This International Women's Day, we could not conduct a rally due to the COVID19 norms. A week long Workshops on Womens Rights, importance of Gender Equality and breaking Gender Stereotypes were organised at the centres. Today the workshops were concluded by letting our participants paint, draw and sketch to bring their emotions and thoughts out on a paper. We have dozens of pictures but sharing a few with you. Dear Friends, Hand stitching, hand sewing has been part of daily culture for hundreds of years. Every where it has been different. One most practical training at Sambhali is hand Embroidery, motifs and color of threads are chosen by the participants but the skill and design is taught by a professional trainer. An exercise some love because of the concentration, patience and self expression. Once the panel is ready, it is carefully glued in a file which our participants get to keep as memory from sambhali they earned. We hope you like these pictures. Do you embroidery? Dear Friends, it is an appeal, the Sambhali Boutique downtown Jodhpur had to close down due to Covid19. Somehow we manage the store at our office and trying to find employment for some of the women at Graduates Sewing centre. These participants depend on regular income and for this we need to be able to sell their handicrafts. We do tailor made orders, they are 100%ethical and each product is made with love. Every product sold has a signature, story and dream related to it. Sometimes our Western audience and visitors coming from bigger cities were amazed and surprised how our participants were learning; how fabric was measured by hands and cutting of patterns done on the floor. Sharing some pictures with you from today taken at our centres to show you the circumstances and no compromise with the productivity of the participants. They are simply brilliant. We have noticed the traditional methods and sitting arrangements chosen by the participants is convenient and gives them the feeling of equality. We have tried hard with providing fabric cutting tables, providing pins and needles but it just does not work with a lot of them. Sambhali Trust reopened it's Empowerment Centres for Women and Adolescent Girls on October 1st 2020 as soon as the lockdown started to getting flexible. Many of our participants rejoined, a lot of then left for their native homes and a few couldn't come back because the transportation was not available. During lockdown violence against women and children had raised very much. Sambhali got interviewed twice by the BBC on such matter and many other newspaper interviews were published. Sambhali polished it's existing toll free helpline by hiring experts to deal with the cases and allowed any women to come to the centres and our office for few hours a day following the social distance guidelines. This opportunity gave women a break from the traumatic lifestyle at home and brought them positivity and strength to fight for justice and for what's right. Slowly life is going to the "New Normal" and so are the projects. We want to thank you for standing by Sambhali Trust and for believing in our decisions. The venue of a project, enrollment of its participants, project implementation, syllabus are all on need and demand basis. Our centres are usually on the door step of our participants. The Trust provides holistic approach for the development of its participants at a grassroots level. Women are trained in sewing and embroidery skills, offered primary education in english, hindi and maths, participants are given general knowledge workshop once a week, above all a place for them to grow inside and unite with women in similar circumstances.
