My whole life I have considered myself a Christian. However, about five years ago I began my journey into the fascinating realm of Witchcraft. My whole life I have been taught that the two must exist exclusively, that a Witch couldn't be a Christian. The two are natural enemies.
I was so happy when I learned that the two could coexist. In fact, I believe my practice has enhanced and advanced my spiritual journey in Christianity.
Soon after this wondrous realization, my eyes were opened to the fact that Christianity has been quite the oppressive belief system for thousands of years. In the name of my religion wars were started, blood was shed, land was stolen, and countless more injustices committed against innocent human life.
I have a bad taste in my mouth, and I still do, for organized religion (truthfully, any sort of organized religion, especially the hierarchical ones).
In the past my family has criticized me for avoiding attending church. Among other reasons, I find attending church quite a hollow and vapid experience.
Why would I want to sit and listen to someone interpret the Bible for me?
Now, I will say that I'm not a total punk. I'm not undervaluing the seminary, or other schooling, that most pastors and church leaders typically must complete to earn the position.
What I'm saying is boo on someone standing behind a pulpit in an air conditioned room full of artificial lights, expensive glass, and decorations talking at me for 20 minutes (if lucky) or more, asking for donations to keep the damn thing running, and then BOOM all done we've all done our duty to God be good till the next time xoxo here's some cookies and punch yay God.
But per the Bible (and my mother's preaching), congregation is key to personal growth.
And I don't disagree. She's right.
But honestly, any day I'd take a small group of Christian friends, even a coven of Christian witches, over a sermon in a stuffy dusty church.
Let me be in nature, walking and appreciating the sunrise, discussing the latest part of the Bible we've read. Let me be planting a garden for friends or for community service, talking about theology. Let me be in the house of one of our group members' Grandmothers, who is homebound and lonely and excluded from attending her own church due to home rest. Hmph. Let me be with people of beautiful and open and unthreatened minds, who don't just stop at reading The Holy Bible, but who devour The Quran and The Book of Mormon and The Tripitakas and the Five Classics and whatever we can get our hands on and be unafraid of discussing the differences, what we believe, and even being absolutely ok with disagreeing completely on our interpretations of the religious texts because good Lord they're RELIGIOUS-and-ultimately-dependant-on-FAITH-texts so no one knows what's right at the end of the day we just all have these random hunches and go with em.
I hate the idea of a physical Church.
It's a money drain.
A waste of space.
Beautiful, but vapid.
It's everything that we're taught God despises, yet we accept it as a need for Man.
Why pay for the electricity, the water, the property taxes?
Why do we physically wall ourselves off from Her Creation?
If people are willing to volunteer their home and their backyard, why do we pay for constant space to congregate?
This virus proved that churches aren't necessary to congregate.
God never wanted huge buildings in Her honor.
She just wanted us to honor Her in our hearts.
I think we can do this much more effectively (in terms of personal growth) if we're forced to coordinate with our brothers and sisters in faith, or covenmates, where we're going to worship and how.
Instead we have mega churches that people attend once a week and then maybe, if they're devout, attend a Bible study and do community service.
Churches are unnecessary. We have everything we need that She thoughtfully put on this earth for us. End thought.
(*side note: In the past year or two I've come to see my God figure as feminine, and even more recently I've realized that my God figure is Mother Nature. Still Christian tho. I'm trying to kick the habit of referring to God in the masculine, as that was what I was taught all my life. So if I slipped up in the post and missed a he/him/his, it's not what I meant!)

How to Witchcraft: Knot, Thread & Cord Magic
It’s a funny thing. I use knot/cord magic A LOT but I don’t think I’ve ever seen a book devoted to it (I like Scott Cunningham’s chapter on it in Earth Power, pg.91). It’s so versatile though that there SHOULD be more about it.
As a newer witch, knot/cord magic is something I HIGHLY recommend. Especially if you are in the broom closet/can’t light candles or have a fire to burn herbs. It’s easy to do and it’s inconspicuous. There are so many ways to incorporate it too.
First let’s talk about the different kinds of knot/cord magic:
Braiding: Used for long term, braid three or more colored cords while focusing on your intention and use when necessary.
Knot 1: Tie 9 knots on a colored cord while focusing on your intention and place some place where it will not be disturbed (by storing it, burning it or burying it- so the knots will never be undone).
Knot 2: Tie 9 knots on a colored cord while focusing on your intention to store energy. Release knots one by one in the order they were tied to release the energy when needed, once a day consecutively.
Crochet/Knitting: Use to imbue intention into the item so that the wearer benefits (e.g. warmth, self confidence, protection, etc).
Cross Stitch/Embroidery: Used to imbue intention into the item. Especially useful with sigils.
How to do it:
There are a few methods known when working with knot & cord magic.
Braided cords typically do not get undone, and are stored for long term use. While braiding the cord (typically in 9’ or 9" measurements but if you don’t follow the threefold law this is irrelevant– unless your deity is a triplicate that you plan to invoke). To Do: Concentrate on your intent while braiding the cord, visualizing/thinking about it coming to fruition. Once you’re finished braiding consecrate the cord and put it away until you need it. This isn’t meant for an every day thing, just an as needed cord.
Knots can be harnessed in a few ways but the gist is that you’re using the knots to store power related to the intention of your spell. 1) Where you don’t ever untie them, 2) When you untie them as power is needed, or 3) when you untie one knot each day for consecutive days.
Typically you would tie a bead onto one end of the cord so that you know what your starting end is. You can also melt the ends with fire to prevent fraying. To Do: Pass the cord through a candle flame or incense to cleanse it while saying the words of your spell (i.e. the REASON you’re doing this) then you begin tying the knots in the cord you want to say the following while focusing on the intention/the type of power you are storing:
By knot of ONE, the spell’s begun By knot of TWO, it cometh true By knot of THREE, so mote it be By knot of FOUR, this power I store By knot of FIVE, the spell’s alive By knot of SIX, this spell I fix By knot of SEVEN, events I’ll leaven By knot of EIGHT, it will be Fate By knot of NINE, what’s done is mine
Generally knots are tied in this order:
1——6——4——7——3——8——5——9——2
But I have seen other variations, I just find this one easier to follow because it doesn’t start in the middle so you have a reference point for which end contains the 1st knot (the bead). You can also tie things INTO the knot to strengthen the magic even further (hair, wood, stones/gems, etc) just make sure to destroy or bury those items if you choose to untie the knots. Some people use knotted cords as a powerful talisman and don’t untie the knots, if this is the case you want to store it where it won’t be disturbed, burn it so it will never physically be untied or bury it where it will disintegrate in the earth and also never physically be untied. I have done all three methods of handling and I can’t say I prefer one over the other. The really great thing about storing energy is that it’s raised when it will be the most powerful (increases, like success or protection, would be sometime from the new moon to full and decreases, like a binding, would be sometime from the full moon to new) but the power is now stored for use whenever you need it.
Crocheting/Knitting is something I consider part of knot and cord magic because you can purposefully stitch your intention into the item you’re making. A lot of time, if for friends/family, I weave warmth and protection into things I make for them. So I might say something like:
With every stitch that I make, the wearer of this item will be protected and warm, but as the need arises they will be alert until they get to safety. Never too hot, but not cold either, This item will keep them comfortable. By earth, air, flame and sea, as I say, so shall it be.
And I’ll focus on that while I continue to make the item. Off topic, but notice how I put a clause in there that they will be alert if the need arises until they reach safety. I don’t want them to be so warm and comfortable that they neglect their own safety.
Cross-stitch/embroidery: You can embroider sigils using color appropriate cloth and thread! You can cross stitch spells into your work (like cross stitching an acorn and imbuing it with luck and protection, which actual acorns can represent). There are so many different things you could do, let your imagination do the work!
Color in knot & cord magic:
White: purity, truth, sincerity, spirituality, the goddess, peace, higher self, virginity(as in the woman’s mind is owned by no man), a substitute for any other color. Red: strength, health, vigor, sexual love, energy, passion, courage, element of fire, career goals, fast action, lust, blood of the moon, vibrancy, driving force, survival Light Blue: tranquility, understanding, patience, calm, gently moving, wisdom, good fortune, opening blocked communication Dark Blue: impulsiveness, depression, changeability, protection, spiritual inspiration, reassurance, creativity Green: finance, fertility, luck, Earth Mother, physical healing, monetary success, abundance, tree and plant magick, growth, Element of Earth, personal goals Gold: wealth, The God, promote winning, safety and power of the male, happiness, playful humor Yellow: The Sun, intelligence, accelerated learning, memory, logical imagination, breaking mental blocks, selling yourself Gold/Yellow: attraction, persuasion, charm, confidence Brown: hesitation, uncertainty, neutrality, influence friendships, special favors Pink: honor, romantic love, morality, Planetary Good Will, healing of emotions, peace, affection, romance, partnerships of emotional maturity, caring, nurturing Black: loss, discord, confusion, protection, repelling negativity, binding, shapeshifting Purple: tension, ambition, business progress, power, influencing people in high places, third eye, psychic ability, spiritual power, self assurance, hidden knowledge Silver/Grey: cancellation, neutrality, stalemate, telepathy, clairvoyance, intuition, clairaudience, psychometry, dreams, astral energies, Female Power, communication, The Goddess, moon magic Orange: encouragement, adaptability, stimulation, attraction, business goals, property deals, ambition, career goals, general success, justice, legal matters, selling, action Copper: passion, money goals, professional growth, fertility in business, career maneuvers

Tarot Tip: Predicting Events 🕒
If you’re about to do a tarot reading, and you’re asking a question about the timing of an event or a goal (the future card, for three card readings), you can use use the court cards to determine how quickly or slowly it will happen, and the people and energy surrounding it.
Before the reading, pull the court cards from the deck to create a ‘mini deck’.
Shuffle your deck, pull the cards for the reading from your main deck, and then, dip into your ‘mini deck’. Pull one card to determine how quickly the events foretold in this reading will happen.
Lengthy amount of time (6+ months)
Pentacles/Disks: Slowest, will take a while, but the end result will be very stable.
Cups: Fairly slow, gradually, will flow in like a river, but it will be an emotional journey.
Shorter amount of time (Under 6 months)
Swords: Fairly quickly, beginning like a breeze and then pushing through like wind. The end results may cause some damage in the process however.
Wands: Quickest, rapidly, almost all at once like a sudden fire, will require discipline for the result to be stable.
If you pull a Page, your end result will involve children/teenagers or youthful energy.
If you pull a Knight, your end result will involve young adults or ambitious energy.
If you pull a Queen or King, your end result will involve mature/older adults or energy full of wisdom and mastery.

My experience with toxic positivity is like someone tossing me an inner tube while I'm drowning in the ocean. But that inner tube has a slow leaking hole and not a soul knows of the hole but me, not even the one who provided the tube. No one can relate. They're not drowning. They're safe in the shallows with their feet comfortably on the ocean floor. They don't experience the same feelings of despair, helplessness, and exhaustion.
They judge me yet: "Sure the waves prove difficult, but our feet are on solid ground, we can withstand it and recover, why are you so different?"
As I struggle on my partially inflated tube, I attempt to explain that my feet haven't felt the ocean floor in years, that I'm getting drawn deeper into the riptide and my energy is too depleted to withstand any more.
"Make use of the inner tube!" they say to me, unconcerned and blind to the true nature of the tube. Their memory consists only of the full inner tube that was first tossed. These are the same ones who were too busy praising their friend for offering help to notice the lack of substance.
Then, they judge me further.
.
.
.
"Incapable"
"Impossible"
"Ungrateful"
"I tried to help"
"Loves playing the victim"
.
.
.
They claim to love me, support me, and help me.
They're Good People.
I try not to push them further out of reach for fear of permanently losing myself to the current.
I fight to stay afloat. I wait for That One Person who understands and who can show me how to get my feet back onto solid ocean floor.
.
.
.
They don't come.
Finally, the exhaustion is overwhelming. My physical body can no longer be forced to deal with the abuse of the battering waves. The mental energy that had been powering my survival is now slowly slipping away, just like the air from the hole in my inner tube.
The last bit of air whistles as it escapes.
My legs no longer work, my arms refuse to paddle. I look at my friends and family, talking and laughing and encouraging each other when a powerful wave almost knocks one off their feet.
I smile. I refuse to scream and ruin their happy lives, unaffected by the despair I experience.
Why ask one for their hand to only risk pulling them in with me? I love Them too greatly to wish this upon Them.
I smile and relax. No longer do I force my legs to work, my arms to grasp for life.
.
.
.
I know what they'll say.
They'll call me a coward, for not fighting harder.
They'll call me weak, for succumbing to the waves.
They'll call me selfish, for taking their right to my existence from them.
But that's alright. I took my demons, my monsters, my enemies down with me.
Now I know they'll never harm another living soul. My friends and family are protected from sharing my memories, my experiences, my burdens. They can live their blissfully ignorant life to the dangers that lurk just a little deeper in the water.
For their ignorance is by choice alone.
They can see the unpleasant darkness but have the luxury and privilege to refuse to acknowledge it. They know it's there but they don't know how to handle it. There is great safety in an outright refusal to accept consciously what the subconscious perceives. They admire the ones who desperately claw their way back to the shallows and to the shore, yet despise those who cannot for fear of finding that which they despise within themselves.
However, it's alright. It's against basic human nature to acknowledge that there are some wars that cannot be won. They dismiss those who get pulled into the depths as weaker, as they are simply unable to admit the existence of powers strong enough to overcome human resistance.
I once saw the waves as dark and fearsome torment, but after some time I saw the light inside. The alluring escape, the beautiful restfulness of the deep waters, I witnessed the peace within. It called to me as a siren to a ship full of sailors, making promises I could only test if I let myself be drawn into the depths.
As I relaxed myself and felt the pull of the waves, upon my ears fell the most beautiful melody. I lost direction as my limp body rolled and tossed and fumbled through the vast expanse of the ocean. I felt my lungs begin to burn and ache, and I soon felt my mind returning to the dark state from whence it came.
.
.
.
When I awoke, I lay upon the sandy shore of the beach to whom I had just surrendered. The sky was as blue as the sparkling waters in front of me, the clouds as white as the foam edging the waves. I saw Them in the shallows, comfortable and strong in their combined efforts.
But like a Phoenix from the ashes, I had risen from the waters of my peril a new creation.
I had smiled in the face of my demons.
I was strong enough to recognize defeat.
I was selfless enough to preserve my loved ones from the pain I bore.
.
.
.
No longer will I struggle in the depths. No longer will I wait for the help and toxicity of those who haven't shared my experiences. I will bow my head, take a deep breath, and drag my demons down into the same flames which consume me, or find my peace trying.
(if anyone reblogs this, it would be cool if you changed the ending of the story to fit your life experience! Not all people experience their difficulties the same way, however we all can come out stronger the same way. Did your people band together, joining hands, to rescue you from 'the depths'? Did you have 'That One Person' who heroically provided real help? Did a fucking whale come up under you out of nowhere and let you ride it until it beached itself sacrificially to save you? I want to know!)

(platonic or romantic) LOVE SPELL
This spell requires physical touch, meaning you already need to be at a borderline intimate relationship level with whoever you would like to impress or draw closer to you.
I will note at this point that I don't personally promote magicks that in any way affect the free will of another, however I have no qualms with witches who do. To each their own.
Understanding this, put yourself in a situation with your person of interest where you can comfortably touch and stroke them. Whatever bare skin of theirs you can reach (and is appropriate for your relationship level), begin gently running your fingers, slowly, along it's length.
Don't do this in any particular pattern. With the lightest touch possible, envision you're playing a super sensitive piano but nonlinear. Touch with each finger randomly. Constantly change the pressure, direction, and duration with which your fingers are in contact with their skin. The point is to be unpredictable and keep them anticipating your next finger movements.
The goal is to give them goosebumps and make them squirm with sensual pleasure. This action triggers positive reward factories in the brain and releases dopamine.
Over time, this action repeated often enough whilst focusing or meditating on your feelings for this person, will begin to make them feel your powerful emotions emanating from your body and eventually seek out your touch (or they'll at least put themselves within arms reach, where you can stroke them).
This isn't a spell insomuch that you say any words, it's more of a focus on your pure love for that particular human.
***Huge note here, there's a difference between "I want to fuck that person's brains out", and "I want to love and cherish that person until they get old and wrinkly". This 'spell' isn't intended for anyone trying to make someone fall in love for the purpose of sex. It could be for a BFF whom you love and adore or it could be for a romantic partner.
******Even BIGGER note, if someone seems uncomfortable, verbally ask them if it's ok to keep going or if you should stop. If they are indeed uncomfortable, you should immediately cease and apologize. End notes.

did anyone else spend their childhood running barefoot around their neighborhood shoving rocks and sticks and leaves and dirt and flowers and lord knows what else into hose-water-filled plastic water bottles and then pouring it out into the middle of the street in special "shapes", hopefully manifesting some zany childhood fantasy whilst chanting to make it all come true, or was that just me?
