Look, I love Jon as much as the next person but I think some of you have gone so far along the ‘Jon is a sad little man who did nothing wrong’ route that you’ve genuinely forgotten all the times he held power in a situation or like. Made a decision that hurt people

some notes:

when I found the val poll, husk was already in the lead

there was a short period of time where it was fluctuating between a husk or val lead in the val poll, the highest val got to was 50.5%

val went through multiple rounds of reblogs calling to vote val as well as essays arguing in his favour but still lost

there was never a point in time where vox was losing in his poll

I did not ever reblog with any propaganda or called for anyone to vote vox in the vox poll

the velvette poll started with velvette in the lead, then progressed to a period of time in which husk was in the lead, velvette then retook the lead after a couple reblogs with propaganda

the val poll has the most reblogs at 76 compared to vox (15) and velvette (20)

the velvette poll has around 150-170 less votes than the other two

I started the vox and velvette polls in an attempt to see if there was any bias involved in the voting for the val poll, made for an interesting social experiment

#worm #this is what happens when you write a story where #the power system is actually given out by aliens who don't understand emotions so they can harvest the powered people to avoid entropy #resulting in the protagonist sacrificing herself and basically becoming God to stop them #and the protagonist working for the big bad but them both being too paranoid and controlling to co-exist for long despite the benefits #and the protagonist (despite their ruthlessness and ability to rationalize doing anything) gets wigged out when they fuck up a kid #because they have just sliiiiightly more morals #anyways congrats to wildbow for writing Breaking Bad and Madoka Magica at the same time #ALSO i find it fascinating that despite all existing in the same time there was never a time when they were happening concurrently #Worm aligned pretty neatly with Breaking Bad seasons 4 and 5 (both starting in the summer of 2011 and ending in fall 2013)#but Madoka Magica started in January 2011 and ended in April. There's a LOT of things people do wrong when constructing fantasy beliefs in pantheons of gods, but one of the more specific is having only one god related to fertility and it kind of being just a horny sex thing.

Like you'll have one in the entire bunch whose sphere is listed as fertility and it's basically like Yeah this is the sex one. She's always depicted naked (but not TOO naked because censorship and/or the writer's own skittishness). She's going to have the exact body type epitomized in contemporary western beauty standards and there's usually no chance in hell that she's gonna be fat (unless MAYBE they're referencing 'venus' figurines). Her thing is fertility, which means having sex and making babies. Might be a goddess of beauty or love or marriage too, because these are kinda sex things, but that's probably it. And yeah that sort of thing is virtually nonexistent in real life.

Like the concept of fertility is so fundamentally important to the function of most societies in human history in ways that it is just Not in industrialized imperial core countries. Most people are getting food from stores, and not having to worry about harvesting crops or breeding livestock or foraging for food or having enough animals to hunt, so fertility only really comes up as a concern if you're trying to have kids (and there is certainly societal pressure to have children, but your wellbeing and survival is rarely going to Depend on it). And I think writing only from that perspective and not even trying to learn about WHY fertility is so conceptually important is why you see this trend.

There's no absolute universal statement about how people believe in gods but it's broadly accurate that systems with many deities will Usually have more than one deity associated with fertility, and these associations will certainly include human reproduction but also the fertility of livestock/hunted animals, plants, the land itself.

Some fertility deities may also be heavily associated with seasonal changes or environmental factors that agriculture or foraging is dependent on (spring/summer/fall, seasonal rains, seasonal flooding, rain itself, sunlight, good soil, rivers, wetlands, etc). Some certainly might be related to love, marriage, sex, and beauty, but that's VERY RARELY going to be the sole way the concept of fertility is embodied. And they'll often will have other associations not directly about fertility, or related to fertility in culturally specific ways.

#I think a lot of the time people are using Aphrodite as their sole reference for the concept of Fertility Deity (and even then #not really grasping the nuances of her depiction/worship or place in the broader ancient Greek religious worldview)#Or understanding that she isn't the Only fertility related deity (like jsut off the top of my head there's fertility associations with #Hera + Artemis + Pan + Dionysus + Demeter + Persephone + Priapus and I'm pretty sure I'm missing several here)#Just in general pantheons where there is only one god associated with any given concept are very rare (unless the concept is very specific)#Like a pantheon with dozens of gods will probably have more than one solar deity but might have only one that presides specifically #over a certain crop or something #Also in a wide reaching/long-spanning religion associations might change with time or as a result of religious syncretism #Or gods may be worshipped under specific and/or localized epithets which describe the god specifically as it presides over this #location or the god as it relates to specific parts of its nature.#It might be a little different if you're writing in a context where the gods are a confirmable part of material reality but even then like #unless your gods are extremely active in managing how they're worshipped culture is going to shape their perception.#Also as a side note if you are completely within your power to depict what you want you should probably be okay with depicting #nudity. Like there's always cultural variations in what/how much/under which circumstances nudity is acceptable (and many cases #where personal nudity is not okay but depictions in art are). But the outright refusal to show a Bare Tit or Flaccid Penis even in art is #virtually nonexistent throughout the vast majority and wide span of human history and like realistically speaking there's going to be #Erect Phallus too. Phallic imagery isn't quite Ubiquitous but VERY common across human history like.. You gotta get over it

do you guys think speedsters have calluses, despite their accelerated healing? if anything, i feel like they should BECAUSE of it, since calluses form as a way to heal over repetitive pressure/friction. ig they could also heal anew without calluses, but would there even be enough time in between? with all the running speedsters do, that Repetition would build up over time to be more of a Constant

then again, a part of me thinks that as often as speedsters run, it would still not be enough to counteract how rapidly they heal, esp considering that the speedforce is meant to protect the speedster’s body from friction. barry himself says that he doesn’t wear down his socks any faster than usual when wally gifts him socks every year for christmas. i’m also reminded of knight terrors: flash when barry transforms into a callused creature of a thing bc there’s smth interfering with the speedforce, so his body has to compensate for the friction

huh, so i guess the takeaway is that in a general setting, speedster DON’T get calluses! at least not any more than the average person, probably even less so if at all actually. which now seems obvious in retrospect, but it’s fun going thru the process and showing the work for it lol

#my laptop (or rather the laptop i use daily; technically its the family computer but nobody else uses it) dual boots win7 and win10 #and as a result of that is sometimes goes a bit screwy when you boot it up #the sort of established thing is that i pretty much exclusively use it for windows 7 #and my mum and sister exclusively use it for windows 10 #so this only really affects me #but sometimes when you put it to sleep when it's running win7 #it will go Nuh Uh and not load win7 #so you have to go along with the dialogue #let it reboot when it tells you to #select windows 7 when it turns back on #then it says you need the repair disk #so then you have to hold down the power button until it blinks 3 times #then turn it back on #select windows 7 #and it works perfectly again #it's excellent i love it #yapping

I'm really glad it's not a fandom wiki! since I've heard horror stories about that corporate bloated mess. Why do you prefer wiki.gg btw? I don't know much about various wiki options, sksksks, I just look at the drama with fandom.wiki curiously

that is the correct link, yes! We actually forked from the fandom wiki in November. (though i only started contributing to the wiki directly after the fork)

Honestly, wiki.gg is just a very convenient option! I know ITR handled the entire fork with help from the wiki.gg team. It's an established site and pretty reliable host for the moment (I know people were talking about miraheze being shaky, but I don't really know.) We have support from an established team, we don't need to pay for independant hosting, we get a lot of resources and help, so it's a pretty sweet deal. (Thank you to the bureaucrat who made me admin this week~ mwah~)

All i remember is, I knew the wiki existed, and I said I'm not adding to it till we're off fandom, and boom, we were. (I wasn't the catalyst for it, mind, but I'd like to think I helped motivate the move at least a little bit.) (In the end, we are just one of many wikis that migrated in the wake of the Hollow Knight wiki and the famous mossbag video which motivated many, many wikis to finally ditch fandom).

Actually, watch that video for a good rundown on the troubles with Fandom. The tldr is: way too much censorship, too many ads with no control over them, basically no customization options, absolutely no respect for wiki editors, and the potential that your wiki will be subjected to corporate vandalism with no way out. Fandom sucks!

thinking about how one of the last things john ever tells dean is an admittance that the way he treated him was fucked. & of course this destroys dean and makes it so much harder for him to come to terms w his death right after and with his childhood in general bc he’s spent his entire life chasing after johns approval. he’s spent his entire life telling himself that the way he was treated was okay and justified and that their childhood was good because he could handle it and he was strong enough and that was how it had to be. he’s worshipped john as a hero and seen nothing wrong with any of it. because he’s had to. his entire life is built around this idea there’s nothing else. he’s his dads perfect soldier and punching bag and wife-replacement and suddenly his dads gone & he said he’s sorry and that he shouldn’t have treated dean that way. what the hell is he supposed to do now.
