Chapter Summary: The Avengers walk in on Y/n teaching Peter how to embroider for his Home Economics project, and they decide to spend the day with each other embroidering. Because why not?

“Ow.” Peter muttered and Y/n rolled her eyes at the boy, leaning back on the couch and continuing with her embroidery.
“Ouch.” Y/n dropped her embroidery hoop with an exasperated sigh as she turned to Peter who was completely focusing on his own hoop.
“Peter, I told you that you could use the thimbles. There’s no shame.” Y/n said and Peter dropped his own hoop onto his lap and sent the older woman a sad look.
“But it looks stupid and they mess with my grip, so I keep dropping it.” Peter said and Y/n let out a sigh, shaking her head as she reached into the sewing kit (which really was just a cookie tin) and pulled out the small case of thimbles.
“It’s either that or you keep bleeding from your fingers cause you can’t aim the needle for shit. Now go on, pick whatever color you want.” Y/n said, shaking the box and handing it to Peter who let out a sigh but reluctantly got the red and blue thimbles, putting them on his fingers before continuing.
“Well, hello, grandmas. Do you guys want some tea and biscuits? Maybe some hard candy while you’re at it.” Tony said when he walked into the living room to see Peter and Y/n doing embroidery.
“Ha, ha, get some original jokes, why don’t you?” Y/n muttered, not looking up from her hoop.
“Mr. Stark, look! I’m making the Avengers logo.” Peter said, raising his embroidery hoop towards Tony with a proud look on his face.
He was still in the process of filling out his sketch and a lot of the stitching was very messy, some thread being loose, but it was a work in progress. Besides, it was Peter’s first attempt.
“Wow, looks just like it.” Tony said, barely even glancing at the embroidery, but Peter grinned anyway and went back to work.
“Look what I’m making.” Y/n said, raising her own hoop to show Tony with a proud smile on her face. It was a very flowery and pink middle finger.
“You have such talent.” Tony said with a roll of his eyes as he took his jacket that was laying on a chair.
“Thank you, I agree.” Y/n said as she went back to her own work.
“Another home ecs project, Peter?” Natasha asked as she walked into the room, going over to a bookshelf and skimming through all the covers.
“Yep! I’m planning to make a few more after this so I can give some to Ned and MJ.” Peter said, poking his finger once more but was happy to see that the thimble he put on protected him.
“I don’t understand why a science school is teaching it's students how to embroider. Shouldn’t you be learning robotics or something?” Tony asked as he put his jacket on before looking for his keys.
“Well, I think it’s great they’re giving you kids the chance to learn other skills. Hobbies are good so you don’t always put all your energy into work.” Y/n said and Peter looked up and smiled at the woman.
“Hey, speaking of hobbies! You should join me and Ned! We got this new lego set, and I was thinking-”
“Absolutely not. Get back to stitching.” Y/n said with a smile and Peter nodded.
“Yes, ma’am.” He said and the two continued with their work.
“How do you even have the patience to make all that? Isn’t it tedious?” Natasha asked after finally picking a book and sitting down on the couch as she watched the two continue their work.
“Most things are, but depending on the person, it can be relaxing.” Y/n said with a shrug and Peter nodded in agreement.
“I like it. It’s nice making pretty things and being able to say you made it.” Peter said and Natasha let out a hum, continuing to watch the two.
“Do you want to give it a shot, Nat?” Y/n asked after a few minutes of silence with Natasha just watching them.
“Sure, why not.” Natasha said with a shrug, setting down the book she didn’t end up reading.
“I mean, how hard can it be?” Natasha said and Y/n smiled, grabbing the bag on the table and rummaging through it before taking out another embroidery hoop.
“What design do you want to make?” Y/n asked and Natasha furrowed her eyebrows in thought.
“I don’t know? Anything, I guess.” Natasha said and Y/n smiled and reached into the bag once more.
“I have some stencils. Pick one, sketch it out on the cloth, then tell me when you’re done. I’ll teach you how to thread a needle and some basic stitches.” Y/n said, handing all the materials to Natasha who let out a huff.
“I know how to thread a needle.” She mumbled as she looked through the stencils, picking out a design.
“Oh, god. Don’t tell me you’re becoming old like them.” Tony said in a disappointed tone when he walked back in to see that Natasha had joined in after finding his keys.
“Shush. Don’t listen to him, Nat. This will be a fun experience.” Y/n said, encouraging Nat who raised an eyebrow at her.
“It’ll be an experience, alright.”
“Well, while you grandmas waste your day creating pictures with thread, I’m going out socializing. You know, like a normal adult.” Tony said and the three gave lazy goodbyes as Tony left.
Y/n developed a hobby for embroidery during that time when she was on the run. She was in a park sitting next to an old woman who was crocheting something. Y/n hadn’t paid her any mind until the woman made conversation, saying she could tell that Y/n needed a distraction.
She offered to teach her how to crochet, and Y/n accepted. Though it seemed like crochet was a bit too advanced, because Y/n’s frustrations got the better of her. Y/n thought she had driven the poor old woman away, but the next day, she found her on the same bench with an embroidery kit.
She taught Y/n and gave it to her as a gift, and Y/n has been embroidering to pass the time and keep her calm ever since. When Peter came up to her and asked her if she knew anything about embroidery, she was absolutely delighted and couldn’t wait to teach the boy everything she knew.
Leading to now.
“Brucey, join us!” Y/n called out happily when she saw Bruce walk in carrying a box of a bunch of things she didn’t care about.
“Oh, are you guys embroidering? That looks fun, but I’m a bit busy right now.” Bruce said, emphasizing the box in his hands.
“Come on, you’ve been working all day. Take a break, you can continue whatever you’re doing later. Maybe this time you’ll finish your last piece.” Y/n said, her words grabbing the attention of Natasha and Peter.
“Last piece?” Natasha asked in confusion.
“Dr. Banner, do you embroider too?” Peter asked in excitement and the scientist smiled sheepishly.
“Just recently. Y/n taught me, told me it was a good stress reliever.” Bruce said and Y/n grinned at him.
“And it works, right?” Y/n asked and Bruce laughed as he nodded his head.
“You know what? Sure, I’ll join you guys. Let me just put this away, I’ll be back in a sec.” Bruce said as he walked back and Y/n smiled happily.
A few minutes passed and Bruce came back with these cartoonishly large glasses on his face that magnified his eyes to make it look incredibly large.
“What?” Bruce asked, furrowing his eyebrows when Peter was shaking, trying desperately to hold his laugh while Natasha was looking away, hand covering her mouth to hide the smile and potential laugh bubbling up.
“What in the hell are you wearing?” Bruce jumped when a voice appeared behind him. He turned to see Bucky who was looking at him in confusion while Sam was next to him, laughing his ass off as he held onto the wall to keep himself up.
“Oh my god, that is the best thing I’ve ever seen. Smile!” Sam said, taking his phone out and wrapping his arm around Bruce’s shoulder and taking a selfie with him, giving a thumbs up with his tongue sticking out before taking the photo.
“Give him a break. Bruce, I think you look great and you’re very practical.” Y/n said and Bruce smiled happily at the girl.
“Thank you, Y/n.” He said, walking over to the three on the couch and setting himself down, taking out his unfinished embroidery and grabbing a hoop from the bag on the table.
“Ooh, is this a knitting circle or something?” Sam asked, situating himself behind the couch and looking at whatever the four were doing.
“Embroidering, actually. See, knitting is really different from embroidery, but they have similarities like-”
“Okay, kid. A simple no would have been fine.” Sam cut off Peter from rambling.
“Would you two gentlemen like to join us?” Y/n asked, looking at the two who glanced at each other.
“I’ll pass. I don’t think I’d be any good at it.” Bucky said and Y/n waved her hand dismissively in response.
“Of course you can’t see yourself being good at it now, you don’t know anything about it at all. But if you try, you could surprise yourself.” Y/n said and Bucky shifted uncomfortably where he stood.
“It just seems like such a… Delicate thing. And I’m not.” Bucky said and Y/n pouted at the statement.
“Nonsense, man. Come on, get your sewing pants on, we’re gonna do some stitching.” Sam said, grabbing Bucky’s shoulders and leading the reluctant man over to the couch.
“Really?” Natasha raised an eyebrow at Sam’s willingness.
“Yeah, why not? Besides, I want to make what Y/n’s making.” Sam said, pointing to Y/n’s embroidery which caused the girl to grin and sit up, high fiving the man who laughed.
“What do you say, Bucky?” Y/n asked, turning to the man who still looked hesitant. But seeing the encouraging looks on everyone’s face that was directed towards him made him sigh.
“Fine. But it’s not gonna be good.” He said reluctantly as he sat down next to Sam.
“We’ll just have to wait and see. Now, pick a stencil. Y/n said, taking a bunch of stencils and spreading them out on the table.
They were all silently embroidering, occasionally making comments and asking Y/n for help, but it was mostly peaceful. Y/n glanced over at Nat who had been continuously huffing the past fifteen minutes.
When she looked over, she saw that Nat was actually blowing her hair out of her face. Every time she tried though, it kept falling back, and it was irritating her to no end. When Nat realized that someone was staring at her, she raised her head and furrowed her eyebrows at Y/n who was smiling at her.
“What?” She asked and Y/n simply reached back into the bag on the table and took out a black headband.
She got up from where she was sitting and kneeled in front of Natasha, about to put the headband on her when the woman flinched and grabbed her wrists to stop her.
“What do you think you’re doing?” She asked with a raised eyebrow and Y/n rolled her eyes.
“Helping you. Your hair is obviously bothering you, and this will help keep it out of your face. Just look at me and Bruce.” Y/n said.
It was then that Natasha finally took notice of both of their appearances. Y/n’s hair was in a bun with a garter used as a headband keeping her hair back while Bruce had one of those large toothy hair clips holding his hair. She hadn’t noticed that because the huge goggles were distracting.
“Come on. It’ll help you work better, and you’ll look pretty while doing it.” Y/n said and Natasha stared at the girl for a moment before sighing and taking the headband and putting on.
“Better?” Y/n asked with a teasing smile on herself. Nat looked away and nodded in embarrassment. Y/n didn’t want to push it, so she just patted Nat’s shoulder and went back to her seat.
“We had headbands this whole time? I’ve been trying to push my hair away for the past few hours.” Peter said when he saw the headband on Natasha’s head.
“Don’t worry, Peter. I have more.” Y/n said, reaching into the bag again and taking out a soft cotton headband that had bunny ears on them.
“Oh, nice!” Peter said, catching the headband when Y/n threw it and eagerly putting it on.
“How do I look?” Peter asked, raising his arms out and Y/n smiled and gave him a thumbs up.
“You look great, buddy.” Y/n said and Peter smiled once more.
“Hey, that’s not fair. I want a headband that makes me look pretty too.” Sam said when he noticed almost everyone had something to keep their hair in order.
“As pretty as you already are, Sam, I’m afraid a headband won’t do that much for you.” Y/n said, patting Sam’s head and the man rolled his eyes.
“How bout you, Bucky? Want to feel pretty?” Sam asked, nudging the man with his elbow which caused him to grunt because it made him poke himself with the needle.
“I’m good. My hair’s short enough that it isn’t distracting.” He said and Y/n nodded and they all went back to what they were doing.
“Is there a meeting we weren’t told about or something?” Everyone looked up to see the twins walk into the room with both a confused and amused look on their faces.
“It’s rare to see everyone in the same room like this. Especially with everyone… Embroidering?” Wanda asked, not sure how to feel about the sight before her.
“You guys formed a little club and didn’t even think to inform us about it?” Pietro asked with an offended gasp, placing a hand on his chest with a dramatic hurt look on his face.
“You’re very much welcome to join us if you guys want to. There’s plenty of room for everyone.” Y/n said with a smile and the twins glanced at each other before looking back at them.
“Eh, sure.” Wanda said with a shrug, going over to join them.
“I have no plans.” Pietro said, following after his sister.
“Here.” Y/n said, reaching into the bag and pulling out two hair ties which she handed to the siblings.
“You guys might need it.” The two looked around to see that everyone else had their hair up and before taking the hair ties without another thought.
Wanda tied her hair into a tight ponytail while Pietro pulled back the top part of his hair and tied it off before sitting down.
“What else do you have in that bag, Y/n?” Bruce asked, finally taking note of how much Y/n pulled out from that bag in the span of such a short time.
“It’s never ending. There’s a black hole inside; I reach in, and it gives me whatever I need.” Y/n said, wiggling her arms mysteriously at Bruce who chuckled and shook his head.
A few more minutes passed by with everyone doing their embroidery. They didn’t realize it yet, but they were all very much enjoying this time just embroidering with everyone even though they weren’t speaking. But Y/n noticed, and she couldn’t stop the constant smile on her face because of it.
“Pietro, give me the red thread. You’ve been hogging it this whole time.” Wanda said in an annoyed tone, slapping her brother’s arm.
“But I need it!” Pietro complained and Wanda rolled her eyes.
“Then take what you need, but don’t hog it! I need to use it too.” Wanda said and Pietro gestured over to the amount of thread on the table.
“There are so many red over there, take one of those and get off my ass about it.” Pietro said, shoving his sister’s head away.
“I need that specific shade!” Wanda said, shoving her brother back.
“Y/n, is this okay?” Bucky asked, ignoring the rowdiness of the twins as he showed Y/n his work. The girl looked up from her hoop and gasped when she saw Bucky’s.
“Bucky, this is so pretty! I didn’t even teach you how to outline, but you did so good! See, if you never tried this out, you would’ve never found out you had this talent in you. You’re a natural.” Y/n complimented with a proud smile and Bucky sent the girl a small smile of his own before going back to finish his flower.
“What about mine, Y/n? You think it’s cool?” Sam asked, showing Y/n the pizza he was making on his.
“Oh, did you think of that on your own? I don’t think I have that stencil. Good job, I love creativity!” Y/n said, patting Sam on the shoulder and giving him a grin which made the man smile happily.
“Hear that? I’m creative.” Sam said to Nat who let out a light chuckle in response.
When the front door creaked open, everyone stopped what they were doing and their eyes fell on their team leader who walked in with a tired look on his face, hanging his keys on the rack and taking off his jacket.
Realizing the silence, Steve turned to the living room, shocked to see that everyone was gathered together… With their hairs tied up and embroidering? They all stared at each other and Steve simply shook his head and approached everyone.
They watched as the man sat down with a huff and reached to grab the bag on the table, looking inside and ruffling through it before taking out two blue and red hair clips with sequences and butterflies on them. They watched as the man put them in his hair in wonder before he grabbed some cloth and an embroidery hoop of his own.
“Pass the blue thread, please.” He said and just like that, everyone went back to what they were doing. Y/n passed the thread that Steve needed and gave the man a smile which he thankfully returned.
“Long day?” She asked and a small laugh left Steve’s mouth.
“You could say that.” Steve said and Y/n gave him a supportive smile, patting his leg before leaning back into the couch.
“No. No. No.” Everyone looked up when Tony walked into the compound, disappointed that Y/n had managed to convince everyone to join her little sewing circle.
“God, how old are you people? It’s a Friday night, the world is quiet, and instead of drinking and having fun, you’re all embroidering.” Tony said and they all stared at him for a moment before swiftly ignoring him.
“Steve, knock some sense into these people for me, would you?.” Tony said, trying his best to ignore the shiny hair clips in Steve’s hair.
“If you can’t beat them, join them, Tony. Try it, you might like it.” Steve said with a shrug, continuing his work and showing it to Natasha who nodded in approval before showing Steve her own work.
Tony let out a scoff in disbelief, watching as everyone continued to do their embroidery. They were a team of the most dangerous people on Earth, meant to be protectors of the world. Yet here they were, wasting time and-
“Oh, whatever.” Tony said with a roll of his eyes as he went over to sit on the floor because the couch was full, grabbing an embroidery hoop of his own and starting with his own work.
Y/n hid the smile on her face as she looked around her, watching everyone be too focused in their embroidery to notice she was staring. This was nice. Y/n wished they had more moments like these. But instead of wishing for more, she’ll just enjoy what she already has.

You had met and become great friends with Yelena during your shared time in the Red Room. While you had somehow gotten out during a mission, she had not.  You had started a new life, of course you though back of Yelena and your fellow widows. Wanting to help them, but not being able to. How could you help them if you didn’t even know where the Red Room was located? Besides not knowing where it was, you also had no connections to people whatsoever. Who would believe a girl with no known background?
You started building a life of your own a couple years after your escape you had met Kate at the pizza place around the corner. She had immediately caught your attention. When you started talking to her you knew she was special. She asked you out on a date. Your previous live hadn’t exactly thought you how to be a proper partner, but Kate was patient.
After being together for two years you decided to move in with Kate in her apartment above the pizzeria the two of you had met. Just a couple months after you moved in you got a call from Kate, asking if you could come home as soon as possible. She didn’t want to share why, just that you had to come home right away.
Meanwhile at the apartment Kate was sitting face to face with none other than Yelena Belova. Kate however didn’t know that all she knew was that someone had just broken into her home and was asking her about what she had done with you, why she was holding you hostage, what her plan was. All of it being very strange to Kate. When she told the stranger she didn’t know what she was talking about and that you were her girlfriend and not someone that she took hostage, Yelena still didn’t believe her.
When you got home you couldn’t believe your eyes. Yelena was sitting in your apartment eating mac and cheese, your eyes watered seeing your best friend after so many years. “Yelena, how- What-“ you weren’t able to form a proper sentence. “Y/n! Let’s get out of here, you no longer need to be held hostage by Kate Bishop.” That’s when you realized why Kate had sounded so confused and insisted on you coming home.
“No no, Kate is my girlfriend. I live here.” You quickly say as you see Yelena stepping between Kate and you, holding out her hand. Noticing the bracelets with widow bites you quickly add, “by choice.”
You lower her hand with yours, “I promise you, I’m safe. Kate isn’t a thread.” With that you turn around and see a very confused Kate. You hadn’t exactly told her about your life as a Widow. Sure, she knew you had a troubled childhood, you told her you moved from family to family growing up. Which wasn’t a lie, you did, you got sent on mission after mission to different parents. Just you told it as if you were in foster care.
That night you spent around the table telling Kate about the parts of your life that she didn’t know about yet. It took a bit for her to come around, but ultimately she understood why you hadn’t shared this before.
Half a year had passed, and Yelena had found a place nearby, you and her were closer than ever. You had caught each other up on the parts of your lives that you had spent separate from each other. And made a deal to never part ways like that again.
It had also felt good to tell Kate the truth, for her it certainly explained why you had such struggles with maintaining relationships. In a way it had made the two of you closer. You had however not noticed that Kate wasn’t always very fond of Yelena. Until today that is.
You had invited Yelena over for lunch and a movie at the apartment. You hadn’t mentioned it to Kate since she was away for a couple of days on a work trip. But Kate got back a day earlier to surprise you and came home to you hugging Yelena. It was just a hug between two friends who were saying bye for the day. But Kate hadn’t fully trusted Yelena since she had broken into her home.
“Step away from my girlfriend.” Kate says with a stern tone. Yelena takes a confused step to the side, “What’s wrong Kate Bishop?” Kate found it very annoying that Yelena kept using her full name, but now was not the time to tell her off. “What’s wrong is that you’re standing oddly close to my girlfriend. Did you think that just because I was away, you could just sweep in and do your thing?” Yelena looked Kate up and down, “My thing? I mean I was doing my thing if that means saying bye to my best friend after watching a movie, sure.”
Kate now looks at you with a raised eyebrow, needing to hear it from you herself. “That’s really all it was Kate, I swear. We just watched a movie and had lunch. I basically talked Lena’s ears off about how much I am missing you and how excited I am that you’d be coming home soon.”
Kate gets quiet, realizing her mistake. Making you step forward and place your hands on her shoulders, “Kate you’re the only one for me. You’ll never have to worry about me leaving, alright?” Kate nods. You place a kiss on her lips and feel her kiss back. Both breaking into a smile when Yelena adds, “Plus, y/n is like my sister.”
Yelena decided to stay a while longer so the three of you could talk. Kate sharing her reasoning behind getting jealous and Yelena sharing that she would absolutely never come between the two of you. And of course, you making sure Kate know she’s the only person you want to be with.

You plopped onto the couch, tired and irritable after a particularly frustrating day at work. Your girlfriend raised an eyebrow, silently questioning what put you in such a funk.
You didn't explain, just stared at her and said, "If you don't give me cuddles, you're literally homophobic."
Yelena let out a bewildered laugh and joined you on the couch, pulling you against her and threading her fingers through your hair. "I am gay, (Y/N/N)."
"And?" you replied, voice muffled against her chest. "I said what I said."
Yelena didn't press the point, just shook her head and let out another laugh. "What happened, lovey?"
"Nothing. Everything. I dunno. Work was just sucky."
"I understand. Do you want to watch something?"
"Yeah. Put on the gay Barbie movie."
"Diamond Castle or the mermaid one?"
"Diamond Castle."
Yelena put in the movie and joined you back on the couch, snuggling against your side.
"I like this movie cause it reminds me of us," you said as it started.
"Why?" Yelena said with a laugh. "Because we are gay?"
"Well, yes. But more specifically because you're a blonde lesbian, like Liana, and I'm your bisexual girlfriend, like Alexa."
Yelena burst out laughing, then pecked you on the lips. "I love you."
"I don't blame you. I'm the best."
Yelena poked you in the side.
"Fine! Sorry! Sorry! I love you too."
"I do not blame you. I am the best."
You poked her in the side.

The Adventure of Y/n Barton and Yelena Belova Masterlist
Summary: Set in The Adventure of Y/n Barton and Yelena Belova AU
After the events of Lagos, you try to cheer Wanda up but she won't listen to you as she believes everything the media is calling her. You come up with the idea to have Natasha talk to her and play a little match maker while trying to help a friend. OR How Natasha and Wanda started dating in this AU.
Warnings: depression, guilt, suicide attempt, self-hatred
Word Count: 3.3k
‘Come on,’ You said, jumping onto Wanda’s bed. The force almost sent you and the Sokovian off the bed. ‘We could watch one of your sitcoms or we could go for a walk in the woods. Hey, I could turn into an elephant and let you ride on my back and you know how I feel about elephant rides.’ The usual joke didn’t pull a smile or laugh out of her. After the fight in Sokovia and their battle against Ultron, Natasha called you to see if you could spend some time at the compound. A quick visit back home to welcome the newest addition to the Barton Family and you were headed to Upstate New York. Your father officially retired from the Avengers but they were still your family. Natasha asked you to befriend the newest member of the team, who lost her brother and home country in one day. Befriending the brunette was easy, both having a deep understanding of being different. Although you were born with these gifts and she was given them. You spent your time together watching sitcoms, reading, and cooking. Wanda was a great cook while you fumbled your way around the kitchen. With the new found friendship, Wanda came out of her grief and shell. Then Lagos happened and it was back to square one, the media was not helping.
‘I really don’t want to do anything.’ Wanda said she was playing with the loose threads of the sweater she was wearing. The sweater belonged to Natasha. You smiled at the crush Wanda had on the Black Widow.
‘It wasn’t your fault.’ You found yourself saying. Wanda’s head snapped around to face you. ‘You tried to save those people.’
‘That’s not what the news is saying about me.’ She grabbed the TV remote and unmuted the news that was replaying the event that took place. You didn’t turn to watch it but kept your eyes on your friend. You listened as the newscaster called your family, villains, monsters, treating them as if they were the bad guys. You reached for the remote and turned it off.
‘You can’t let them change how you see yourself.’ You went to grab her hand but she pulled it away from you. You frowned.
‘I think they are right. I’m not a hero. I’ve just been fooling myself.’
‘Wanda-’
‘I want to be alone.’ She said, looking at you. ‘Please.’ You nodded and stood up.
‘You know where to find me if you need me.’ She nodded, laying back down and pulled a blanket over her shoulders. She stared out the window that overlooked the woods that surrounded the compound. You sighed and walked out of her room, closing the door behind you. You rested your head on the door.
‘How is she?’ You turned your head towards the voice. Natasha was standing there, her hair wet from a shower.
‘She’s,’ You struggled to come up with a word. ‘She has a lot of guilt. Nothing I said got through to her.’ Natasha nodded and waved you over to the kitchen. You followed the Black Widow and sat in an empty bar stool. Natasha went through the pantry and grabbed peanut butter, jelly, and bread. ‘Are you making me one?’ Natasha nodded, rolling her eyes. You smiled as Natasha placed a paper plate with a sandwich in front of you.
‘It wasn’t her fault.’ Natasha said, cutting her sandwich in half then making herself another one. You nodded, licking the peanut butter off your fingers.
‘I told her that.’ Your mouth was full of peanut butter so it wasn’t the easiest to understand. Natasha glared at you and poured you a glass of milk from the fridge.
‘Nathaniel has better table manners than you.’ You rolled your eyes, washing the peanut butter down with milk.
‘You are biased because my parents for some reason named him after you.’
‘Am I or am I not the one that saved you from being kidnapped?’ You huffed, leaning back in your chair.
‘You are never going to let me live that down.’ Natasha shook her head. ‘I was a child! That seems unfair.’ She smirked, laughter bubbling in her eyes. You laughed, shaking your head. ‘I will repay you one day, all mighty Black Widow.’ She flipped you off as she began to eat her sandwich. You both sat in silence as you were in deep thought about Wanda. Then a light bulb went off in your head. ‘I think you should talk to Wanda.’
‘Me?’ She questioned. You nodded. ‘You know hero speeches are more Steve’s thing.’
‘She doesn’t need a hero speech. What she needs is more people in her corner to make her believe she is not a monster. One voice, my voice,’ You pointed to yourself. ‘Isn’t loud enough to drown out all the noise.’
‘Why me?’ Natasha asked. You leaned forward.
‘You are the best person to do it because I know you have a crush on her.’ Natasha’s eyes went wide.
‘I do not.’ Natasha defended.
‘Do to.’
‘Do not.’
‘Do to!’ You said. ‘Come on Natasha I see the way you look at her and you don’t let anyone borrow your clothes, not even Lila and I.’ Natasha crossed her arms. You knew she was putting her walls up.
‘That’s because you and Lila wanted to play dress up and I didn’t want smelly children wearing my clothes.’ Your jaw dropped.
‘First, rude.’ Natasha rolled her eyes. ‘Second, I know it’s true and this could be your perfect opportunity. She is being all sad and depressed and wearing your sweater might I add. You could go in and make her smile and tell her how you see her. I mean don’t take advantage of her vulnerability.’ You gasped, slamming your hand down. ‘I could have another cool aunt who was my best friend first. It will be so cool. I’ll tell the story at your wedding. I-’
‘Y/n,’ Natasha cut you off. ‘I don’t see her like that. Love is for children.’
‘That is bullshit.’
‘Language.’ She gasped. You rolled your eyes, smiling.
‘That concept was taught to you by an organization that tried to control you. But they are gone and free to love openly and beautifully.’
‘Miss. Barton,’ Friday said. ‘This is your 5 minute reminder about your class.’ You groaned.
‘Thank you, Friday.’ You said to the AI. ‘I mean it Nat. They don’t control your life anymore.’ You stood up, threw away your plate and placed the glass cup in the dishwasher. ‘You control it.’
*
The compound was quiet as everyone turned in for the night. After your little talk, Natasha got pulled into meetings. The events at Lagos created a lot of fires that needed to be put out. So while everyone slept, Natasha roamed the halls with a take out container filled with mac and cheese. Wanda didn’t show for dinner and your words were playing on repeat in the Black Widow’s head. ‘You are free to love openly and beautifully.’ Natasha rolled her eyes. Yeah because giving her heart to someone worked so well last time. She had no idea if Bruce was even alive. Natasha sighed as she stood in front of Wanda’s door. Her heart started to beat rapidly, she felt it pound against her rib cage. She huffed. She was the Black Widow, she did not get nervous and she did not have a crush. She was being a good teammate and checking in one a team member after a hard mission. Natasha knocked on the door.
‘Wanda, you weren’t at dinner,’ Natasha winced how pathetic that sounded. ‘I have food and maybe we can watch a movie.’ No response. ‘Look what happened wasn’t your fault, okay?’ Natasha jiggled the handle and it was locked. ‘FRIDAY, where is Wanda?’
‘Miss. Maximoff is on the roof of the compound. She appears to be upset.’ Natasha’s stomach dropped. She ran to the elevator, placing the container on the counter. The elevator door opened and Natasha stepped in, pushed the button to the roof.
‘FRIDAY, hurry up.’ The elevator increased in speed and Natasha grabbed onto the railing to keep her balance. The elevator stopped and the doors opened. Natasha stopped onto the roof looking up at the sky. On any other night, Natasha would marvel at the night stars but the stars would have to wait. She scanned the roof and saw the silhouette of Wanda standing on the ledge. Natasha carefully walked over to her. ‘Wanda.’ The Sokovian spun around, her eyes wide.
‘Natasha.’
*
Wanda has known pain. She lived in a war torn country her whole childhood, falling asleep to the sound of gun fire and bombs exploding. She had gone nights without dinner because her parents couldn’t afford food. She survived a bomb that hit her house and killed her parents. She endured HYDRA’S experiments. She grieved for her brother, her country, and her mistakes. Wanda has known pain and overcame it. But this pain was different as she watched the news call her a killer. It was all consuming. It was suffocating. It was too much. So as the compound got quiet and the lights turned off, she locked her door and made her way to the roof.
As the elevator doors opened and the crisp New York air filled her lungs, she stared up at the stars. She never realized how many stars there were in the night sky. The smog of Sokovia covered the stars. She walked over to the ledge and jumped onto it. She wondered if anyone would notice if she disappeared tonight as she put her arms out and began to walk. Probably Y/n, she thought. Sweet and caring. Y/n’s heart was made of gold. Tears began to form and blur Wanda’s vision, it was becoming hard to see.
She wondered if anyone would chase her and say the words she needed to hear. That she wasn’t a burden. She stopped walking and stared at the woods. That she wasn’t worthless, or a monster, or a killer. Gods, she missed her brother.
Would anyone care, would anyone cry if she stepped off this ledge tonight? ‘Wanda.’ The sound of her name caused her to turn around. Through her tears she saw someone she didn’t expect.
‘Natasha.’
*
Natasha’s heart tripled in speed. She could hear it in her ears. She took a tentative step forward. ‘What are you doing?’ Wanda asked.
‘I was looking for you,’ Natasha said. ‘You weren’t at dinner so I went to your room and FRIDAY told me where you were.’ Wanda nodded. She took another step forward, the last thing the Black Widow wanted was to startle her. Her stomach was in knots. She could tell Wanda had been crying. ‘Why don’t you come down and we can get some food?’ Wanda looked at Natasha and down to the ground. ‘Please come down.’ She pleaded.
‘It hurts so much.’ Natasha nodded.
‘I know it does well, I know to some degree.’ Natasha raised her hand and offered it to Wanda. ‘If you come down we can talk. Just please. I am here for you. I am here.’ Wanda stared at Natasha’s outstretched hand. After a tense moment, Wanda grabbed onto it. Natasha pulled Wanda down from the ledge into her arms. The younger woman began to shake as sobs rocked through her body. Natasha gently brought them to the ground as she cried against her chest. ‘It’s okay, dorogoy. Let it all out.’ Natasha knew Wanda needed to let herself cry and feel. The onslaught of emotions didn’t startle Natasha instead she held onto Wanda tighter. Okay maybe she had a small crush on her.
Her sobs turned into small hiccups and soon the only sound was the wind moving through the trees but Natasha didn’t pull away. She enjoyed the feeling of Wanda being close to her. Fuck, she thought, she was going to kick your ass. Natasha looked down and chuckled. Wanda’s eyes were closed, her breathing was steady, and she was fast asleep. Natasha carefully stood up, keeping Wanda in her arms and made her way back to her room.
With FRIDAY unlocking the door, she entered Wanda’s room and gently placed her under the covers. Natasha turned to leave but Wanda grabbed onto her arm. ‘Stay.’ She said, her voice heavy with sleep.
‘Okay.’ Natasha climbed into the bed and Wanda cuddled onto her chest. Natasha let out a shaky breath, trying to calm down her racing heart.
‘I’m sorry.’ She heard Wanda mumble. Natasha hushed her.
‘Sleep, we’ll talk in the morning.’
*
Natasha woke up to the sun shining on her face. She groaned, blinking her eyes a few times. They shifted positions sometime in the night. Wanda was facing the window and Natasha’s arm wrapped tightly around her waist. She could smell the faint strawberry of Wanda’s perfume. She moved to lay on her back, staring at the ceiling which earned a groan from the younger woman. ‘I knew you would be an early riser.’ Wanda mumbled, turning onto her stomach.
‘Well if someone closed the blinds the sun wouldn’t have woken me up.’ Natasha said with a smirk.
‘Natural light is good for you, Tash.’ Her stomach flipped at the nickname.
‘Not this early.’ Wanda giggled, finally looking up at the Black Widow. Her eyes were puffy from crying. Her cheeks were blotchy. But Natasha thought she looked beautiful. She placed her hand on Wanda’s cheek, drawing small circles with her thumb. Wanda leaned into her touch. ‘We have to talk about last night.’ She whispered. Wanda sighed, sat up, and crossed her legs. Natasha mirrored her movement. She watched as Wanda moved to grab her hands, she looked at Natasha for permission. She gave it with a nod of her head and enjoyed the feeling of Wanda’s hands in hers. ‘Would you have jumped if I didn’t stop you?’ She asked. Wanda was staring at their connected hands.
‘Yeah,’ She whispered. Natasha’s throat became very dry. ‘I didn’t think anything would change with me gone. You all would be just fine.’ Wanda let out a shaky breath. ‘The pain got too much. I felt like I was drowning.’ Natasha understood. The media was taking her one mistake and labeled her a monster. It was similar to when people found out what the Red Room taught her and hundreds of little girls. ‘If you only knew what was going on in my head, you wouldn’t want me either.’
‘Well, you’ve seen in my mind and you are okay with it.’ Wanda glared at her. ‘Sorry, it was a poor attempt at a joke.’ Wanda began to smile which Natasha counted as a win. But her smile soon faded.
‘They don’t see the person that I am.’ Natasha knew she was referring to the media. ‘And their view of who I am is clouding who I think I am.’ Natasha watched tears fall down her cheeks. ‘I would give up everything I have just to be good.’ Natasha let Wanda’s confession sit between them.
‘You are good, Wanda, and I know it’s hard to see when so many people are telling you the opposite.’
‘How can you say that after what I did to you and the team?’ She asked. Natasha knew she had a point and at the time Natasha was scared of the woman sitting in front of her. She was angry. But the more she thought about it, the more she realized they weren’t that different.
‘Because at the time you thought you were doing the right thing. But when you were given the chance to do good you took it.’ Natasha sighed. ‘It was the same thing for you, you say it. The Red Room conditioned us to believe we were doing the right thing while doing horrible acts.’
‘Does the guilt ever go away?’ It was a question Natasha found herself asking every day. When was the blood from her ledger going to be cleared?
‘No,’ She answered honestly. ‘But it’s different. You learn to cope with it.’ She dropped one of Wanda’s hands and grabbed it by her wrist. She moved the younger woman’s hand to the side of her head. ‘I’m not afraid of you, Wanda.’ Natasha whispered. ‘So don’t be afraid of yourself.’ Natasha let go of Wanda’s hand and allowed her fingers to dance around her temples. ‘You aren’t alone. Just let me in and let me share your pain.’ Wanda’s chin started to tremble. ‘The world would be changed if you left it behind. You can’t be replaced. So today is the day you take back your life.’ Wanda moved both of her hands to the side of Natasha’s face. She moved to her knees and closer to Natasha, her hands found place on Wanda’s waist. The younger woman was staring down at the Black Widow.
‘I needed a reason to not throw in the fight.’ Wanda whispered. ‘You just saved my life.’
‘My life wouldn’t be the same without you, Wanda Maximoff.’ Wanda smiled, leaning down. Natasha stayed still letting Wanda set the pace. She could feel her breath on her lips.
‘Is this okay?’ Wanda asked. Natasha nodded.
‘Yes.’ It came out a lot breathier than Natasha intended. Wanda nodded. This kiss was soft, brief as they tested the waters. Wanda pulled away, checking in with her but Natasha was missing the feeling of her lips and she chased after them. The second kiss was more passionate. Natasha pulled Wanda closer to her so her front was flushed with hers. She flicked her tongue across Wanda’s lips, asking permission which Wanda granted. She felt Wanda’s hands move through her hair and her moans were being swallowed by Natasha’s lips.
A knock to the door pulled them apart. They stared at each other, chests rising and falling, and eyes blown out wide. Wanda’s lips were red from the kiss and Natasha had half the mind to reconnect their lips when another knock echoed in the quiet room. ‘Wands, you in there.’ You said. ‘You missed dinner so I was wondering if you wanted to get breakfast together.’ Natasha groaned. The brunette giggled at the Black Widow’s annoyance. Natasha gave her a quick kiss and flipped Wanda on her back. She gasped at the sudden movement. Natasha smiled, got off the bed, and walked to the door. She opened it and saw your hand in a fist about to knock again. Your jaw dropped.
‘What’s wrong, malen’kiy yastreb (little Hawk)?’
‘What are-? Where is-?’ Your face morphed into a grin. ‘Holy shit. Yes! Yes!’ You spun around in a circle pumping your fist in the air. ‘If I’m not the maid of honor for one of you I’m gonna be pissed.’ Natasha heard Wanda laugh. ‘I am so proud of you.’
‘Are we done?’
‘Yes, yes, god yes. We’ll hang out later,’ You said over Natasha’s shoulder. You grabbed onto Natasha’s arms. ‘Amazing job. Use protection. I love you both.’ You spun Natasha around, pushed her back into the room, and slammed the door closed. Natasha leaned against the door, blinking. Wanda burst into laughter, her hand trying to cover her mouth.
‘I’m going to kill her.’ Natasha grumbled.
‘No you aren’t.’ Wanda said as her laughter died down to giggles. It was a sound Natasha never wanted to stop hearing. She walked back to the bed and held out her hand. Wanda took it and allowed the red head to pull her to her feet.
‘As much as I’d love to stay in bed, you need to eat.’ Wanda pouted. ‘I’ll make it up to you later.’
‘Oh.’ Wanda whispered, taking a step forward. ‘How are you going to do that?’ Natasha smirked, biting her lip.
‘You’ll just have to be a good girl and find out.’ Wanda let out a soft whimper as Natasha gave her a quick kiss. ‘Come on let’s go eat.’ She heard Wanda let out a shaky breath but followed close behind. Maybe you were right - she was free to love and be loved.

Hearing someone knocking at your door at 11:48 pm was never something you took much comfort in. Especially when there was no previous heads up about it.
You considered not opening door, telling yourself to continue watching your show and not think about the fact that you didn't live in the best neighbourhood.
When the knocking continued you wondered if you should call someone, anyone, but the faint and very much strained sound of your friend's voice had you sprinting across the apartment to open the door.
Yelena was leaning against the door frame, frighteningly pale and looking as tired as someone who had just fought a war on their own. Given her line of work you guessed you weren't that far off.
"Lena you...what happened?" Your eyes fell to her stomach where she was holding her blood stained shirt. You felt faint imagining how bad of an injury she had sustained.
You stumbled backwards and motioned for her to come in before you shut the door behind her and rushed to the bathroom to get your well-stocked first aid kit.
You had meant to go back to the front door to help Yelena into the bathroom but she had already made her way towards you.
"I love that you have such a small appartment." She breathed out. You smiled weakly and supported her weight as you helped her manage the final few steps to your bathroom and sat her on the edge of the tub.
"You should be thankful for the friend that owns it too." You joked as you knelt down infront of her.
"I am." Yelena was quick to say. "I really am." You smiled up at her took her hands away from her shirt before you slowly peeled it away to expose the gun shot wound. You took a sharp intake of breath at the sight of it.
"You need to go to a hospital." You said as you tried to examine it without causing your friend any extra discomfort.
"I can't." You knew better than to push that. It no doubt had something to do with her mission, which meant you weren't allowed to know.
Yelena had never made it a habit of coming to you for medical assistance - especially as you weren't a doctor or nurse. The first time you had done so was when you picked up on her strained walk. You kept bugging her about it until she finally showed you the gash on her calf. It had been easy to clean and healed quickly. After that was a deep cut on her arm, then a burn on her back, then another cut. All of which you noticed. It was only when the injuries were bad that Yelena asked for your help. Too stubborn to ask anyone else and smart enough to know she needed assistance.
You never told Yelena, but you had gone out of your way to learn a little more than the basics on dealing with injuries. Once or twice you had to sneak away from her in your bathroom to double check one of your books to make sure you were doing everything right. Whenever she asked how you knew so much you made up some lie about watching a lot of TV...okay so maybe that wasn't a complete lie.
"Where's the bullet?" You asked, confused by the absence of an exit wound.
"I took it out." Yelena mumbled, she was starting to look worse now.
"Yelena!" You scolded. "No wonder you're bleeding so much." Yelena knew better than to do that but you decided you would investigate that further another day.
You placed a cloth against the wound and held it there with one hand and bit your lip as you glanced up at her.
She's lost a lot of blood...really needs a hospital...are stitches enough?
You didn't want to leave Yelena's side for a second to check one of your books. You weren't sure stitches would cut it, the wound should have been cauterized but you had no experience with that and didn't want to try your luck. Stitches would have to do.
You prepared the needle and thread as Yelena held onto the cloth. Your hand was shaking slightly in anxiety over the situation. You wanted to hear about the mission, about who shot the blonde you cared for so deeply. She wasn't meant to tell you anything, but you needed to hear her voice and it would help her stay conscious so you tried.
"Did you get the jackass who shot you?" You asked as you started to hold the skin in place. Yelena hissed sharply before speaking.
"Of course." Even bleeding out she was smug, what else would you expect from her?
"Mmm, and the mission was a success?"
"It was." You were surprised at the confirmation. "Besides getting shot." She added. You had been trying to keep her attention off of that fact.
Yelena gripped the bathtub tightly and groaned. There had been no time for anaesthetic.
"Almost done." You assured.
You stayed in a concentrated silence as you finished the last stitch. It wasn't perfect, but you had done a good job.
You got up to get a bottle of painkillers from the cabinet and handed them to Yelena with a glass of water. She waved them away at first until she begrudgingly accepted them after a firm look from you.
You carefully cleaned the blood off of her stomach with half a dozen wipes and placed a dressing over the wound as gently as you could manage. It would need constant attention for a while and you could only hope that Yelena would stay with you in that time. You wanted her by your side until she was well. You wanted her by your side when she recovered too. That was a convosation you weren't ready for.
"Thank you, y/n." Yelena said as she struggled to keep her eyes open.
"Let's get you to bed." You said, lifting her arm over your shoulder again to help her up.
"No, you don't have to-"
"Doctor's orders." You insisted, not in the mood to deal with Yelena's stubborness when she could have bled out in your bathroom. There was still a chance that could happen. She could sense your slightly agitated tone - she was superspy and your best friend of years, so of course she could.
"Not a doctor." She muttered as you guided her to your room. You rolled your eyes but didn't manage to stop the small smile creeping onto the corner of your mouth.
"I'll take the couch." She made a move to separate from you but you held onto her waist perhaps a little too desperately to lead her to your room.
"No way."
"It's your house." Yelena said, trying to look at you but you kept your eyes forward, afraid of what she would discover when she read you.
"Then we'll both take the bed." You sighed. Yelena managed a sly smile at your words and you gently nudged her side as you sat her down on your bed. "It's not like we haven't shared a bed before." You said that to yourself more than Yelena, trying not to think about how close you would be during the night and how that would probably keep you awake.
You handed her a spare pair of pajamas and went to leave for the bathroom to change and clean away when you noticed her struggle.
"Let me." You muttered in the least pitiful and condescending tone you could, knowing if she thought she heard some she would reject any further help from you. She nodded so you lifted the stained shirt over her head as carefully as you could, using her breathing patterns as a guide to tell you if she had any discomfort.
"You want that off too?" You motioned to her sports bra and averted your eyes a little too obviously from her toned stomach.
Yelena huffed when she noticed the sports bra, clearly thinking about how much of a literal pain it would be to get off.
"Just get me some scissors." You nodded and grabbed some from your desk and handed them to her, instantly turning on your heals to leave to avoid a sight that would be stuck in you head for the rest of your life.
God, y/n. Don't be such a perv. You mentally scolded as you cleaned and cleared everything away before quickly getting into your pajamas.
You knocked on your bedroom door and heard Yelena tell you you could come in.
Her discarded and very much ruined beyond saving clothes were in a surprisingly neat pile on the floor, you would deal with that the next day.
Yelena was wearing one of your shirts, which looked much better on her, and hadn't bothered with the pajama bottoms. You gulped as you realised you would be sleeping next to her in that.
"You always have your heating on way too high." Yelena mumbled, you smiled sheepishly and let the complaint go as she was clearly not having the best of days.
"I get-"
"Cold easily. I know." Yelena smiled knowingly at you as she pulled the covers over herself and layed on her side facing your side of the bed. You got in next to her and mirrored her position.
"Please don't go disappearing as soon as I fall asleep." You said with a slight pout. It wasn't like she hadn't done that before.
"I'll stay as long as you need me to." Yelena smiled reassuringly at you. You wanted to believe that, but it seemed much more likely that you would wake up without Yelena next to you the next day.
The blonde must have picked up on your skepticalism, she placed a gentle hand on your hip and the other snaked around your back. Together, they pulled you closer to her slowly until you were pressed against Yelena as she moved onto her back. One of her legs even tangled around yours to keep you close.
You didn't move for a moment, almost not trusting yourself, but eventually you gave in to what you were craving and rested your head in the crook of her neck and wrapped your arms firmly around her.
Her familiar scent engulfed you in a way that was much more reassuring than her words. This was amplified when Yelena kept her hand on your hip while the other combed through the top of your hair in the most comforting gesture you had ever seen from her much less received. You felt yourself sink into her more as you fully relaxed.
You couldn't contain the smile on your lips. Nor could you ignore the butterflies throwing a rave in your stomach. It definetly didn't help you get a handle on your ever-growing feelings for your friend, but there was no way you were going to pull away from the embrace.
In the warmth and security of Yelena's comfort it didn't take long for sleep to overtake you. You knew she was safe, as you kept brushing your fingers lightly across the part of her shirt concealing the dressing, and you knew she was there with you. It put your mind at rest better than anything else ever had.
But just as you slipped into your deep sleep you could have sworn you felt Yelena's soft lips on your forehead.
Maybe there was a chance you could fall asleep in her arms more often and maybe it could be when she was unharmed. You were unsure about a lot of things in life, but that was something you felt confident on.
And rightly so.

Trigger Warnings: car crash, character death (no happy ending angst)
1.2 k words
Yelena looked down at her watch once more. Sitting up in the bed you and her shared, she sighed worriedly. Reaching over to call you once more, she waited, your voicemail coming into her ear again. “Hello, this is (Y/n). Please leave a message at the beep.” Running a hand down her face, she left a message of concern, wondering where you were. Putting her phone down, she looked over at Fanny who took your spot on the bed. Letting her fingers gently thread through her dog’s fur, she felt a small sense of comfort fill her. Still, she was mostly filled with worry. You had always answered your phone and you were always home before seven. It was now midnight.
Getting up with the intent of searching for you, her phone rang, your name lighting up the screen. Quickly, she grabbed the phone, almost dropping it in the process. Answering, she felt her heart beat madly in her chest. “(Y/n), printsessa, are you okay?” She questioned, her words heavy with her accent due to her concern. She felt sick when it wasn’t you who replied. Instead, it was a doctor who said you were at the hospital in critical condition. Her hand trembled as she clutched the phone in her hand. “Okay, I’ll be there soon.” Yelena stood up, her legs shaking in the process.
Reaching over, she grabbed some sweatpants and a shirt. Getting dressed, she placed a coat over her shoulder. She still shaking as she swallowed thickly. Taking her car keys, she walked to her car, calling Natasha in the process. Natasha’s sleepy voice filled the car’s audio as Yelena drove. “It’s (Y/n), she’s been in an accident. I don’t know what to do.” She admitted, unsure of how to properly react. She knew what she wanted to do. She wanted to cry and scream and make you better with just a touch. However, she knew that being strong for you is just as important as crying. “She’s hurt and I wasn’t there to protect her.” Yelena’s voice cracked, causing Natasha to wince at the pained voice on the other side of the phone.
“Yelena, it wasn’t your fault. Like you said, she was in an accident. You can’t control that. Whether you were with her or not, you can’t control what happens.” Natasha assured her sister. She hoped her words reached her abnormally quiet sister. She waited minutes for a response, but heard nothing but silence and the car’s interior AC. Natasha worried now, not just for you, but for her sister. The girl who was always so hard on herself. She knew Yelena and knew she had to be incredibly worried for you. After all, she once told Natasha you were the one. “Yelena, are you still there? Can you respond to me? What hospital is she in? I’ll go there, too.”
Yelena shook her head, though she knew Natasha couldn’t see her. A tear escaped her eye as she neared the hospital. Parking the car, she peeled her clenched fingers from the steering wheel. “No, no. I’m fine. I’m just… She has a fear, you know? Of driving, and getting into car accidents. She was must have been so scared.” Her head fell back on the headrest before unbuckling her seatbelt. Clearing her throat, she looked at Natasha’s name on her phone. “I need to go, okay? I’m here. I’ll text you updates.” She stated before ending the call. She took a minute to gather herself before getting out of her car as she walked to the hospital doors. With trembling hands, she pushed the door open, looking around as her eyes scanned the area. Spotting the front desk, she went looked at the lady in the chair. “I’m here to see (Y/n). (Y/n) (L/n). I’m her emergency contact and girlfriend.” She identified herself. The lady nodded before paging a doctor to lead Yelena to your room.
The doctor came to greet Yelena shortly. Yelena analyzed his features briefly so she could remember who your doctor was if she had any questions. "Hello, I'm Doctor Jacobs.” He greeted with a friendly smile. Yelena didn’t understand how he smile with the love of her life being in a hospital room without her. Though, to be fair, he didn’t know you like she did. “I must warn you. She is on a ventilator, not able to breathe on her own right now. She has a few broken ribs and a broken leg. She is bruised and has stitches. She doesn’t look too good right now. She is under our surveillance though, and I am confident that she will recover.” He told Yelena as he stopped in front of the door. Room number 107.
Heeding the doctor’s warnings, she prepared herself for when she saw you. Walking in, she examined the bruises on your face and scratches marking along your cheeks. No doubt from impact and glass. She gently cupped your cheek. “Solnishko, my little sun, you gotta wake up for me, okay?” She whispered to you, placing her face besides yours. Yelena wanted nothing more than to rub her nose against yours, but was too scared of knocking into the hospital equipment and messing something up. Instead, she pressed soft kissed along your cheek bone as tears escaped her eyes. Her lips brushed against your reassuringly warm skin, telling her your were still alive with every beep of a machine in the background.
Her heart beat alongside the rhythm the machine produced. She was always so in sync with you. Taking one of your hands, she examined it. It should’ve had a ring upon it. If she wasn’t so cowardly, it would’ve. She has been meaning to propose to you for a long amount of time. Everytime she did though, she would get too nervous, and chicken out. She wiped away a tear before a sob made its way past her lips. She cried until she eventually fell asleep beside your still body. However, she was woken up by a machine beeping erratically. Pulling away, she saw your rising heartbeat as doctors rushed in. Backing up to give them room, it took herself a second to process what was happening.
A long beep was heard as her hazel eyes flickered to the screen in shock. A flat line. You were dead. The doctors used a defibrillator, yelling clear several times. However, it was hopeless. You were gone, leaving Yelena to slowly fall into a chair. Her head fell into her hands as she sobbed. Standing up as the doctors called it, the time echoed in her mind. “14:03.” That was the day the music died. February 3, 1959. Now, her music died as well. Falling by your bedside, her forehead pressed against yours. “She can’t be dead. She’s still warm.” She told the doctor who looked at her with sorrow in his eyes. “She can’t be dead!” Yelena cried out, holding your cheeks. Her sobs filled the air as two arms wrapped around her.
“I’m here.” Natasha’s voice was in her ear as she turned to her sister, collapsing in the red head’s arms. Natasha held onto Yelena as she cried upon her chest. “I’m here…”

Patchwork | Yelena Belova x Reader
Tumblr media
Pairing: Yelena Belova x Reader
Summary: When Yelena is injured she finds herself at Natasha's old apartment, which you currently occupy. Will you tell the stranger to leave or will you help her?
Word count: 1340
Warnings: mentions of injury, needles, stitches and painkillers (I think that's it)
You were about to go to bed when you heard a knock on your front door. It's late so you're a bit weary, but you open it anyways. In front of you stands a blonde woman, with some red stained fabric wrapped tightly around her right arm. She looked exhausted. "Uhm hello, can I help you?" You ask looking up at her.
"I'm sorry, this was a bad idea. I got hurt and I didn't know where else to go" the woman says with an apologetic look on her face "I'll go." Before she's able to turn around you say, "Let me at least take a look at your arm first." You open the door more to let her in, you walk over to the couch “take a seat, I’ll be right back.”
You walk over to the bathroom where you have your emergency kit, while thinking why you just let a stranger into your home. But you knew the answer, not only was she hurt, but she’s also the most beautiful women you have ever seen.
With the kit in hand, you walk back over placing it on the table. Getting a glass from the kitchen, you fill it with water and hand it the woman along with some painkillers “here take these.” The woman hesitantly takes the painkillers from you but looks at you with a questioning look. You hand her the box you took them from “just painkillers. You don’t have to take them, but your arm definitely needs stitches, and I don’t have any anesthesia.”
“Thank you. I’m not great with trusting people, take my arm as an example. The other guy was supposed to be on my team.” She says while taking the painkillers “I’m Yelena.”
“y/n” you say as you’re taking the fabric off of her arm to assess the wound. “Yeah you definitely need stitches. I work at the hospital I can give you a ride and patch you up there?”
Yelena quickly replies “No, no hospitals. Can you do them here? It doesn’t have to be perfect, just stop it from bleeding and making sure it won’t get infected.”
You give in and start prepping and disinfecting everything you need. “You said you didn’t know where else to go, what made you come here?” you ask as you start disinfecting her wound and getting the needle and thread ready. Yelena barely flinches as you start stitcher her arm up.
“I’m not from this state, but my sister is. She used to live here, in this apartment.” You were too focused on stitching to notice the sad look on Yelena’s face. “Oh, what a coincidence” you say “why did she move? Nothing wrong with the apartment I hope” you joke.
Yelena is quite for a while before she answers, “she passed away last year.” You look up from her arm “oh, I’m sorry.” Yelena shakes her head “thank you.”
When you finish the stitching you get up to clean everything up. When you get back Yelena has fallen asleep on the couch.
You get a blanket and lay in over the woman. Filling up the glass of water and placing it on the table next to the packet of painkillers. Somehow her telling you about her sister, made you trust her. So, you walked to your own room and went to bed.
The next morning Yelena was gone. An empty glass on the table, next to it the blanket folded up neatly. On top of the blanket, you find a not.
Thank you for everything
- Y
---
It has been about a month since Yelena showed up at your door late at night. Even though that was the one and only time you’ve seen her, she still occupied you mind more often than you would like to admit.
So, when you heard a knock on the door and she stood behind it, you couldn’t help but smile.
“What are you smiling at y/n, I’m clearly injured” Yelena joked. “Right, sorry come in.”
Yelena moves forwards, limping all the way to the couch. After cleaning up the wound on her leg you move to the small cut on her cheek. Cleaning it with disinfectant first. It just needed a butterfly stitch, so you were done quickly.
You handed her some painkillers, which she took gratefully this time. “So, what happened, was the other guy supposed to be on your team again?” you questioned. “No not this time” she started “it’s complicated, I don’t want to drag you into this. But it’s work related.” You chuckle “one hell of a job, if you keep ending up like this.” Yelena looks at you amused “There’s definitely a big difference between both our jobs.”
“Have you had anything to eat?” you ask, feeling your stomach growl. Yelena shakes her head. “I can make us some, how do you feel about nachos?” Yelena looks up at you “I love nachos.”
“If you want you can take a shower while I make dinner and you can borrow some clothes.”
Yelena gratefully took your offer.
You spend dinner talking about your job and Yelena’s memories with her sister. Even some about the both of them in your current appartement. You let her sleep on the couch again, wanting her to get some rest before leaving.
The next morning you walked into an empty living room and couldn’t help but feel a bit hurt. Of course, you shouldn’t have expected her to stay, but you had hoped she would. Especially since the two of you were opening up to each other the night before.
You just sat down on the couch when you hear keys jingle and your front door open. You quickly stood up, no one had the key to your apartment.
Through the door came Yelena holding a bag and a tray with two coffees. “Good morning, I hope you don’t mind I borrowed your keys. I wanted to get you some breakfast to thank you for all that you’ve done for me.” The blonde says holding the bag up. “Good morning” you smile “I’m glad you didn’t leave yet.” You admit. Yelena smiles back and walks over to the kitchen to get some plates for the breakfast.
“Maybe next time I come over it doesn’t have to be because I’m injured?” Yelena asked hopeful. You nod “I’d like that. Got anything in mind?”
Yelena looked up at you “oh ehm maybe we could go get dinner or something else, what ever you’d like” she said suddenly very shy. “Dinner sounds good. Can we plan on when or are you just going to randomly knock on my door again?” you chuckle. “How about tomorrow at 6 pm?” Yelena offers, you smile at her “it’s a date.” Your eyes widen “uhm I mean yes that’s good, it doesn’t have to be a date.” Yelena smiles at you “it’s a date.”
Sure, enough the next time Yelena was at your door she wasn’t injured, she was dressed up and ready for your date. Wearing black jeans, a white shirt and a grey blazer. She looks you up and down “wow you look beautiful.” You blush at her compliment before saying “thank you, you look amazing.”
You have a great time at dinner, after she walks you back to your apartment. On the walk back you easily fall back into a conversation. Your hands brush together and Yelena makes the move to hold your hand and intertwine your fingers.
When you arrive at your front door you turn to face Yelena “I had a great time tonight” you say squeezing her hand. “I did too” she replies and kisses your cheek. “Do you maybe want to come in and watch a movie?”
Once inside the two of you settle on the couch and start the movie. The longer the movie plays the closer the two of you get on the couch, until you’re cuddled up together. Eventually you both fall asleep, your head on her shoulder with her arm around your waist.
