I can see how that would be a mega problem, I mean, RWBY itself did this because "wouldn't that be cool?" Is an *insane* lure if you enjoy characters based off cool ideas but that leads to a shitload of characters and not enough spotlight for all of them

That said, I think RWBY Evermorrow does a spectacular job with what it has, Team CRDL being fleshed out into real human beings, team RWBY having their own complex issues (Yang's imposter syndrome with strength, Blake still being in the kitty closet, Ruby not be assertive as a leader in the face of Cardin, Weiss in the last episode feeling the full weight of who she was and no actually, telling one faunus you're sorry doesn't undo all the shit you and your family did), JNPR being pushed to the side is *good shit* let the breath as side characters!

I can't wait to see what the creator does with OPAL, honestly what they laid out for Illia and Alice was so fucking fun and refreshing.

Evermorrow is like a cautionary tale of story scope-creeping beyond your means.

So it's like... the main girls upgrade to second year, so we'd have new first years, right? That sounds like a good place to introduce some of the characters that would otherwise be omitted - if we bend the rules we can get some of the loveable post-beacon cast in there! That sounds like a lot of fun!

But like... you actually have to do stuff with them, so you do. And when you do, people complain that they're getting too much focus even though they weren't in the last three episodes.

And then you have a neat idea for an episode and how to tie the main girls and the new team together a bit more... then people complain the new team are getting too much focus again. But if you scale back, people complain that they're there for no reason.

All to say... EM is a valuable learning tool for when/if I make an original thing. It helps you put your means in perspective, it helps you realise just how easy it is to fall into the pit of Character Bloat Because You Had A Fun Idea. I think it best to maybe focus on 4-5 characters in all, and everyone else is supporting cast, instead of like... 12 main characters lmao

Ruby has to be an artificer, that isn't up for debate. Maybe she's a battlesmith and Penny is her golem.

Weiss is a sorcerer, old school bloodline and all that, maybe silver or white draconic

Maybe I'll do JNPR, we'll see

Still a wip, but her design is more based off Roman armor aesthetics as a contrast to the Greek influence of her original.

In this au she is Beacon's greatest huntress, a shining protector and testament to their values. Somethings off about her though.
