The comic page, for anyone interested
Finally found the snippet of the Kirby's Dream Land 3 manga with Professor Hector & R.O.B., except there isn't any fan translation of it online that I could find

Being a R.O.B. fan has ruined me because I read this trophy and all I can think is "okay clearly R.O.B. rubbing off on one of the Hands" because this marketing strategy gives me very strong R.O.B. vibes.

Truck Freak Tag page is now live. Past fighters have been moved to the new page.
Since the current page for tags that's up is labeled "Important Tags", I hesitate to add all these characters to the page as it is now. As a potential solution, I'm considering making a new "Truck Freak Tags" page for tags that are part of a more specific niche, such as characters that appear in a fighter's moveset/Taunts/Smash Taunts (such as Viridi or Cappy), or Master Spirits (such as Funky Kong or Beedle).
The problem is I worry that I'll get carried away trying to do too much of this. Because while some characters get a decent amount of tag usage (Sandbag, Viridi, Funky Kong, Arceus), other characters are "every individual Final Smash exclusive Dragon Quest Hero" or "I'm grouping the Subspace Army-exclusive enemies under a single tag because the list of enemies is too long and tagging them all is too complicated even by my standards" or "yeah I guess Unira counts as a character".
I haven't even written down the Poke Ball summons or stage element characters yet.

Master Hand is usually the one in charge of training the Pokemon since he has an easier time not drawing attention than Crazy Hand, who still tends to stick out even when in disguise. Due to the existence of move tutors and his own ability to easily adjust stats and mechanics in the Smash Bros. universe, though, he doesn't typically train them beyond what's necessary to evolve them, so they tend to be fairly low level (hence why the event distribution SSB4!Greninja is still only at level 36).

I think Goldeen was based on Misty's in the anime which uh
Couldn't really do shit out of water
In Smash it's useless even outside of water kdghdsj
Future Smash game that adds water that doesn't kill you and suddenly Goldeen becomes a huge threat when summoned

Pokemon-related Smash Bros facts (not just the fighters):
The summonable legendary/mythical Pokemon that have returned in every Smash Bros. since their debut are Moltres, Mew, Entei, Suicune, Lugia, Latias & Latios, Kyogre, Deoxys, Palkia, Giratina, Darkrai, Arceus, Victini, Kyurem, Keldeo, Meloetta, Genesect, Xerneas, and Marshadow.
Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise were all summonable prior to Brawl, the game which Pokemon Trainer (Red) first appeared in.
Dialga is the only member of the Pokemon of Myth (or the creation trio) to not be summonable via Poke Ball, instead being exclusive to the Spear Pillar stage.
Palkia is the only member of its trio to use its signature move, Spatial Rend.
Giratina appears in its Altered Form, meaning whatever qualities are within the Distortion World (and the Griseous Orb/Griseous Core) that allows Giratina to transform is not present in the Smash Bros. universe. (Unless there's something weird with the stages it can't be summoned on.)
The strongest Pokemon spirit in Ultimate (by stat total at Lv99) is Deoxys.
The Pokemon that have been present for the entire Smash Bros. series, fighter and Poke Ball summons, are Pikachu (unless you go by the Melee Pichu->Brawl-Ultimate Pikachu headcanon), Jigglypuff, Goldeen, Mew, and Snorlax. Meowth is the only Pokemon introduced in Smash 64 that got removed only to return later (it got removed in Melee and then returned for Brawl onward).
In Smash, Goldeen's move is Splash, even though it can't use Splash in Pokemon.

He'd also have shoes similar to Ash Ketchum's from the Indigo League era. This is because he is an anime nerd.

If Master Hand had a humanoid form he'd give it a cape bigger than he is. That he would constantly wrap around himself or hide behind. Trust me this is fact.

The ship that Olimar flies in his final smash is sentient
Tumblr media
There are so many fucking characters in this series dude
Like, an actually ludicrous amount of characters
I planned on adding a misc character category to the tag list for characters like Sandbag, Smash Taunt exclusives, etc etc. And now I'm realizing that I have yet to add Pokemon assists, or background characters, or spirits because not only do master spirits interact with you but also spirits like Lapras do. And enemies in SSE, Smash Run, and whatever other adventure mode-adjacent modes.

How sentient does something have to be to count as a character? Does Ramblin' Evil Mushroom count as a character? Does Freezie count as a character?

Okay so. In the ask, you say Tabuu's method of control involves Shadow Bugs surrounding the trophy but...when did this happen?? Of all the Shadow Bug fighter clone fights in Subspace emissary, the bugs copy the trophy briefly before making the clone happen slightly after. We've seen this with Diddy Kong, the princesses twice, and Bowser at the very least. Each case the trophy was typically elseware, whether a few feet away or miles away in the halberd or in Bowser's possession. Sorry if that ramble made no sense. What I'm trying to say is that I don't think Shadow Bugs were ever used to 'control' a fighter. I think Master Hand was really the only character Tabuu ever had control over in that sense.
It did happen once with Mr. Game & Watch soooorta? After Snake kicks the army of Game & Watches out of the Halberd's helm, the shadow bugs used to form them forms Duon, and after Duon's defeat the shadow bugs scatter and leave Mr. Game & Watch's trophy behind. So an argument could be made for Mr. Game & Watch being under Tabuu's control before that, or he could've just been contained within Duon somehow.
Looking back on footage though, it does seem like most shadow clones of fighters are separate from the original fighters. That plus Mr. Game & Watch being used to farm Shadow Bugs rather than Tabuu just having them on hand leads me to agree that Tabuu doesn't really control others all that much. He much prefers to terminate them.

any oot ganondorf and sephiroth headcanons? curious as i am of the belief that they could get along really well
I can imagine they'd both laugh with each other about their various schemes in their games, particularly their more sadistic attributes. Though Sephiroth makes one thing very clear: outside of matches, Cloud is strictly off limits for Ganondorf.

Okay so for my question I asked- I also wanted to know. How do you think it felt to be mind controlled by the gods? Like what was it like the exact moment they were taken over?
I think it'd vary from god to god. For instance, we know that Master Hand was fully conscious during Tabuu's control while he seemed to suddenly "awaken" from Galeem's control.
Tabuu's chains invoked the image of puppet strings, specifically embedded in Master Hand's back. Beyond the chains, Tabuu's primary method of control was with Shadow Bugs, which typically take the form of an external mass with the fighter's trophy at the center (i.e., the fighter is unconscious when the Shadow Bugs take control).
We know from one of the beginning WoL cutscenes that the fighters captured by Galeem were trophified before being cloned. This plus Master Hand's freed animation makes me think that those controlled by Galeem are by and large unconscious, and simply put in a trance-like state (even if Master Hand can't be trophified). At the same time, spirits in particular do behave much like the characters they're based on, which makes me think their behavior is somewhere between being tranced and normal.
Dharkon is a weird case: the spirits and fighters it took from Galeem (i.e. Galeem already did the work and it's just converting light to dark), and the only being we know it had before that was Crazy Hand, whose "freed" animation is ambiguous enough that it could indicate any number of things, from being fine but groggy from waking to being put through severe agony to being mind-fogged from being in a trance, etc etc.
The only thing we can really work off of is Dharkon's approach to everything else it does, vs how Galeem would do it. Galeem beam blasts everything to take control? Dharkon waits until he gets weakened and then takes over. Galeem beam blasts Dharkon into oblivion? Dharkon restrains Galeem with chains before impaling his core with multiple spikes. Galeem beam blasts all the fighters into oblivion after taking care of Dharkon? Dharkon shrouds the world in darkness and we see Mario dropping dead with no trophification to save him.
All that to say, while Galeem's method of action in any given situation is more or less "so anyway I started blasting", Dharkon is a lot more methodical, and more sadistic with how it approaches things. So even if the state of consciousness of those it controls is similar to Galeem (tranced and semi-in character, based on how spirits continue to act the same), it'd likely make the actually taking control over a victim (not counting those it stole from Galeem) drawn out and likely painful. Especially if it felt that it was taking back something that rightfully belonged to it--in Crazy Hand's case, perhaps the darkness that his blood (and/or other parts of his body) are made up of, that drew Dharkon to Crazy Hand while letting Galeem keep Master Hand.

So, I don't you've ever answered this before: how exactly do you think Galeem and Dharkon the Hands under their thralls? Let alone into their domains?
Kirby seemingly just stumbled upon Galeem's domain (the Light Realm) so getting the Hands into their domains was likely not an issue--and even if they couldn't just step into it from outside, both are capable of making portals.
At the same time, the Light and Dark Realms seem to exist as a sort of "pocket dimension" separate from each other. The Dark Realm isn't visible from within the Light Realm; when Dharkon breaks into the Light Realm from the Dark Realm we can see the sky "break away" like glass. So basically while there isn't a solid barrier between aligned and unaligned territory, light and dark colliding with each other creates a more solid boundary at the point of contact. (Hence why we get the sort of "pushing back and forth" of the Light & Dark Realms in the Final Battle.)
As for how they captured the Hands, I'm not sure, but given Dharkon's strategy of "wait and let the other people make it easier for me" I'd bank on Galeem making the first move. Maybe it became active and prompted the Hands to investigate, or it went after Master Hand since his blood seems to be made of light (and left Crazy Hand alone bc his blood is different.
There's also what I said before about Master Hand & Crazy Hand likely being younger and less powerful gods whose full power only just started to bloom (put them against a god with full mastery over their power, and it makes sense they'd get captured).

The reason it's taken Ganondorf so long to use any sort of weapons in Smash is because he's never taken it very seriously. Unlike his home series, where he's constantly conquering nations and engaging in a pre-ordained eternal blood war, Smash is just a game (one that can be very intense at times, but one that ultimately has very little at stake aside from maybe personal pride), so he treats it as little more than a training exercise. He enjoys the challenge.
The events of WoL convinced Ganondorf to finally take up arms, but he's still arrogant enough to think he doesn't really need it in this place.
