07/10 - 08/10
- Studied the pre-course materials for the upcoming programming cohort next weekend
- Worked out without squats and jumping because I injured my shoulder and knee prior to the summer so, I hadn’t worked out for a few months. I’m really glad I decided to push myself to get back into it. I also discovered that I can’t do heavy upper body workouts, which means I can’t join boxing classes 😢
- Currently at 133 pages of the Atlas Six. It’s dark academia vibes with magic, and I’m really enjoying it so far!
- Started watching the devil’s plan last night. OH MY GOD, it’s such… an intense show
- Continued doing job network, it’s exhausting, but necessary 🥲

Hope your studies are going well! Enjoy route to Fullstack Development? That’s a big goal but very much achievable so bravo for setting that goal! 🙌🏾✨
Wanted to ask a quick question 🙋🏾‍♀️
🌟 share one of your academic/programming “core memories”!
Thank you!!
Tumblr media
Heya Xia 🤍
I'm enjoying it so far, and I hope your learning progress is going well. I had to put my studies on hold because of a job search, which has been overwhelming (that's why I've been inactive with my posts this week). And I decided to join a short-term bootcamp cohort where we will be building projects and giving presentations about them in the next two weeks, so I'm really hyped about it!
To answer your question, my most academic core memory was probably when I met this girl who ended up becoming my study partner during my master's studies. If it hadn't been for her, I honestly think I would've given up and not submitted my dissertation. Ironically, she ended up dropping out of school. However, she's now thriving and has landed a job at a tech company, so I'm happy for her. I don't blame her for dropping out either. Our program wasn't prepared for remote teaching at all, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. We only had ONE software development lesson throughout the ENTIRE semester, and we were left to self-teach for the most part. The professor was unresponsive, ugh.. lol. Anyway, since she left, I've really struggled, but fortunately, I have a wonderful support system that pushed me to finish my master's. It was incredibly challenging, but yeah, that's my academic core memory. 😅

👨‍🔬 Computer Science Learning Resources
These are a bunch of different resources I've collected over the years on data structures, algorithms and other computer science topics. Some of them I've shared before, but others might be new to you.
📝 Algorithms and data structures implemented in JavaScript with explanations and links to further readings
Algorithms, 4th Edition (online content for book)
Crafting Interpreters (book)
Computer Science from the Bottom Up (book)
Dive into Systems (book)
How to Design Programs (book)
How Does a Database Work? | Let's Build a Simple Database
Putting the "You" in CPU
The Algorithms
The Missing Semester of Your CS Education
A lot of them are books, which makes sense because the topic is one that we tend to learn in school. But they're still a good resource to keep reviewing your data structures and algorithms and to learn more about other interesting computer science-y topics such as the way the CPU works and how to build an interpreter for your own scripting language.
Enjoy! 🤓

Happy October and Fall season! 🍁
What things are you looking forward to the most this season?
My October plans
- Finish my JavaScript course on FreeCodeCamp
- *Maybe* participate in the programming cohort sessions for project collabs (just bc it costs :/) - Build projects for my portfolio and share them with all of you!
- Get job interviews
- Read books from my fall reading list - Do more self-care things apart from reading: drawing, crocheting, baking, hiking, and gym workout! - Find fun October-related events!

I feel like some people are too serious with learning how to program. “I gotta be the best in this and that and build this and that to impress this employer” blah blah, that kills the fun out of programming. I see a lot of people (bashing people on Twitter again and actually a few people on here too, oops) making programming such a serious topic and you can’t have fun in it. Besides the proper syntax, documentation, best practises whatever, people in the tech community have putting up “rules” about how you should program and what to learn and if you fall out of that, you get ridiculed for it. Literally making it less fun.
Someone said that there’s no point in learning jQuery because JavaScript alone can do all that jQuery can and more.
So? I’m still going to learn it for fun? I’m having a blast with SCSS and jQuery, I don’t care 🤷🏾‍♀️ and I’ll learn the other frameworks and libraries that suits me because I want to. I don’t care if the entire tech community stops using a technology - if it interests me, I’m still going to learn it~!
Also no hate or anything to that person who said that to me - I completely understand your POV on jQuery! 💗✨ When I first read comment, I was a bit down like “oh what’s the point then…” but slapped myself and was like “I’m not learning for them or anyone. This library is cool and I like it so I’m still gonna use it”
Moral of the story: just do you. Do what makes you happy, code what you happy. Don’t be so serious all the time and make stupid dumb programs or games or websites whatever. Have fun in such a hard subject!!!

Useful Project
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Friday 29th September 2023
This has got to be the most useful project I've made for myself and I'm so proud. An extension that when I click the various options, it will copy a group of tags that I want to use on my posts. Because I realised that 1) most of the tags I use are repeated 2) I don't remember all the tags I need for my own blog's organisation system (I like to be neat...).
By putting the tags into their groups and just by a click of a button, all the tags are copied to the clipboard and I can paste the all in one go on my posts.
Now I don't forget any tags! And I made it. Yay to me! 🥰💗👍🏾

Friday 29th September 2023
Hello Hello! hope you are having a fine day! For today's 'day of code', I started working on an interactive webpage on my favourite Saint Jerome as tomorrow is his feast day!
The project is called "Saint Jerome Interactive Odyssey" and I want it to be like a mini computer-like UI where you browse the various files/folders about him! Better than reading long texts about him and get bored a bit! I haven't been able to celebrate his feast day properly so this year I want it to be different!
This project I get to use SCSS again (so excited and I'm getting the hang of things!) and I get to start using Boostrap Icons, which I knew about... but never used them before (relied on fontawesome for my icons before)
But yeah that's it! ✨👍🏾

29.09.29 🥮🍂🐮
Happy Friday! I hope you're all having a fantastic day. These pictures are from yesterday at Chester Zoo. I didn't want to overwhelm everyone with too many pictures. Today I did:
- Applied for jobs
- Reached out to hiring managers and recruiters on LinkedIn and via email as part of my job hunting strategy
- Studied JavaScript for two hours

In a git repository, where do your files live?
"Where does git store your files? We know that it’s in your .git directory, but where exactly in there are all the versions of your old files?
For example, this blog is in a git repository, and it contains a file called content/post/2019-06-28-brag-doc.markdown. Where is that in my .git folder? And where are the old versions of that file? Let’s investigate by writing some very short Python programs."
Another interesting deep-dive on how git handles the files in your repository, where they're stored, how they're traversed and how git log works. A fascinating read for nerds like me. 🤓

Github Profile pages
Tumblr media
so, today I found out you can create special repo's on Github and the readme basically acts as a profile page! I think they look quite neat. Follow below to find out how I did it
First, go to your Github page and create a new Repo:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Name the new repo your account name, for example, my Github name is xTekker, so the repo is called xTekker, Choose to add a readme and make it public.
Tumblr media
Once here, you can then edit the readme, I used a readme generator I found here https://rahuldkjain.github.io/gh-profile-readme-generator/
Tumblr media
They even have language badges
Tumblr media
Once you've input everything to your liking, scroll all the way down and press "Generate Readme", this will bring up the makedown for it like so
Tumblr media
and you can just copy and paste this into the readme file on Github for that username repo we created eariler and Taa-daa!
Tumblr media
Enjoy!

Something romantic for programmers to do, write a console program for your crush. Only for them to not know what it means and just reply "👍"
