Marvel Studios: Voices Rising - The Music Of Wakanda Forever [Series]
Tumblr media
Episode #3: “London: Bring It Home” [available on Disney +] [w/ time stamps to follow along]
                  - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
▻  London was the last stop, where they [Ludwig, producers, artists, etc] gathered sounds and music from Nigeria and Mexico to bring it all together back in London.
Tumblr media
▻  “It was 10 full days of scoring. Not only was Ludwig recording with the orchestra during the day, but he was also doing sessions with artists at the studios at night time.” - Monica Sonand [Score Supervisor] [3:58] We see that Ludwig would be up till @4:00AM onward in the studio, recording with artists.
▻  Ryan was a huge fan of Burna Boy’s [Nigerian singer] music and introduced him to Ludwig. From there, Ludwig recorded music of Burna singing with guitar on the track but he didn’t know where it would fit in the overall film. “I didn’t know how to elaborate on it. I got the idea to send the vocals and the guitars to P. Priime [Music Producer]” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [4:42] P. Priime gave the track life from there, which Burna Boy then listened to and put his spin on it. The final track “Alone” is used in the scene where Princess Shuri [Letitia Wright] is shown recreating the heart shaped herb in the lab before she becomes the Black Panther [5:34]
▻  Stormzy was approached to sing on the track “Interlude” for the soundtrack. This song has a similar melody to Burna Boy’s “Alone”. “Stormzy wrote this beautiful, very intimate verse. That was also a beautiful moment.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [6:44] We hear this track played during the lab scene with Princess Shuri and Riri Williams [Dominique Thorne] brainstorming before battle [6:51]
Tumblr media
▻ “I discussed a lot with Ryan about how we’re going to use the Black Panther theme, how we’re going to use the talking drums, which was T’Challa’s [Chadwick Boseman] main instrument. It became a significant part of the storyline of the first movie. It’s also one of the first instruments you actually hear in Wakanda Forever. It’s what starts the funeral ceremony. After that, you don’t hear it anymore until the very end of the movie. With T’Challa not being there, it was impossible to fit that instrument in. So I needed a theme for Shuri.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [7:22]
▻  Tunde Jegede [instrumentalist] is shown playing the Kora [8:35]. This instrument is played during the funeral scene in the beginning of the film where Princess Shuri is seen weeping with Queen Romanda [Angela Bassett] by her side. “It was Ryan’s idea to change the instrument of that theme into a voice. You hear this lullaby song, which is representing the memory of T’Challa.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [8:45] The lullaby is played during the scene with Shuri and her mother by the lake, speaking of her brother’s prescence. [9:03] “The presence that you felt was just a construct of your mind” - Princess Shuri. “The music switches from that warm, supportive feeling to this cold, dark emotion, and Jorja Smith’s vocals take over.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [9:17] The track “He wasn’t there” was then implemented into the score.
Tumblr media
▻  “For Shuri, everything doesn’t make sense. What she knew has been blown up. And she’s like how do I get through this?” - Letitia Wright [Princess Shuri] [9:25] “The vocal [sung by Jorja Smith] is growing and growing as the storyline moves on. It transforms into a crazy, big, distorted synthesizer. The key element is how it blends together with the Black Panther fanfare from the first movie.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [9:44] We hear this distorted version of the vocals in the climatic scene where Shuri falls from the sky, making her big introduction as the Black Panther to Wakanda. This track is known as “Wakanda Forever” in the score. The drums from T’challa’s theme music plays along with Shuri’s theme song during her arm wrestling scene with M’baku. “The Black Panther lives!” - M’baku [Winston Duke]
▻  The transition and tonal change of Shuri’s theme music is then heard during the desert fight scene between Black Panther and Namor [Tenoch Huerta]. “And then you go from something like that to 120 people singing, and playing their instruments as soft as they can.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [10:30] This track is known as “Vengeance has consumed us” in the score. It is played while Namor is on his back and Shuri demands him to yield. “ Yield and Wakanda will protect your oceans. We will protect your secrets. Vengeance has consumed us. We cannot let it consume our people.” - Black Panther [Letitia Wright]. “That is something that synthesizers are never going to be able to re-create in the sound of all these people in one room.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [10:47]
▻ “I’m really proud of all the character arcs in this film coming to a place of peace and healing, or on their way to it. I feel like we’ve done that really well!” - Letitia Wright [Princess Shuri] [11:02]
▻  Ludwig worked on the track “Con La Brisa” for a while but wanted to find a way to make it better. He tried to add an orchestra to it. “And then when I brought it back to LA and I saw the whole movie and heard it like that, it took me out of it. That was an interesting example of like okay let’s go back to the magic that was there from the beginning. I had to think okay well, the most magic thing about this song is just the vocal and if you can leave that driving the song, and strip away everything else from the song that’s how you’re going to get the most power from it.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [12:12] Ludwig felt that Foudeqush’s vocals on the track were enough. Less is more.
▻  The funeral scene of Shuri and Queen Ramonda walking through the crowd with T’challa’s mask was one of the first scenes Ryan shot. “Ryan was very adamant that this is an opportunity for us to use the voice from the first movie.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [13:26] There was a recorded session back in 2017 for the first Black Panther of Baaba Maal singing. “I had a friend of mine that had produced one of Baaba Maal’s albums and I just called him and asked him if he could put us in touch. I called Baaba Maal and I told him me and my wife are going to go to Senegal. Do you have time to meet up?” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [13:52]
Tumblr media
▻  “I invited him [Ludwig] to join me and my band to make a tour. I knew that to get the spirit and the soul; it’s something that you can’t explain to someone. It would be good for him to see how people play it.” - Baaba Maal [Musician] [14:17] Ludwig went on tour with Baaba for two weeks. Baaba says that that was a great experience for him to learn that Ludwig is a very patient person, especially if you are going to learn about the culture. You have to be patient in order to do so. [15:03] We hear Baaba’s voice in the opening of the first Black Panther where T’Challa [Chadwick Boseman], Nakia [Lupita Nyong’o] and Okoye [Danai Gurira] are seen flying into Wakanda. “So when it became time for Wakanda Forever to be able to bring Baaba Maal back, we thought it would be very powerful.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [15:29]
▻  “Baaba Maal, he’s the most dynamic vocalist I’ve ever recorded. You gotta be really careful with him because he will blow out a mic! Pretty loud, but controlled loud.” - Chris Fogel [Recording Engineer/Mixer] [15:49] We hear Baaba’s beautiful and emotional vocals in the studio, overlayed with recorded drums and instruments that Ludwig and Chris strung together. His vocals were used in the send off scene of T’challa’s casket. Baaba also makes an appearance in the movie during the ceremony of the Wakandans sending T’Challa off. They played the final scene for him in studio with his vocals and instruments overlayed and Baaba loved it. [17:54]
▻  “The most important thing as a human being is to be proud of who you are and art is the truest form to show your identity.” - Ludwig Göransson [Composer] [18:26]
▻  “That’s really dope of Ludwig to find a way to have people of the Latinx community, artists of the African diaspora in one album and for it to all fit and flow. I think that’s really brave! It’s a reflection of the world that we actually live in. That’s beautiful to see.” - Letitia Wright [Princess Shuri] [18:44]

Marvel is lowkey homophobic and embarrassingly old fashioned
Before I start:
Anyone who objects to this is not thinking critically or realistically. And anyone who tells me otherwise on this post will just be proving the main point of this post. And that I'm right.
This shouldn't only be offensive to the LGBTQ+ community. But the straight fans as well.
This isn't the 90s or early 2000s movies where the guy gets the girl and vice versa. There's a reason why Disney stopped that with princesses since Brave.
It just makes me angry that Marvel is sexist and makes us suffer from heterosexual stereotypes.
And yes I am aware of Captain Marvel getting her own movie, ms marvel and she hulk as well. I won't include black panther 2 because if Chadwick Bosman was still alive then Shuri wouldn't get her own movie. But it had to take until 2019 to start giving female characters some recognition.
Maybe its because making female lead movies are too hard or they want us to think all the best characters must be males because:
Marvel was a guy thing so it would be weird for girls to be interested as well.
And does the main man even need to follow the "get the girl" cliche?
It makes the movie super predictable. Spider Verse movies also count as the predictable cliche. Yes I am aware Miles and Gwen aren't really together but even I'm not stupid enough to see how sexist it is.
Would it be so wrong to give Gwen her own franchise? I'm tired of the spider themed hero being a guy. Girls can be funny too.
Captain Marvel is fine because she didn't need a love interest. Mainly because she's a lesbian.
Avengers endgame was probably the last good cinematic movie before the cringey slithered in.
It has to be:
Guy, girl
Roughly same age (only in live action but its actually a concerning age gap in comics)
They must like each other.
They must get together.
Can't the girl not be a love interest? Especially if she is also a superhero?
I would've liked into the spiderverse and across the spiderverse if Miles wasn't another "hero gets the girl" type.

SHURI’S VERSE — THE BLACK PANTHER LIVES
this verse slightly inspired by Shuri’s comic series (2018)
IMPORTANT: contrarily to the main verse (where she is 25), Shuri is 27 in this
Tumblr media
It had taken moths for HER to design and build the spaceship that was supposed to bring her brother and some agents of SWORD through a wormhole, an emergency going on in outer-space for which Thor and the Guardians of the Galaxy had required their assistance. Calculation were just right, or so she believed, as after two weeks communications had suddenly gone into RADIO SILENCE, the disappearance of the king shocking the whole world and SHIELD.
But Wakanda had to remain strong. The symbol of the Black Panther couldn’t remain vacant and, therefore, someone else needed to take upon themselves the role that had once belonged to T'Challa.
The best warriors from every tribe of Wakanda fought at Warrior Falls, but none of the victors was then accepted by the Ancestors when consuming the Heart-Shaped Herb and getting to the ancestral plane. That, at least, until the spirit of king T'Chaka himself appeared to Shuri in a dream, telling her they had chosen HER.
Shook by the news, queen Ramonda and the Elders spent days reunited in council until they agreed to have Shuri attempt the ritual. She passed, rising from the earth with all the powers of the Black Panther running through her veins.
Unsure whether she was fit or WORTHY of such a role, Shuri still designed her suit, her claws, abandoning her gauntlets for an high-tech armor that very much resembled her brother’s. The Dora Milaje took care of training her, cuts and bruises and divine powers eventually turning the princess into a fighter with no equals in Wakanda.

@scldat sent:  “ hey, now. you’ve been helping me ever since we met. it’s about time i started repaying the favor. ”
Tumblr media
Shuri wasn’t the best at thanking people, especially because there were very few instances in which she liked asking for or even accepting some help. Honestly, she didn’t plan on telling anyone that she was struggling with manging loss and training, but Bucky had still noticed it the moment he’d showed up in Wakanda. Like he was perfectly capable of seeing right through her, a smile that wasn’t as bright as she tried to deal with T’Challa disappearance and the responsibility of now being the one in charge. The Black Panther powers that ran through her veins were like liquid fire she had no idea how to master, her future one she felt like she’d stolen from her brother. She’d grown up as a princess but had never really expected to be the one sitting on the throne, but being the protector of Wakanda was a concept so foreign from what she was used to.
The Dora Milaje had been great training coaches, but the White Wolf had surprisingly turned out to be the person whose support she needed the most — not that Shuri had admitted it. Maybe it was because they’d shared so much or maybe it was the way she knew he understood what it was like to lose someone… But she didn’t feel as bad in standing vulnerable in front of him. Even when she could count her true friends on the fingers of one hand, Bucky was definitely one those. « A cup of Starbucks coffee would’ve been more than enough for a payment. » She joked, a pack of ice on her sore shoulder. « At least I won’t have trouble sleeping tonight, I’m exhausted. » There was not a single muscle of her body that wasn’t tired at the moment, but Shuri felt better than the day before. She knew she was not the most patient girl to train, but he’d stayed. « Thank you, for not giving up on me when I failed that move for the twelfth time. »

James Buchanan Barnes; Muse Info
Tumblr media
Full Name; James Buchanan Barnes Nickname; Bucky, Buck (Only by Steve Rogers) Face Claim; Sebastian Stan Gender; Male Pronouns; He/Him Marital Status; Single Sexuality; Bisexual Age; 105 Date Of Birth; March 10th, 1917 Occupation; Winter Soldier Residence; Unknown Species; Human/Super Soldier Family; None Verses; None Biography/Timelines; Sergeant James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes is a World War II veteran, a former officer of the 107th Infantry Regiment and the best friend of Steve Rogers since childhood. Barnes had enlisted into the army and was assigned to the 107th in 1943. His regiment was captured by HYDRA, where Barnes was given a variant of the Super Soldier Serum by Arnim Zola. Barnes, along with whoever still remained from his regiment, was later rescued by Rogers, who had become Captain America during Barnes' absence. Upon joining forces with the continuing war, Barnes and Rogers formed their Howling Commandos, to battle Red Skull's forces. However, during the attempt to finally capture Zola out in the Austrian Alps, Barnes was caught up in the ambush and plummeted hundreds of feet from a train. As nobody was ever recovered, Barnes had then been presumed deceased, becoming honored as a hero. Unbeknownst to his team, Barnes' enhanced abilities allowed him to survive the fall, albeit with the loss of his left arm. Once he was found by the Soviet Union, as well as HYDRA, Barnes had subsequently been brainwashed and armed with a new cybernetic limb in order to then become their operative, known as the Winter Soldier. Over those next fifty years, he would eliminate anyone who posed any kind of threat to HYDRA, including Howard Stark and his wife, Maria. Between all these assassination missions, the Winter Soldier would be put back into a cryogenic stasis to ensure his longevity. In 2014, the Winter Soldier had been ordered by Alexander Pierce to kill Nick Fury, in order to ensure that all Pierce's schemes with Project Insight could go ahead. However, the Winter Soldier was challenged by Steve Rogers, which had eventually triggered him to begin remembering his prior life. In the wake of their Battle at the Triskelion, Barnes, now free from his brainwashing, deserted HYDRA in order to remember his past and end his long, violent history. Two years later, Barnes was then framed for the Bombing of the Vienna International Centre, which claimed the life of T'Chaka, among many other innocent lives. As Black Panther then sought his revenge for his father's death, Barnes had been repeatedly saved by Captain America, which sparked the Avengers Civil War as a team of Avengers led by Iron Man was sent to capture him. However, they learned that Helmut Zemo framed Barnes and reactivated his brainwashing so that Zemo could reveal that Barnes had murdered Stark's parents years ago. Having just survived Stark's revenge, Barnes was given amnesty in Wakanda by T'Challa and was placed in cryostasis until all HYDRA's control could be removed. With the help of Shuri, Barnes was finally cured of his brainwashing. However, as Thanos attempted to kill Vision for the Mind Stone, Barnes returned to stop the Mad Titan's plans, receiving his new vibranium arm. Barnes joined T'Challa and the Avengers to help fight off the threat, only for Thanos to defeat them and assemble all of the Infinity Stones. Barnes was subsequently disintegrated as Thanos eliminated half of all life in the universe. In 2023, Barnes was resurrected by Hulk and participated in the final battle against Thanos. In the aftermath of the battle, he attended the funeral of Tony Stark with all the other heroes. Later on, Barnes bid Rogers farewell, knowing of his intention to travel back to the 1940s in order to live with Peggy Carter. Barnes was present to witness Rogers, as a much older man, return home in order to choose Sam Wilson to pass the shield onto. With his name pardoned, Barnes sought atonement for all his actions as the Winter Soldier. His attempts were interrupted when John Walker was made the next Captain America, and the Flag Smashers emerged to act against the GRC's efforts to handle the aftermath of the Blip. He and Sam Wilson would go on a mission to stop the Flag Smashers, temporarily working with Helmut Zemo and Sharon Carter. However, the mission was complicated by Walker's attacks, until Walker murdered a Flag Smasher over Battlestar’s death. Barnes and Wilson were forced to defeat Walker to stop him from continuing to be Captain America. Barnes would then join Wilson and Walker in the final battle with the Flag Smashers, helping in their defeat and making amends with his past.

a few reminders about my muses:
anna cannot have kids, physically. any kids would have to be heavily plotted and would not be her biological kids.
bucky is also infertile. this is a hard limit for me. he cannot make babies.
steve can have babies, but he does not want them. he doesn’t think his life is right for kids. he used to kind of want a family, but that was because he thought it was what he was supposed to want.
shuri has no desire to be a mother. she wants to be a scientist. and a good black panther. but not a mother.
okoye does want chidlren, but lbr, she’s mad as fuck at w’kabi still.
sam wants a family, very much so. he loves his nephews. his only real reservations are that he’s now captain america and that could be hard on kids.
helmut had a family. he doesn’t want another one. ever.
red skull has a daughter. but please do not ask me to have him make other children. the idea makes my fucking skin crawl. just. no.
tony has reservations about being a dad. he wants kids, wants to be a good dad, but it makes him nervous, too. and yes, morgan will be a thing for anyone who writes morgan.
fitz wants ALL THE CHILDREN. even if his child annoyed the fuck out of him in the future.
homelander does have a son. homelander will not be having any other children. full stop. he’s a terrible person. just no way, no how.
waller does like kids, believe it or not. but men get on her nerves, lol.
alex has a son. he wouldn’t mind more kids, but uh...he’s not a good dad.
bobbie has no desire for curtain climbers. she avoids them. a lot.
prax loves his daughter, but he doesn’t think he’d ever want another. mei is enough for him.
mei...is an actual child. pls don’t.
usnavi wants a ridiculously large family. though he’d be hard pressed to see that happening with anyone other than vanessa.
glenn always wanted kids. he loves kids. in the zombie apocalypse, though, it does worry him.
the countess (elizabeth march) DOES NOT EVER NEED CHILDREN OMFG.
killian wouldn’t mind being a dad. i have a few verses where he’s a dad. but uh...he’s also fucking captain hook.
newt...isn’t much for kids. he doesn’t mind the idea of teaching them, but babies of his own? he has more than enough fur babies, thanks.
thomas is also a child. like, he may be 18-25 depending, but the dude lives in a weird world where children were put into a maze. that he helped create. he doesn’t want any friggin’ kids.
father mike...is....a catholic priest....
poseidon is...fucking poseidon? like. he has kids everywhere. ffs.
triton? loves his wife. he doesn’t want babies with anyone else. sorry.
ronnie/ghost is a spy and absolutely out of his mind. like...jfc. please don’t try to have kids with ronnie.
leto is not the kind of man to have a ton of children. many of the dukes were, but he’s very particular. and his love for jessica would preclude a lot of babies from happening with anyone else.
duncan...eeehhhh. he’s very loyal to the atreides family and he’s a swordmaster. kids are pretty low on the agenda. like...REALLY low.

*mic check* well guys, let me spam you Shuri’s verse “The Black Panther Lives” (I’m gonna drop it under the cut too so ppl that aren’t on pc (not sure whether tumblr pages are mobile-friendly) can read it 😎

Our guide to women with kick ass powers in comics, movies and TV
Margeaux Sippell and Ross A. Lincoln | October 7, 2020 @ 6:34 AM
Saving the world in spandex isn't just for guys. We've compiled a list of memorable and bad-ass superheroines. From Wonder Woman to Captain Marvel, here are some super-women you don't want to mess with.
DC
WONDER WOMAN  Whether you met her first in DC Comics, played by Linda Carter in the 1970s, or played by Gal Gadot in Patty Jenkin's 2017 hit film, if you know only one name on this list, chances are it's this one. Created in 1941 by William Moulton Marston and H.G. Peter, Wonder Woman is the immortal, super-strong, magical genius daughter of Zeus and Hippolyta. After moving to the world of mortals as an emissary of the Amazons, she fights for justice and equality solo and as a founding member of the Justice League against a rogues list that includes literal gods and colorful criminals like Cheetah. Good thing she has a magical lasso and an invisible jet to help her out.
The CW
SUPERGIRL  Superman's cousin Kara Zor-El -- known on earth as Kara Danvers in the very excellent The CW series starring Melissa Benoist -- is another survivor of Krypton's destruction who fights for truth and some very needed social justice while protecting earth from threats like time traveling supervillains and Martian authoritarians. She's also a very good journalist. Her superpowers aren't just flight, invincibility, laser vision and so on, she's also just an excellent person.
Marvel
CAPTAIN MARVEL  Originally known as Ms. Marvel (a title now used by another entry on this list), Carol Danvers assumed the Mantle of Captain Marvel in honor of her mentor, the alien hero Mar-Vell. Created by Roy Thomas and Gene Colan in 1968, she's an air force pilot and feminist activist who fights supervillains as Captain Marvel, and sexism in her civilian guise. Played by Brie Larson in the 2018 film, Captain Marvel has superhuman strength, stamina, durability, and agility, and can fly faster than the speed of sound. She has the “Seventh Sense,” which allows her to predict future danger. She can also heal from injuries quickly, has immunity to toxins and poisons, and can shoot light beams from her hands.
The CW
BATWOMAN Ruby Rose played the openly lesbian superhero Kate Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman, in the first season of The CW series "Batwoman. In the series, Kane returned to Gotham to take over for the Caped Crusader and save the city. For the second season, Javicia Leslie was cast as Ryan Wilder, a brand-new character (not in the comics) who takes on the Batwoman persona.
SHURI  Sister to King T'Challa, the current Black Panther, Shuri is Wakanda's top scientist -- which makes her pretty much the world's top scientist. As played by Letitia Wright in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Shuri not only designs Black Panther's ultra-advanced tech and numerous other world-changing inventions, she's also a powerful warrior in her own right. Her comics counterpart, created in 2003 by Reginald Hudlin and John Romita Jr., is even more badass: she's been given Black Panther powers, she can transform into animals, and she's even managed to come back from the dead.
Marvel
BLACK WIDOW  Black Widow emerged as one of the crucial heroes of the Marvel Cinematic Universe thanks to her portrayal by Scarlett Johansson. Created by Stan Lee, Don Rico and Don Heck, she's a former Russian spy who defected to S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers. In the comics, her powers include resistance to disease and aging, ability to suppress and replace memories, agility. In the films, she's just a run of the mill extreme badass, master athlete and martial artist with a talent for psychological manipulation -- and a great leader too. Her backstory will be fleshed out a lot more in her self-titled solo film, whose release is set for May 2021.
Netflix
JESSICA JONES  Created by Brian Michael Bendis for Marvel's "Alias" comics in 2001, Jessica Jones has been a hard drinking expert private detective, an Avenger and even a high school classmate of Spider-Man. She's strong, she can fly, and she isn't here for your B.S., especially on her Netflix show, where she was played by Krysten Ritter.
Warner Bros.
HARLEY QUINN  While formerly an absolute villain, Harley has since crossed over into a more heroic, or at least, non-villainous role. Introduced in the 1990s show "Batman the Animated Series," originally she was Dr. Harleen Quinzel, an Arkham Asylum psychiatrist manipulated by the Joker into helping him escape and joining his gang. After years of cruelty, she finally left him and since then DC comics stories have emphasized that she's an abuse survivor trying to figure out her own way in a world. Incredibly smart and immune to almost all toxins, she frequently teams up with fellow supervillains Catwoman and Poison Ivy. She's played by Margot Robbie in "Suicide Squad" and 2020's "Birds of Prey," and by Kaley Cuoco in DC's animated "Harley Quinn" series.
Marvel Studios
THE WASP  More than one Marvel hero has been known as The Wasp, but the best known is Hope Van Dyne, played by Evangeline Lilly in "Ant-Man" and "Ant-Man and the Wasp." In both the movies and comics, she's the daughter of the original Ant-Man and The Wasp, Hank Pym and Janet Van Dyne -- though unlike her comics counterpart, in the movies she doesn't have innate powers. No worries though. She's a gifted strategist and formidable martial artist who, thanks to some pretty sophisticated technology, is also able to shrink to the size of an insect (with proportional strength) and fly. She can also punch really, really hard.
Netflix
SHE-RA  She-Ra is the superpowered alter ego of Princess Adora, long lost twin sister of Prince Adam/He-Man from "He-Man and the Masters of the Universe." Raised on the far away planet of Etheria, Adora uses the Sword of Protection to transform into She-Ra, leader of the resistance against the tyrannical Evil Horde. Originating in the 1985 cartoon "She-Ra: Princess of Power," She-Ra was brought back on Netflix's acclaimed ongoing series "She-Ra and the Princess of Power."
The CW
THUNDER  Thunder, a.k.a. Anissa Pierce, is the eldest daughter of the superhero Black Lightning. But she's more than just a family legacy. Thunder can increase her body density at will, making her immovable and almost completely invulnerable. She is also bullet proof and can create shockwaves by stomping on the ground -- really handy when taking down bad guys. She's memorably portrayed by Nafessa Williams in the CW's "Black Lightning" series, where like her comics counterpart she's an out lesbian.
Warner Bros.
CATWOMAN   One of Batman's most enduring love-interests and, like Harley Quinn, somewhat reformed from crime in recent years, Catwoman is an expert cat burglar with acrobatic prowess whose preferred weapon is her brains, and a bullwhip.  Catwoman has long had an uneasy relationship with Batman, though in a recent storyline the two got engaged -- until she called it off. She's most notably been played in live action by Michelle Pfeiffer in "Batman Returns" and by Anne Hathaway in "The Dark Knight Rises."
Marvel Comics/Art by Robbi Rodriguez
GWEN STACEY / SPIDER-GWEN  In the Mainstream Marvel Comics universe, Gwen Stacey was Peter Parker's college girlfriend, who died tragically when she was dropped off the George Washington Bridge by the Green Goblin.  But in the 2014 "Spider-Verse" storyline, it's revealed that in an alternate universe, Gwen was the one bitten by a radioactive spider, becoming that world's Spider-Woman. She got her own comic book series called "Spider-Gwen" in 2015 and played a major role in the Oscar-winning animated film "Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse."
LIGHTNING  Black Lightning's other daughter, Jennifer Pierce, can manipulate electricity and generate it from her own body, as well as fly. So don't mess with her. She's best known for being played by China Anne McClain on The CW's "Black Lightning," a show all of you should be watching.
ABC
THE BIONIC WOMAN  A spinoff of the 1973-78 sci-fi action series "The Six Million Dollar Man," "The Bionic Woman" followed Jaime Sommers (Lindsay Wagner), a tennis player critically injured in a sky diving accident whose life is saved with bionic implants including an ear, an arm and both legs, giving her fantastic abilities. Though the show lasted only three seasons, its enduing popularity led to several TV movie revivals, and it influenced a ton of subsequent female heroes.
OKOYE  Created by Christopher Priest and Mark Texeira in 1998, Okoye was long one of Marvel's lesser-known heroes, until she became a straight up icon thanks to Danai Gurira's performances in "Black Panther," "Avengers: Infinity War" and "Avengers: Endgame."  Okoye is the head of Black Panther's personal bodyguards, the Dora Milaj. And what she lacks in Black Panther's literal superpowers, she more than makes up for with martial arts expertise and a genius at tactical and strategic thinking.  No wonder she not only went toe to toe against the children of Thanos and lived, she also single-handedly saved Wakanda after The Snap wiped out trillions, including Black Panther.
Cartoon Network
BLACK CANARY  Black Canary has been fighting crime since her debut in DC Comics' "The Flash" in 1947, first as the alter ego of Dinah Drake -- who eventually married police detective Larry Lance -- and later by her daughter, Dinah Laurel Lance, who most frequently teams up romantically and crime-fightingly with Green Arrow. Originally written to have no powers, she later acquired a sonic scream called the "canary cry" that can shatter objects and kill enemies.  She was voiced by Morena Baccarin in Cartoon Network's "Justice League Unlimited," and three different versions of the character have been played by Katie Cassidy, Caity Lotz, and Juliana Harkavy in The CW's Arrowverse. Jurnee Smollett-Bell will play her in the upcoming "Birds of Prey" live action film.
DC / Cartoon Network
KATANA  DC Comics' Katana is a Japanese superhero whose power lies in the blade of her sword, called the SoulTaker -- which contains the soul of her dead husband, Maseo. Created by Mike Barr and Jim Aparo, Katana is part of the Justice League, the Birds of Prey, and the Outsiders, Batman's hand-picked team for black-ops missions. She's played by Rila Fukushima in The CW's Arrowverse, was by Karen Fukuhara in Warner Bros.' 2016 film "Suicide Squad."
Marvel / ABC
DAISY JOHNSON / QUAKE  Aptly named because of her ability to generate earthquakes, Quake, a.k.a. Daisy Johnson, is the daughter of the super villain Mister Hyde. A high ranking member of S.H.I.E.L.D. (behind only Black Widow and Nick Fury), she's best known for being played by Chloe Bennet on "Marvel's Agents of S.H.E.I.L.D.," where her powers come from the fact that she's an Inhuman (an element later imported into the comics).
DC / Cartoon Network
BIG BARDA  Created in 1971 by the legendary Jack Kirby, Big Barda is one of DC Comics' New Gods. Raised on planet Apokolips to serve the cruel dictator Darkseid, she changed sides after falling in love with Mister Miracle and eventually escapes with him to Earth, where she's been a big part of teams like the Justice League and Birds of Prey. She's immortal, super strong and nearly invincible, and a highly trained soldier whose weapon of choice is the mega-rod. Audiences will see for themselves in the upcoming "New Gods" movie -- director Ava DuVernay says Barda is her favorite superhero.
Marvel
ELEKTRA  Best known for being played by Jennifer Garner in 2003's "Daredevil" as well as her own standalone 2005 film, this Marvel superheroine is an expert martial artist and assassin who has worked on both sides of the law (until she eventually killed the evil aspects of her personality in a duel.) She was created by Frank Miller in 1981.
CBS
BATGIRL / ORACLE  Created in 1967, Barbara Gordon, adopted daughter of Commissioner Jim Gordon, has been a superhero in multiple forms. As Batgirl she operates alongside Batman and Robin in Gotham. After being paralyzed by the Joker in a 1988 storyline, she because the information broker known as Oracle, who assembled the Birds of Prey and basically served as tech overlord to Gotham City's heroes. In recent years, a timeline reboot (long story) has her back in the suit as Batgirl but still capable of serving as oracle when needed.
Marvel
KAMALA KHAN / MS. MARVEL  A Pakistani American teenager from New Jersey, Kamala Khan is also descended from the Inhumans, and when exposed to terregin mists developed the ability to shape shift and recover from almost all wounds. She operates under the name Ms. Marvel in tribute to the original, Carol Danvers, who has since assumed the name Captain Marvel. Created by Sana Amanat, Stephen Wacker, G. Willow Wilson, Adrian Alphona and Jamie McKelvie, she's the first Muslim character to headline a Marvel comic book, "Ms. Marvel," which has been praised for its writing, and for bringing greater visibility to Muslims in comics. A Disney+ series featuring in the character is due in 2021.
Disney
ELASTIGIRL  Not to be left out is Elastigirl from "The Incredibles." The alter ego of Helen Parr, wife of Mr. Incredible (Bob Parr) and mother of Violet, Dash, and Jack-Jack, she can stretch any part of her body and mold herself into different shapes and sizes. She's voiced by Holly Hunter.

“You should see the other one.” (Shuri)
Tumblr media
Shuri would’ve smiled at Scott’s words had the situation not been so serious to begin with. As much as she appreciated someone capable of using humor even in the worst possible scenarios, the joke most certainly wasn’t going to wash genuine concern from her face. She’d been one minute too late for the battle, arriving only when the action was already over to find her friend Ant-Man on the ground. Scott’s face had definitely seen better days, the purple around his eye didn’t suit him one bit. But at least no civilian seemed injured.
As the Black Panther’s mask disappeared from her visage, the suit almost useless at that point but Shuri still kept it on just in case. She raised one brow and bit her lip in frustration, thinking about all the different ways she could’ve avoided that if only she’d gotten there faster. « Pft, of course you had to keep all the fun to yourself. » Like she was pissed about that as she stretched out her hand to help him up. Expression softening, dark eyes scanned his figure. « Did you break anything? I’ve got some medical equipment on the Royal Talon. »

Tumblr media
Shifting nervously in her seat, she watches though the window as Steve and Natasha talk to the King and Princess of Wakanda in privacy. Steve seems to notice her watching as he looks over at her, giving a small smile, which Natasha seems to notice, because she turns to look at her with a unconvincing mirror of the Captain's, and her blood runs cold. Steve hasn't smiled much, since the battle of team Iron Man verses team Captain America at the airstrip. Natasha does smile much, period. This can't be good. She twirls a lock of burgundy hair around a finger, her nail is painted with chipped black varnish, something she'll miss from now on, unless someone in this almost alternate dimension, has any.
"-hut all ready for her stay." The King says as the door to the room opens, the four of them exit as she shifts in her seat once again, gnawing at her bottom lip as Steve nods to the King, before walking over to her, grabbing the suitcase resting at her feet.
"Good news, you can stay. They even have a semi secluded area where they've prepared your hut." She narrows her eyes at the Captain, his baggy eyes and mussed up hair, like he's ran his fingers though it a thousand and one times, doesn't help convince her much that this is for her safety, and not their own. His emotions are chaotic as they practically slap her in the face. "Maeve?"
"You should shave." She says as he reaches up to rub the beard that isn't quite stubble anymore, but isn't a full on beard yet, the apples of his cheeks are red, and the Princess giggles.
"I am princess Shuri, I will help deliver you to your new home, and help explain our culture to you, as best as I can." She says in a friendly manner as she steps up to Maeve, holding out a hand to the American. "Welcome to Wakanda, Ms. Smithe."
"Hello, Princess Shuri. I am pleased to meet you. Please, i-if you don't mind, please just call me Maeve, or Mae." She smiles, shaking the princess's hand, and Shuri drops her hand, smiling.
"Only if you call me Shuri." She says. "Come along. Brother, are you coming?" She asks, looking at the King. T'Challa nods and smiles, everyone following the Princess. The King is close to the Princess, Mae falls behind to talk to Steve and Natasha.
"We will be at your call, anytime you need us, Mae." Steve says as he puts his free arm around her shoulder. Regret and thankfulness emit from the Super Soldier, her exhaustion at everything lately makes her unable to shield against the emotions, though she's grateful she still can fight back against his thoughts.
"You know we won't be able to be here right away, but we'll be here as soon as you need, Mae. This isn't us abandoning you." Natasha says, draping her arm over Mae's other shoulder.
"I'm used to it." She says, ducking out of their hold, moving to follow the King and Princess closer. Natasha and Steve exchange looks with sadness radiating from the duo, as the burgundy haired mutant reflects the emotion back.
Tumblr media
The hut sits in a grassy meadow, it's a medium size made out of wood, with a pergola off to the side, and stream in the back behind the small forest. Another hut sits not far away, but other than that, there isn't another in sight. The hut has modern equipment in it, a TV, fridge, stock and oven, running shower, and toilet, with a small bedroom tucked into the back, with a queen-size pillow top mattress. The floor of the hut is wood, with a nice rug every few feet, and plush couch in the living room. A modern house with an un-modern appearance. Outside the pergola is white, with ivy and flowers twining up the posts, a bench sits on the inside, and a foldable art easel is tucked in it, to the side.
"This is nice." Steve says after he sets her suitcase on the end of the bed. "It's remote, so you won't have to feel all of those emotions, of a bunch of strangers. You won't hear their thoughts." He smiles at her as she touches the drapes over one of the windows, before looking over at him.
"It'll do." She says simply, causing Natasha to give him an almost patronizing look, and Mae turns to her. "It's not just his fault." She looks at Mae in confusion, like she's not feeling what Mae knows that she knows Mae can feel. "I can feel your irritation." Natasha sighs as she walks over to rest a hand on Mae's shoulder. The air is tense, making her grateful that the King and Shuri decided to stay outside, to let the three of them have their time.
"This isn't like your parents, Maeve! We're not abandoning you, but we need to do this, for everyone's safety. Not just our's, but for your's as well." Natasha says in anger.
"Bullshit!" Mae snaps, jerking away from the two of them. "You can lie to me, and to yourselves, but your emotions betray you! You think that I'm too dangerous after what happened at the airstrip!" She clenches her fists, before wrapping her arms around herself. "Ju-Just leave! You did what you set out to do, so just go!" She turns away from them, fighting back tears as Natasha looks at Steve, who nods as he leaves the hut.
"I'm not leaving, Maeve." Natasha wraps her arms around the young woman, who is curling into a ball. "Not while you're like this." Natasha pets her hair, holding Mae close. "You're my sister, Maeve. You're my sister and I love you, and I would NEVER abandon you." Her whispers are soothing, her emotions just solidifying the affection she has for Mae.
"I'm sorry, Nat." She sobs, curling up against the assassin, who caresses her hair, silently crying as well. "I just can't forget about how it felt, when my parents left me at the School." Natasha shushes her, and pets Mae's hair.
"It's alright, Mae. I'm not going to hold it against you. We have to protect ourselves, but you too. Your emotions affect your abilities, and we can't have that happen when we're on the run." Natasha explains, and Mae wipes her face, and nods.
"I understand. It's okay." She takes a deep breath, and Natasha smiles at her as the two of them stand up. "Promise me, you'll be safe." She says as she hugs Natasha, who hugs Maeve back in return.
"We'll try, but we can't promise that." She points out, causing Mae to nod sadly as they part. "Now, go tell Steve goodbye." Mae smiles as she walks outside, Natasha is right one her heels. Steve smiles as Maeve smiles sadly at him, leaning up to kiss his cheek with a hand on his shoulder.
"Sorry." She murmurs, causing him to shake his head, his cheeks taking on a ruddy color as he cups her cheek with a free hand.
"No, doll. It's not your fault. I'm just sorry we can't stay." She smiles up at him, leaning up on her tiptoes to throw her arms around him.
"Please be safe, try and protect each other." She whispers in his ear as he places his hands on her waist, hugging her back.
"Of course, doll. And, don't forget that we're here for you, no matter what." He murmurs as she nods, leaning back on her heels. She ignores the rush of warmth in her chest, knowing that it doesn't belong to her. "You take care of Bucky for me, when he wakes up, okay?"
"Of course, Steve. You can count on me." She promises, causing him to smile, and scratch his scruffy cheek.
"I know, doll. I'll... give you two a minute to say goodbye." He says, gesturing between Natasha and Maeve. He walks a bit away as she turns to Natasha, who is smirking at her.
"What?" Natasha shakes her head and laughs, yanking Maeve by the wrist into her arms.
"You couldn't be more oblivious, even with your powers." Natasha says, hugging Maeve.
"No, I know how he feels. But, it's just a crush for him. He feels warmth when he's near me, but elation at the mere mention of Peggy's name." She steps away from Natasha. "And, I don't feel that way about him. I don't feel that way, after..."
"Logan, I know." She grinds out his name, before kissing her forehead. "Rat bastard." Her snarl has Maeve throwing her head back, laughing as Natasha blinks, before smiling. "Good to see you laughing. I love you, sis."
"Love you too, sis." She hugs the assassin again. "I'll see you soon, yeah?" She grins.
"It'll be fun." Natasha promises.
"Bye, Nat." She says, and the assassin nods as she starts to walk away, the King nods the Maeve, before walking towards the other two, walking them back toward the castle as one of the women warriors comes into view, standing on the hill with her spear in hand, waiting as Shuri rolls her eyes.
"Mae, these are you Kimoyo beads." She hands the to Maeve, who slides them on her wrist. "I've personally designed them, they will allow you to make calls, and purchases. Brother has taken care of funds, so you need not worry about it." Shuri explains, causing Maeve to nod as she studies the beads. "There are many other things they can be used for, but you can learn about them later."
"Thank you, Shuri." Maeve says as she slides the bracelet up and down, looking at them before, looking up at the Princess. "Would you- I mean... Could you- I feel..." Shuri was her stumble over her words, before nodding as she gestures towards the door.
"I will stay, until you are settled." She says with a smile, the two of them duck inside the hut, the lights coming on as the sun starts to set outside. The two young women talk for a few hours, about the world outside the Wakandan boarders, and Maeve's history with the Avengers and her life before. Shuri talks about the culture of Wakanda, her shenanigans with her brother, and his wife Nakia, and even life inside the castle. It turns out, they're just two lonely girls, craving a friendship. This might work out for the two of them, after all.

PERSON THEY CAN’T LIVE WITHOUT : shuri, ororo, monica lynne, and his mother, ramonda. PERSON WHO NEVER FAILS TO MAKE THEM SMILE : wakandan children, the crew ( luke cage, misty knight, monica rambeau, and manifold ), avengers ( notably tony, steve, thor, etc. ), fantastic four, queen mother ramonda, monica lynne, ross, shuri, ororo, nakia,
PERSON THEY FEEL SAFE TO BE VULNERABLE AROUND : nakia, ororo, monica, and his mother, ramonda. t’challa never sought validity from anyone but he did want his mother’s opinion on where he stood compared to the previous black panthers. PERSON THEY WANT TO IMPRESS : once upon a time, he desired to be worthy in the eyes of the black panthers of old but their ideologies clashed so much to the point t’challa accepts that he is likely going to disappoint them with the decisions he makes and he works to get over that. what matters most are the people that are living. so, his lovers ( depending on the verse; nakia, ororo, and or monica ), his royal family and the rest of nation.  PERSON THEY WANT TO SPEND THEIR LIFE WITH : there was a time t’challa discovered a way ‘cure death’ and he was tempted to become a immortal king due to having no heirs and being so concerned with wakanda’s well being. so i’ll say wakanda, albeit he dropped the idea of becoming immortal and settled for simply being the a influential figure that still has the power to shape home’s future. other than, his goddess ( ororo ) / queen ( nakia).  PERSON THEY FEEL THEY NEED TO PROTECT : the agents of wakanda, the ultimates, defenders, fantastic four, illuminati, queen divine justice, the crew, dora milaje, wakandan people, blackbolt, agent ross, bucky barnes, mutant (rights), avengers, monica lynne ( he was devastated when she died from cancer ), ororo, shuri, queen mother, and nakia.
PERSON THEY ARE AFRAID TO BE REJECTED BY :  again, at first, his father and the rest of the old black panthers. not any longer. bast, while he does respect her, a part of him questions her for leaving wakanda of present day  to be the goddesses to a more war-mongering culture of wakandans in the future. his lovers and his people are on his highest priority, so failing them is a reality he wishes to avoid above all else.
PERSON THEY’D TAKE SHIT FROM & NOT MIND :  his family, his people, mute zone communities ( they’ve hacked themselves off of wakanda networks and he respects whatever reason they may have for detaching themselves ), fantastic four, monica, ororo, nakia, namor, m’baku ( the intergalactic version ), ramonda, and nakia.
PERSON THEY WOULDN’T HESITATE TO KILL :  enemies of wakanda ( nazi’s, skrull, ulysses klaw, killmonger, etc. ), even friends when they turn on him.
PERSON THEY NEVER EXPECTED TO LIKE BUT NOW LOVE : deadpool. i wouldn’t say he loves wade, but he certainly finds him amusing. logan has his respect to an extent. like all other wakanda’s, t’challa is skeptical about outsiders, although he wants / has opened his borders to outsider, so if a foreign party prove to be an ally and doesn’t make t’challa regret letting them in their country and or working alongside them, he’ll love / respect you. PERSON THEY FEEL BETRAYED BY :  namor, the x-men, storm ( a long time ago when namor waged war on wakanda ), nakia ( malice ), tony stark, deadpool,  desturi, the rogue dora milaje and everyone that sided with his enemies. PERSON THEY RESPECT BUT DO NOT LIKE: doom, namor ( barely ), hunter ( barely ), wolverine. PERSON THEY FEEL LIKE THEY HAVE FAILED : t’chaka, bast, kantu, nakia / malice, the panthers of the past, and himself at times.

Aren’t you a little to old to be trick-or-treating?
written by: nwfanmega

“Andre Anthony!” Michonne shouted, stumbling on the slick hardwood floor as she chased the wet, naked toddler down the long hallway. “Get back here now!”
He turned back to look at her, gleeful eyes grounding her in place as his mischievous grin tugged at her heart. The two years since Mike’s passing had been the most brutal, numbing of her– their entire lives. Over a year of waking to her own tears soaking the blankets shrouding her underfed, sleep-deprived body had morphed into months of mornings being roused by cheerful laughter emanating from her rambunctious baby boy.
Today was Halloween and her energetic imp had tickled her awake as if it were Christmas morning. His infectious excitement carried them through the day as they carved lopsided pumpkins, filled a comically enormous bowl with assorted treats, and meticulously decorated their front porch with spiderwebs and skeletons.
All the activity made a bath necessary and after the end of Andre’s tub-time, he’d insisted on retrieving the clawed gloves Auntie Sasha had expertly fashioned to accompany his costume. Seeing the bright smile on his face warmed her from the inside out, making it impossible for Michonne to willfully tap down his enthusiasm.
After all, this had been Mike’s favorite holiday too. The elaborate couples’ costumes he would sweet-naturedly charm her into wearing had created distinct memories she could hold close for the rest of her life. Cleopatra and Mark Antony. Samson and Delilah. She was always his strong, resilient warrior.
It had been forever since she’d felt like his fearless fighter. The return of his illness had dropped her into depths of despair from which salvation seemed unreachable. But she had this tender-hearted boy to raise, who they’d agreed was the very best parts of both of them.
“Sorry Mommy,” he pouted, dropping his head as he bounced from one foot to the other. “Just wanna make sure I put it on ‘fore trick treaters come.”
He stepped on the tips of his toes, reaching over to the console in the foyer to grab the box holding the gloves for his costume.
“Ok baby,” she gently said, smiling as she dropped to her knees and opened the towel in her hands.
He ran back, jumping into her arms as she peppered his baby-soft face with kisses until he squirmed to be released.
“Ready for treat trick Mommy?” he asked, cupping her face with his little hands.
She nodded, wrapping the towel around his still damp body before lifting him up and carrying him to his room.
As soon as she dropped him at his door, he scurried to his dresser, opening the lowest drawer and pulling out his favorite T’Challa underwear. He slipped them on, then turned to his mother, waiting expectantly for her to help him put on the rest of his outfit.
Michonne opened his closet door, pulling out the garment bag carrying the costume Sasha had painstakingly made for her favorite nephew. Unzipping it, she pulled it out and turned to gauge Andre’s reaction.
She closed her eyes as tears slipped past her lids. If she could have bottled his expression and saved it forever, she would have. Silently, he clasped his hand over his mouth as he stared at the meticulously crafted creation.
He held his arms up as she helped him slip his little legs into the bottom half of the suit, before gliding it up his torso and spinning him around to zip the back.
“Wow!” she exclaimed, stepping back and spinning him towards the mirror. “You’re Black Panther.”
She watched Andre’s eyes widened, his little eyebrows rising so high she could easily count the creases on his forehead.
“I am, Mommy,” he whispered, tilting his head to look up at her with awe-filled eyes.
“Remember, I answer the door,” Michonne began, looking down at an eager Andre while adjusting her gold collar. “But you get to hand out the candy.”
Andre nodded solemnly, laser-focused on the overflowing bowl next to the front door. He’d insisted on matching outfits, having spent what turned out to be a very long week vacillating between Shuri and Okoye, finally deciding his fierce mother was Okoye; ready to battle evil by the Black Panther’s side.
Michonne glanced at the hallway mirror, taking in the red faux-leather breastplate Sasha had painstakingly drafted, cut out, and hand-delivered with explicit instructions on how to sew everything together. Sasha’s design sensibilities hadn’t rubbed off on her, but the hours spent in high school sewing her best friend’s artistic creations had. So while fairly adept at following the directions, she couldn’t have put together such an ensemble without Sasha’s inventive flare – and latent OCD – driving the endeavor.
The bell rang, startling her and drawing a loud giggle from Andre.
“It’s showtime!” Michonne exclaimed, squeezing his hand as she walked to the door.
Andre anxiously hopped up and down as she reached over his head and opened the front door. She tried to swiftly absorb the scene in front of her, shifting between one partially masked pair of crystal blue eyes to another, observing what could only be father and son.
“Trick or Treat!” the young boy enthusiastically chirped.
“Mommy!” Andre exclaimed, squeezing around her legs to stand in front of the visitors. “He’s Black Panther too! I told you there’d be another one!”
Michonne laughed as Andre made his way over to the little boy who’d been partly obscured by his father, but now stood proudly in front. As the boys admired each other’s outfits, Michonne turned her attention to the father, who slowly lifted the glass panel of his Iron Man helmet to reveal a tangle of damp curls plastered to his forehead.
“Boy, didn’t take into account how hot this thing was gonna be,” he announced, sweeping the curls from his forehead. “I’m Rick and that’s Carl. I believe we’re neighbors. Just moved up the street.”
“Nice to meet you,” Michonne smiled, leaning out of the doorway to take his outstretched hand. “I’m Michonne and my Black Panther is Andre.”
“Did a fine job with that,” he quietly said, conspiratorially leaning in and closing the space between them. “Pretty sure Carl’s gonna be talkin’ ‘bout it for weeks. I got his online, but yours… Wow. Both of yours are awfully impressive.”
His eyes quickly scanned her body, before making their way back up to her eyes.
“No, no, no” she giggled, shaking her head and gesturing between herself and Andre. “All of this is the work of a very good, very talented friend. I probably would’ve been knee-deep in the sales bin at Walmart.”
“Sounds like a good friend.”
“She is,” Michonne quietly replied.
“Don’t tell me you’re all decked out and only handing out candy,” Rick exclaimed, turning to watch the boys showing of their best moves on the porch.
“Andre was really excited about his costume. Less so about going out. I guess we’re homebodies… Plus, I’m pretty sure he thinks there’s gonna be a lot left at the end of the night. He turns three in December and doesn’t remember last year when the neighborhood cleared us out by 8pm.”
“I know how that is,” Rick said, nodding slowly. “Carl turned seven in June and still talks about how we didn’t get out early enough last year, leading to his ‘diminished haul.’ Not even sure where he got that from, to tell the truth. Had to promise this year we’d head out as soon as the sun set.”
“Andre’s started remembering stuff like this,” Michonne said wistfully, eyes dropping to her shiny patent leather boots. “Figured this would be a good year to start doing it up.”
“Loved that age,” Rick said, noting the caution in her eyes as she brought them back up to meet his. “Wish I coulda’ kept Carl there a bit longer…”
“Well, you seem to be doing just fine,” Michonne noted, watching Andre show Carl how the claws were attached to his gloves.
Rick turned to look at the boys.
“Wasn’t really sure Black Panther was, you know, appropriate for Carl. But it is his favorite character…”
“It’s appropriate for any kid who loves the character.”
The air stilled between them as they quietly gazed at each other. Something about the twinkle in Rick’s eyes calmed her in a way she hadn’t felt in a long time. She didn’t quite know what to make of it.
“Carl loves the comics, but I’m terrible with stuff like that. Can’t keep the characters straight to save my life. I only picked Iron Man ‘cause that’s the one I usually remember. I’m a disappointment to my seven year old.”
“Then lucky for you, Carl now has neighbors well-versed in all things Marvel. He’ll never have to suffer in silence again.”
“Wanna go trick-or-treating with us?” he asked, laughing at her teasing dig.
She was fun. He could get used to this.
“Aren’t you a little too old to be trick-or-treating?” she smirked, pointing at the plastic pumpkin in his hand.
He grinned, eyes falling to the ground, before rising and getting lost, once again, in her dazzling smile. He couldn’t remember the last time a woman had registered in his consciousness like this. Maybe this was the fresh start he needed too. He looked over at Carl, bending down so Andre could whisper into his ear.
“Nah,” Rick replied, biting his bottom lip as he turned his full attention back to Michonne. “Never too old for a little bit’a fun.”

Roaring Twenties Mafia AU
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maximoff Twins: Russian orphan immigrants, hired by the Hydra Gang as the youngest hitman and hitwoman in America. Wanda dresses in ruby flapper gear.
After Pietro is gunned down in a gang fight, Wanda ends up in a mental institution. She is “rescued” by....
Hawkeye: Low-level mob sniper, who turned to crime to support his family. His wife Laura turns a blind eye to her husband’s dark work, but it’s eating away at her day by day.
Steve Rogers: Like many WWI vets, he couldn’t find legitimate work, and turned to crime. At first wanting to protect the innocent, he started a vigilante gang, consisting of himself, Bucky, Hawkeye, Sam and Wanda. However, Steve’s ideas of “heroism” were often extreme, and self-centered. His old flame Peggy Carter distances herself from him and marries someone else. Steve has a brief affair with her underage niece Sharon, before admitting he’s in love with Bucky.
Sam Wilson: Ex-Airforce pilot from WWI, Sam went to crime for the same reason as Hawkeye. Sam wants to keep crime and danger to a minimum for the most part, but feels lucky enough to have any place to stay and work that he can never ultimately stand up to Steve.
Bucky Barnes: Shell-shocked vet and childhood friend of Steve Rogers, he is one of New York’s most vicious hitmen for years, before Steve finds and recruits him for his gang. After Steve’s radical antics make things worse though, Bucky jumps ship to the Black Panther gang, and takes the new hitman name White Wolf. And yes, he killed Tony’s parents, and in this ‘verse he might actually have been partially in control of himself when he did it. Things are gonna get ugly.
Tony Stark: Rival gang leader to Steve Rogers, ruling New York City, Tony specializes in inventing and selling weapons, among other items like cars and radios. This in addition to the obvious business of booze, naturally. Once extremely reckless, he now believes in doing things the careful business way, and is continuously frustrated by Steve’s erratic “vigilante” antics (that often make things much worse).
Peter Parker: Adorkable newsie orphan, eager to help Mr. Stark with his “business,” without knowing its full dark extent
Jarvis: Tony’s butler, who gets shot and killed during a gang fight
Pepper Potts: Tony’s secretary, and later wife. Because this is the mafia, he isn’t very faithful to her.
Friday: Tony’s new secretary, and mistress Stephen Strange: Back-alley doctor, willing to patch up injured gangsters, and give birth control to women. (Note: “Birth control” does not necessarily mean abortion; in the 1920s, literal birth control was literally illegal.)  After Tony and Steve’s gangs go to war, Strange declares himself uninvolved and willing to treat both sides, but clearly has a bias towards Tony. Yes, they are also screwing around.
T’Challa: Second-generation immigrant from Wakanda, he lives in a Wakandan-American neighborhood, where everyone wears Wakandan-styled 1920s outfits. After his father is killed, he takes over the Black Panther gang. He causes some controversy when he takes in Bucky Barnes, the first ever white boy to join the Black Panther gang.
Nakia: Enthusiastic dancer, feminist and Civil Rights activist, Nakia is constantly urging T’Challa to take his efforts beyond self-serving crime, and urges him to use his power and influence for more important and selfless matters
Okoye: Badass hit-woman disguised as a flapper
Shuri: Spunky flapper girl and inventor, brilliant mechanic, loyal to her big brother’s Black Panther gang. She ends up with the white newsie Peter Parker, and things get complicated from there.
Everett Ross: Low-level Prohibition Agent, who ends up getting corrupted and working as a double-agent for the Black Panther gang, feeding them info on the FBI from within
Ulysses Klaue: Weapons dealer who tries to rob both Tony Stark and Erik Killmonger. He doesn’t last long.
Erik Killmonger: T’Challa’s bitter cousin, determined to take over the Black Panther gang for himself, and make the entire crimminal underworld far more violent
Natasha Romanoff: Femme fatale flapper of the sultry Jordan Baker variety, who is secretly one of the deadliest hit-women and spies in the country. She works for...
Nick Fury: The ultimate boss of all the bosses, ruling all organized crime in America. Or trying to anyway. The black eyepatch and coat are now accompanied by a matching fedora.
Ava Starr: Enthusiastic dancer at speak-easies, she is secretly dying of an illness that she needs to buy medicine illegally for. To afford this, she works as a spy and bootlegger.
Thor: World-famous heavyweight boxing champion, who, while not a member of any gang, is “affiliated” with several, due in no small part to his love for booze and his willingness to rough people up for money. .
Loki: Thor’s sketchier adopted brother, trying to worm his way into politics using every illegal method imaginable and then some. He also has the hots for Tony Stark.
Bruce Banner: shell-shocked WWI vet who developed a split personality from his trauma. His main personality, Bruce Banner, works in a lab brewing illegal alcohol for Tony Stark’s business. His other personality, “the Hulk,” is a feared hitman and part-time boxer (often pitted against Thor)
Thaddeus Ross: Radical Prohibition Agent, who really has it in for Bruce Banner. Ultra-conservative, he embodies all the common bigotries of the ‘20s up to infinity. He despises the 19th Amendment, the flapper movement, and jazz.
Betty Ross: Thaddeus’s innocent yet surprisingly rebellious daughter. She has an affair with Bruce Banner, and continues to help him and others in illegal dealings against her psychotic father.
Peggy Carter: One of the first female lawyers in America, she helped Steve out of sticky spots years ago. But as he’s grown more extreme and violent, she’s distanced herself from him, much to his chagrin. Eventually, she wants nothing more than to put all of these other characters behind bars.
Sharon Carter: Peggy’s underage niece, who Steve has an affair with, because Mafia show.
Peter Quill: Captain of a rum-running boat, delivering illegal booze from foreign countries. He does a lot of business with Stark’s gang.
Rocket Raccoon and Groot: Classic bootleggers
Gamora: Everyone things she’s Quill’s moll, but it’s more the other way around. She is so the one in charge.
“Mantis:” Innocent, Asian immigrant, who was initially manipulated into working for the vicious crime lord Ego, but now has better work aboard Peter Quill’s rum-running ship.  She is an adorable bubbly flapper, who earned the nickname “Mantis” due to her cute yet feisty nature.
Drax: Heavyweight champion turned hitman, whose wife and daughter were killed by Thanos’s gang
Jane Foster: A young woman going to college for science, and fighting sexism at every turn. She’s not really interested in the flapper culture, but is very big on suffrage and feminism.  She falls in love with Thor, but dumps him after gradually learning about his involvement with crime, and deciding she can’t handle that.
Darcy Lewis: Jane’s flapper roommate, who ends up having affairs with damn near everyone, male and female.
Erik Selvig: Swedish immigrant and Jane and Darcy’s professor at college, he ends up having some dealings with the mob, and was once blackmailed into brewing booze for Loki’s business; but overall Erik has managed to keep his hands relatively clean for the most part.
Scott Lang: Bootlegger and heist expert who mostly works for the Pym/Van Dyne family speakeasy. He was briefly a part of Steve Rogers’ gang, but after landing in prison for that, decided to stick to small-time crime.
Hope Van Dyne: Businesswoman training to someday take over her parents’ speakeasy and booze trade
Carol Danvers: Female aviator and party-animal flapper, she enters the world of crime after discovering the corruption among the government she used to work for
