaxed and flowed, creating a gentle, flattering silhouette that gave the impression of ethereal movement. The neckline of the dress sat high, framing her face beautifully and stopping just at the base of her neck, while the back was artfully designed with a slight opening that ended just above the bottom of her shoulder blades.
This design revealed a glimpse of the tattoo that adorned her back, piquing Severus’s curiosity. He had often wondered about the size and artistry of it, a mystery he never dared to inquire about. He suspected it spanned a considerable portion of her back, possibly trailing down her arm, yet she had always kept it concealed beneath her robes until now. The dress accentuated her figure perfectly, hugging her torso down to her hips before falling away softly, emphasizing the graceful lines of her shape.
Her long curls, usually cascading around her shoulders, were swept back in a playful yet messy arrangement held together by a simple clip, allowing the full view of her radiant face. In this moment, she appeared both elegant and approachable, a striking image that captivated him as she continued her lesson, lost in her passion for teaching.
“You’re staring Severus.” Manirva whispered a smirk on her lips. He could hear Albus chuckle next to her.
“Quit it.” he hissed, causing the older women to giggle quietly.
The lesson soon came to an end student leaving her class as well as the headmaster and Manirva, the class room seemed to be still. Severus soon approaching her hands fidgeting behind his back.
“What keeps you, Severus?” She asked as the tall man walked towards her.
“Thought we would walk after.” he spoke.
Her eyes roamed over him, taking in every subtle shift in his posture as she noticed a tension in his shoulders that suggested he might be feeling nervous. Her head tilted slightly to the side, her curiosity piqued by the unspoken words hanging in the air between them. "That's all? You seem like you have something more to say?" she inquired, her voice laced with both intrigue and a hint of challenge, encouraging him to reveal what was clearly weighing on his mind.
She sensed an underlying tension in the air but chose not to press the issue. Severus, on the other hand, felt a restless urgency bubbling within him. His fingers itched to reach into his pocket, where the small vial lay hidden, and offer it to her. With a heart full of hope, he silently prayed that she would catch the faint, intoxicating scent that lingered around him. He yearned for the moment of recognition, convinced by Minerva's encouraging words that there was a possibility she could truly see him for what he was. Yet, the thought of disappointment loomed over him like a dark cloud; the very prospect of her not feeling the same way sent shivers down his spine, amplifying his anxiety. It was a delicate balance of hope and fear, one he could hardly contain as he awaited her response.
“Sev— You can talk to me, You seem bothered..” she spoke up.
He took a small breath “Smell this for me would you, need another person to see if the student made this right..” He lied holding a small vile out for her.
Seeing the potion seemed to make her nervous. A noticeable swallow came from her, her poster becoming more straight. “How come not ask Manirva? she’s more skilled in potions than I..” She was, she was nervous.
“Perhaps, but i’m here with you… I take your intellect into consideration.” He spoke carefully, his eyes still watching.
She turned her gaze momentarily, her eyes drawn to the delicate vial nestled in his hands, its contents swirling with a soft pink hue. Slowly, she leaned closer, her intent focus unwavering as she inhaled the potion’s fragrant aroma. It was clear to her that this potion had been crafted with meticulous care, each ingredient harmoniously blended. The scent enveloped her senses—a warm blend of rich sandalwood intertwined with the earthy notes of herbs, creating a symphony of fragrance that felt almost ancient.
There was also a deep undertone of musk, an essence that hinted at secrets whispered and stories untold. As she breathed in, she caught a whiff of old parchment, soaked in ink, evoking memories of dusty tomes filled with forgotten knowledge. Her heart raced slightly as she looked at him, peering through her fluttering lashes, and her voice emerged like a gentle breeze, barely audible yet filled with sincerity. “I say the potion is perfect...” she murmured, the words hanging in the air like a delicate promise.
The two professors stood closely together, the warmth radiating from their bodies creating an intimate atmosphere. In the stillness of the moment, Severus could distinctly hear the rhythmic thumping of her heartbeat, a sound that seemed to echo and fill the space between them. He glanced at her, curiosity etched across his features. “What is it that you smell?” he inquired, his voice low and deliberate, as he sought to understand the sensations that intertwined them in this charged silence.
Her mouth opened slightly only to close for a moment. “I smell sandalwood, musk, mixture of herbs, and old parchment.”
Severus breath became still, his eyes never leaving her. He watched as she moved his hand causing the potion to go towards his nose. “Now tell me..” she spoke her face close to his, “What is it you smell Professor?”
“I smell vanilla, not fresh but sweet vanilla. I smell shea butter and cashmere, and lillie’s like the strong pollen that comes off them.” He spoke watching her expression. Her face seemed to stay still but the smallest twitch of her lip and how her brows raised was enough to show that she was just as relieved as he was.
There was a sense of relief between the two, a quiet relief. The fact the both had held back for so long just to realize they had feeling for each other. No, that they were in love with one another.
“So when were you going to say something..” She asked playing with her fingers.
Snapes brow raised “How could i have been so sure.. I didn’t want to ruin what we had if you didn’t reciprocate the feelings I hold for you.” He said.
She smiled a small snort coming from her “Severus, i fear i was very loud in the way i felt for you… You think all the things the words my actions were casual? just friendly?”
That made his stand up a bit straighter “ Well..” he couldn’t say anything because now that he thought about it she was right. He was just scared.
He covered his face with his hands out of embarrassment, his how could he have been so incompetent. He could hear he soft laugh, the feeling of her fingers peeling his hands off if his face. Greeting him with a warm smile, “Sev no need to be embarrassed, i’m just glad you feel the same.” she spoke out of relief her eyes looking over his face.
Her hands fell from his face to his chest, “May i kiss you?” he asked suddenly.
“Please do.”
His lips met hers carefully, his hands holding her face gently as he kissed her a soft groan leaving her as their lips met. Their lips moved in sync, the kiss anything but quiet he tilted her head back deepening the kiss. Her grip on his robes became tighter pulling him closer to her. Shifting his body he pushed her against her desk. For only a moment they pulled away admiring each other or a seconded. He lifted her a bit so she sat on her desk, his hands readying on the sides of her as she held his face while they kissed. Perhaps it was the heat of the moment, but as soon as her back fell against the wooden desk and things fell off, she really couldn’t care less.
Severus hands felt up her sides as he kissed on her neck, soft moans left her lips the beautiful sounds making Severus forget any self respect he had for himself in the moments. His grip on her dress tighten the sudden sound of buttons poppingcaused him to stop. His eyes met hers only resolving a look of ‘forget it’, so he did pulling her back up in the window behind them he could see her bare back. The tattoo she only seen the top of run down her spin and bleed off into flowers and vines. If he didn’t have any human decency he’d have her right then and there, she slowed her self to be vulnerable with him and that was something he’d never take advantage of.
The sudden knock at the door caused him to drop her leg and pull her up and off the table quickly, a whisper of reparo and her dress was fixed. Straightening them selves up as the door opened the came face to face with Albus and Manirva.
“Hello!— is there anything i could help you with professors?” Y/n choked out clearing her through of a sudden stutter.
The older professors shared a glance to one another a mischievous grin on the two. “Oh nothing Dear just came to see if you and Severus where going to come and join us for dinner.”
God was it already Dinner time, Severus though. They had gotten carried away with themselves. He watched as Manirva walked up to her her hands carefully fixing Y/ns collar and her thumb whipping under her lip.
“Seemes you made a mess of her.”
“Pardon?” the both said to her.
Manirva pointed to her lips “Have to say Severus never thought a dark cherry would look good in you.” she giggled turning on her heels.
The two younger professors looks at one another and needles to say they weren’t gonna get away with it, smeared lipstick, messy hair and rosy cheeks. Not to mention the mess of school work that had fallen from her desk.
shit.
“Well let you clean up, shall we be expecting you for dinner or are you both going to eat in Your Chambers?” Albus hummed and silly grin hidden under his beard.
“uhh- I think we’ll stay in, we’ll see you at breakfast.” Severus spoke up.
“Ahh, alright you two. Remember you both have class in the morning..” Albus said walking towards the door.
The door soon shut, the pair both groaning quietly for how badly they were just caught. The two weren’t ever going to hear the end of it.

Carter Dutton-Wheeler & oc!Crystal Maverick
2.) Supper
sum: Dinner time, and at that Beth stays at the dinner table! Later Carter and Tate show the Twins around.
warnings: cursing, ocs! non-canon story line. And yes Tate is like a year younger than Carter in this.
It didn't take long for Carter to clean himself up after the day's activities, but his thoughts continued to drift away, fixating on the maverick twins who had recently arrived. A spark of excitement fluttered in his chest at the idea of having kids his age nearby. He envisioned adventures and laughter, hoping that this would be a golden opportunity to break free from his days spent at the barn, which often felt like an endless cycle of chores and being bitched at.
He didn't quite understand why he had to be presentable as Beth put it, he'd already met them at his worst. Also wasn't like dinner lasted long at the big table. Drying his hair he walked out of the bathroom, a pair of clothes picked out for him. Nothing fancy but new clothes, to say the least, a new pair of wranglers and and nice dark blue button down.
Carter slipped the clothes on the jeans a bit tight form being new but it didn't bother him, clasping his belt he stood in front of the mirro. If there was one thing Beth was good as was dressing him that's for damn sure, “Thats a nice shirt I dont want to see you wearing it while you work.”
The melodious sound of Beth's voice cut through the quiet room, causing him to abruptly shift his gaze towards the door. He watched as she walked across the room. With a slight furrow in his brow, he nodded his head lightly, curiosity evident in his expression. “Why do we have to clean up?” he asked, his tone a mix of confusion and reluctant acceptance as he followed her with his eyes, taking in her presence as she approached him.
She hummed “Why not? Plus we have guest, I say it's an occasion just to get you in the shower.”
Carter rolled his eyes playfully at her, “Now common want you to be downstairs when they get here.”
“Alright, Mama ill be right down.” he spoke.
With that, he wasn't too far behind Beth coming down the stairs. Carters gaze met Tates who seemed a bit annoyed, per usual. Tate moved himself from his mother quickly going to Carter, “What has you in a mood?” Carter asked chuckling a bit.
Tate shrugged his shoulders “Tierd and who knows how this dinner is gonna end.” he sighed, Carter giving a small nod of understanding. Dinner as the Dutton family table was bound to go bad, or some time of shit would be stirred up.
A knock quite knock at the door caused the boys to look up, “Look who finally made it.” John chuckled bringing Elijah into a friendly hug.
“Hey an invite is an invite my friend.” Elijah’s deep voice laughed.
Carters’ eyes wandered around the room, searching for the twins. After a few moments, they finally entered, exchanging quick hellos and warm hugs with John, their cheerful energy lighting up the space. It didn’t take long for Carter’s gaze to land on her. As their eyes locked, a spark of recognition passed between them. She held his gaze, a small, inviting smile playing on her lips. Carter soon found himself returning her smile, a flutter of excitement stirring in his chest as he felt the familiar warmth on his cheeks.
As everyone entered the dining room, they were quickly ushered to their seats. The arrangement leaned towards separating the adults from the kids, with John taking the head of the table. Beth and Elijah flanked him, while Kayce and Monica sat beside Mr. Maverick. Tate and Mikey joined them on one side, while Carter, Crystal, and her friend Coraline sat with Beth and Rip on the other side. The seating created a clear divide, allowing for lively conversations among the different age groups.
Carter felt a warm sense of relief when things took this turn; it opened up a great chance for him to get to know her a bit more hopefully.
The table radiated warmth and connection, with Elijah engaging thoughtfully in conversation with the adults, especially Beth and John. Meanwhile, the kids shared their own world of chatter, filled with innocent laughter that seemed to linger in the air. Silly jokes and playful teasing bounced between the twins, creating a joyful atmosphere. It was heartwarming to discover that Beth had once babysat the twins, and that Tate had fond memories of their friendship, It had just been a few years since they'd seen each other.
Carter watched Crystal as she engaged with the group, a gentle warmth in her smile that seemed to light up the room. He took a moment to appreciate her features up close, feeling a sense of compassion for the kindnes and energy radiated in that moment. His eyes traded her facial features, her wide eyes and long lashes, the stubble amount of makeup she wore, the slight dimmple in her cheeks as she smiled, her lips lined and glossy with a slightly pinkish tint.
Carter was brought out of his gaze being kicked by Tate, a stupid knowledge ng grin on his face teasing Carter silently. Carter let out a hushed ow only scowling at his cousin as he rubbed his shin.
“Are you okay?”
His face looked as hers, their eyes meeting once again, he nodded a quiet “Yeah I'm fine.” leaving his lips. Her features softening hearing him grunt in an uncomfortable manner.
She looked at him a bit longer before speaking up again “Do you wanna go for a ride after dinner?” she asked quietly as if only to ask him.
“Like horses?” he stutterd quietly.
“No, on our bikes— yes the horses you doof!” she laughed softly,
Carter found him myself smiling out of embarrassment, god that was stupid he thought of Corse she was talking about horses. He glanced at her “Yeah if have to ask I don't really have my own horse ya know?”
She nodded “Gives me time to change into some jeans.” she smiled.
Carter nodded softly, a smile playing on his lips, before he and Crystal parted ways. The sun hung low in the sky, casting a warm glow over the fields as they made their plans to meet at the old barn later that afternoon. Carter felt a flutter of uncertainty in his chest; he wasn't sure whether it would be just the two of them or if Crystal intended to bring her brother and a friend along for the ride.
Regardless of who would be there, the thought of it sent a thrill through him. When Rip had agreed to let him go, Carter’s excitement bubbled over. He wasted no time excusing himself, feeling a burst of energy as he dashed toward the stables.
Gripping his hat tightly in one hand, he sprinted across the yard and down to the barn, his heart racing and breath coming in soft gasps. As he approached the barn, he began to slow down, the familiar scent of hay and leather wafting toward him, mingling with the cool evening breeze. The anticipation of what lay ahead filled him with a sense of warmth and eagerness.
There she was, well not just her. Tate, Elijah and Coraline were all with her as the saddled their own horse. “Took you long enough.” Tate spoke up throwing his saddle on to lucky.
“Sorry had to double-check that it was okay for me to come along.” Carter apologized, his eyes shifted to Crystal her usual smile already wide.
“It’s alright, I’m glad you’re able to come!” She exclaimed.
Carter couldn't suppress his grin as she exclaimed with excitement, "Of course you’re thrilled he can come." Mikey teased, taking the opportunity to poke fun at his sister. She shot him a quick glare, her eyes narrowing, and then swatted at him playfully, mickey letting out a little squel as he jumped back.
The group of teens finished adding their horsed and had moved out the the main field. Tate had suggested they go down to the small river, Carter was against the idea but that meant they would be riding back in the dark. Insted it would be a shortish ride to a small group of cattle was and back. the summer air was stil warm it was nice as the rode, Crystal taking the liberty of riding next to carter as they rode.
Her eyes watched him as he pointed out things and told her what was over the mountains, little did he know she already knew but let him continue talking. The joy in his voice as he described the view up the mountain and the spots they would settle to take breaks during the day. Crystal could tell he enjoyed this job, her focus on him as he talked. when carer took a momment he looked over at her, “What? Why are you looking at me like that?” he asked laughing a bit nervously.
She sat up quickly, laughing softly with him flusters she was caught lacking the way she was. “Nothing! Sorry I can just tell you love the job.” she spoke up.
The teens watching them exchanged soft, knowing smiles as they observed the lively conversation between the two. It was undeniable that there was a special connection, a spark that seemed to brighten their surroundings. Mikey could sense how his sister’s heart fluttered at the thought of it. He felt a mix of hope and concern, aware that this could lead either to something wonderful or a difficult situation. Yet, he knew it wasn’t his place to step in.
He and Corline couldn’t help but enjoy seeing how animated Crystal became whenever she spoke about him. She cherished every sweet moment, every shy laugh, and his endearing, awkward charm. He was not just good-looking and diligent; they shared passions and interests that made their time together feel effortless. With the summer stretching ahead of them, crystal was filled with anticipation, imagining how close they might grow in the following months. There was a world of possibility waiting for them, and she couldn’t help but dream about what could blossom between them.
They all eventually made it back to the barn puting everything away for the night, goodnightsexchanged between the teens. “hey ill be a minute.” Crystal spoke up still putting Theo away to Mikey and Coraline the two nodded as they headed out to the trailer. Well Mikey was staying up at the house with Tate Tonight the two boys wanted to catch up.
Her gaze started to linger on Carter for a moment he focused on putting things away, and she leaned her back up against the stall watching him a little longer before he found her eyes. “ Hi, sorry just strightinging things up so the mornings easier for me.” he said rubing his neck nervously.
She laughed softly pushing her body off the stall “It's okay, Do you not sleep up at the house?” she asked a small tilt of her head. She watched as Carter's feet shifted nervously, a grin tugging at her lips as she stepped closer to him.
“Is there anything I can help with?” her body was finally close enough to him that he was very much visibly nervous.
“Heh well not anymore theres hay and water in their stalls so theyre good for the night,” he spoke fiddling with his fingers. “It was fun hanging outwith you tonight.” he spoke up his voice quick.
She smiled “ It well had to do it again you work full days on weekends?” she asked taking in that tomorrow was Friday.
Carter shoo his head “ No i dont.”
“Good maybe we should head down to the river Saturday afternoon then! really want to go swimming!”
“well there is a lake we can ride to from here, its our neighbors, the nice ones they let kids us it, its no normally occupide cause its private propperty so sometimes they guys will go and swim in it.
She nodded “sounds fun we should do that then!”
The two exchanged warm smiles, acknowledging their plans for Saturday. Both felt a rush of excitement at the thought of spending time together again. They stood in silence for a moment, unsure of how to continue the conversation, but it didn’t feel awkward. Instead, their smiles lingered, and the shared eye contact created a subtle tension that added to the depth of the moment.
Crystals lips parted slightly he voice barely ablove a whiser “ Goodnight Carter, Ill see you in the moring make sure t sleep well.” her body stepping twords him their bodies close enough she could hear his heart beat fast and heavily, not that hers wasnt doing the same.
“Goodnight Crystal, Sleep well.” he spoke softly, soon watching as she walked out the barn. At the door she turned aroud giving him a final smile and wave before rushing off to her trailer.
Carter grabbed his chest feeling his heart beat heavy he felt sick but in a good way. He didn't know how to describe it, he groaned to himself. Why did hefeel like this he barely Knew her. Sure he hasnt interracted with women besides Teetr and Beth but they didnt count. He smiled to himself throwing his body up his eyes meeting Rip, Rip standing there watching him get all giddy like a girl.
“Shit! You scared me.” he said panicked, how much of that did he see he thought.
Rip hummed his eyes harsh as usual “ Dont be messing with her and getting yourself into any troube.”
“I wont sir, I dont hav any bad intentions shes nice is all…” carter mummbed.
Rip only shook his head he knew better, hell he was running aroung with thefarmers daugher for years. “ Im just saying, You better get yourself to bed. Goodnight.”
Carter nodded “Goodnight”
Carter listened carefully to Rip's concerns, understanding the weight they carried. Still, he couldn’t help but feel a flicker of hope amidst the worries. What was the worst that could happen? With a gentle smile, he reassured himself that he really wanted to embrace this new feeling. He had never experienced anything quite like it before and was eager to explore it further. In the depths of his heart, he believed that sometimes, stepping into the unknown could lead to something good.

Carter Dutton-Wheeler & oc!Crystal Maverick
1.) Miss Mav
sum: June had finally started meaning people would be coming and going from the ranch. Carter was excited to watch cowboys come and go from the ranch. Little did he know he’d be meeting a family friend that would be staying for the summer. The bunkhouse quickyly giving him shit for his little girl crush, little did he know just how close this family friend was.
warnings: cursing, Orginal characters! non-canon storyline! Not thoroughly proofread.
The sun had not yet begun to rise, casting a soft, dusky light over the rugged mountain peaks, but Carter was already awake and preparing for the day ahead. The scent of coffee mingled with the aroma of sizzling bacon wafted through the air as the bunkhouse came to life. The morning air was filled with a quiet anticipation, and conversations were just starting to bubble up among the occupants. Carter moved through the small, cluttered space, collecting his thoughts and his breakfast. He glanced at his bunkmates with a hint of amusement. Teeter was playfully flirting with Colby, herthick accent ringing out like a bright chime, while Colby, his cheeks flushed with joy, grinned from ear to ear, clearly enjoying the attention. In another corner, Lloyd and Ryan were engaged in their usual banter, teasing Jake mercilessly as they sipped their steaming cups of coffee. Carter couldn’t help but chuckle at their antics, feeling a warmth in his chest as camaraderie filled the room.
The atmosphere shifted slightly as Rip made his entrance, his presence commanding immediate attention. A hush fell over the bunkhouse as everyone turned to see what was planned for the day. He moved purposefully, and when he reached Carter, he offered a reassuring pat on the shoulder. It was a simple gesture, yet it spoke volumes about their relationship. Carter met Rip’s gaze with a grateful smile, in many ways, Rip had become more of a father to Carter than his biological dad ever was. With every shared moment and every word, Rip had given Carter a sense of belonging and support that he had longed for. As the day began to unfold, Carter felt a deep sense of gratitude for this second chance ata life.
“Alright, well be having people coming in today I need bout, four stalls cleaned and set up,” he spoke up his gaze shifting to Carter as he said the last part. “We have family coming in needles to say, some of y'all know 'em and some of ya will just be meeting them. They're guest of Mr. Dutton treat them with respect.” he finished off the team nodding.
Carter cast a wary glance around, trying to gauge who was approaching. Rip had just wrapped up giving orders, and one by one, the others began to disperse, their footsteps echoing against the ground. With a sense of purpose, Carter moved to the stable, quickly getting to work on saddling the horses. As he tightened the girth and adjusted the stirrups, the distant rumble of a truck engine broke the stillness, its sound growing louder as it drew nearer. Finally seeing the truck it wasn't just one but two, two GMCs pulling horse trailers, one black, the other white. He let out a low whistle at the nice trucks. His eyes wandered curiously his gaze being shaped away hearing Rip yell at him.
“Boy! I need them stalled cleaned, get on it!” Rip hollered getting off his horse.
Without a moment's hesitation, Carter made his way directly to the stalls. The air was thick with the earthy scent of hay and the faint sound of rustling hooves. He rolled up his sleeves, he began to clear away the old bedding, gathering clumps of straw and manure into a wheelbarrow. The warmth of the sunlight filtering through the open barn door cast a golden hue on the wooden beams as he meticulously cleaned each stall, ensuring that everything was fresh and tidy for the animals that would stay in them. He heard the unfamiliar voices of people talking, the sound of hoves entering the barn getting louder before he stepped out of the stall. He Came face to face with a teenage boy his age, an older guy and Rip, bringing in three horses.
“This is Carter, he's mine,” Rip spoke half introducing him.
“Hello.” Carter smiled at the two.
“Hey! I'm Micheal, you can call me Mikey.” the younger boy introduced himself shaking Carter's hand. Mikey was pretty tall bout six feet like himself, he was black, his hair short clean fade on the sides but a hat backward on his head covering the small pit of hair he had on top. He seemed to be pretty strong a tone build not too skinny but a bit smaller than Carter. He wore a black tee shirt with a logo that Said ‘Maverick ranches’ inside a star, and some washed-out wranglers and boots.
“I am Elijah Maverick, his father. Thank you for cleaning up for us we got two other horses to bring in.” he smiled shaking the boy's hand. Now that was a big Man. He easily made Carter nervous though he was nothing but kind and even smiled at him, He was taller than his son and Rip maybe bout six-three, a dad-built with huge shoulders and arms he was muscular, to say the least. The Tan button-up shirt his sleeves rolled up with a different logo that Said Maverick Ranch kind of reminded him of the top gun logo but kinda different, but it was black showing the tattoo sleeves on his arms.
“Its a pleasure to meet you guys, do you need help with the other horses.” Carter asked wanting to be helpful.
Elijah let out a small chuckle at his eggness “No its alright, My daughter and her friend are out on them helping your cowboys for fun.” he spoke shaking his head.
He had a daughter? He thought meeting Mikeys eyes he asked “She older?”
Mikey scoffed “ She’ll tell you she is but only by like— seven minutes.” he rolled his eyes.
“Shes your twin? Wow that's cool.” Carter grinned.
“You could say” Mikey smiled, “you ride man?”
Carter nodded “Nice maybe you could show us around a bit haven't been here since we were kids.” Mikey explained.
“Sure id love too, but I don't get off till later this evening.” Carter shrugged.
“Hey no worries! We got some work to do, my sister in ropeing this summer so we got errans to run.”
She Ropes! The phrase hinted that she might rodeo a bit. The conversation between the three faded, and they stepped outside, with Carter trailing closely behind. He strolled toward the fence, where he could see them skillfully herding the cattle. His attention was immediately captured by an impressive all-black gelding, which glided smoothly across the landscape. Sitting atop the horse was a dark toned girl whose long, mixed-color braids of different browns and blonds were woven into a single, thick braid thatmoved as she maneuvered with practiced ease. She commanded the horse effortlessly, guiding the cattle with precision. She wore of a snug pink t-shirt with a Maverick Ranch logothe shirt highlighted her curved frame, paired with light-washed boot-cut True Religion jeans that hugged her legs comfortably. A pair of boots on her feet, complementing the rugged ensemble. Cinched around her waist was a stylish belt, adorned with a gleaming buckle—perhaps a trophy from a recent victory.
As Carter's gaze shifted to her face, he couldn’t help but notice how striking she was. A wide, radiant smile lit up her features, radiating confidence as she worked the herd. Her youthful appearance was enhanced by several piercings; both nostrils and ears displayed shimmering gold jewelry that suggested a sense of maturity. On her head was a light tan felt hat, which she adjusted with a quick flick of her hand as she turned to listen for her name being called in the distance.
“Well shit miss. Mav you can cowboy better than Jake here!” Lloyd complimented the young girl.
Her laughter bubbled up, bright and infectious, and it brought a small, genuine smile to Carter's face.
“Crystal, mere!” he heard a deep voice say next to him.
She quickly made her way over the fence, “Hi daddy!”
“Hi baby, wanna intriduce you to Carter, take it you met some of Rips new boys.”
She hummed nodding her head “But this is Carter, he Beth and Rips kid.” he spoke.
Carter watch as she raided a brow “They took me in.” he spoke up clearing her confusion.
“Ohhh- that makes a bit more since, Nice to meet you Carter! I'm Crystal, how old are you?” she asked quickly.
“Im 16 turn 17 in july.” he said.
“Nice! Bit older than Tate.” she spoke.
Her head looked over her shoulder again “Sorry I started helping them wanna finish up before I come out! But again it's nice to meet you good to know there are kids our age here so I wo t be stuck with those old farts.” she giggled motioning towards Lloyd and Jake.
He nodded “No worries I get it I gotta get back to work myself, nice to meet you Ma'am.”
She flashed him a radiant smile one final time before returning to her work, a gesture so warm and genuine that it felt contagious. Carter couldn’t help but feel the corners of his mouth tug upwards into a grin. The brightness of her expression seemed to light up the room, and perhaps it was a tad too apparent, as he caught Lloyd’s gaze across the space. Lloyd was watching him with a knowing chuckle, the corners of his lips twitching in amusement at Carter's unintentional display of infatuation.
“Don't let that sweet smile fool you, kid; she's quite the handful,” Elijah chuckled, a glimmer of mischief dancing in his eyes as he warned the young boy. His heart swelled with love for his daughter, a whirlwind of energy who had a delightful knack for turning the ordinary into the extraordinary. With her vibrant personality, she commanded attention wherever she went—her laughter rang out like a cheerful melody, and her outgoing nature was unmistakable.
Though her smile was disarmingly charming, Elijah knew that beneath that veneer lay a fierce spirit capable of surprising even the hardiest of souls. Her words often spilled forth without hesitation, and it was her fearless confidence that sometimes left adults taken aback. She could rope and ride with an expertise that rivaled seasoned cowboys, effortlessly outshining those who had spent years honing their craft. Every time she mounted her horse, it was as if the wild spirit of the West surged through her veins, and Elijah couldn’t help but beam with pride at the audacity and joy with which she embraced life.
“Common miss. Mav shows em whatcha got.” Walker spoke.
Carter's mind drifted as he pondered the unusual nickname, "Miss Mav." The curious title echoed in his thoughts, leaving him with a sense of intrigue. He couldn't help but wonder about its origin and what it revealed about her character. Yet, he decided to put that question aside for now, focusing instead on the moment at hand.
As the sun dipped below the horizon, casting a warm golden glow across the landscape, the day began to draw to a close. The Mavericks had ventured out for a while, promising to return later, leaving behind a lively atmosphere in the bunkhouse. Inside, the boys gathered, their laughter echoing off the wooden walls as they shared stories and teased one another. Teeter, seemed particularly taken with Crystal, affectionately referring to her as “my girl.” The friendly ribbing continued as they playfully jabbed at Jake, tasing that the young girl had outdone him in their cowboy activities that day.
Carter still curios he was still a bit out of the loop regarding the Mavericks. When he inquired about them, Lloyd took the opportunity to share tales of their impressive ranch located up in Oregon, not quite as expansive as Yellowstone, but substantial nonetheless. He painted a vivid picture of the Tillamook area, where the Mavericks cultivated a diverse array of animals—goats, chickens, and horses. This conversation reignited the question that had been lingering in Carte's mind,.
“Why do you guys call her ‘Miss. Mav’?” he asked.
Lloyed chuckled “Just respect really, a nickname that has been with her for years. She was a bossy thing when she was younger and hung around here. Shit I mean she still is. They call her that in the rodeo to just kinda stuck Mr. Dutton started it really.” he finished.
Carter nodded, his gaze drifting away from Lloyd, his thoughts lingering on their recent interaction. He recalled the moment when she was putting her horse away, a vivid picture in his mind. Her spirited chatter had flowed effortlessly, yet he couldn't shake the feeling that he was being scrutinized, as if he were in the hot seat. The way she tilted her head, a delicate movement that drew attention to the soft curves of her features, captivated him. Her eyes, bright and intent, locked onto his with a piercing focus, making him acutely aware of every word he uttered. An unsettling mix of nerves and intrigue bubbled within him, leaving him both breathless and contemplative.
He watched her as she bikers with her horse as one would with a person made him laugh, “Why do argue with him like he can understand you.” Carter asked laughing a bit and closing the stall as she stepped out.
“Hes like a giant dog who has no manners.” she scoffed glaring at her horse.
He chuckled a bit watching the horse wander around the unfamiliar stall before sticking his head out and going for her hat. Crystal quickly grabbing her hat from him, “Can you not! Can't you see in having a conversation!”
Her horse shook his head almost in a mocking manner “Take it he's a handful when y'all aren't actually showing?”
“Handful is an understatement Theo is a Boy dog with leg extensions.” she laughed a bit.
Their eyes met, “so whatcha doing tonight Carter?” she asked putting her hand behind her back.
Carter scracthed his neck nervously as she stepped a bit closer to him, “Well.. Uh nothin much, just plan on turning in for the night having dinner with my family tonight.”
She hummed “ Ouu sounds fun so ill see you at dinner then! Maybe after-”
“Cryst! Let's go!” Mikey yelled into the barn, his voice stopped quickly seeing them close.
“Hey! You leave that poor boy alone!” Mikey yelled.
Her head shaped over to her brother scoffing “Shut up Michael! Can't I have friends!” she finish shoot ping her hands up in a shrug expression.
“Carter run while you can!” he spoke, a small playful scream leaving him as he quickly ran back as he saw his sister start to move towards him.
She looked back quickly waving at Carter and smiling at him “Bye Carter I’ll see you at dinner!” she spoke quickly before turning back and running out of the barn.
Coming back out of though he laughed a bit to himself his eyes looking up meeting Ryans. He sat up quickly looking around “ What?” he asked.
“Oh nothing, just watching you smile to yourself over there like a lil weirdo.” Ryan spoke shrugging his shoulders.
“What no! Am I really?” he asked quickly.
“Ye’ yet are” Teeter grinned, “Thinkin’ bout’ lil miss Mav huh?” Teeter spoke to the boy.
Carter shook he head standing up “No its not like that, just not used to talking to kids my age and having some around is nice..”
Lloyd hummed mockingly “mmhmm, Thats why you waited a hole hour after just to unsaddle her horse.”
“I was being nice.”
The bunkhouse erupted into a chorus of laughter, the sound echoing off the wooden walls. A playful teasing filled the air as the boy, his cheeks flushed with a mix of embarrassment and delight, exchanged glances with his obvious crush. It was to early to say he had any actual feelings toward her but he'd be lying if he said he didn't grin when thinking about her.
The bunkhouse fell to a hush as Beth entered the house, “Baby lets go we have guest tonight.” she spoke motioning to him.
Carter looked back at everyone “Not a word..” he mouthed, the cowboys only laughing lowly as he left.
Getting in Beths car she looked over at him. “I need you to take a shower when we get up to the house okay? Gotta be a bit presentable.” grabbing his head kissing the side of it, “You smell like horse shit.” she smiled before starting the car heading up to the house.
This was bound to be an interesting dinner.
