@beatingheart-bride
At this, Dorian and Beau couldn't help but exchange little glances, both touched and amused by the girlish glee that came over Emily at this question, her delight at recounting such an important moment in her and Randall's courtship, the moment where she made her feelings known, and the two officially became a (private) item.
(Just as well that Emily was so forward in that moment. Something told Beau that Randall-sweet, shy, humble Randall Pace, who in some ways seemed unable to believe his best friend was so unfathomably wealthy and sometimes worried about stepping out of line when spending time with him-would not be so bold, no matter how much he loved her, and Dorian was inclined to agree.)
"Well, I offer you both my deepest congratulations on your engagement," Beau nodded with an earnest smile, before turning a touch melancholy as he looked at the pair, asking, "And, on a more dour note...please, tell him I send my deepest condolences, in regards to the passing of his mother. She was...a lovely woman; hard-working, kind, a good friend...she was an admirable woman, who raised an admirable son."
Though Mrs. June Pace didn't work at Gracey Manor as long as she would've liked (having found the pay worth it if it meant getting to tend to such a beautiful, sprawling garden day in and day out, as well as see her one and only son finally have a friend beyond his teddy bear), she and Beauregard Ghast got along very well in the time she was in the Gracey's employ, her expressing gratitude at Beau looking after her son, treating him no different than Dorian, while he openly admired her resolve, her sense of humor in the face of adversity, and her skill with all things that grew. She was a lovely woman, and Beau would've liked to have gotten to know her better.

hi, i really like seeing your headcanons on my dash 👉👈 can we see hcs about what kind of sweets/desserts the pizza tower cast would like?
Tytyty!!!
Sweets!
Peppino: Not the biggest fan of sweets, but enjoys lighter things like cookies and cakes. Chocolate chip cookies are his favorite.
Gustavo: Loves cakes! Absolutely loves red velvet and banana cake!
Mr. Stick: Really likes pies. Any pie, really. But his all time favorite would be cherry pie.
Pepperman: Not too big on sweets. Probably enjoys yellow cake. Boring.
The Vigilante: You might think it's cheesecake, but that would be cannibalism!! No, he's a simple man and enjoys blueberry muffins!
The Noise: ALL. OF. THEM. He'll even eat carrot cake if it's sweet enough. His favorite is probably banana pudding, especially if there's vanilla wafers in it.
Noisette: She enjoys breads. Pumpkin bread and banana bread are her favorites! Especially with glaze. She also likes donuts of all kinds, Boston cream being her #1.
Fake Peppino: Yes! He will eat anything, even plain sugar! Although chewy caramel seems to be his absolute favorite.
Pizzahead: Loves pastries, especially cannolis! He also loves apple turnovers.
Pillar John: Hear me out. Chocolate covered bacon. Yes, that's a thing, and yes, it's delicious.
Gerome: Cinnamon rolls. He can't resist the smell. He sees them as a dessert item rather than a breakfast item.

Further description and pictures below
Coffee Crisp
Tumblr media
Chocolate bar with alternating wafers and a coffee flavoured candy filling is good (and I say this as someone who dislikes coffee)
Ketchup Chips
Tumblr media
Exactly like it says chips with ketchup flavouring (personally I find the vinegar flavouring in them to strong)
Canadian Bacon
Tumblr media
Look if you like bacon you'll like this. It's so good, very lean and not nearly as greasy as side/ regular bacon (has a bit of a hammy taste tbh)
Hawaiin Pizza
Tumblr media
Everyone knows it, it's Pineapple and Ham Pizza, I regret to inform that it was an invention of Canada
Timbits
Tumblr media
They may be donut holes but they are like quintessential Canadian.
Girl Guide Cookies
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Girl Scouts can keep their dozen or so cookie types. All I need is some Classic Chocolate and Vanilla or Chocolate Mint. Sold in Spring and Winter
Maple Cream Cookies
Tumblr media
What's more Canadian then a Maple Cookie. Very sweet but oh so tasty
Caeser
Tumblr media
An alcoholic Cocktail made of, Vodka, Clamato (Primarily Tomato Juice and Clam broth with seasoning) hot sauce, Worcestershire sauce. Rim is coated in Celery Salt.
Basically like a bloody Mary but what distinguishes it from that is the Clam Broth.
I don't get it but people like it
Kraft Dinner/KD
Tumblr media
Not Canadian Originated growing up on this stuff it's basically Canadian enough to me. (Also the packaging is different up here anyway)
Mackintosh Toffee
Tumblr media
I mean it's toffee- specifically in Canada it's more of a hard candy then soft (like it was originally in the UK)

Best Autumnal Recipes:
No Bake Spiderweb Cheesecake: Absolutely gorgeous and showstopping delicious with relatively low effort, this one has rather quickly entered my teatime repertoire any year I can find the time to make it! (For the wafers themselves, I'd recommend these, and the spiders can be made relatively easily by melting Rolos on top of a pretzel for about ten seconds, flattening them with the back of a spoon, and adding mini M&M "eyes" and legs from broken pretzels.)
Witch Hat Cookies: As far as cute, easy fixes go, I have a particular love for fudge stripe cookies (or the store brand equivalent) with the chocolate side facing up, topped with a thin ring of purple icing around the center and an unwrapped Hershey's kiss (with another band of purple icing to form the hatband). I'd call them zuckerhutchien but my first-generation German mother would burn me as a witch on the spot, so instead I just refer to them as spooky book club treats.
Gingersnaps: Also an absolute classic; this recipe in particular has been the cause of much appreciation from various friends and professors
Chai Spiced Maple Cookies With Browned Butter Frosting: Definitely a mouthful there, but these remain a favorite for Hobbit Day and the rest of the pumpkin spice season!
Mini Pumpkin Cake: Ach! This is one of the top recipes on my to-do list. It looks absolutely delicious and the absolute perfect size for a small pumpkin spice treat...on that note, please let me know if you've found a vegetarian equivalent to candy corn pumpkins!
Hahaha YES: Candy Corn Pumpkins
Soft Molasses Cookies With Pumpkin Cream Filling: This is more of a transitional treat, but still a nice one irregardless. Personally, I'd recommend baking the cookies a little longer, so you get just enough of a crisp finish on the edge to compliment the cream cheese filling.
Brown Butter Maple Pecan Cookies: I haven't tried these yet either, but some baking communities have been going wild about them, and you really can never go wrong with either browned butter or a nice turtle flavor palette.
Baked Pumpkin Donuts: Skeptical, you may be! "Who bakes a donut?" you'll say! The answer: me. I used to work in a bakery that specialized in donuts and had a pretty good selection of baked (as well as fried) donuts, and the pumpkin is perfect for providing that soft cake-y moisture content. (The batter uses the same recipe as a similar pumpkin cream cheese muffin, and while I can't speak for the author's, pumpkin muffins are quickly getting me through the busiest season in coffeeshops, bakeries, and academics alike.)
Pumpkin Chocolate Chip Bread: What's better than banana bread? Pumpkin bread, of course!! This recipe, with the exception of maybe the chocolate chips (depending on brand, although chopped vegan chocolate bars usually work well) is entirely vegan, not to mention a pretty quick stress-bake to boot.
Pumpkin Scones (Starbucks Copycat): Once again, I'll be honest: I have not tried these, albeit these vanilla bean scones have been a popular favorite and we, as a barista at a local coffeeshop, have a legal obligation to one-up Starbucks at any given point. Definitely a must for the next cup of tea!
Caramel Apple Cheesecake Bars: Between Rosh Hashannah and Halloween, we've got to have one obligatory Halloween dessert with some type of caramel apple base!
Happy baking!

Oreo
July 10, 2024
I never learned how to properly start a story. Every time I think I have achieved the perfect combination of just-enough (but not-too-much) back story, my editor will come along and say, “Take out these three sentences” or “Cut your opening paragraph,” or “Cut the entire first half of the story and let the middle be the beginning.”
It’s always about the middle for editors. The beginning is unnecessary and the ending is repetitive and they just want to peel off the two chocolate ends of the cookie and leave the sweet, creamy center of the story.
Because I know her cuts will come swooping in, I sometimes pad my stories with extra bits on the front end: it might be an overly-thorough introduction of main and supporting characters; it might be frilly verbiage concerning the setting or maybe a secretive-but-revealing prelude to the conflict that is the main story. I always hope this padding will protect the center.
I’m not fooling her, though. Inevitably my editor comes along and kills those extra bits and the center, too. “Nobody cares about the pony you had when you were ten. Nobody cares that you always wanted to do what you were told NOT to do. Nobody cares about your mother and how she let you eat so many cookies that you made yourself sick.”
I’ll argue with her, sometimes. “But readers need to know about Mom’s antique cookie jar, always full and available, on the kitchen counter, and yet how she hid the apples away in the bottom drawer of the refrigerator and told us we were only allowed to have one a day (making them, of course, much more appealing.)
(I really, really loved apples. All summer long I would take mine down to the barn to share with my pony. Tucked up in a corner of his stall on a pile of hay as he nibbled around me, I could read my books and listen to the quiet and we would be completely alone except for each other.)
The editor doesn’t care. These bits of my life are frequently sacrificed to her pen, excised completely from the story like the rotten spots in fruit; like fathers who leave families; like the outgrown pony just before I went away to college.
The ends of my stories are routinely chopped, too. “Just end it here after they kiss,” the editor says. “No one reads past the point of the happily-ever-after,” and “cut everything after the middle,” and “it’s not good enough.” “Do it again, better.”
So around my stories I write these sacrificial parts: beginnings… with chocolate cookies, apples, the pony, the mom, and the quiet spaces. Endings… with what comes after the kiss: the love, the happiness, the growing up and the growing old. I write it all knowing it will soon be gone with a quick incision, red-pen corrections hemorrhaging details I thought I couldn’t live without.
So here is my story for you, ready to be chopped and rewritten or savored in its entirety. Mom’s snack theory says I must let you choose either the one I have made easiest or the one most forbidden. So do, or don’t, as you wish.
You see, the thing is that I never developed a taste for those cookies when I was younger. The apples, the pony, the quiet…these were all enough for me before my real life began.
I grew up and found love in the usual places: In lemon drops and butterscotch and ladyfingers. In oranges and pomegranates and over-ripened mangos. My loves were always sweet and ephemeral.
And then, finally, I found love in the security of an unexpected marriage to a man I wanted to kiss and have babies with and hide away as hermits on a peaceful hill. Life with him was like having the perfect box of 13 assorted doughnuts. You know the kind where they take out the center and fry them up separately? The first few doughnuts I ate tasted great, the next 6 or 7 were ok, and by the last few I was sick and suddenly my marriage was as empty as the cardboard donut box. I finally had to take my two munchkins and run.
Hesitation and moderation have been my post-marriage friends. So, too,
vanilla wafers. Boring and unadorned, these are the adult choice of snack foods. They offer no sugary highs and no bottomless lows; no sudden burst of flavor or cravings of addiction. I know I will never go wild and eat an entire box of vanilla wafers all at once. They are safe.
(I once left an open box of vanilla wafers sitting on the kitchen counter near the antique cookie jar. Twenty years later they tasted, somehow, exactly the same: dry, plain, and comforting in their ‘same-ness’. Stuffed with calories and empty of nutrition, no one is fooled by their masquerade of goodness.)
I have occasionally tried some wonderfully addictive things, but I always feared their sweetnesses would complicate my homogenous life and make me, somehow, dissatisfied with unchanging, predictable vanilla.
So these days I eat the apples and pretend to be satisfied with my vanilla wafers, and I wait for the editor’s blade to come stabbing at my memories and my plans for the end of my story. “Where is the kissing?” she will ask. “Why did you take out the meet-cute and the kissing and the sweet, happy ending?” She knows that I am trying to re-frame my story to give it more importance, more gravitas, more weight in a world where happiness floats on currents of air and is gone as you squint into the setting sun.
“Cut here,” she will say, “and move this last sentence to the beginning of the middle third.” “What is this extra paragraph doing here? Just cut it.” “This is still a half-baked story at best.”
—-
When you graft healthy skin onto a gaping wound, you harvest a piece of healthy skin a half-size smaller than the area that needs covered. “It will never fit,” you think. “It will never grow large enough or fast enough to fill this space and protect this body from further injury.” If you are patient, and have a few sharp scalpels and a delicate touch, you can make hundreds of tiny incisions into the healthy skin after you harvest it but before you suture it into place. These tiny incisions, with their tiny drops of blood along their tiny edges, allow the healthy skin to stretch in all directions to fill the void. Together the donor skin and the old injury grow into a stronger, more protective coating for a person or a dog or a pony.
You can’t do that with cookies. If you twist off the top of an Oreo and leave the creamy center unprotected, the center will harden and lose its flavor and appeal. If you twist the top—or the bottom—off the Oreo you have to be prepared to eat the entire cookie immediately or accept that it will be stale, hardened and tasteless.
I have tried to explain this to my editor: have tried to explain to her that without the beginning, or the end, my story is just a gaping, uncovered wound that no one wants to see.
“Be patient,” she tells me, as she makes her tiny stab wounds and stretches me thin and pulls my stories to the very edge of what becomes, in the end, unrecognizable.
I would like to share an apple with my pony again. Would like to be sitting on the stack of hay, listening to his quiet nibbling and the silence all around me.

Top 5 Must-Try Treats from New York City's Dessert Franchise Scene
New York City is a melting pot of culture, diversity, and, of course, delectable treats. Amidst its bustling streets and iconic skyline, the dessert franchise scene stands out as a haven for those with a sweet tooth. From classic confections to innovative creations, here are five must-try treats that encapsulate the essence of NYC's dessert paradise:
1. Cronuts from Dominique Ansel Bakery
When it comes to iconic NYC desserts, the cronut reigns supreme. Created by pastry chef Dominique Ansel, this delectable hybrid of a croissant and a donut has garnered a cult-like following. The flaky layers of a croissant, combined with the shape and indulgence of a donut, are truly a match made in dessert heaven. The flavors change monthly, offering a delightful surprise with each visit. Be prepared to wait in line, but trust me, the heavenly taste is worth every minute.
2. Milk Bar's Compost Cookie
Christina Tosi's Milk Bar has revolutionized the dessert game with its playful and inventive treats. Among their stellar lineup, the Compost Cookie stands out as a must-try. Packed with pretzels, potato chips, coffee grounds, oats, butterscotch, and chocolate chips, this cookie is an unexpected symphony of flavors and textures. It's a perfect representation of NYC's vibrant and eclectic culinary scene.
3. Magnolia Bakery's Banana Pudding
A dessert list in NYC would be incomplete without a mention of Magnolia Bakery's iconic banana pudding. Creamy vanilla pudding combined with fresh bananas and vanilla wafers creates a nostalgic and irresistible treat. It's the perfect balance of sweetness and creaminess that will transport you back to childhood with every spoonful. Pro tip: grab an extra serving because you won't want to share!
4. Levain Bakery's Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie
Prepare your taste buds for a life-changing experience with Levain Bakery's Chocolate Chip Walnut Cookie. This cookie isn't just large; it's massive in flavor. The crispy exterior gives way to a gooey, fudgy interior filled with chunks of premium chocolate and walnuts. It's the epitome of a classic chocolate chip cookie, elevated to a whole new level.
5. Serendipity 3's Frozen Hot Chocolate
While known for its whimsical décor and extravagant desserts, Serendipity 3's Frozen Hot Chocolate is a standout indulgence. Imagine a rich, velvety chocolate concoction blended into a frozen, creamy delight. Served in a giant goblet with whipped cream on top, this dessert drink is a testament to extravagance and pure indulgence.

AI-generated donuts
If you're going to open a late-night donut shop, you're going to need a unique set of over-the-top donuts to set the proper festive atmosphere. But how to keep the ideas coming?
I decided to see what donut ideas I could get using OpenAI's GPT-3 text-generating models. I collected seven of the weirdest donuts and descriptions I could find (such as a pizza donut, or a dirt-themed donut), and presented them as a list for the AI to complete. I've drawn a few of the best donuts it added to the list.
Tumblr media
[human illustrations of some of the ai-generated donuts below]
When I say I used "GPT-3" for this project it's hard to be exact about it, because OpenAI often updates the models. The newest GPT-3 versions (as of May 2022) actually did the worst at this task - they kept presenting me with real donuts that they'd seen during their online training, and not even particularly weird donuts. They were trying to match what was most common online, not what I was asking for. But the original early-2020 GPT-3 models were more willing to deliver the weirdness. Here are some more of my favorite results from the various models!
The biggest model, DaVinci
Violet Beauregarde - A lemon glazed donut with blue raspberry eyes and a raspberry center The Candleberry Flu - A chocolate doughnut filled inside with ganache plus a dripping candle on top that's dripping liquid sediments Brick of Yum - A glazed doughnut sandwiching American cheese, with red pepper jelly inside The Confusatron - A doughnut sliced into three layers - vanilla, coconut, and chocolate, dipped in chocolate ganache and topped with sugar pearls that look like circuit boards The Purple Stuff - Chocolate, oreo, and purple stuff sprinkled with powdered sugar
Curie, the second-largest model
Heckleberry - A strawberry donut smothered with blueberry syrup and crushed vegan Crunchies Donut of Doom - Rainbow donut filled with Frosted Flakes, black sprinkles, and sour candy The Alligator Rising - A spiral donut, frosted with chocolate and filled with a filling of chocolate hard-boiled egg and green apple slices Hell Raisin - A jelly donut with a filling of peanut butter and hot dogs Dark Crystal - A donut filled with candy corn and white chocolate chips I ♥ My Gay Ex - A rainbow Jell-O donut with white frosting, red sugar sprinkles, and pink glitter Fish N' Chips – Topped with chocolate and tangy tempura-flavoured icing
Babbage, the second-smallest model
Mr Crepe - Topped with tapioca pudding, green sprinkles Little Red Apples - Topped with pumpkin bread crumbs and small red apples Chalkista - Stationary donut with chalk dusting Horns - Cupcake gripped in both of the animal’s horns Julius Rooms - A pair of bottomless donuts Doughnut Forest - A profusion of donuts spread throughout the French Quarter Flintlock fennec - bacon, fried okra, and burnt thermochromic alcohol Baffle - cocoa powder, giraffes, and vanilla wafers
Ada, the smallest and definitely weirdest model
Bath Roll - Three donuts melted hot on one side Friar Flats - Topped with tomatoes, honey, red paint and ceramic chili caps Ponder Owls - magical, yellow-feathered donuts covered in icing with puffiness and shine By Soul - filled with firecrackers, black bean dip, red pepper syrup, and watermelon Coconut Fun - Sulphure hasn’t been wiped off, a demon cake filled with coconut cream and pistachios Blood Donut - Creamy moist donut topped with spoonfuls of delicious blood Goofy Trick - the elephant, is a clown and it's all about tossing treats into his skull Spankin’ - Other-colored donut with a frying pan in the middle
Bonus content: More of Ada's weird donuts (plus some donuts made of antimatter??)
Also you can buy the donuts on a tea towel! Along with pies, cookies, and breakfast cereals.

Swan Princess Party
A magical black and white swan princess party with pink, of course!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The idea of a swan party was inspired by the swan pool float we have had for a few years. It just so happened my daughter was into Barbie’s Swan Princess movie when I started planning her 4th birthday.
So, the swan idea came to life around swans and princesses  - feathers, ballet shoes (as an ode to Swan Lake), swans, and black and white accented with pink. Cake by Wink by Erika with added “4″ candle, photos by Johnny Than.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Black linens on the table with our white charivari chairs pulled in the colors perfectly! And, the cute swan plates looked great on the black linens. To turn the swan plates into swan princess plates, I found gold crowns and added them to the plates. Ta-da! Swan princess plates. We added the gold crowns to the swan masks, as well.
Behind the kids’s table, we hung silk wisteria on fishing line to have a hanging floral accent. It took way more pieces than I imagined (and I still wish I’d done more of them), but it was a fun photo spot.
Tumblr media
The  centerpieces were one of my all time favorites! I found the set of three swans in different sizes and ordered 2. My mom arranged the fresh flowers for the party and put them in the swan planters.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The food even reflected the black, white, and pink theme! Black licorice, chocolates, and chocolate goldfish were spread with yogurt covered pretzels, vanilla sugar wafers, iced animal cookies, vanilla ding dongs, white M&Ms, mini white chocolate Oreos, white chocolate covered mini Rice Krispie treats, white swirl suckers, white chocolate truffles, and pink M&Ms on my favorite melamine platter.
Another tray had the almost black colored grapes and an assortment of white cheeses, marcona almonds, macadamia nuts, and Pirate’s Booty.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We also used black rock candy in a container with more of the white chocolate pearls.  And, I found a great jewelry stand to display powdered donuts and chocolate donuts. Now the jewelry stand holds my daughter’s headbands.
White feather boas were great for draping around platters and decorations. And, we used the same flowers from our daughter’s Garden Party first birthday to add pink accents to the feathers (seriously the best faux peonies I’ve ever found).
Tumblr media
For decorated cookies, I chose a “4″ for the 4 year old along with a feather and swans. These were done by Sweets by Shey and were tasty and on theme. She even added a little sparkle to the 4s.
The tiered serving piece has become my go-to piece for the decorated cookies at the parties, so I’m linking it here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Another tray of food included White Cheddar Cheez-its, Pirates Booty, white cheddar popcorn, Chicken-in-a-Biscuit, Wheat Thins, and pink Goldfish to continue the white and pink foods.
I really enjoy carrying a theme all throughout the party, if you can’t tell.
Tumblr media
I found the cutest swan cups for all of the kids that we kept on the beverage table alongside “Swan Lake Lemonade” (pink, of course!) and the cutest swan mugs from Manor used for additional florals.
The floral swan printable sign was perfectly on theme and is linked here.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In addition to the feather and floral decor, we used swan stuffed animals like the ballerina swan pictured below from Manor.
Isn’t she a beauty with her crown and ballet slippers?!?
Tumblr media
Now to discuss my sweet girl’s dress!
Every year Cuteheads makes a custom piece for the birthday girl to wear. This year, Esther must have read my mind because she created this piece that was perfect for a Swan Princess Ballerina party - light pink tulle with swans all over accessorized with ballet flats and a peony hair piece.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Our swan princess ballerina was overjoyed when Rapunzel showed up to let her know Odette from Swan Lake sends birthday wishes! Fairest of All Parties has the BEST princesses in the Houston area. They worked with me tirelessly to try to have Odette from Swan Lake, but the costume was nowhere to be found and there was not enough time to create one.
My daughter’s favorite princess at the time was Rapunzel, so it was a welcome surprise for her. Rapunzel sang (beautifully) with the kids, told stories, and shared a treasure chest of treasures. She even did face painting on the kids.
Tumblr media
We loved her so much, we used Fairest of All Parties for the 5th birthday (post coming soon) and are now planning number 6 with another Fairest of All Parties princess.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Favors for the kids included a swan princess holder, swan princess “Thank You” sticker, princess crown full of candy, princess lip balm, princess rings, princess bracelets, and stickers tied with tulle.

Random Crumbled! Character concepts bc I’m bored and like sharing
Also gonna start this off by saying LMAO not every chips ahoy! And Oreo flavor is gonna be related, mostly bc I refuse to make these family trees longer
Oreo Cherry Cola is a girlboss who has definitely snapped a couple of necks in the past. Oreo Kettle corn is her bodyguard/right hand man/boyfriend who acts all tough (and could kill you) but lets Cherry Cola handle herself
Chips Ahoy Root Beer Float is a cheerleader and is Sammie’s girlfriend, they’re your standard cheerleader/jock couple but I love them dearly either way
That strawberry donut Oreo flavor is gonna be this sweet shop owner who MAY be a single father if I can find a flavor that would logically be his offspring (he may also end up smooching Oreana’s uncle Melphis but we’ll have to see)
Oreo Lemon Twist (to my understanding it’s just lemon Oreos but with the regular black cookie instead of the golden) is Len’s best friend who helps babysit Melno
Nilla wafers WILL show up because they are a wonderful vanilla cookie.
The Red velvet Chips ahoy and Oreos are in love
I am realizing holy shit there are a lot of Oreo flavors
