Is there something to Abby being Buck's first serious adult relationship and Tommy being his first intentional relationship with a guy? Both of them are older to him, both of them thought he was adorable in a way, and both of them were already friends with someone he knew?

It’s definitely interesting to look at ways those two relationships are similar and ways that they differ.

Abby & Tommy are both older than Buck, but I think Tommy is more in the same place as Buck, which I think is the most important thing.

Obviously it’s still super early in the Bucktommy relationship but it seems like they want the same thing whereas s1 Buck was trying out his first serious relationship while Abby was after a fun relationship to counterbalance the heaviness of the other stuff going on in her life - which, there’s nothing wrong with that, but I felt like she should have been clearer about it. The issue with Buck/Abby was a failure of communication imo, which is also how it ended, with the eventual ghosting.

So far, it seems like Tommy & Buck both want to put effort in to communicate with each other, which I think highlights how much Buck has matured- he’s making a point of choosing this relationship rather than falling into it and hoping the other person is on the same page.

So yeah I think there’s a bit of similarity in “older character teaches Buck something about himself” and a bit of difference in how it’s being approached and the level of investment from both sides.
