hi hi hi i woke this morning and i couldnt stop thinking about cas, sam and jack and so i've decided to ask the professionals. do you have any family headcanons for them ???

Hi hi hi!! I’ve been promoted to being a professional! I have a few that I haven’t shared before. Been thinking about them a lot recently. 

Ironically, the one who doesn’t sleep is the one who rounds up the ones who do and sends them to bed. Jack only sleeps a few hours so he forgets he needs to sleep at all, and more than once when he’s around Sam, they’ve both fallen asleep slouched over whatever activity had their attention. It’s usually research over something that Jack had asked about and they get absorbed in that subject. Sam always forgets he needs to sleep, a part of him must think he’s still soulless and doesn’t need it. So Castiel around 10 sometimes 11 he’ll suggest for them to turn in for the night. Typically, they agree but when it’s clear they’re too absorbed… It’s time for  the big guns. A movie break. They pile up in Sam’s room. Sam and Castiel take the edges of the bed while Jack is plopped in the middle. Not even a third of the way into the movie Castiel looks over to see them both sleeping. 

Sam found an old polaroid of his and decided to give it to Jack. The first few, like ten or twenty… came out terribly. Once Sam taught him how to use it properly though seeing his frustration, Jack went a little overboard. His wall was plastered with photos of Sam, Castiel, and a few he’d manage to sneak of others like Dean or even Mary. Mary didn’t mind but Jack always caught her off guard. Castiel and Sam were always quickest to notice and would pose for him. However, his wall was mostly filled with pictures of random things that he found interesting. Which varied from the back of a cereal box to a picture of a lake in some woodland forest that Jack doesn’t even remember going to but has a picture of it. Sam and Castiel’s biggest concern with that picture is that Jack definitely wasn’t taking it on the ground and he doesn’t remember it… All he could offer them was a shrug.

More often than not Sam and Castiel end up finding some souvenir or toy that they Jack will like whenever they’re out on a food run, or even coming back from a hunt. It sucks not always being able to take Jack with them, so it’s their middle ground. Although, they still try to find something when Jack is with them. So… They just like Jack knowing they’re always thinking of him. He appreciates the gifts, and even gets really excited about them. But he did have to ask for smaller gifts or more storage at some point. There’s really only so many places he could put things without it taking over his room. So, they’ve decided on smaller items and more storage containers that chill in Sam’s room. 

Castiel feels very lost cooking in a kitchen so whenever he decides to make something for Sam or Jack he makes things that don’t require a stove. Neither notice since their favorite foods don’t require a stove. Most of the things Castiel prepares are salads, sandwiches, or things he can microwave. The main reason they don’t catch on is because Castiel varies everything. Fruit salads are never the same as the last, he’ll swap out at least two or three fruits that seem to work. He has taken note of Sam’s taste in salads and finds recipes for different kinds as well so even those salads are never the same. Jack likes the salads too, and sometimes helps with them. Admittedly, Castiel gets carried away making sandwiches. He found the wiki for sandwiches and there’s just too many that seem like they’d be suitable for Sam and Jack. He doesn’t microwave many things, that’s saved for when they’re on a hunt and he doesn’t have the luxury of a kitchen or time. Sam always insists he can make himself something at that point, but once Castiel hands it to him, he’s confused because when he warms things up, it definitely doesn’t taste like that. It’s a mystery that even Castiel can’t solve. 

Sam actually doesn’t mind Jack eating sugar, in reasonable amounts. Sugary cereal admittedly isn’t the worst thing in the world. However, he just prefers it to be something like they’re at a park, it’s a hot summer day they should get some ice cream. Or they’re watching movies as a family, some candy and junk food is the way to go. It’s cooling down, perhaps they should warm up with some hot chocolate. Later Sam realizes it’s things he wanted on those types of days as a kid but they never got those things unless they were with Bobby or Pastor Jim. So he pretends to not notice Jack eating some cereal that makes Sam’s teeth feel like they’re going to fall out, and still surprises Jack with a sweet treat from time to time. He also pretends to not notice Castiel doing the same thing when they think he can’t see them. 

Jack kept asking to spar with Sam, but Sam was hesitant. He hated sparring with his Dad, and didn’t want the same thing to be true for Jack. But after a hunt where Jack got injured from not being able to hold his own in hand to hand combat he agreed. It was awkward for both at first, not wanting to hurt each other. But Castiel offered to spar with Sam for demonstration and for Jack to pick up different methods from both of them. It worked better to spar with Castiel first, knowing he can handle a few harsher punches and kicks, and Jack ended up finding ways to combine both of their fighting styles. More than once Sam has been knocked back hard, unexpecting Jack’s combos, and everytime he’s proud. While they thought originally it would only help Jack, it made hunting easier being familiar with each other’s cues. Sam understood a little better why his Dad had them spar so much, but he still sees the flaws in how he went about it. But rather than hating his Dad for it, he tries to learn from it. It’s good to know that even though they train together, when Sam goes in for a hug, Jack never flinches; he just embraces him. 

Sam and Castiel work really well together when it comes to spellwork. With all of Castiel’s knowledge and all the tricks Sam’s learned from Rowena they can tackle coming up with now components to help them on the field. It came to their attention that Jack’s not the most familiar with spellwork, he’s around to see incantations and all. But he’s never the one doing them. He picked up really quickly, and to help with the tricker ones, they’d practice tongue twisters. They know it’s very unlikely for Jack to need them, since he has his own natural magic… They know at any point their lives can change drastically and they’d rather teach Jack while they can. And when Jack lost his grace, they were more than grateful at the fact that he’d have some spellwork under his belt.

Ok so imagine

Sam is very happy about something and goes in for a celebration kiss but takes Cas by surprise, so he blocks him on instinct. Sam keeps trying to get his kiss, but Cas still hasn't processed what is happening, so he just keeps freaking out even more. Sam just realizes the situation and starts laughing instead of explaining himself, Cas is about to punch him in the face out of fear for his life, and Dean is in the background, uncomfortable 🙏

One of the most bizarre outcomes of Destiels popularity is how people suddenly decided that Dean was the most queer coded brother, despite that fact that this is literally objectively untrue. Sam is a kid who always felt like an outsider in a macho family, who grew his hair out and had an effeminate imaginary friend with rainbow suspenders who told him it's okay to be who you are. He is constantly feminized, called a bitch and a girl and "Samantha". He is a kid who grew up feeling unclean and sinful for something he couldn't help, who was disowned by his family and found refuge in college. When put in masculine enviorements, he is portrayed as vulnerable in the same way that queer men usually are: such as in the prison episode where he gets threatened with rape, called sweetheart and Dean jokes about not selling him for cigarettes. Unlike Dean, Sam also never says he is straight and never says he is not attracted to men. Not once, in 15 seasons. He has also used gender neutral terms about former lovers. Like, I'm not even saying that there aren't also moments with queer subtext for Dean (I think there is), but Sam is one big queer allegory in a way that Dean just isn't. If one of the brothers were ever going to be made canonically queer, it would have been Sam.
