“Lost Boys” - Ocean Park Standoff

You jolt awake to the sound of your door being knocked on. Groggy, you get up and slowly pace around your apartment to get to the door. Once you open it, Bela is on the other side.

“Bela?” you ask, rubbing your eyes, “It’s almost 3 am, what’s going on?”

“Can I stay here?” She asks, “My boyfriend and I got into an argument and I didn’t feel like staying and- this was the only place I could think of. May I?”

“Yeah, of course,” You say, your eyes halfway open

You could tell that she was wearing your hoodie you gave her your first day of practice the other week.

“You want anything?” You ask, grabbing a snack out of the pantry

“Pass,” She says as she sits on your bed

“You want to talk about it?” You ask, sitting next to her

“When I got back my boyfriend was super drunk,” She begins, “He kept on rambling how I’m beginning to get all touchy and close to you... “

You are though... But, I’m not against it or anything...

“I just... You’re my close friend and I do the exact same thing with all of my other girls,” Bela sighs, “But you- I don’t know why he has a problem with you...”

“Well, let me tell you something,” You start, “I don’t give an absolute damn about what your boyfriend thinks of me. He shouldn’t be having this much control over who you decide to hug, chat with or even be friends with. If I’m going to be honest, he sounds toxic...” 

Bela sighs as she falls back into your bed, embracing its warmth. She groans as she covers her entire face with the both of her hands.

“Why haven’t you broken up with him yet?” You ask

“Because I’m afraid he’ll turn into one of those kinds of crazy exes and then he’ll hurt me and my family, my friends... You,” Bela sighs

“Me?” You ask, “Why would you be worried about me? I can sure handle myself in a fight. I should know.”

You try to play it off as a ‘hero’ kind of tone. But, when you look back down at Bela, she isn’t smiling.

“Because I care about you,” Bela confesses, “Since you joining the swim team, you were the first one ever to show to me that life is just more than swimming.”

“Like?” You ask

“I need to detach from the world every now and then,” She says, “Especially that night I found you on the rooftop.”

“That huh?” You ask, sighing, “I’m not one for parties...”

“I know,” She sighs

You fall back into your bed and offer your arm as a pillow for her. She lays her head against your arm and turns to you.

“Of all my relationships, you’re the only one who’s shown me respect and human decency.” Bela also confesses

“Bela, we’re not dating,” You say, “But, even so, why wouldn’t I?”

“Because all the boys would just bend to my will, I know it’s toxic of me to have them do so but, I want someone who would fall for me, for me.. You know?”

You nod, “Well, I always fall in love with the personality.”

“And?... My personality?” She asks you

“Well, you’re amazing in and out Bela,” You smile, “You’re the coolest gal I’ve ever become friends with. My captains from high school weren’t this close with me.”

“Really?” She asks, “Why not?”

“Cliques in the team,” you sigh, “After the season, none of us ever really got together other than at the banquet a couple weeks later.”

“Hmm,” Bela sighs, scooting in closer to you, “Have you ever... slept with a woman?”

“I wouldn’t say slept with in the terms you’re talking about,” You sigh, “Just cuddling maybe making out... But that’s it. So in other words, no.”

Everything was silent from there. But, Bela still huddles into your embrace. However, you take the opportunity to change into your pajamas. Bela pretty much makes herself at home and is already under your blanket. 

“You’re also welcome here if you need an escape from your boyfriend,” You whisper in Bela’s ear as you hop under the covers with her

She cuddles into your embrace as you begin wrapping your arms around her. Not too long after you manage to get her to fall asleep. The same goes for yourself. As you watch the sunrise peek through your windows you look down at Bela who was still fast asleep in your arms. You couldn't help but crack a slight smile. You move some hair out of her face and place a gentle kiss at the middle of her forehead. She begins to stir and looks up at you with half-opened eyes.

"Morning," she says, smiling

"Morning," you reply back, "Hungry?"

She nods but cuddles into your further, "But, that can wait. Let's just stay here..."

Just as you were about to get situated in her embrace, you could hear a phone ringing. At first the both of you ignored it however, it became persistent. Bela looks at it and groans when she sees her boyfriend's name across the screen. She finally caves in and answers the phone.

"Where the hell are you?" He asks, "I've been searching for you all night."

"Sorry, after the argument I decided to stay with a friend," Bela sighs, “I had no mood to go back into your fraternity house..."

"That’s fine, but it better not be at that kids' dorm," he says, "Can we talk it out during brunch? On me."

"Maybe," she says, hanging up

The puts her phone back onto the nightstand and groans in frustration.

"I'm pretty sure your boyfriend doesn't sound too happy?" You ask

"He feels bad," Bela says, "Maybe I will take him up on that offer..."

"Alright," you say, without trying to sound butt-hurt, "If anything happens I'm only a call away."

"Thanks y/n," she smiles

Bela leaves after changing into a simple outfit for the day and leaves you to your lonesome. You decided to get your work done, at least whatever remaining work you had to do. You wanted to save your photo assignment for last. Hoping you could get Bela to be your model. However, realizing you had photo class the next day, you began losing hope of getting to do a photoshoot with Bela. After a couple of hours you finally finish your school work and decide to watch some of your favorite youtubers play various games. You were currently watching Markiplier play Papers, Please when you noticed your phone going off. You pick it up immediately when Bela’s icon came up.

“Bela?” You call for her, when you hear crying, “Are you okay?!” 

“He isn’t picking up,” Bela sniffles, “I think he stood me up... I know your calf is injured but-but can you come get me?”

“I could care less if my calf is injured, don’t worry love, I’ll come get you,” You say, reassuringly

You slip on your calf brace and slip on some shoes and grab your car keys and rush out the door.

Bela gives you the address to the restaurant that Bela and her boyfriend had agreed to meet up at. You see Bela sitting along the curb just outside of the restaurant, her head in her hands. You stop your car and hop out.

“Bela,” You say

She looks up at you and practically jumps into your arms, sobbing into your shoulder.

“Shhhh,” You coo, stroking her blonde locks, “It’s okay.. It’s okay..”

“He didn’t even call me,” Bela cries

“You know what?” You ask, pulling Bela away to look at her

“What?” She asks

“Would you possibly want to hang out with me instead?” You ask, trying not to sound like a weirdo, “We can do anything you want really. I may not be your boyfriend Bela, but I absolutely hate seeing you torn because of this guy.”

“Sure,” She tries to smile at you but to no avail

“We’ll make it a night you will remember for the ages,” You try to sound optimistic

You made your last stop at a grocery store for some stuff for home as you had just remembered you hadn’t done that yet. You look out to the sky and notice the sun beginning to set. With the time you had remaining, you quickly change the song to “Lost Boys” by Ocean Park Standoff

On occasion you would look over to Bela and you’d see her smiling from ear to ear; enjoying the music you had put on for the both of you.

As you continue singing your heart out, Bela could help but notice that whenever the sunlight would hit you, your eyes would glow a perfect shade of honey. You were driving so she couldn’t kiss you right then and there.

“What is it Bela?” You ask, finally having the change to look at her

What you had noticed, the sunlight hitting Bela, you could see her eyes shining a perfect shade of bright gold and you were sure her eye color was hazel.

“Nothing,” Bela blushes before facing forward again

“Oh! Before the sunsets fully! I need your help with something for photo class!” You blurt out

“What?” She asks

“I need to do photos of something nostalgic but at golden hour,” You tell her, “Or at least that is the theme I’m going for! I need a model for this and I couldn’t think of anyone else but you! What do you say?”

“I’ll help y/n!” She smiles

“I know a perfect spot!” You smile, putting ‘pedal to the metal’

In short time, you reach the spot you had planned; a ‘secret’ spot in the state park that had a lakeside. 

“Oh my gosh...” Bela gasps, hopping out of your car, “This is beautiful! How’d you fin this place?”

“I do some research and I’d sometimes come here when I want to feel alone,” You explain, “You’re actually the very first person I’ve brought here.”

“Me?” She asks, “Why am I the first person?”

“I don’t know,” You shrug, “This was the first place I thought of. Okay! Let’s do photos before it’s too dark!”

You do the pictures and Bela looks through them. The both of you agreed that they were perfect.

“Exactly how I pictured them in my head,” You smile, “Thanks Bela.”

The both of you just watch the sunset over the horizon, the both of you laying your heads gently against each other.

“Can we go back to your place?” Bela asks, “I don’t want to go home just yet.”

“Yeah, sure, you want food on the way back?” You ask

She nods, “But, you pick.”

You just get some pizza on campus and finally reach back to your apartment. The both of you were watching a movie and sitting on your couch. Bela leans onto your shoulder as the both of you continue watching the movie. 

“Do you think he no longer loves me?” Bela asks

“I wish I had the answer for that one Bela,” You sigh, gently rubbing her arm, “But hey, if anything happens you have the team, your sisters, your mother... And me.”

You hear Bela slightly chuckle and slings her arm across your midsection. You smile, knowing you had helped her, even though you two only had met a couple of months ago. 

Realizing what time it was, you begin preparing for bed, Bela decided to stay over again.

“If I’m gone by the time you wake up you can stay if you choose or you can leave,” You say, hopping into bed, “Just remember to lock the door.”

Bela nods as she against follows you into your bed and snuggles herself into your arms. 

“Goodnight Bela,” You say, giving her a forehead kiss

“Goodnight y/n,” She yawns

It was a restless night for Bela. She began overthinking about how her boyfriend stood her up earlier in the day, almost landed his hand across her face during that party months ago. She didn’t want to wake you up as she was aware you had morning classes mere hours later. 

By the time she actually got a decent amount of sleep, you were long gone. She slips on one of your hoodies that had your scent on it and groggily walks into your kitchen. She looks upon the counter and notices a note next to a coffee mug.

Thought you might want some coffee. Not sure how you like your coffee but I have creamer in the fridge and sugar up in the cupboard. I cooked food for you but they’re in the fridge, I didn’t want them to go bad so just warm them up. I’ll see you at practice Bels. - Y/n

She smiles from ear to ear as you had gotten up way earlier than expected just to cook yourself breakfast. but not only for you, but for her too. 

“Oh y/n,” Bela blushes

You were attempting to swim butterfly during practice however, you weren’t getting the arms right and you were looking for Bela to give you some pointers however, she was nowhere to be seen...

“Hey coach,” You swim over to the edge of the pool

“Yes y/n?” Donna looks up at you

“Have you seen the captain?” You ask

“She called earlier before practice and told me she wasn’t feeling to good, but she told me she’ll be at it tomorrow,” She explains

Hmm... That’s odd of Bela to miss practice... Oh well, I’ll check my phone after practice. 

You skip the shower and just put on some sweats and your swim jacket. You immediately go through your phone and see a bunch of missed calls from Bela, and only one voice message. When you listen through it, you beeline it out of the sports center and back to your apartment.

Listen… people be hating Naoya because he’s a misogynist yet liking characters like Sukuna that want to rape and kill women… Geto, that committed Genocide and Toji that killed the star vessel that was a kid and attacked a bunch teens.. the irony is real and alive and the lack of self awareness is crazy good. I have never seen more hate for Naoya stans and some people even call Naoya stans mentally ill in a derogatory way as if they’re any better themselves. The hate is because of the performative individuals that can’t understand that fiction does not equal reality yet are still majorly hypocritical themselves. I’m okay with people disliking him but I hate those “my morals are better” silliness. “Your great amazing morals” backseat when it comes to other charas bro, be consistent.

Anyways, I love your blog so much because you’re one of those people that doesn’t take things too seriously. Your blog has made me like him a lot compared to my initial indifference for him. He’s not one of my favorites yet you did a great job that I look forward to your content regardless.

first of all, I really hope the finale isn’t made completely about the triangle-the promo may have been misleading to keep people buzzing; I trust the show enough to trust that they won’t hurt Simon and Rose along with the agency of Zoey and Max as characters simply to make them endgame bc so much has been built up and growing over the back half of s2-also Zimon deserves a real chance beyond a few honeymooning episodes, they could have a really good relationship if there was time to bring more honesty there. Having read the post-ep interviews, I have more hope for how they’ll handle this; all of these characters are people

I am never going to get over the constant wonka references in DMD’s character given that Noah played him in the national tour-the writers really said “well we already know he can sing it” and I respect that sm; this character is positively fascinating

speaking of references, the jurassic park one was fabulous, although there is only one person in this cast who truly owns that line and it ain’t skylar (insert born to be wild soundbite here)

what an episode to air on mother’s day-dream a little dream of me was UNCALLED FOR and I WOULD LIKE TO FILE FOR EMOTIONAL DAMAGE but also it’s so heartfelt and real and Mitch and Maggie are the true relationship goals of this show

speaking of relationships, I almost didn’t realize until now how much I love Zoey and Max’s earlier dynamic; we haven’t really seen that since the pilot and I am just obsessed with their friendship-all of the little moments were just perfection and I’m reminded of why I was so hardcore team Max at the beginning of the series

oohh this is such a cool question!!!! the first song that comes to mind would be my fav piano/instrumental piece to listen to, Nocturne, which i actually mentioned in one of the chapters as one of cassie's favourite songs lol (no projection here at all jhvfhjbvf) - i think that was chapter 4?? anyways, i feel like that is a fitting song, but perhaps not theme-ish enough (???) so i'll also say willow, by taylor swift ofc. it has a perfect vibe, and some neat lyrics too!!

i'll also drop the link to my playlist that i sometimes listen to when writing hartford, which has Nocturne and a heap of other piano-based songs!! very dark academia vibes <3

27. What time of day do you prefer to write?

honestly, it depends on what exactly i'm writing, but early afternoon is always great for me (just the right balance of tiredness to productivity yk). but sadly that never seems to be the time of day that i have free to write, so it usually ends up being evening or night. for me, night time is for creative and new writing, and then day time is for editing and sorting ideas etc... (usually. or i just do it all at 2-3 am. whatever.)

1. sehun’s debut album after midnight. right now, this is probably the edit i am most proudest of. everything worked out so well here, it was my first time mocking up something this coherent and huge, and my friend ana helped out with the tracks and titles, which was just so much fun. their mind is, like, the coolest place ever and our visions just aligned. the colors turned out beautifully, and i put so much work into it. someone said in the tags that sm should hire me to do their concepts, and 😭😭😭 that is truly the highest honor. i think, this is what i would love to do for a living.

2. kino’s solo release Everything Else Has Failed! Don’t You Think It’s Time For Love? yes, this is another mockup. yes, i also do not care about that much. this was inspired by a flyer from a moma exhibition, that i saw on my dashboard. i just love this visually. everything came together exactly the way i wanted, even though the first panel was a happy accident. i wanted it to be inspired by art, because hyunggu is a painter and artist, and the concept behind it is him as a modern orpheus, basically. that this love story is wrapped up and told in epics, with a modern twist. the live showcase would only be attended via an invitation, etcetera. 

3. pentagon’s 5 year anniversary post. i actually made this on the day of the anniversary and it took me from 12.00 to 17.30., 5.5 hours. for mystical photoshop reasons, this didn’t turn out exactly the way i wanted it to, but i am still very proud of it. my favorite part is the picture in the middle, connecting the panels. this whole thing is huge, too. nothing could ever quite put my love for pentagon into words, so i just tried my best to show it here.

4. sehun at the berluti winter show 2020. first gifset! i tried a new coloring here and it came out just .... so stunningly. i was surprised myself, and i loved it so much, that i made it my header too. also, have you ever seen a man look this fine? i am truly just serving him, here. he made it ridiculously easy.

5. kibum’s single discography. I made this on the heels of the hate that... release and it just .... is one of my favorite things i have ever done. i even went back and added a bad love panel, after it was released. achieving these gifs was a little trickier than i expected and it took me a while, but i think it came out really well! i just love him so much, so this was fun.

honorary mention:  hui + various fashion moments, because the coloring and the concept worked so well here! unirevival was truly so much fun, and it really tickled me creatively. hui is a fashion icon.  pentagon + love. i remember the second week prompt being favorite concept, and i thought it would be exciting to think somewhat out of the box. (: this was my first time working with this kind of typography, and i am especially fond of the first panel and the shine gif.

and jiang cheng.  being the tough love uncle . having raised the yunmeng jiang clan from the rubble all alone, his whole family dead, some of it on the blame of his own brother, his siblings, his closest friends gone.......and only jin ling there needing his guidance. 

THE PARALLEL BETWEEN JIN LING BEING A LIFELINE FOR JIANG CHENG AND A-YUAN FOR LAN WANGJI AFTER THE BATTLE AT THE NIGHTLESS CITY

and like . the fact! that lwj and jc dislike each other!!. jc projects blame onto him for wwx both “leaving” him and indirectly causing their families deaths and when hes so consumed by it he makes wwx an enemy, lwj is there now? trying to protect him?? and lwj, who can never understand the pain that wwx , indirectly or not put jc through, but who was right there when jc tried to kill him and will never allow him to hurt wwx again. and how they like. in a way project blame of their tragedies onto each other while dealing with some type of survivor guilt and in their own way still loving wwx through it all???  amd in way its kind of fundamentally selfish but also tragically understandable? and like when u put it against the fact that after he disappears during the sunshot campaign they were looking for him together and fought together??

JUST. THE CHARACTERS. AND THE RELATIONSHIPS IN THIS. MAN. UGH. GOD. 

and like i think thats what makes it so good? its such a sad and painful and violent story, edgy even, but its compelling bc at the center of it there are all of these relationships and different types of love and hope and. :( i love it

Hope for the future

I am Mint, and I love- Well, writing! I'm usually most active as a roleplayer, but thanks to some self reflection, I've sorta decided to give something a bit more... idk, easier to freestyle and more flexible to focus on right now instead. I still lurk around on old rp blogs, but I wanna try doing something more relaxed, even if just for the sake of my own sanity lol. I want to keep improving, telling stories, and sharing them with others, so yeah. We're doing this shit now as well. Deal!

What I'll be doing on this particular blog is basically shorter, character, or similar inspired writing requests. These will not be full, mile-long marathon fanfics. I am going to do headcanons, oneshots, and drabbles for requested characters, done accordingly to any sender's wishes- but ONLY AS LONG, AS MY BOUNDARIES AND RULES ARE BEING FOLLOWED.

I know, the capitals make that sound a bit intimidating, but! I promise, I do not bite or eat children. I just want to make my point very clear straight off the bat. Call me Mint, I use any pronouns, I have loads of issues that may make me take unexpected breaks, I am an aroace and trying my best. @gukniverse - len is like a big sister to me!! she’s so caring, and she always pulls through with the best advice!! she brightens up my day with simple texts, and she makes me very happy!! Like a bundle of sunshine :-D She’s very sweet and gentle, a lot of the things that I am not, aha. I look up to her sm <3 for instance, I’m so happy that she finished school this quarter!! I hope I can graduate and be where she’s at in a few months!! 

@kithtaehyung - ryen is soo hardworking!! not only only is she a boss girl (hello, everyone, congratulate her on her work promotion), but she’s amazing at everything she does!! she needs to spare some of her talent -- not just writing, but did y’all know she sings and dances as well??!! she’s always learning new choreo or recording song covers, and I’m so excited to hear about her progress when she mentions it  :’) ryen, best girl who needs to eat her meals, and seriously just an all rounder!! 

@kitsutaes - yas is such a warm person :(( sorry I can’t quite put it in words, but it’s the best way I can explain it :’) she’s very sweet and inviting!! like I typically find it hard to keep conversations going because I’m reserved, but this girl makes me feel so comfortable <3 she’s one of my first friends from tumblr, and I luv her lots!! our conversations are natural, and they flow from one to the next. like we have a lot of the same interests (thanks to her always introducing them to me LOL), and I get excited for whenever my phone lights up with her msg!! 

@moominyg - kelda is so funny, and we vibe so well. we’re practically the same person, yet we couldn’t be as different as we are?? sometimes we have these telepathic moments, and I want her outta my head lmaooo. the only thing is that she’s more clownish :) the panini thinks it can keep us apart, but yoongi stans gravitate together >:) I guess I L word her, but you won’t catch those words coming from my mouth !! nor will you catch those emotions on my face >:( *avoids eye contact at all costs* 

@orbitmin - mirelle is the human embodiment of sunshine and comfort. some might think that the world is evil and unjust, but they would certainly change their mind once they meet mirelle! she’s sweeter than honey, and she’s honestly my safe place <3 her words make me feel warm all over, and it’s like the big hug that I desperately need. she’s the best girl, and I hope that she always feels as happy as she makes me!! 

@softguks - lauren, my lovie, nobody does it like her!! on top of having a really difficult major with painstaking work, she does all these extracurriculars. she puts in all of her effort/dedication, and I admire her a great deal!! sincerely wish I could have her ethic!! but even after all that she has on her plate, she has the ability to comfort me and cheer me up lskdjaklsdj like ma’am, why are you so kind?? can I interest you in a big hug and a kiss on either cheek?? 

@soonyoungs - cara, my dear one, has such a colorful mind!! she’s creative in soo many aspects, and it carries throughout all of our conversations!! like in her humor, she can passionately curse out soonyoung and profess her love for jaebee in more ways than I could ever imagine sksk. somehow, we’re always brainstorming scenarios about our fave idols in alternate universes, and it’s really fun. I really luv when she shares her fave quotes with me!! there’s never a dull moment with her!! 

@subvk - juno, my twinnie, I applaud her sm for always doing what’s best for her!! I think she’s brave and courageous (though I know she’s gonna be like ‘stfu you’re lying’). she doesn’t settle for anything, especially anything less than she deserves. but at the same time, she still holds a lot of compassion, and she looks out for others. for that, she’s someone I really admire <3

hello sweet anon! sorry I took a few days to answer, I was genuinely thinking about which ones to recommend. at a basic level, I recommend both modern Russian as well as Soviet films because I think we had a great variety of talents! In order of release:

Battleship Potemkin (1925) - iconic silent film about revolution, still hits today with incredible editing for the time

The Girls (1962) - feel good (but also sad coz Russians) romcom, I watched this so often growing up and constantly go back to it

Amphibian Man (1962) - monster romance film! makes me cry

The Ascent (1977) - war movie directed by a woman, warning because it is very emotionally heavy

Assa (1987) - experimental film featuring underground Soviet musicians of the time, definite fruity energy

The Needle (1988) - one of my most fav films of all time, semi experimental indie crime drama starring punk rock musician Viktor Tsoi

Brother (2002) - the problematic crime fav portraying Russia post the collapse of the Soviet Union

Winter Journey (2013) - potentially Russia's only openly queer film and it's SAD

I Am Dragon (2015) - monster romance set in Old Russia, pure serotonin

Leto (2018) - modern interpretation of the Russian underground music scene of the 80s

aespa’s “savage” album thoughts! 🐍😈

from debuting in controversy to rivaling established groups in the span of a year, the meteoric rise of this group has been veeeeeery interesting to witness. though I was initially one of those people with serious doubts about their concept, there’s no denying the powerhouse talent and energy these ladies are bringing to the scene - and the gobs of $$$ SM is throwing at this social experiment. they've definitely got some of the best visual designers working on this and it shows! going into this mini. I'm not quite sure what to expect - everything they've put out has looked GORGEOUS but do they deliver on the music? let's find out...

aenergy - can't quite understand what they're saying (edit: looking at the lyrics...I'm think I'm gonna need a glossary lol) but this is a pretty epic intro...in case you had any doubt what this group is about, now you know! I've never been a huge fan of chant-y verses so not quite digging the "everydaaAAAYYY we get better" but that beat HITS. oh gosh what does this rhythm remind me of?? I swear there's another song with this beat but I can't remember...

savage - intro really reminds me of super m's one (monster & infinity), that's a great build-up going into the chorus which then...goes nowhere...ok...I'm a little confused tbh. I wish the chorus was stronger to match the fierce energy from the verses. man these girls are KILLING it though! YAS THIS INSTRUMENTAL BREAK THOUGH!!! oh wait ok was that a key change? hold on whoa ningning is blasting off and then...it ends?

i feel under- and overwhelmed at the same time with this...like there are elements that are really great but that chorus totally kills the vibe, and don't quite understand the decision to add a key change at the end. everything ends up sounding quite disjointed when put together :/ mv looks AMAZING though so this is where dftf budget went lol jk jk corporation is gonna do what corporations do also props to the members for bringing their all, this is def very unconventional and honestly they sell it. we'll see how this does in the long-term...

I'll make you cry - oh fck. hold up. there's something going on here. the skitzy synth with those staccato verses and drum machine...

ok but that empty beat drop then that EXPLOSION at 1:15!!! THIS HITS!!! YAS I'M JUST!!! love this trap/hip-hop interpretation of a cyberpunk-y video game! I WANNA RACE A CAR TO THIS!!! the girls sound positively dangerous and I can totally imagine them as the protagonists of a futuristic action movie! OH BUT THE BRIDGE!! oh it's so sparkling and WOW they sound so amazing with their lower registers. the mixing actually sounds really incredible in this song, there's a lot going on but it's all balanced really well and all the vocal flourishes and harmonies!! despite the intensity, there's plenty of space for all of the members to shine. OKAY DOKEY I was not expecting that but MAN I was vibing!!

yeppi yeppi - the beat is PRESENT. sounds almost like they took a red velvet song and synth-ified it...oh WHOA the section that starts at 1:20 the drum machine!! the beats!! wooooo what a roller coaster ride! actually you know what, this almost seems like something that might've been slated for f(x), this song just gets weirder and weirder the more it goes on...holy SHIZ how much did they cram in here?? I'm just sitting here like 😧 producers really had fun with this one lol. def not for everyone's taste but I think I like it! might have to give this a few more listens...

iconic - ohh all right spy movie-action sequence vibes...heavy rap verses with this one, I'm glad they get to show so many different sides. nice contrast with the pre-chorus there, letting the space expand for a bit before packing the beats right back in. I am half expecting taeyong to drop in for a few lines here lol, sounds very much in nct's alley. lyrically the chorus feels a bit juvenille but I can vibe to it, the chromatic descents add enough movement to keep it going. ahhh the bridge sounds so refreshing! hmm yeah I feel this one!

lucid dreams - just based off the title I'm expecting something a bit more laid-back, and it seems like I'm right! the sustained synths add more mood and atmosphere here...really like the background noise, that's a nice touch! oh it's so nice to hear their voices a little bit more stripped back :) the trap beats are back at it again, except a bit more relaxed here. tempo is still pretty fast though. OOOOHHHH YESSSSS THE CHORUS. YES. sometimes doing less is more, and that's exactly what's working out here. the harmonies really get a chance to shine and they're able to convey so much emotion, paradoxically, by not conveying much at all. nice transition from the layered chorus to the singular vocal line, sonically a very interesting moment. love the shooting star effects and little touches going on in the background! OH THIS BRIDGE! oh wow what a way to close out the album

overall - I AM SO PLEASANTLY SURPRISED!! wow this really delivered some amazing stuff and I am so happy that a lot of this is in the vein of what I like listening to, like trap, synthwave, and electronica. sm back at it again with the weak title tracks, but I am honestly so glad the ladies got some b-sides to show what they're really about. clearly they're got the vocals and the musicality to tackle whatever is thrown at them, and I've really been impressed by them so far. even in the saturated landscape of kpop, this sounds fresh and interesting and PROPS to the producing team!! they brought it!! my playlists grew a bit today, yayyyy :)
