Teehee hello hi I have Kana fic. It takes place during her paralog

"DON'T HURT MY PAPA!" Kana shrieked and shrieked.

Her throat hurt. She never yelled, hardly spoke louder than a whisper, but now she feared for her father's life. It was supposed to be a nice visit, why were these people here!?

She got some kind of adrenaline rush, she felt as though she could tear the enemies apart with her hands, but it barely lasted a minute. Her hands turned to claws and she grew at least five times taller. She killed at least a dozen beasts with a single swipe of her claw, but the energy became far too much and she collapsed, all her senses fading as she could just faintly hear her mother, aunts and uncles arrive.

She slowly opened her eyes, first noticing just how heavy her limbs were. She tried to move, but couldn't.

"Oh shushu, don't strain yourself," such a sweet voice said.

"Mama?" Kana said.

"I'm here, I'm here," Rinkah whispered, carefully hugging her beloved daughter.

Her mother was so sweet, always so loving and caring despite everyone else saying she was terrifying. Maybe that rage she always carried dissappeared when she was with a being as small and lovely as Kana.

Kana didn't notice she was crying until Rinkah wiped away her tears.

"It's okay, those monsters are gone," she whispered.

"I wanna see papa."

"I know, shushu, I'll go get him."

Rinkah placed Kana down once more, careful not to disturb the bandages she finally realized she had. As the door shut, Kana managed to just barely lift her arm. There were bandages from her shoulder to the tips of her fingers, and it ached. She let her arm fall once more, staring at the wall while she waited.

This room was unfamiliar, unlike anything they had in her homeworld. Perhaps her parents had finally brought her home? She had been excited for this day, but dreaded it as well. She understood their decision to keep her away from the war, but she resented them for hardly being there at all. The ones who had taught her to speak, walk, love and fight had been maids and tutors, not her mama or papa.

But when the door opened and a tearful Archibald entered, Kana forgot everything else. She could complain later, she needed to hug her papa now. He held her as tight as he could and she wept in his arms. Her mama joined them. For once, the family was all together. Perhaps now that Kana was old enough, she could fight alongside her parents and help end this conflict that had so mercilessly torn them apart.

Reconciliation

Old dome squadmates Trito and Kinoga get together at Trito’s place to catch up after years apart and a meeting by chance on the surface.

For the lore, includes stuff from splatoon Octo Expansion: Trito and Kinoga were a part of an octarian military squad living in the domes, Kinoga being their squad leader that many looked up to and admired. There were 6 of them who considered each other to be their closest friends. Upon hearing about the tests from Kamabo Co. and the allure of the Promised Land, Kinoga wished to seek it out in order to find a better life for their squadmates. A difficult decision, since it meant leaving them all behind, promising to come back and take them there.

Kinoga enters the metro trials and soon realizes that the Promised Land isn’t what they expected, their hope crumbling when they encounter one of their sanitized squadmates Agara, who followed suit to the metros soon after. Kinoga narrowly escapes, eventually making a break for the surface, carrying the shame of unwilling to return for their squadmates with them (it’s justified, of course, there might not be an easy way in, they might get caught again, Agara is gone)

Trito enters the Metro not too long after Kinoga does, wanting to catch up to them, and an accident that occurs in a test early on results in Trito’s near sanitization, giving him his scar. Terrified, and realizing what happens to his fellow octolings, Trito is unable to return to his squadmates, not wanting to break the news of their loved ones’ untimely fates. He hides away on the Metro until the events of OE happen and Agent 8 dismantles Kamabo, opening an opportunity to escape to the surface. Unwilling to face the possibilities of going back, Trito takes his chance to leave, starting a new life and feeling that it’s for the best if he doesn’t acknowledge it, though he missed his friends dearly.

Years later, Trito and Kinoga run into each other on the streets of Splatsville by chance, and the implications of them both being on the surface and alive hit them, having to carry the burden of leaving their loved ones behind and finding out the truth, knowing the other felt exactly the same, not knowing the fate of their squadmates and not wanting to think about the possibility of them being gone. They have a tearful reunion about it, and set up a meet later, to sit down and really talk, and get into a brief argument when the topic of returning to the domes comes up. Trito’s in disbelief that Kinoga never went back down to check on the rest of their squad, wanting them to have been a better person than him, who was too cowardly to do so. Eventually they do reconcile, and end up at Trito’s place to hook up, where the above comic takes place :]

I AM GOING TO INFO DUMP ABOUT MY LATEST TWOMP AU AND YOU CAN EITHER JOIN ME IN MY FANDOM INDUCED DELIRIUM OR IGNORE ME LIKE AN ANNOYING STREET PREACHER.

I suffer from, "i like to put my guys in any and all kinds of situations" syndrome. It's chronic.

Anyway: The Harbinger AU (is what im calling it for now) I started thinking about this au today on my walk, so don't expect a complete idea. Just stuff I need to scream about. 😭 Anyway, the au- it's like this gloomy, apocalyptic, four horseman inspired type of deal, where Argos, Mr. Plant, Mr. Flower and even Thorn (he's a part of all of my au's and has been for quite some time now and im not sorry, i'm very attached to him) are all these beacons of death and destruction and the sole reason for their existence is to bring an end to all life. But they don't know it. Not right away at least, and it takes them a long time to put all the pieces together cause that would be one hell of a conclusion to come to right away. All they know is, for as long as they can remember, strange and awful things happen all around them all of the time. They are like conduits for bad luck, just spreading it like a disease to everyone around them at all times and they've always been helpless to stop it. The bad shit they cause for people starts out small and always out of their control. Family members experiencing financial crisis, friends always getting hurt or in trouble around them, people losing things. But the longer people spend around them, the more the misfortune snowballs until it rolls up into a tragedy. "School bus driver passes out at the wheel, collision with oncoming train. Students on board and no survivors." "Local high school evacuated due to dangerous chlorine related incident. Swim team in critical condition." "Small town man kills entire family, leaves cryptic message on living room wall and commits suicide." Etc. And the older they get, the worse the incidents become. They start to effect things on a grander scale and start to realize they can do things people shouldn't be able to do. Manipulate people and the world around them in unnatural ways, like a maestro guiding their orchestra. And at first they try to use this to help people around them, to try to prevent tragedy from striking, but it never seems to work. Always the same outcome. Misfortune after misfortune, followed by some horrible disaster, like fate was sending a message. Trying to let them know. I should clarify also, that all four of them, Argos, Mr. Plant, Thorn, Mr. Flower, experience all of this alone up to a point and only find each other a little later on in life, with some slight exceptions. I like to think Mr. Flower and Mr. Plant find each other in the midst of one of the many disasters they cause. Some kind of trauma bonding perhaps, and they slowly begin to realize that one does not effect the other the same way they effect everyone else. They are immune to each other. And so they remain together. And of course Argos comes in similarly to cannon, absolutely obsessing over Mr. Plant. He's still captivated by the man but I also think he's drawn to him for similar reasons to Mr. Flower and Mr. Plant. He is different. He is unbothered. he is safe. They both are. In fact, I think they're all drawn to each other. Even Thorn blows into the area coincidentally and stumbles on these guys, fully expecting to make trouble for them, but it never comes. And how curious that is. I'd like to think that the four of them are meant to destroy the world together, and that the everyone would be much safer if all of them never found each other but again, they don't know that. What they do know, is that they're finding people who they can't hurt just by being around. For once, they're finding people who won't resent them for their presence and the dread filled pall that hangs over them. And as they cling to one another and learn more about the other, they realize they're all experiencing the exact same thing, and so they all set out to find out if there's a way to stop it, thereby officially and unknowingly, setting in motion the end of all things. This is all I have so far since i just started chewing on this idea today. But i've half wondered about what kind of outcome this would actually end in.

Will there be an end to all things? Or will there be some kind of happy ending? I dunno. I love happy endings as much as I love tragic ones, and as much as I love thinking about the four of them being able to continue on with their lives normally instead of having to worry about stuff, I also daydream about an outcome where they learn their roles and just hang their heads and accept it, thereby becoming active participants in the end of the world. At least they'll die together. I feel like this is one of those au's where you could just easily replace the character's with all original ones lmaoooo. I have a few of those types of stories, but I'm way too attached to these guys to do it. orz Besides, i don't have it in me to make something out of this anyway, so it'll stay in my head until i'm hit with enough energy to do more than just daydream about it.

Some other fun ideas I've played around with for this au include:

Abilities based on their insecurities. I have this other au i've been obsessing over since I joined the twomp fandom, which was like... July sometime? Last year. And we're a few months away from my 1 year anniversary, yay!!!

Anyway, obviously my main focus for that au is Mr. Plant and Argos, but also Mr. Flower and Thorn are also central to the whole thing, and a huge part of the focus for that au is everyone's relationship with each other and the shit they deal with.

In short, the four of them work thru things together and it's messy and it's angsty, and there's drama and distrust and betrayal and murder, etc. etc. you get the picture. I've kind of taken those ideas about them and transferred some of them them over to this au.

Point is, each of them struggle with a lot of things, but there's always one main thing that's like the eye of the storm. The cause of everything else wrong with each of them.

For Mr. Plant it's his dislike of people. It's more of a distrust in the au. Distrust of others, distrust in himself to be able to be around others. So he just avoids. Stays where he can't be seen and bothered until he absolutely has to be somewhere.

And so when things go from bad to worse and Mr. Plant starts to develop unnatural abilities, they feed off of his need to stay in the dark. To stay out of sight.

Like being able to fuck with electricity and even your vision. He can also teleport a little bit. But like- you know the first twomp episode where the narrator is like, "Sometimes Mr. Plants like to be watched, likes to be seen and sometimes he doesn't" (paraphrasing) and he like jumps from the bed to be directly in front of the camera? More like that.

Thorn is similar in that his abilities are meant to conceal in a way. His problem is that he feels he can't measure up. He's got standards set for himself that are far too high, and they're all based on expectations set on him. But he's too proud to admit when he needs help, so he puts on an act all the time. Boastful and loud and always grinning. And always making promises he can't keep.

He's all smoke and mirrors, and so smoke becomes his weapon. The cloud of illusion and confusion. His cigarette smoke will leave your head spinning and unable to tell up from down or if what you're seeing is real or not.

Poor Argos has abandonment issues, everyone around him dying or running away from him. He is unlovable and everyone tells him so in some fashion or another. So he clings to people, obsesses, watches them, learns who they are and what they want and molds himself into their preferred person.

He's become so good at watching and learning and discerning that he can manifest all of one's deepest secrets and desires into a third eye on his subject's forehead, and all he has to do is look into it and everything is laid bare for him.

The downside is that this often leaves the subject in a ruined state of mind, hysteria, severe paranoia, stuff like that.

Mr. Flower's is a very special one, and one that doesn't get used often.

He doesn't like it.

I've always imagined Mr. Flower as the straight man of the group in any au. Always the voice of reason, always trying to make violence a last resort. So i felt this ability he has would be absolutely fun to give him.

I imagine that everyone here- Argos, Mr. Plant, Thorn and Mr. Flower, would eventually come to have issues with other people in some way, given the situation they're in. They've lived a lonely existence up until they found each other. Scared to hurt people, scared to be ostracized, wanting to belong but not wanting to cause problems. Maybe it's caused them to eventually give up on others. Maybe even push people away.

I imagine Mr. Flower being the worst offender for that type of behaviour. To the point where's he's driven someone close to him to commit suicide. And it's always hung over him, always haunted him, always weighed on his mind. For Mr. Flower, it was somehow the worst thing he's ever done to someone despite all the bad luck he's given people, because this felt like the one thing that didn't have to happen.

At least with the bad luck, all that had been completely out of his control. But the suicide... The suicide was directly his fault. All the ways he'd hurt that person, the things he'd done and the words he'd said to them. Until it was too much and then they were gone.

And so i've given Mr. Flower the ability to force people to kill themselves just by speaking it. But the kicker is, he has to know their biggest insecurity to do it. But once he has it, their life is in his hands.

And he hates it.

The way I've always interpreted Mr. Flower is being this tired and high strung kind of guy. He seems rough around the edges, but he's not mean. He's actually very kind and gentle but he can be a bit naggy. He's a worry wort. He and Argos have a lot of similarities in my au's, with the difference being that Argos struggles with overwhelming violent emotions when sufficiently pushed and Mr. Flower does not.

Among other things.

ANYWAY

I like the idea of each of their issues and abilities somehow resembling and/or complimenting one another to further drive home how intertwined they all are. Four separate fates bound together.

Or some silly thing like that.

Anyway, this last part is not set in stone. I'm just babbling. But it's a fun idea even if it gets scrapped later. But if you made it this far then... uh... would you like a pepsi?

yknow limbo works as such a fantastic complement to guda in the sense that both are lesser versions of their contemporaries but guda succeeds where limbo doesn't because guda is more of a nobody than limbo is. limbo is the villain meant to be defeated by abe no seimei and always exists solely in service to that role as the empty rumor of hatred that a rival holds a mere glory kill and thus limbo has never once won in his life, he is called the most pathetic human by koyanskaya because he is fundamentally incapable of change. guda in a similar vein is also the only master left at the start of the grand order and thus the only option available to save humanity, and multiple times throughout fgo gudas lack of experience is called out, culminating in the lostbelt arc where guda is guilt tripped about their journey by koyanskaya and kadoc insults them by saying that if guda could have done it, then feasibly the rest of team A even he himself could have also done it. what kadoc and the rest failed to understand there though is that. yeah, that's literally the point.

the thing is that even when drowned in the guilt of ending the lives of the people in the lostbelts, guda still does want to live. they may be fucked up with the sheer amount of curses and promises that their soul carries, they may be slowly turning into some kind of inhuman being, but guda at the end of the day really just wants to live, wants to keep going on adventures with the people they love, wants to remain human, and in that desire they stay human despite the fact. limbo was able to break ashiya doumans spirit with the simple admission that he would never surpass seimei, that all of his efforts would be for naught and despite his position and accomplishments, he would never be able to match or surpass the rival he loved even once, doomed to a legacy of being nothing more than the shadow that followed a great man. guda on the other hand was perfectly fine being the forgotten hero of the grand order simply because it would mean that romani’s sacrifice wouldn’t have been in vain. it didn’t matter if the rest of the world would never know of their journey, because They knew, and the memories they made are far more precious than any recognition of such. limbo may not know or understand love but even then he doesn't really know what he wants either aside from a vague understanding of a need for importance, and ultimately limbo wants the name ashiya douman to mean something more than just that of the rival abe no seimei once had to cut down, filled himself with various gods and curses and names because he literally just wants to be loved in some way

guda reached their hand out to mash when she was dying and apologized because they knew mash wanted to live, and abe no seimei did the same when the pitiful ashiya douman had attempted to take his own life in despair at the thought of his own evil. limbo may not know love but at the very least, he’s taken his first step in wanting to understand it by watching gudas own path to hell. at the very least, limbo wants to reach hell alongside them. if guda could do it, if guda could reach out their hand in the face of their inevitable meaningless death, then surely the caster of limbo might be able to change as well

Tbh I didnt care much about her in FSR at first cuz isn't she only capable of existing in FGO-verse and getting out of it is blatant cash cow exploitation breaking the rule which I'm not interested in the detail.

Until I realized that this Jalter looks exclusively somber while FGO Jalter always has this smug look. And then there is the theory that either this is just Jeanne but corrupted (which breaks the "Jeanne's so holy any attempt to corrupt her will fail" rule so instead it'll create a new version of Jalter instead of FGO Jalter) or this is a different person altogether.

Announcing “intertwine,” a short visual novel coming to otome jam 2023 🪡

Hi my friends 💖 I’m adding some Alaris updates under the cut to reassure you of development in case you’re worried about otome jam + Alaris!

I’ve been going back and forth on whether to post this or just keep it to myself, but I thought for the sake of transparency, communication with fans, and just normalizing the harder parts of game dev, it would be better to talk about this.

This is NOT bad news about Alaris, so please don’t freak out! But as you all may or may not have figured from my devlogs, I've been struggling with working on Alaris for the past... 2 months? I've made progress on it as much as I'm able to, but I've often found myself coming up against a creative wall and/or burnout. And I often feel like I'm disappointing you all because of it. There are a couple of internal deadlines I had set for myself that I just haven't been reaching lately, and while I know no one is actually rushing me, I feel like I'm dropping the ball.

This is common for a lot of indie developers, but I'm a solo developer. While I have a small team who helps me polish Alaris (i.e., editors, BG artist, GUI artist), at the end of the day, I'm the one who is in charge of everything. I don't have a separate person who can handle building out the art assets, or someone who oversees the writing, etc. And so, to feel like I'm making sufficient progress on Alaris, I'm constantly working on it, whether that's reviewing edits, creating CGs, writing the script, approving art assets/creating briefs for those assets, etc. And I do have a day job haha.

For most of Alaris's development, Alaris was my creative hobby, so I didn't really mind putting so much work into it. But lately, I think because I've been revamping the demo, I feel like I've been in this ~game dev thang~ for two years with no complete product to show for it. And having to go back and redo the demo two years into development is like an extra knife to the gut since it feels like... backward progress almost? Even though I know that's not true.

So while an otome jam project might feel inappropriate given I have Alaris to work on, it's something I've wanted to do since becoming a game dev. And after some encouragement from dev friends, I decided to take the leap because having a different creative outlet might resolve some of my struggles with Alaris. Getting to have one complete project would also be a super huge motivation booster for me!

I'm super happy to say that intertwine has been just what I needed. I've felt more motivated to work on both intertwine and Alaris and my dissertation lmao. As I've mentioned, Druk's route has been giving me a hard time, but I recently made a lot of progress on it. Overall, the creative process has just been coming to me more smoothly. So I'm excited to bring you all a complete game by the end of June as well as, what I hope to be, a lot of really nice progress on Alaris <3
