I just watched this amazing 3 part video essay about Jeffery Star by Nikki Carreon. And it reminded me how easy it is to idolize the wrong people as a child. And how that can ruin you as an adult.

I looked around my room at my Sanders Sides posters, Dan and Phil Polaroids, and signed prints from some of my favorite artists and writers.

All of those things surrounded by media I love more than anything. What’s inspired me to create and brought me hope in the worst times of my life.

How to draw books squished next to Rangers Apprentice and Percy Jackson. Pewter figurines from my grandpa held up by my FMAB pocket watch.

A lot of my favorite creators say ‘thank you’ at the end of their videos, movies, or other media. And while I love that I always feel the overwhelming need to yell back through the void

Thank you for caring that I was watching, for giving me something to love. Even though I will never meet most of you, I bless the hands who made the small wooden ship that sits on my shelf.
