i think taka has a really good point when it comes to geniuses. most of the time, geniuses are referring to people who were born with supernatural intelligence or abilities. in taka’s case, he’s a strong believer of effort, which geniuses never need to do. effort is to taka that hope is to nagito, just a little (a lot) less extreme. speaking of nagito, someone like him was born with his talent, it’s something he didn’t have to work for, taka would have hated him. that’s also probably why he resonated with mondo so much, because mondo worked immensely hard to get where he is, just like him. being a genius isn’t beneficial, because most of the time they don’t add anything to society. you might argue that someone like albert einstein added a hell of a lot, but he wasn’t born gifted, so it doesn’t count as takas understanding of a genius. you probably haven’t even heard of the smartest person ever to walk the earth, william james sidis, was born gifted, but did nothing with his talents and died alone, his story is actually really sad. so yeah, taka’s exactly right.
