introducing bluff - ace's first band!

the band formed in 2016, and split only a year later. despite their short-lived time together, bluff reached impressive success in the underground music scene.

i'll probably drop some lore bits about them here and there, so look out for that!!

Meet the Tesár Family

Rowan Tesár - The Father / Oldest Brother (To Exyr and Rogue)

Rowan was a vampire for a very long time. He wanted children but wasn't able to find the right woman (or man really) to create a family. So when he came to the States he decided to build an empire. A brand for himself. He opened a pub and a gentlemen's club right next to each other. His home turf. He takes meetings for his supply business (which is black market supplier) Which is how he got inside the pack business. In doing so Caleb helped him find vampire fledglings that haven't made the change so he could help them and help make the change.

Calix Tesár - The Eldest Son

Calix was actually born from a woman that Rowan knew. Rowan found him wondering the streets before his transition hit him in the middle of the alley. He was being beaten to death by some street kids. When Rowan stepped in and helped him with the change. Calix was always a strange kid, someone who fought first and asked question later. Calix took up hockey to help make sure he didn't take his anger out on anyone. He still does once in a while but he tends to shove someone into the side and beat them up on the rink.

Zephyr Tesár - The Middle Son

Zephyr didn't have a bad childhood. Well, he didn't have the best but he wasn't an angry child. His mother slept with a vampire and created him, a half-breed. His father, not the real one, but the one his mother was with, killed her and attempted to kill him but he was able to get away. Zephyr came to Caleb and then Caleb pushed him into Rowan. He tends to be very happy-go-lucky and always offers a smile to others. Some find him ditzy or stupid. His preferred sport is Football and he's good at it. He tends to be a go-getter on the field and always makes sure if someone is going after his team he is going after them.

Thane Tesár - The Youngest Son

Thane is the youngest man and the tallest of the bunch. He tends to be crafty but aloof just like Zephyr. He tends to not be forth coming about his past but he does enjoy telling people different stories. The only one who knows the real story is Rowan and him. So Rowan got him into basketball and he enjoy's doing it. He likes to run back and forth and playing on a team, he tried hockey but he's too tall for it so he just roots his brother on on the sidelines.

Eryx Tesár - The Crazy One / Middle Brother (To Rowan and Rogue)

Eryx is Rowan's middle brother. The crazy one acts as a bodyguard not only for the kids but for Rowan as well. Eryx has a particularly fondness for ripping people apart and showering himself in blood. So he tends to go overboard and thus needs someone to back him up and relax at least a little bit. Eryx loves both his brothers and his nephews but he also won't let anyone harm his family. So if you get on his bad side you are in a world of hurt.

Rogue Tesár - The Sane One / Youngest Brother (To Rowan and Eryx)

Rogue is the fun uncle. He tends to spend time doing a bodyguard duty for the kids because he's easily able to blend into the world of College than he is in the world of business. Rogue tends to make jokes about his name calling himself red or even Rogish man. Either way Rogue will protect his family with his life. He can be a little crazy but he calms himself with a sucker most of the time the sugar helps him for some reason.

Calix Animi… Calix Animi Everywhere

Totally not me finally talking about my Cuphead AU because I'm slowing forgetting about it due to queer puppets eating my brain.

(This will probably go until I feel like making another one or if someone has a question about something)

It's called the Son's of No Good Saints AU, and a lot of it is just what presive to be canon. The other half of this AU is just ridiculous headcanons that I thought of while listening to a Playlist I have that makes me think of them

One of the primary focuses of this AU is the powers that the three cups posses. (The weapons and charms they use in game) the weapons were first created as one force of power by Athena Goddess of War (and Ms. Chalice's mother). As the power was passed down to the mortal members of the Calix Animi it either began to separate (and become two different weapons) or weaken. The Calix Animi soldiers could only use 50% of their power before they would break

Somewhere down the line, Athena decides leave the Calix Animi (Athena was the leader at the time) but she didn't leave them totally lost. She had a child with a mortal man from a peasant family. Ms. Chalice's dad only had her for the first ten years of her life before the Calix Animi took her away from him to train her and show her how to use and control her powers. She would be thier new leader, and the new protector of Inkwell

From what I do remember, the Devil has had a bone to pick with every God and Goddess after he was thrown out of heaven. After building up an army of demons and what not, hell and Inkwell went to war.

Ms. Chalice losing her life marked the end of the three year war.

After Ms. Chalice was put to rest with the Calix Animi on the fourth Isle Inkwell went back to peace and content.

Everything but Chalice. Unlike her fellow soldiers, she wasn't content to dissappear, leading her to wander the planes of existence for many years. Both finding and losing herself. Over and over.

A few thousand years of aimlessly wandering later, Chalice found herself back on the fourth Isle in the year 1924.

There she made friends with a young Chef Saltbaker (who had just lost his daughter not a few months before). For the next six years they bonded over magic and food. In fact, Ms. Chalice was a big help to Saltbaker achieving his dream in being the best Chef in all the isles. In return, Chef Saltbaker decided to help Chalice achieve her dream of having a normal life.

It Took Saltbaker almost two years to make the wonder tart work the way Ms. Chalice wanted it to, the first wonder tart that he created turned Ms. Chalice into a five year old that Saltbaker would have to take with him on deliveries and out shopping. She would always put her hands in the ingredients while Saltbaker was trying to bake.

The second wonder tart turned Ms. Chalice into a bitter elderly woman. That would always lecture Saltbaker and everyone that came into the bakery always starting with "back in my day-" or "when I was your age-"

But as time passes, resources for food and magic became scarce and not easy to find, putting the wonder tart that would turn Chalice 14 years old on hold. So while Chef Saltbaker was just selling his goods to get by and keep the bakery open, Ms. Chalice took the liberty of going off to the main isles of Inkell to look for the magic that was needed to make the final wonder tart.

Going back to the mausoleum but getting trapped in the process, she ended up staying in the Keeper Urn for months until getting released by Cuphead and Mugman

Kajj walked silently beside the Speaker’s procession, one hand lingering upon the trolley that carried the body down the hall, wheels clacking rhythmically against the tiles as they moved. Grim faces ringed the trolly, familiar and clad in the traditional Motherguard orange -- Members of the Speaker’s warren, along with Mechanic Wess and Treasurer Kahna. A sizable cohort and yet… their numbers were fewer than what they should have been. Thinner. He could see the mental calculus as they all looked at one another over their silent charge, could see the recognition in their eyes. The truth that none of them were willing to say.

A pair of Caretakers were waiting for them at the end of the hall, white robes pristine and crisp, arms out and palms up in supplication and welcome as they prepared to accept their charge. Kajj let his gaze linger on the figure on the right… he recognized this one. The Hatchmaster himself, Elder Hiir. An honor.

A hollow honor, but an honor all the same.

The Motherguard fanned out as the Caretakers took control of the trolley, the quiet hum of sorrow rising up from their chests, the Motherguard’s voices joining in with theirs. Kajj closed his burning eyes as he added his own song to the chorus, his rich baritone clear above the others as the Caretakers rolled the Speaker towards the middle of the room, beneath a gleaming silver machine that hung from the ceiling. It was richly decorated and engraved, glittering with jewels that reflected a rainbow of dancing lights throughout the chamber but Kajj still saw it for what it was -- the true final death, waiting for every vincam. The Uploader. The Way Home.

~Dearest hatch-mate, we now bring you to rest~ the chorus sang, watching as the Caretakers reached for the silver machine, pulling it down towards the trolley with a quiet click. ~We bring you here, to this place of sweet endings.~

Kajj forced his eyes to open, forced himself to watch as the Caretakers pulled back the Speaker’s orange silk shroud, revealing the face of his friend, pale and still.

Calix.

He spoke the name within his mind, that private bit of self the Speaker had shared with him so many years ago. Calix, lover of animals, lover of tea. Calix, with eyes as blue as yaila flowers, chitin a dusky sage green. Calix…

~Hatch-mate, you have traveled far, now you are returning. Home’s arms are open wide, warm and safe and yearning.~

The Caretakers rolled the speaker gently onto her side, freeing her cable from its hidden port on the back of her head. Elder Hiir hooked her into the machine and then lowered it fully down from the ceiling, the Speaker’s face and torso disappearing beneath a shroud of jeweled silver.

Kajj slipped one hand into his robe’s pocket, his fingers finding the small carved figure that rested there. Once, it had rested inside of Calix’s quarters.

~Hatch-mate, though you leave us now, your memory remains. Your echo joins our endless song, to sing forevermore.~

The song of the chorus rose in volume as the Uploader began to whirr, Calix’s memories, her data, her very echo copied from within her implant to be sent down to Home’s databases and added to the Collective. Eternal life, in its own way. There were even those who said that the echos had made themselves a sort of simulation there, where they lived a kind of second life.

Kajj could never quite bring himself to believe that. Death was… death. He had seen a lot of it, more and more with each passing year. His enemies, his acquaintances… his friends.

His family.

Calix, of the warm heart. Calix, of the easy laugh. Calix, the never ending stream of facts and figures, always with a relevant piece of trivia to share.

~Hatch-mate, fare well, until we meet again. Tell the others we love them. Tell the others, we are joining them soon!~

It should have been me, Kajj thought to himself as the Uploader clicked once again, the lights on the machines dimming. He was supposed to protect her. He was the head Guard now, since the passing of his clutchmate, and it was his duty to ensure the safety of all the colony… and the Motherguard in particular.

His fist tightened around the carved figurine, his throat burning as he stared at the machine.

He… had been sleeping when Calix had fallen. Sleeping when the research station was attacked. Why hadn’t he insisted on going with her? Why had he allowed her to go alone?

The mourning song faded, Kajj’s own sputtering out with it, leaving his chest feeling numb and empty as the room fell to silence, as the Speaker’s data left the body behind and left them with just a shell upon the trolley.

The Speaker was gone.

Calix was gone.

…and it should have been him, instead.

YIPPEE ok......making a list cuz i like making lists (and it's easier to keep track of my number of facts)

under the cut because dear god there's so many words

ace has this odd habit where whenever they're leaving people they dislike they. chop off her hair in the bathroom and leave the hair and never come back. ok so for context ace is a big fan of the "if it sucks hit the bricks" mentality BUT they tend to have a huge breakdown before hitting Said Bricks. in the process of the huge breakdown, she usually finds her way to the bathroom with a pair of craft scissors or a hair trimmer and just. goes at it. and leaves all the little hairs all over and disappears forever. some examples are leaving home after graduation or the infamous last bluff concert

pixie and ace met in high school! ace had some other friends then (like matt, ex-drummer of bluff, who now fronts a band called plastic woman!!), but pixie had a bit of a hard time adjusting. they met because they were both involved in theater at the time and they became SUPER close. pixie was a grade level below ace, so they lost touch when ace graduated, but they met again when pixie found herself at a giveafux gig (ace's other band before cyberdevils - shags was there too!) after breaking up with her shitty boyfriend (the guy who was mentioned in that one really sad comic i made a while ago with pixie on the phone with her mom)

pixie's middle name is martina, which is also the name of her grandmother on her mom's side! and her dad was named after his father (julian pereira. that makes pixie's dad a junior)

shags' real name is sophie triggs. shags was a nickname given to her by an old friend (more on said friend later)

ace and shags met at a club. i think about this a lot and i am going to expand on it one day but let me tell you i think about it a lot. before they met shags had moved to america to go to hollywood and try to become a movie star. she failed and started spending a LOT of time at bars and clubs and in other people's rooms. it made her feel like shit but she convinced herself she'd never be anything. and ace on the other hand had only just moved out of her aunts' house after staying there for a few months following the big public breakdown/bluff breakup. they hadn't really been out much and were trying to start a new chapter and all that. then the two met

all three of the band members are very much queer hehe

shags had a classic case of adolescent codependent homoerotic situationship. it was with a girl named cassie and the two were inseparable. they both had shitty parents, so they relied on each other a lot and spent a lot of time sneaking out late at night to go smoke in the park on rooftops. cassie died when she and shags were both fourteen and shags wasn't and never will be more devastated by probably anything else. on a lighter note cassie gave shags her nickname when they were looking through a book about birds and couldn't stop laughing at the shag. the nickname stuck among everyone as shags started sleeping around with people a lot once cassie died

since we're discussing names a whole lot - pixie's younger brother cosmo chose his name because he's always been super obsessed with space :)

ace will occasionally refer to shags as shagatha

pixie loves getting acrylic nails and shags does it fairly often too. however they both always seem to have two missing. hmmmm. (for different reasons)

ace taught pixie to play guitar!! :)

shags canonically sounds like murdoc niccals. and pixie sounds a bit like poppy and i have no idea whose voice ace's is similar to

when i first drew them pixie and shags were girlfriends. but i hadn't given them any background or anything yet and when i decided to add ace into the mix (since they were a slightly older character who looked like she could be friends with pixie + shags) and i decided on the three being a band and fleshing them out more i decided no. however ace and shags did date and idk about you but i think ace n pixie might have a lil something going on hmmm (i say this like they aren't MY ocs. shush)

last fact! uhh the band's living situation is very complicated. do they live together in a big house? do two share an apartment while the other lives separately? do they all have their own apartments? who's to say. certainly not me i didn't make these guys up i don't know what you're talking about
