ok Iâm just gonna say this but full stop if you think that RWBY âfell offâ or peaked in the first 3 volumes then Iâm sorry but you need to rewatch the series because i know for a fact itâs the nostalgia talking. Volumes 1-2 and like half of 3 are just. Not that good.
#Like Iâm sorry guys i get it. I get wanting to go back to when the show was simpler but like#Itâs kinda ass#Itâs very charming and thereâs a very good homegrown DIY energy to it#And itâs definitely impressive for the time but#You cannot look me in the eyes and say that volume 2 was where rwby peaked#Or that the writing âgot badâ#Motherfucker RWBYâs upward swing in quality is so dramatic itâs practically a fucking shoryuken#Thereâs like⊠actual animation and good writing now#The only thing that I could POSSIBLY say that got worse overtime was the fights#And thatâs because Monty Oum was a literal choreography genius dude like no shit theyâre not gonna be able to replicate that#(And frankly starting in Volume 6 the fights are pretty gas too)#(Theyâre just a very different style that focuses less on actual choreography and more on dynamic camera movements)#(Oh yeah and also. Having actual plot relevance and stakes)#(That too)#Anyways sorry for the mini rant Iâve been rewatching RWBY with my sister and Iâve been thinking about this

how Nico functions narratively as a character is always extremely funny to me because he has like, exactly 3 modes: exposition, damsel, and dues ex machina.
Exposition Mode is usually whenever Annabeth (#1 designated exposition character. #2 is Grover or insert mythological figure of the hour here. #3 is Nico) or someone else isn't around to exposition for the present cast. He has an excuse to somehow randomly know everything and everyone, no matter what, especially if it's relevant to the plot. He'll randomly develop new skills or personal arcs purely as an excuse to put him in situations where he can exposition, such as him being able to gain insight into the future/prophecies via ghosts (which is a thing in Greek mythology, but still). This is actually why it's extremely difficult for him to function as a POV character in a stand-alone story or first book of a series, because the way Riordanverse functions, the POV almost always only has as much information as the audience going into things and a secondary character explains information to them as they go along, unless it's later on into a series and it makes sense for the characters and/or audience to know that already. That's why Nico doesn't function well as a POV for TSATS but Will would work fine, because Nico's designated narrative role is Knowing Everything/Everyone, Somehow (particularly relating to the Underworld).
Damsel: he just gets kidnapped a ridiculous amount of times. Also that plus his penchant for passing out means there is ample opportunity for scenarios where Nico, despite being extremely powerful, needs to be rescued. Pairing this with how he's always off doing absolutely anything, absolutely anywhere, and somehow knows everybody, he's a perfect means to push the plot forward with an easy "oh no we need to rescue/protect Nico for the millionth time" side-quest or addition to stakes at hand. Or, similarly, if you need to take Nico out of the equation for a bit because he's too powerful and would fix it immediately: oops he passed out/needs to be protected/is kidnapped/etc.
And then as mentioned before - Deus ex machina, kinda literally. Nico is extremely overpowered for a reason; Because he's the catch-all solution to every problem. Just throw Nico at it. We can BS a new epic power for him that vaguely makes sense and yeah he's just that powerful and will pass out because of it probably. Yeah sure he can rip people's souls out and instakill things. Yeah he can teleport anything anywhere under essentially any circumstances. He'll just be a little sleepy. A lil eepy. He needs to take a lil nap. It's fine.
Basically. Solution to literally every situation in the Riordanverse: Throw Nico at it. Just throw Nico at it. It'll make sense. It'll work. Unless he's the primary POV in a stand-alone novel, short story, or first book in a series. Then it won't make any sense because you suddenly have to backtrack like 2/3 of Nico's entire narrative functions and suddenly he is Only A Damsel.
#pjo#riordanverse#nico di angelo#analysis#draft clear-out#i know i've posted stuff on this topic before but i cant find the post and i think it was tangentially added on to a different rant#but while i'm clearing things out i might as well post this#i always find it a fun topic and break of Nico's functions within the narrative#long post //#< long-ish

The reason I think Alastor should be in the wrong(or at least mostly in the wrong) in his and Vox's falling out is that I don't think their relationship would be worth exploring as deeply as it sounds like it will be next season if Vox was the primary reason they started fighting, because it would do NOTHING for Alastor's arc.
Like- okay, Alastor's arc is very clearly going to be about learning that trusting people is Okay and not a sign of weakness, right? He's literally the only character in the show that is very clearly about the power of friendship who refuses to accept any sort of help, like even the VILLAINS are constantly hyping eachother up! If they fell apart because of something Vox did, and their relationship is going to be super important next season, wouldn't that not really do anything for Alastor's arc? Unless Vox pulling some weird shit is the ROOT CAUSE of Alastor's trust issues, but, given what we know about his past and how his ego seems to be the biggest contributor to said issues, I don't think it is. Alastor would HAVE to have contributed SIGNIFICANTLY to their falling out if their relationship is going to mean anything to his arc, because otherwise it just feels more like a weird aside then anything else? Like "oh yeah we used to be friends but then he did some weird shit and now we're not friends anymore". It adds nothing. There's nothing emotional for Alastor to confront in this scenario.
Which makes for a more interesting story, the relationship between the mc and someone from their past who, while they miss, isn't the kind of person they want to be around anymore so they don't really feel bad about cutting them off who ALSO doesn't pose any real Active Threat to the mc, or the mcs relationship with someone who they respected a lot but cut off because they felt the two of them were getting too close and we can't have THAT, now can we? It's the second one. It's the second one because the second one HAS HIGHER STAKES! The first one makes for a good one episode plotline, but for a season long arc? Takes where Vox is in the wrong actually make VOX a more interesting character to follow then Alastor, because that makes HIM the only one with an actual emotional stake in the conflict. But this isn't Vox's story. It's Alastor's story. Alastor is the main character. Which means, for their relationship to provide anything of value to the plot, Alastor needs to have emotional stakes in the situation too. The best villains are the ones that force your characters to grow and become better people(unless you're doing a silly little monster of the week type of show but THAT'S NOT WHAT HAZBIN IS-), and the only way Vox being the main antagonist next season is gonna cause any kind of growth is if Alastor is being forced to reconcile with his past.
Anyways uh, yeah that's it. I could do a tangent about how their relationship lowkey parallels Fizz & BlitzĂž(a comparison I made in this post but didn't actually go into depth on bcuz it wasn't relevant to the post beyond supporting my argument + didn't have much backing at the time), but I do NOT have the brain power to go in-depth comparing and contrasting that stuff rn, bcuz, despite the similarities, whatever the fuck Vox & Al have going on seems to be a LOT more Complicated and Sad then an accident and some dad-induced miscommunication. So I'm just gonna leave it at that :)
#hazbin hotel#hazbin alastor#hazbin hotel alastor#alastor hazbin hotel#hazbin vox#hazbin hotel vox#vox hazbin hotel#staticradio#radiostatic#alastor x vox#not rlly ship but Im not actively shitting on the pairing so I might as well tag the ship lol#late night ramblings#gal overanalyzes random shit

Continuing my D&D mood lately, I finally got around to watching the D&D movie, Honor Among Thieves. I wasn't especially hyped for this film, but was curious after reviews turned out surprisingly positive. Well I'm happy to have watched it, because while it wasn't revolutionary film by any means, it was a really fun romp and adventure from beginning to end.
Though admittedly I do know SOME of the Forgotten Realms universe, I applaud Honor Among Thieves for having strong and followable world building. For as much wild shit happens in this movie, it's commendable how much of it manages to feel consistent and understandable, especially with regards to magic and the few factions relevant to the plot. Just enough is explained to the audience without overloading them or becoming a distraction, it's a very fluid film that doesn't get slowed down by its own context.
I really loved the action sequences, especially when magic gets involved. Seeing two spellcasters go at it felt exciting, it really captured the feeling of two incredible powerful but squishy forces throwing powerful magics at each other. The druid wild shape sequences were really lively too, I loved that scene from when she spies on Forge and Sofina and has to escape the city by transforming into all forms of animals -- feels like you could hear the DM asking for a long list of skill checks. The non-magical action bits were also serviceable with fun choreography, but I really wished the two elements had blended together better. One of my biggest complaints is that there's so little teamwork between the party members, most of them just take turns 1v1ing an enemy if they don't just handle a situation by themselves. I would have loved to see more combinations; the final fight comes close, but I would have preferred another action scene elsewhere that felt more like one party versus another party. I guess you could also say the combat doesn't really "feel" like normal D&D, but as a film adaptation, it's fun.
Oh of course I loved Holga pretty much from the start. All of the characters were decently charming, but god is Holga good. I guess I just wish her character arc was a little more involved, but there's already a lot the movie is trying to fit in.
That does remind me though that an unfortunate aspect of the story is that so, so much of the hero's scheming relies on one magical item -- an item that comes up super conveniently, and then proceeds to carry most of the sequences later on. I admit it's a little cute how they end up getting the Hither-Tither staff, how Holga took it a long time ago thinking it was a walking stick...... but yeah that's mighty convenient for the exact situation they end up in. It wouldn't be so bad if that one staff wasn't so critical for almost every other obstacle the heroes face.
I guess lastly there's the comedy of the film, which was passable overall. Some gags were not that funny, but it's made-up for with other jokes that are still making me grin half a day later. Some of the humor is especially D&D-y, and with the right deliveries, it really works out. I like when the party members bicker with each other exactly like actual D&D groups, with characters suggesting dumb plans, asking why they can't just "magic" a solution, or how some spells/effects are represented. There's a little bit of that "well THAT just happened" snark, but not enough to be too annoying.
A movie like this could have been soooo much worse, so the fact it was genuinely entertaining is an achievement I think. Lovable characters with classic dynamics, exciting plot twists with escalating stakes, and generally just a well-paced story that constantly keeps you enthralled with adventure. It's definitely succeeded in making me even more interested in the Forgotten Realms lore, so good job in that department.

Yup, Sure Was a Finale
I had an epiphany. The reason why I never re-watched the final two parts of Sozinâs Comet even though Iâve popped in episodes at random many times over the years isnât that I canât bear the sadness of seeing one of the best, most engaging narratives out there come to an end.
Itâs simply that the finale isnât all that good.
Some honorable mentions of what was enjoyable.
(+) This
Just this.
(+) The Church of Zutara has another convert
âAre you sure they donât get together?â Hubster, 2020
(+) The tragedy of Azula
And the fact that itâs acknowledged as such. I hope Zuko will do his best to get her help and have a relationship with herâŠ
(+) Sokka being a big bro
And the whole airship sequence in general. Itâs wonderfully paced and plotted, with moments of humor, real stakes, Toph being both badass and a scared crying kid, Sokka strategizing and protecting, Suki saving the day, and non-benders being instrumental in thwarting the bad guy firebenderâs plans. Would be shame if Bryke never portrayed them this capable ever againâŠ
And now for the main course.
(-) Blink and its over
The wrap-up feels too quick (hashtag Needs More ROtK-style False Endings). A part of this is due to how fast the story goes from the thick of the action to hastily tying up a bunch of loose ends, but the larger issue is how Book 3âs uneven pacing comes home to roost. After spending half a season on filler episodes that at best subtly flesh out established characters while dancing around a huge lionturtle-shaped hole, and at worst contradict the theme of âno one is born badâ with âyouâre a hot mess because your great-grandfathers didnât get along too wellâ, the frantic âgo go goâ rush of the second half screeches to a halt with âthey won and everyone was happy because now the right people have power and it will be all good from now on yup nothing more to deal with baiiiiiâ.
Yes, I know, itâs a kidsâ show. But goddamn, this particular kidsâ show has proven so many times it can do better than the expected tropiness. Showing the characters in their roles as builders of a new world was the least that could have been done.
Oh well!
(-) Ursa
Weâll never know. There will never be a story that delves into this. Yup. Shall forever remain but an intriguing mystery. Is good, though. Mystery is better than a story where Ursa shares her sonâs penchant for forgetfulness. Imagine how embarrassing that would be. Speaking of whichâŠ
(-) What does Mai see in this jerkbender?
Look, I like to harp a lot on the mess of inconsistent writing thatâs Mai but letâs unpack this scene from her perspective, shall we?
Zuko forgot about her! It totally slipped his mind that the one person who prioritized the safety of his dumb ass was rotting in the worst prison in the Fire Nationâbecause of him! And she was rotting there long enough after the final Agni Kai for the news of Zukoâs upcoming coronation to spread and her uncle to feel sufficiently secure to release her. But then the coronation scene is attended by every single member of Gaang & Friends that was imprisoned?
So what this tells me is that either a) the invasion force had the ability to break themselves out the whole time and for some reason decided not to exercise it until after the war was over, b) Zuko forgot about them as well and no one thought to remind him there were prisons full of POWs until Mai arrived, or, and thatâs even better, c) Zuko took care to free every single resistance fighter while making sure Mai would be the one to stay behind bars.
Never thought Iâd say this but Mai? Honey? You deserve so much better.
(-) âWhat does Katara want?â
Asked no one in the writersâ room ever, apparently.
This is not so much anti Cataang as anti romance stories that pay attention to the needs, opinions, and wants of only one partner in general. Over the previous 60 episodes, Katara actively expressed romantic interest in Aang exactly, wait for it,
Once.
And it got retconned out of relevance by the following two interactions where the possibility of a romantic relationship came up, making the Headband dance pretty easy to reclassify as just one of those examples where Aang âteachesâ Katara to have fun (as if one of the main obstacles to her having fun wasnât him constantly fooling around and offloading his duties). And because the writers not only didnât succeed in portraying Kataraâs internal state of mind, but also failed to root her reluctance to pursue a relationship in outside circumstances that could change, her sudden state of unconfused once Aang steps into the spotlight has a single canonical explanation that as much as approaches coherency.
The fact is, though, that trying to interpret canon Cataang from a Watsonian perspective is an exercise in foolishness. Because there is no Watsonian justification for the ship and never has been. Bryke simply conceived of Katara as nothing but a tropey prize for Aang, never saw her as anything beyond that, and were perfectly happy to go on and immortalize her as a passive broodmare for the rest of her life.
And I fully intend to die mad about it.
(-) Iroh dips
OK, itâs been long apparent that the show doesnât intend to do anything about Irohâs complicity in AzulOzaiâs regime in any meaningful way, and that his sole motivation for doing anything whatsoever is Zuko whom he views as a replacement son which is supposed to be good for some reason. But the finale has him abandon even that, and instead turns him full-on YOLO, idgaf anymore. It really throws Irohâs supposed love for Zuko into doubt when his last act in the entire show is to take a half-educated 16-year old with no political savvy or an heir to secure a dynastic continuity and plomp him on the throne of a war-mongering imperialist regime where the entirety of the militarist and ruling class is guaranteed to fight him tooth and nail for power.
(I sure hope Maiâs ready to start popping out babies by tea-time otherwise the whole country is fukd in about a week)
Christ, how hard would it be to have Iroh keep the throne warm for a few years while Zuko is getting ready to succeed him? Not only would it make the whole FN reformation bit quite likelier to occur, it would require Irohâs hedonistic ass to actually sacrifice something for once. And not having Zuko ascend to power, instead spending some time bettering and educating himself first, would be a wonderful message that no matter what you endured and overcame, you never stop growing. A kidsâ show, remember?
(-) The conquering of Ba Sing Se
Gee, I feel so blessed to have my attention diverted from battlefields which actually matter to an old dude vanity project I would have been perfectly happy to assume resolved itself off-screen.
The White Lotus in general just bugs me. I was fine with the individual characters and their overall passivity when they were portrayed as lone dissenters living under circumstances where it wasnât really possible for any single person to mount a meaningful resistance. But as members of a far-reaching shadowy organization thatâs left the real fight to a bunch of kids for 59 episodes straight and didnât turn up until a perfect opportunity presented itself to take control of the largest city in the world and bask in the spotlight?
Yeah, no.
Similarly to the lionturtle-ex-machina, the White Lotus represents a huge missed opportunity for a season-long storytelling. Hereâs just a brief list of what they could have been doing throughout Book 3:
orchestrating a Fire Nation uprising;
gathering those directly persecuted by AzulOzaiâs regime to help Zuko keep his hold on power once heâs crowned;
establishing themselves as a viable alternative to Ozai;
sabotaging Fire Nationâs war efforts from the inside;
countering Fire Nation propaganda (Asha Greyjoyâs pinecones, anyone?);
running a supply network to alleviate the suffering of Earth Kingdom citizens.
Instead, they sit on their asses until the time comes to claim personal glory.
You know what, good on Bryke for making me conclude that in comparison, the Freedom Fighters were perfectly unproblematic, actually.
(-) Fire Lord Dead-by-Dawn
Yes, a kidsâ show, I know! But ffs, this is the same kidsâ show that came up with Long Feng and portrayed courtly intrigue, kingly puppets, secret police, spy networks, and information wars. Was it really too much of me to expect something other than âenlightened despot solves everythingâ? Especially if said enlightened despot has persisting anger issues, no personal support system, no base of followers, and no political experience whatsoever?
If Zukoâs actually serious about regaining the Fire Nationâs honor (i.e. by dismantling the countryâs military machine, decolonizing the Earth Kingdom, paying reparations to everyone and their lemur, and funding any and all cultural restoration projects Aang and the SWT come up with), then there is no way, no way in the universe that he doesnât face a civil war, deposing, and execution within a month.
One reason why his future as a Fire Lord seems rather bleak is that littleâs been shown about the actual subjects of AzulOzaiâs regime. While we get a vague reassurance that âno Toph, theyâre not born badâ (le shockings), they largely remain a voiceless uniform mass of brainwashed clapping seals. What is their view on the Fire Nationâs crimes? Do they associate their condition with their countryâs war-mongering? How will they react when Zuko starts dismantling the country piece by piece to rebuild it, bringing it to economic ruin? What will they do when noble Ozai loyalists come out of the woodwork and begin rounding them up under the banner of âMake the Fire Nation Great Again?â
I have no idea, and Zuko doesnât either because heâs unironically more qualified to rule the Earth Kingdom than his own people.
You know what would have been better? Fire Lord Iroh, White Lotus pulling the strings to maintain the regime, and Crown Prince/Peopleâs Champion Zuko travelling the Fire Nation with Aang and an army of tutors to promote the new boss, only to realize that absolute monarchy is kinda crap for the people heâs one day supposed to rule and gaining their support by ceding some power to them.
Iâd laser holes into my TV due to how much Iâd enjoy watching that.
(-) All hail Avatar Rock

Literally and metaphorically. Aang doesnât sacrifice anything, gets everything, and the clever solution of going about getting said everything is handed to him on a silver platter, requiring no active participation on his part whatsoever.
He doesnât work to unblock his chakras, spiritually or physically.
He only speaks to his past lives to get a pat on the back and a bow-tied solution he could mindlessly follow.
Energy-bending doesnât require any sacrifice from him, leaves no lasting marks, and only serves for the narrative to praise him as the rare individual thatâs unbendable and thus so very very special.
The most infuriating thing is, however, that Aang is clearly shown as being able to beat Ozai without either the Avatar state, or energy-bending.
And he chooses not to. From this moment on, Aang no longer fights to save the world. He fights to preserve his beliefs, going directly against the instructions of his past lives and effectively reneging on his duties as the Avatar.
Again.
Itâs not like you canât portray Aangâs faithfulness to his spiritual beliefs as the key to beating Ozai and saving the world. But thatâs not what the show did. There is no link between Aang sparing Ozai and securing a better future, quite to the contraryâOzaiâs survival ends up being a massive problem for the continuation of Zukoâs rule, and consequently a threat to the world at large. His survival benefits Aang and no one else.
Aangâs spiritual purity and his status as a savior of the world are allowed to coexist only due to a deliberate stroke of a writerâs pen.
And I hate it.
Welp, nothing to do about it now except to bury myself up to my tits in fix-it fics I guess.

Hi!! Itâs me again asking about the new chapter. Literally every other page had me like đł from either the gayness or just the plot points like wtf. I complained last time about being confused from lack of info and now Iâm confused from too much info but very excited to see where this goes lmaoo
I think the illusion part was a fun lil twist. Sometimes it can be annoying when a high stakes situation turns out to be fake all along, but the way it was done sorta short kept things interesting and added to Rigrâs sly behavior. Also just Rigr bantering with Urd by being oddly sweet and saying how he was planning to come back and work together was such an intriguing 180 flip. Urd already considering the offer & being on the same page with the hostages was kinda gold. I feel like heâs already sorta accepting his fate, Iâd honestly be surprised if he doesnât decide to team up with Rigr next chp.
And then on top of all ~that~ the stuff about all versions of Yu being made for Mika?! We get it, theyâve been destined to each other for thousands of years, theyâre soulmates, itâs gay đ I havenât been super onboard with Mika becoming Yuâs demon bc I want him to stay himself & have a role on his own, but now Iâm more excited for how that works/messes with the Firstâs plan.
Oh, and I enjoyed seeing Byakkomaru + Raimeiki despite being worried for Shinya + Kureto. I feel like all the demons/progenitors relationships to the First get more complicated each chapter and I would really like a better breakdown on where loyalties lie at this point lol
Hello once again anon! I was wondering if you'd crop up!
Ho boy. This chapter. A lot happened. I can see why you're confused. While this chapter did give us quite a bit of information, we can still only speculate as to how everything fits together. There's really no right or wrong right now. I have a feeling that starting next chapter, we'll finally be able to start fitting things together. If not then we'll at least be getting back into some action I imagine. It'll be nice after the last handful of chapters.
In that same vein, I agree with what you said about the illusion. It was fun to get some action even if it did end up being fake, but not only did this serve as some fun, it developed Ky Luc and Lest Karr as well as what you said about Rigr. While we've seen Ky Luc fight before, we didn't really see him with his back against the wall. As Guren and Shinya put it:

(They tied as Guren said shortly before this but this is funnier)
It was nice to see how Ky Luc fights in a tough situation. It speaks to his character quite a bit. On top of that, there's Rigr's comment about Ky Luc being strong enough to kill a 3rd Progenitor. I'm sure that will be relevant later, possibly even explained, but likely not for a while. Not only that, but, and correct me if I'm wrong, we haven't seen Lest Karr fight before. This was a cool insight into what his battle presence is like. I imagine that both of these things will come into play sometime later. Plus! It's like Rigr said:

At the very least it tells us Ky and Lest will side with whoever Urd does.
I ish made a post addressing Urd and Rigr, but god, yeah. These bitches gay, Rigr especially. Good for them. It makes me think that Rigr always intended to return to Urd's side (in a gay way or not). After all, as he said, this is all according to plan apparently.
It's interesting to think about, but I think Urd is as much a pawn in this game as the likes of Guren. He has his own view/side to things, but he's going to get swept up in other people's messes/plans whether he wants to or not. Given his history with Rigr and it being unlikely (at the moment) that Rigr will betray him again, I imagine Urd and Rigr will be on the same side going forward? Allegiances change like the weather though so who knows. This is just the feeling I get at this point in time, and you alluded to it too.
I'm left a little unsure about how to feel about the whole Yu and Mika situation. None of what was shown really comes as a surprise. The eye being a doorway to the past was something I didn't expect, neither was The First being able to affect that vision, but pretty much everything else was. We'd already been basically told that Yus were somehow grown/created, so now we just finally get to see what the exact method is. Can't say I understand how that works, but there you go. It wasn't much of an explanation, but it's something I guess.
Mika becoming Yu's demon/weapon also doesn't come as a large surprise. Ever since he "died" back in chapter 90 (91?), this is pretty much what I expected. I'm not even that surprised that it was something that Mika ultimately chose. It's not quite something I would have speculated back when Mika first died, but after we started getting chapters that showed off demon Mika, it was something I suspected might happen. And maybe it's just me, but I don't think Mika will become any less important now that he's Yu's weapon. I wouldn't be surprised if he took a role similar to Mahiru going forward. Mahiru is one of Guren's demons, but she's still her own character and can sorta do her own thing. I don't see why Mika couldn't be the same, even if their situations are a bit different.
SHINYA!!! I, like many others, have been waiting for this moment. Never would have guessed that he ended up getting captured, but what surprises me more is that Kureto was also captured. Last we saw he was directing troops. It seemed like things were going well for him. I wonder what happened that resulted in both of them getting captured. Is the rest of Guren squad okay? Who's running the Imperial Demon army now? I hope it's not Seishiro. Hey, maybe that's what happened to Narumi. He's running the army now :) In all seriousness though, if Guren squad is okay, I could actually see them running the army, but again I digress.
I made a post talking about what I think will happen to Shinya and Kureto (and by extension, Byakkomaru and Reimeiki) here. While I too am worried about them, I think that they'll be okay. If Rigr or Urd wanted to kill them, they probably would have done it by now. That's not to say that they couldn't be harmed though. I'm just hopeful that being hostages means that they'll stay alive.
Maybe it's a weird thing to say, but because of Guren's attachment to Shinya, I'd actually say that it's likely that Shinya has some thick plot armor in this instance. I'm confident that Shinya will remain alive at least until Guren is around him again. As for Kureto... well. I don't think there's as much plot armor for him. Again I think he'll be okay? He's the representative of normal humanity in all this and there's no good replacement for him (there's lit no other character that cares about humanity as a whole), so I think he'll stay alive for at least a little while longer.
And that pretty much sums up my thoughts! Sorry this got long, but as I said at the start, a lot happened. There was a lot to analyze and process. Thanks again for the ask! I hope you enjoyed hearing my thoughts.

Adrien, the true main character of Miraculous Ladybug. (And the reasons why this show doesn't work anymore).
Yes, I'm going to write a whole dissertation on this and no one is going to stop me. No, I don't like Marinette, but not because she's a creepy and annoying character, but because she's bland a boring. Yes, I'll elaborate on that, but firstly lest talk about what makes a good protagonist!
1.They have a problem that needs solving. What does this mean? That your protagonist needs to have some sort of conflict going on, it can be internal or external, but it has to matter to them and it has to drive them to act. It has to be personal. The protagonist has to be central to the story and to the conflict, it has to revolve around them.
2.A protagonist needs to take action. This means that they move the plot forward, because the conflict of the story is about them so every decision they make and every action they take ends up affecting the whole course of things.
3.A protagonists needs to have reasons to take action. This is and point two come hand in hand. The conflict needs to be of importance to the protagonist so they can have believable reasons to take action.
4.The protagonist has something to lose. If things go wrong, or even if they go well, something has to be a stake. That little thing that's a stake has to be the motivation, the reason, to take action. It has to be important enough to force the protagonist to take risks that otherwise they wouldn't even consider, because they can't afford to lose that something.
5.The protagonist has something to gain. Again we have things a stake here. If they do the things right they'll get a reward, something to look forward to. Without something to gain for the protagonist, why even bother to try, right?
6.A good protagonist has the capacity to change. A MC needs to learn along the way, they need to grow and show development. They need to learn from their experiences, otherwise they'll be making the same mistakes over and over again and that's not engaging.
7.A good protagonist has to have compelling personality traits and flaws. The MC needs to have something that makes the audience loves them, but also a trait that needs improvement because otherwise they wouldn't have the capacity to change.
8.A good protagonist has a secret and a very good reason to keep that secret.
9.A good protagonist has a good antagonist. The villain has to be of importance to the protagonist. Why are they enemies? Why the MC needs to stop the villain? Why does it matter?
10.A good protagonist knows that they want and makes the story happen.
And based on those characteristics we can start crafting our MC, that one person that we will have to follow throughout the whole story, the character we have to root for and relate to. The one who makes us care about the events of the story. And once we have crafted our main character we start crafting our story around them, usually following the three art structure or the hero's journey structure. Since this is a superheros show, it makes more sense to use the hero's journey, right? So let's write down this structure following both Adrien and Marinette's stories.
Marinette.
âThe ordinary world: This is the original world of the hero, which "suffers from a symbolic deficiency." The hero is lacking something, or something is taken from them.
We get to experience Marinette ordinary world the first episode. We watch her interact with her parents, parents that absolutely adore her and support her on everything. We learn her family has a bakery shop and that it's the best of Paris. She isn't lacking anything, nothing has been taken from her. Her life is perfect and normal. She has a best friend, she has a wonderful part time job as a babysitter for a famous reporter, she has loving parents and goes to a good school. She lives good and nothing of that is in danger. She doesn't lack anything. She is presented as this perfect girl with an amazing life. A little bit silly, yes, but that's actually a good trait because isn't she adorable? Oh, she's lacking a love life I guess.
âThe call to adventure: The hero is given a challenge, problem, or adventure. Often it appears as a blunder, or chance. This stage establishes the goal of the hero.
Marinette gets the chance to become Ladybug. Why her? Because she was a nice citizen that helped an old man and that's enough. Why does it matter if she becomes a superhero? Is that a blunder or a chance? Why? We already established that a good protagonist needs to have a conflict to solve, and usually the call to adventure is the first step the MC takes to solve that problem. Does the MC wants to become rich to help their poor family? Well, their call to adventure, the inciting incident, would be getting the opportunity to participate in a poker tournament where the winner gets 20M dollars. That is their call to adventure. But what's Marinette's call to adventure? In the ordinary world we learned that she isn't lacking anything, that nothing was taken from her. Refusing to become Ladybug wouldn't have changed anything for her. Yeah, she is a nice person and wanted to fight crime because she's that noble, but that's hardly personal. It doesn't have weight and the audience won't care.
âTHE REFUSAL OF THE CALL: The (often) reluctant hero has to be set along the correct path. They must weigh the consequences and be excited by a stronger motivation to proceed further.
Well, she had a moment of doubt before accepting to become Ladybug, but I didn't see the strong motivation that made her to proceed further. Remember that the motivation has to be personal and it has to matter. If it doesn't matter to the MC then it'll matter less for the audience.
âMEETING WITH THE MENTOR: The hero encounters a wise figure who prepares them for the journey. This figure (or item) gives advice, guidance, or an item, but cannot go with the hero.
Nothing to add here because it's pretty obvious that the mentor is that old man (forgot his name) and the item she gets is Tikki.
âCROSSING THE THRESHOLD: The hero has committed to his task, and enters the special world. Often he is met by a threshold guardian.
Nothing to add here either. Crossing the threshold for Marinette was turning into Ladybug for the first time and deciding it's what she wanted to do. Although her reasond to want it to do it are none existent.
âTESTS, ALLIES, AND ENEMIES: In the special world, the hero learns the new rules by meeting people and obtaining new information. There is often a "local watering hole" component. This is where the true characteristics of the hero are revealed.
She meets Chat Noir, she also learns about her enemy Hawk Moth, we see her making new friends and frenemies and what not. The thing is nothing of that feels important because she doesn't have a reason to be doing all that. There's no inner conflict, no goal other than to chase after Adrien. Yes, little problems raise for here here and there, but are not relevant to the big scheme of things. Her goals are momentary and achieved by the end of each chapter.
Now will get to a part that hasn't happened yet, but we can guess.
âAPPROACH TO THE INNERMOST CAVE: Now our hero, and often his allies, have come to the edge of the dangerous place where the "object of the quest" is hidden. This stage often is the land of the dead.
This doesn't matter because, again, Marinette has nothing to lose or gain (nothing important at least, only short lived goals with no relation to the plot). She has no reason to be doing all that other than just to be a good citizen and that isn't interesting.
âTHE SUPREME ORDEAL: The hero faces danger, often a life-or-death moment that is either physical or psychological.
Again, why should we care if Marinette faces danger when we know she doesn't even has a reason of weight to be there in the first place? How we, as the audience, are supposed to root for her when she doesn't have anything to lose or gain from that supreme ordeal?
âREWARD, OR SEIZING THE SWORD: After surviving, our hero takes possession of the object, typically a treasure, weapon, knowledge, token, or reconciliation.
It doesn't matter. If Marinette wins why should we feel like it all finally paid off when she didn't even have a reason to be there or something she wanted to gain? It's just silly. Unless that reward is Adrien's love, which would be pathetic and boring because this is not supposed to be a love story.
âTHE ROAD BACK: The hero must now deal with the consequences of their actions. They may be pursued by remaining forces. They now face the decision to return to the ordinary world.
âRESURRECTION: One final test is required for the purification and rebirth of the hero. Alternatively, it may be a miraculous transformation.
âRETURN WITH THE ELIXIR: The triumphant hero returns to the ordinary world bearing the elixir. Common elixirs are treasure, love, freedom, wisdom, or knowledge. A defeated hero is doomed to repeat the lesson.
I didn't add anything to the last three points because I would just be repeating myself for like the fourth time. Why should we care about the consequences of Marinette defeating Hawk Moth? Why should we care if she goes back to her ordinary world when she didn't even have a reason to leave it? And that's justs makes the two other points unimportant.
That's Marinette's hero's journey. If we can call that a journey, because so far we haven't seen her face trials and dangers, and with this what I want to say is that she hasn't faced anything that threatens what she holds dear, not for real at least. When she faced the possibility of her best friend getting angry at her because she messed with something that was important to her? Oh, that was no biggie! After all Alya knew that would end up happening and was prepared for that, silly Marinette for even worrying! When she literally commits a crime and steals her crush's phone? Why she should worry? She even go rewarded by getting invited to the movies!
Marinette has no flaws (at least to the writers' eyes) to fix, nothing to gain (besides Adrien) because she already has everything, nothing to lose because everyone adores her and because she's so perfect she could never do anything wrong. That's a boring MC. Yes, she's quirky and pretty but that's no enough to make her MC material. She has the characterization of a support character at best. That's awful.
Now let's see Adrien's journey, shall we?
âTHE ORDINARY WORLD: We learn that Adrien is a famous model with a rich father and absent mother (we later learn that she "disappeared"). His life is heavily controlled by his father and his assistant, to the point he can't even go to school like a normal kid or make friends, all because he has a reputation to maintain, after all he's a famous model. He's not happy with his life, he would like to experience normal teenager's experiences like going out with friends or attending school. That's his ordinary world. What he lacks is freedom, autonomy and love, and what was taken from him was his mother. There you have inner conflict, a problem that needs to be solved.
âTHE CALL TO ADVENTURE: Adrien receives the opportunity to become a hero. It'd be a challenge, a problem and an adventure all at once for him. A challenge because he'll have to find ways to get away from his controlling father without getting caught, which can cause him problems, but is also the adventure he has waiting for, the opportunity to be free, that little thing he was lacking in his life. He decides to become Chat Noir because is the right thing, but also because it'll give him something that he always wanted: the opportunity to be himself. For him it's personal. And hey, maybe later on he could use his new cool superpowers to find out about his mom, right?
âTHE REFUSAL OF THE CALL: He could get in so much troubles with his father for accepting this opportunity, it could also damage his career as a model. He has every reason to say no, but also every reason to say yes because he'll get to be what he always wanted. Is an opportunity he can't let go and he knows it.
âMEETING WITH THE MENTOR: Just like in Marinette's case his mentor is that old man. It's basically the same here.
âCROSSING THE THRESHOLD: This point is also similar to Marinette's. He also crossed the threshold the first time he transformed into Chat Noir, the only difference is that for him it matters and we know exactly why. It matters because he'll get the opportunity to be himself, to be free, to escape his real life.
âTESTS, ALLIES, AND ENEMIES: Also similar to Marinette's. He meets Ladybug, he starts to attend school so he makes new friends/allies, he meets his enemy Hawk Moth. We also learn a lot more about him watching his interactions with his new allies and watching him go through his tests. And most importantly, we learn that Hawk Moth is his father.
The next points haven't happened yet, but we can guess. We'll ignore the travesty they did to his character in season 4 and we'll just keep following the hero's journey like the writers should have done.
âAPPROACH TO THE INNERMOST CAVE: He's getting closer to the enemy, but the closer he gets the dangerous it gets. Not only for Chat Noir, but for Adrien too, because let's remember that his father is Hawk Moth and that he knows, or suspects at least, that his son might be Chat Noir. He also did something creepy to his wife, the mother Adrien adores and misses so much. There's so much to lose, so much at stake.
âTHE SUPREME ORDEAL: Adrien faces his father, Hawk Moth. He finds out the truth and that for sure will be the hardest thing ever for him. Imagine learning that your father is the one responsible for all the bad things happening in Paris, that he is the big evil you so badly wanted to defeat. His father was not perfect, but it was still his father and now he has to make a choice. What's more important to him? Family or duty? Can Chat Noir take down Adrien's father? If Chat Noir takes him down, would Adrien be able to forgive himself? Could he live with that?
âREWARD, OR SEIZING THE SWORD: He either fight his father or they talk, get to some sort of agreement/reconciliation or bails out. What will he do? And depending on his choice, how is his road back going to be?
âTHE ROAD BACK: He'll have to deal with the consequences of the choice taken in the previous point. Did he fight his father? Now he'll have to learn to live with it, maybe he'll feel guilty, maybe angry. Did they talk and got to an agreement? Maybe he was able to resolve things in a peaceful way, but now he resents his father. Did he bail out? Maybe it was to difficult for him to go against his father and decided to run away, and now he feels guilty and like a failure. So many possibilities.
âRESURRECTION: His last test. He'll have to learn how to live with the consequences of his actions and make something positive out of it. It'll be hard, but it can be done.
âRETURN WITH THE ELIXIR: After coming to terms with the things that happened he gets his reward. Maybe his mother comes back. Maybe he finally gets the freedom he so much wanted without having to hide behind Chat Noir's identity. Maybe he gets the girl. Maybe he gets the three of them.
See the difference between Marinette and Adrien's journey? Adrien has reasons, goals, things to lose and/or gain, there's so much at stake for him. He could lose what is left of his family, the life he has known, his reputation, his career, his money (although I don't see him particularly caring about wealth, it'd make an impact on him to lose it all), everything. His father is the main villain, how more personal could it get!
Adrien is the main character we deserved, his journey is the one we should be following. He had so much potential it makes me sad that is being wasted like this. He was the deuteragonist, now in season four he's just a side character.
So that brings me to the reasons why I can't keep watching this show:
Firstly, if you want to keep your audience engaged with your show the worst mistake you can make is making your MC perfect from the get go, because that lefts no room for growth. And what is the hero's journey? A journey of growth, but if your MC already has it all, then why bother? Marinette bores me to death and I can't keep watching the show just to see Adrien (one of the very few well written characters that actually made the show entertaining) appear like for two seconds.
Secondly, you don't assassinate your own characters for the sake of uplifting your MC. That's bad writing. That's character derailment and you should avoid doing that like the plague. I'm sorry, but if you have to make your characters act OOC just to uplift your MC and make her look like she finally is having some development after four seasons of static personality, then she hasn't has development at all, because it's not Marinette who changed, the ones who changed are the characters around her. They all became more incompetent than her, more annoying than her, more boring than her (when that wasn't the case before) and now she looks like she's finally growing, but it's just because the writers had to downgrade the other characters. I absolutely detest when writers do that.
I hate the constant addition of new characters that literally bring nothing to the table? But I mean, I kinda understand why they keep adding characters. When your MC is so bland that following her nonexistent journey would make the plot stall, then you have to add new characters to keep the audience entertained and advance the plot a little, because the MC can't do it for herself.
I just can't keep watching only for two or three characters. Thomas and his love for Marinette are literally ruining the show. He loves the character he created so much he refuses to make her go through anything remotely negative and he hates the other characters so much because they're not Marinette, that he destroys the their arcs. His childish and he ruined a show that had so much potential.
Sorry if you're a Marinette fan, but the truth needed to be told.

Roswell New Mexico - Season 3, Episode 7
Another fairly solid episode, but there are a few things frustrating me.Â
I thought the whole try and free Max from Jonesâ control side of the episode was pretty good. It was fun seeing Liz, Isobel, Michael and Rosa all working together. I just like Rosa being involved in general and less isolated and I like her having scenes with Michael. I like the little relationship theyâre forming. Itâs kind of sweet.Â
There was good tension on that side of things with trying to see if their drugging plan was going to work and kind of waiting for Jones to screw them over anyway because you knew that was going to happen. It was more of a question of when and how. But I thought the scenes between him and Liz were well done.Â
I think at this point, everyone knew that Jones was going to be the dictator and that Michael is his son...somehow. Iâm sure weâll get that whole explanation at some point. In any case, it was nice to have the reveal confirmed so everyone is on the same page and the story can progress forward. I think I just wish we knew more about their home planet and the politics and such so that all of this was a bit more meaningful besides just for the pod squadâs sense of identity and relationships with their mothers. We donât really know what Jones is after. Is he angling to get back to their home planet to do something? Is he some kind of threat to humans on earth? I want to know what the stakes are and most of all, I want there to be stakes that are not just set up and immediately resolved in the penultimate episode like usual. Itâs time to break that cycle Roswell.Â
Greg basically professing his love for comatose Maria at that fundraiser was adorable but I really wish we had more time to develop both Greg as a character and his and Mariaâs relationship because theyâre super cute but itâs all pretty surface level. I also just really wish we knew what he knew. Heâs the one character still who Iâm constantly like âwhat do you know sir?â Does he know about the aliens? Is he suspicious at all? Does he know about Mariaâs abilities? Did he know about the vision? For that matter...is her vision still going to happen? I have questions.Â
No idea what was up with reverend Dallas but he was nice to look at.Â
I was sad that Anatsa wasnât the singer at the fundraiser.Â
Iâm still waiting for Isobel to be dating a woman....
And then we get to my other frustrations, the Alex side of things. Iâm still kind of annoyed that heâs so isolated this season. Iâm glad he at least has a comatose Kyle there at the end for company. Hopefully he will wake up at some point soon so Alex wonât be by himself or just with Deep Sky Guy.Â
But mostly Iâm frustrated by the Deep Sky plot because like Jesse and Project Shepherd, they already just...know everything. From a shipping side of things, sure itâs great that everyone is like âoh yeah youâre in love with an alienâ because cool, everyone knows theyâre meant to be. But Iâm tired of everyone saying it, I want them to actually fucking talk to each other so we can build back up to them as a couple rather than just saying theyâre meant for each other until such time as they decide to let them talk and get together again. I just want to see them be friends and grow together and sort out their extreme communication issues and build to a relationship that way instead of just continually keeping them apart. Because I donât feel like either one of them are really learning anything apart?? I donât know, maybe a little but is it worth it? Is it something they couldnât figure out by being friends?Â
And from an alien plot side of things, I hate that Deep Sky just knows everything because I just want tension. I miss that about the original show where it was always like âwe have to keep the shady government agency from finding us so we donât become lab ratsâ. With this, they have these secret shady organizations like Project Shepherd and Deep Sky but theyâre just recruiting the people they love instead of like I donât know saying âhey Michael...want to help us out and also learn about your world?â. They know who all of them are apparently but theyâre just....making no effort to do anything with them? I donât get it. I mean I know Caulfield was a whole thing for years where they were studying them but that tension isnât there in this current timeline. And they just ended that whole Caulfield story as soon as it began. I just donât understand what the point of Project Shepherd and Deep Sky are if theyâre not going to be a real threat to our characters. And the only sense we have of them searching for answers are in vague experiments with radios.Â
So basically, I just want to know what everyone wants cause I donât get it.Â
Also, trying to make John Gilbertâs cameo relevant again was just...sure okay. Also, I donât even know which twin he was talking about because that whole plot was so dumb.Â
This season is still miles better than last season and I mostly enjoyed this episode, but they just have these elements that they donât seem to be utilizing properly and itâs really annoying.Â

First Impressions: RWBY v8c9, âWitchâ
"Witch", huh? Presumably Salem.  Are we going to get more backstory lore? Because YES PLEASE.
The Atlas army vs. the whale whose teeth loom like mountains on the horizon. Â They look like toys. I can't help thinking these soldier mooks equal any Huntsman in courage, if not in skill. Â And this is the first real large-scale action any of them have seen - that anyone in the world has seen in their lifetimes.
eyy Ren has gotten over the snappishness as well as the despairing angst.   Suddenly gaining control of his evolving Semblance must help a lot with the feelings of powerlessness. (And though we haven't seen him use it on Jaune or Yang, I'm thinking being able to know for certain how much your friends care about you and have your back  is a source of power in itself.)
They're discussing fairy tales MY HEART
Ozpin continuing to confirm he has handed over the reins completely to Oscar.  I don't like this about the accelerating merge, though. It feels like we're going to lose Oz  very soon. And yet,  Jinn's vision definitely showed us Oz and host coexisting in middle age.  Did they not use magic in that lifetime?  Or is the merge somehow not about "losing" either one of them?
Team FNKI in a line of regular soldiers! Â They've got to have mobilized all the students, but I wonder if we'll see any others besi- Â Neon. Neon you are wearing rollerskates to the apocalypse. Â
...well, why not? Â
Marrow, Â YOU'RE just a kid. Â You can't be more than a few years older, and you're not that much more seasoned. Though I understand the feeling.
So, Hazel, you're ready to rejoin fact-based reality? Â Or at least listen to someone who pretty much definitionally can't be lying? Â
(Actually...the only information we have about Jinn comes from her, and it'd be a hell of an interesting twist if she was editing facts to fit her own agenda. Â I don't think it's very likely for meta reasons, but it'd make a great fic premise, wouldn't it?)
Huh. Â He sounds much much calmer, and like he's been thinking through everything for the last few hours. Â
....what? He's not even going to ask???  THAT is a surprise.  The existence of Jinn and knowing Oscar  gave him the password in good faith  were enough to deradicalize a violent extremist. (Wish it was that easy in RL.)
Oscar's little wave
(You know, now that I think of it, Â Ozpin has never interacted with Jinn himself. Â She's greeted him twice and he hasn't answered. Â Does he resent her for not answering his predecessor's questions more helpfully? Â Mistrust her? Â )
yes rescue Emerald good
"Just to be  clear" - oh god I thought that was Salem's voice and nearly jumped out of my seat.
"I'll come back for it"  crap crap crap  Hazel's redemption arc is going to be short, painful, and fatal.  And Salem will keep the lamp, if not have the password.
And we'll just all turn our backs on the divine artifact-entity and walk away. Â I guess they don't think she's enough of a person to say goodbye to? Â
And our eavesdropper is...the one person who CAN'T summon Jinn or ask her a question. Â
Oh no. No.  Please don't have the fandom descend into "Jinn is ablist" discourse. (ETA: upon thinking further I take it back, the gods suck and providing a Relic that not everyone can use is in its way a tiny symbol of their callous attitude to people. )Â
RJY working smoothly together, nice.Â
Robyn said people are always suspicious of her, and her truthsense ability has a clearly visible limiting condition.  But Ren can apparently read the emotions of everyone around him all the time without them knowing. Surely that would make a lot of people uncomfortable. (Although I expect the writers to ignore this, and will be pleasantly surprised if they explore it at all.)
That's always the way isn't it, you roll a 4 on your concentration check right when a demonic jellyfish is floating by.
Huh, they separated from Oscar? Â And Hazel is worried about him? I'm still dizzy from the speed of this 180. Â
uh...hi, Salem. Â Nice...weather outside the whale today? Â Seen any good dismemberments lately?
Hazel,  you are a terrible liar and you can't bluff.  Admittedly the stakes are a lot  higher here than in the weekly WTCH poker game.
Salem NYOOM
No one can accuse Yang of not understanding the core competencies.
"Juan"??? I did hear that correctly, yes? Marrow not remembering Jaune's name is hilarious.  And I was about to say understandable, but no, they worked with the Ace Ops for weeks!  Did you just have him mentally filed as "the blond himbo tank"?
O-kayyyyyy. Â Â I can't blame Emerald, Â but this could go so horribly wrong so fast.Â
Isn't Hazel-disguised-as-Oscar  way too heavy to pick up like tha-  OHHHHHHHHH.  Now things make much more sense.  Oscar was the one worried about Hazel earlier,  and failing utterly to bluff.  Infinitely more in character.
Awkward Semblance is also extremely convenient in short-cutting negotiations. Nice.
I do not, in fact, have any doubt that Winter would blow up her sister.  And in this situation  I can't say it's the wrong thing to do.  As far as they know their bomb is the only hope.
Wow. I really did not think weâd go to toe to toe with Salem herself at this point in the plot. Â It's so traditional to save the final boss fight for, well, the final boss. Â She's terrifying and unstoppable, but not actually more terrifying than the giant whale. Â Â
Her regen is just like  the Hound's body morphing, but far smoother and faster with a thousand "deaths" of practice.
She sounds more normal right now, oddly. Â Her voice is lacking both the measured slowness and the resonance it has when she's making speeches. Â I like the idea of that falling away when she's surprised and exasperated. Â
Our heroes are very very lucky that RWBY is not a darker show, or those Grimmhand  restraints would be doing a lot of gross agonizing damage with their nails.  There's no reason she'd want to be gentle at this point.
Yeah, there's the sonorous voice again. Although it wavers again with that "Why do you Keep. Coming. Back?"  Does she not know? How can she not know, Jinn's vision said Ozma told her everything.  Perhaps she means: why do you keep fighting  me instead of hiding like the hermit.
Yang, don't give her information,  gah!  "Her again."  She sounds pleased.  I think we are going to find out Summer's fate this volume after all. Salem will reveal it to break Rubyâs spirit. Prediction: it will work.Â
(EDIT: I completely missed the significance of Yang calling Summer âmy momâ. Wow.)
She definitely intends to turn Emerald into something like the Hound.
"No more Gretchens." Â Oh, of course that's what Oscar said he needed before they could leave, the cane.
Hazel's life expectancy is minutes long but at least it included a satisfying KAPOW. Â And every single sparkly crystal he owns. Â Somehow he seems smaller here, less bulky than he did at Haven. Â Less a titan and more a man.
yigh he's pounding her into mush. Â Which he has several times before, apparently. Â This is all to buy you time, Emerald, why are you not running. Â (I know, I know. Â She's never had someone actually help her and care about her, only scraps of affection to establish control. Â Â At this moment Cinder's hold on her is breaking forever.)
(Neo, on the other hand. Â Will she bring the lamp to Cinder, who frankly has been a totally crap partner and deserves no loyalty? Â Â Is she still after revenge? Â My bet is still firmly on her planning to backstab Cinder as soon as Ruby is gone. Â But beyond that, we don't know her thoughts at all. Â She might join the heroes, or disappear like Raven to hide while the apocalypse works itself out.)
That's true, Oscar, but what can you do to stop her? Â
Hah! Â Clever, Â Hazel. Â And she's actually screaming in pain from the fire, whereas she didn't make a sound when being pulverized.
What does the cane DO?  It's impressive as heck, but I can't tell.  Channeling his magic, certainly.  Are we going to lose Oz  right now?  With no chance to talk to Ruby or Qrow or anyone, to reconcile?  It seems all too likely, and such a waste.
Which makes me think, in turn, that perhaps we will lose Oscar too in a way. Â Unexpected - I have always thought the merge would end with Oscar holding all the memories. Â But maybe he won't be quite either of them anymore, even if he remembers both and the others still call him Oscar. Â And that thought also makes me sad.
Anyway, good episode, though now the title doesnât seem particularly relevant. Hazel was much more the focus.Â

A Shot in the Dark: Chapter One (Authorâs Commentary)
(read the fic here)
General Notes:
(So I kind of stole this idea from my friend @unexpected-possibilities after she made an authorâs commentary post on one of her fics, and I was like âOh. Wait, I actually find this kind of stuff SUPER interesting to read." So...yeah, hereâs mine for anybody who feels similarly lol)
I have been dying to write this kind of story pretty much since the completion of my second Wizards/ToA fic back in August, but it took me a while to suss out the plot. I generally try to keep my fics as canon-friendly as possible (not that I have anything against AUs, thatâs just not a direction that I usually go in) so it was tricky to create a high-stakes adventure story that didnât mess with canon too much.Â
That being said, Chapter 1 is pretty chill, apart from the scene at the end. But it is incredibly important to the plot, because it sets up elements that will be very relevant later in the story. It also serves to re-establish the three-way relationship between Douxie, Archie, and Nari, which will give their interactions in the future chapters more weight.Â
One last general note before we get to the passage-specific stuff: The song âProtectorâ by City Wolf has always been my go-to theme for the Douxie-Archie-Nari relationship, but I think it really captures the feel of this story in particular (or at least, it will once the whole thing is posted lol). Iâve never associated a particular song with any of my other fics before, but this one really was a huge part of what inspired this story, so I highly recommend that you give it a listen, if you are so inclined.
Passage-Specific Notes:
Two pairs of luminous golden eyes were hovering uncomfortably close to his head and staring at him fixedly. Douxie yelped and threw off his covers, scrambling upright and fumbling for his magic vambrace nearby. A small green hand held it out to him politely, and after a bit of confused blinking, Douxie finally registered the faces of his companions. Nari and Archie were sitting on the floor next to his mattress, looking at him eagerly.Â
Two short things: One: I had no idea how I was going to start this scene, and then I remembered that one Calvin and Hobbes strip where Calvin wakes up to find Hobbes hovering over him menacingly, and I was like âYes, that will do nicely.â Two: I still have no idea what Douxieâs magic bracelet-thingy should technically be called, so I settled on vambrace. I know Merlin refers to it as a bracelet in the show, but Merl, Iâm sorry, but you clearly know nothing about jewelry. That thing is NOT a simple bracelet. (Also I had to research the difference between bracers and vambraces in order to determine which word to use. Bracers are apparently protective gear that is exclusive to archery, while vambrace is a more general word for any kind of armor worn on the forearm).
âItâs also the day you promised to bring Nari to Central Park,â Archie informed him.
This is a callback to a previous entry in the series, Home Away From Home. Although each entry in the Immortal Bonds series is written in such a way that it can be enjoyed as a standalone, I do weave tiny threads of continuity throughout all of them.
Mornings for Nari looked very different than they used to, she realized as she set the kettle on the stove, stepping back so Archie could light it (due to her somewhat complicated relationship with Bellroc, she was still wary about anything that involved fire). As a demigoddess who had existed for hundreds of millenia, she had never had much experience with something as human as family domesticity.
The scene where Nari and Archie make Douxieâs tea was originally going to be much longer and feature a lot more introspection on Nariâs part (I even researched the British tea-making process for it, since Iâm fairly certain Douxie is the one who taught her how to make tea). I was going to start exploring the idea that Nari is still insecure about her place in this little found family, but I realized after about three paragraphs that thereâs no way Nari doesnât know how much Douxie genuinely loves her--she is already proficient in reading his emotions at this point. So thatâs an internal conflict for another day.
âKeep very still for me, Nari.â He closed his eyes and took a deep breath, his aura flowing out and wrapping around her like a warm, familiar cloak. âCelare,â he murmured, and Nari felt a sharp tug on her spirit as the spell washed over it, cool and comforting like the shade of an old tree.
If youâve read previous entries in this series, you know that I can wax poetic about the physical sensations of magic for DAYS. It is one of my favorite aspects of writing Tales of Arcadia fanfiction. Also Celare (kel-ahr-ay) is Latin for âHideâ or âConceal.â I had to get outside help for this because I donât speak Latin, and Google Translate is (as I found out) completely unreliable for even the simplest, single-word translations (it gave me the word for âclotheâ when I used it đ)
The first time she had walked the streets of New York City, Nari had been on the verge of tears. There were so many sensations assaulting her mind at once, the feeling of countless souls buzzing around, a crowd of spirits so thick that sometimes it felt like a wall. Even without tapping into her roots, she was drowning in a sea of tangling energies, as hundreds, even thousands of voices echoed in her soul all at once.
Oooooops, is that a parallel for Sensory Processing Disorder? Well, how did that get in there??? *shoves my own mental health issues under a rug with my foot* I have no clue.
This is probably as good a time as any to discuss auras vs. life energy. Basically, aura is the energy radiated by the presence of magic. Magical creatures who share close bonds can become very sensitive to one anotherâs aura, and because magic is so inextricably linked to emotion, Nari is able to read Douxieâs aura to pick up on whatever heâs feeling (though this is because she is extra sensitive to magical presence--Douxie is attuned to her aura, but he canât read hers the way she can his). Life energy, meanwhile, is the energy given off by every living soul, magic or otherwise, and thatâs what Nari is able to sense via her powers as a demigoddess. I sometimes interchange the word aura with spirit or soul or something similar, but if Douxie or Nari are sensing one another in any capacity apart from their actual physical senses, itâs their auras. Archie also has an aura, but itâs not as intense as that of a true magic-wielder. Â
He was fashionably dressed, (âbusiness casual,â the humans called it), with an elegant black trench coat hanging nonchalantly off of his arm. He had dark brown hair, handsomely trimmed and styled, just a bit shorter than Douxieâs, and was wearing a large pair of expensive-looking sunglasses. He looked thoroughly uninterested in the world around him, and had the appearance of someone who was waiting to meet up with a particularly tardy acquaintance. But Nari couldnât sense that he was waiting. She couldnât sense anything from this man. He emitted no life force, no aura or energy of any kind. He was like a standing, breathing corpse.
I have had this character floating around in the back of my mind since August, and I was just waiting for the opportunity to use him. Also fun fact, he was originally conceived as a sort of prototype for who I thought Mordred Le Fey would be in the ToA universe. But since canon is technically still ongoing and the ToA writers could still bring Mordred into the picture, I decided to adapt him into the original character Rivan (whose name will be properly revealed in the next chapter).
Beside her, Douxieâs aura was rippling with unease. But a moment later, his spirit stilled, and he put an arm around her to turn her away from the alley...
...A minute later, the crosswalk signal changed once more, and they continued on their way. Though Douxieâs spirit was radiating a placid energy, Nari couldnât help noticing that he kept his arm around her for the rest of the journey.
It was important to me that Douxie not look like a complete idiot in this scene, which was a little difficult since this part isnât told from his perspective. Homeboy absolutely knows better than to ignore something suspicious like this. But he is also acting as Nariâs brother/guardian in this scene, so he tries to play it off to keep her from worrying too much. He promised her a fun day in Central Park, and heâs not willing to bail on that just yet. But Iâm hoping that the fact that he has to force his aura into a state of calm and physically holds Nari close to him as they walk are good indicators that he has gone on high alert.
And thatâs a wrap for this week! Next Friday, all hell is gonna break loose, so definitely come back for that. If you have any questions/comments, definitely hit me up either in my Ask Box or over on Ao3. As always, thanks for reading! âšđ

I loved warrior nun! I went into it w no expectations other than my brother telling me to watch it and it ended up being so good! I looooove Beatrice and was so happy to see sheâs gay (Iâm assuming based on her heartbreaking reaction to the word lesbian that sheâs specifically a lesbian). Ava honestly annoyed me a lot of the time but I loved all the others, esp Mary! And Ava/B seemed like a potential thing in that hug for me too and then post cinderblocks was !!!! Even tho I think itâll (1/2)
End up as a one-sides crush given her earlier fixation on JC I could also see them as a slow burn friendship turned more. I doubt the show will go there but you never know lol. The show was good beyond any shipping tho which is actually rare for me nowadays, I really hope they get a second season! (2/2)Â
It was good! I was shocked, tbh. It was good in this very specific way that I appreciated, partly because recently, in addition to the shows I watch on the regular, Iâve been trying some f/f books, mostly genre, and the variation in quality of the pacing and especially dialogue can be so noticeable. I need dialogue to be four things: natural, distinct between different characters, advancing character, and advancing plot and honestly, this should be the bare minimum, but itâs really not. So I just super appreciated it in this show that I absolutely didnât expect it from, first seasons and super cheesy sff plots usually mean tons of worldbuilding exposition and attempts to establish and nail down characters, but this did so well with that, just jumping in and passing info as needed. And the actors all committed to their admittedly absurd characters and totally embodied them. I think honestly I just had such low expectations that this exceeding them so well made for an even bigger positive gap in the experience.
Yes, I LOVED Beatrice, god, what a character! From the start. So compassionate while being such a competent leader, that is my absolute favorite character combo. Itâs like, youâre a good judge of people, you see them for what they are, and you still think well of them. Love that. And the little hints about her gayness, which I do agree with you, I think she is a lesbian, but how it was revealed! This goes back to what I was praising above, how the show chose to tell this story, what and how it revealed, who it focused on when it did it. Like, you know from Camila telling her about that passage while smiling to herself, that she knows about Beaâs past and if she does, you can speculate that itâs probably a whole open secret, and from Camilaâs own reaction, not everyone judges her for it as harshly as Bea herself seems to. How much was conveyed in just that little! I loved her relationship with Camila, tbh! I almost wonder if thatâs where they might go, but maybe not. Iâm kind of afraid theyâll kill off Camila if/when s2 picks up because you canât have this high stakes battle and not kill someone off, right? Maybe Mother Superion (who had the HOTTEST voice, btw).Â
Ava...Ava, Ava, Ava. I can totally see how she rubs people the wrong way but I found her endearing. Sheâs a total dumbass, for sure, but she knows it, they all do, lol. Sheâs trying! Mary was greaaat. The way sheâs gonna protect Ava because of Shannon...everyoneâs so multilayered. Lilith being raised for this and being passed over again and again, like, I love them all.
The Ava/Bea (Beava? oh wait, lmao, probably not) thing is...itâs definitely canon one-sided, yeah, I guess weâll have to wait to see how they go with them? The way they introduced JC and even his whole crew, I thought heâd stay relevant the whole time, but he disappeared halfway through and tbh, I donât know what he could offer next season, except a place to lie low, since Jillianâs now distracted? But they have other contacts already and if they bring him back, itâll have to be for more than that. He better not get his own powers or something.
Man, though, I would so love if they went with Ava/Bea, not just for the main character wlw part or it being super central f/f, but theyâre legit great as friends and teammates, Bea gets through to Ava in a way nobody else does (though Mary comes close--whoâd have thought, being nice works) and Ava helps Bea let loose a little without compromising her leadership. I actually super loved that even after the ep 8 reveals, Bea didnât lose what made her Bea, she didnât start to moon over Ava and drop the part of her thatâs a great leader. A lot of media has so much trouble writing character dynamics after that turn, theyâll soften and neuter them far beyond they should, they become different characters, but Bea was exactly who she always was. I also hope they get a second season to like, at least finish off this story, but also I wouldnât mind seeing more of the f/f. :P

Are you still watching Critical Role? It seems like itâs been a while since you posted anything about it. Sorry if you said something and I completely missed it.
Oh hi there!
Yeah, itâs been a while since Iâve been active on tumblr. I canât watch live anymore because adulthood has caught up to me and getting up at 4 AM for it is no longer feasible. I caught up recently and am now only like 2.5 episodes behind I think, but... I just donât feel strongly about it right now? I found these post-break episodes to be exceedingly frustrating. The idea of a Jester Harem delighted me, but by traveler con it was just like. Guys. Guys. How about any of you actually talk to her instead of about her. Also the turn Beau took has been... Discouraging. I was really into Beaujester. And ever since the big break it kiiinda feels like the cast has made some sort of backroom deal to work out the ships and for some reason weâre back with... Fjorester. Which I didnât have a problem with when it was relevant... What, two years ago? But not since they left the ocean, and so this feels like a regression for both of them.Â
The plot has also been meandering all over the place. Itâs hard to get excited over. Whoever told Matt that the Chroma Conclave arc went on for too long is the biggest traitor to fandom and franchise. I need focus, Matt. Stakes. Make the dragon land on Nicodranas already.
I am looking forward to catching up with the dining with your enemy scene from last Friday though. Caleb is easily my least favorite character in the weeks when Veth is agreeable, so his backstory with all the bad gratuitous German being what draws me back in would be some sweet irony, wouldnât it.

The Lost Special?
Musings over possible implications of BBC Dracula
After obsessively watching all three episodes of BBC Dracula, I canât help feeling Iâve got one of my suspicions, if not exactly confirmed, at least enhanced: that this Victorian old story, finally adapted into present time, might in fact be relevant to Mofftissâ version of ACDâs short story The Lost Special. Maybe it is, maybe it isnât, but since I canât deny I do like âtin-hattingâ, for now I choose to believe it is. ;)
(Continued under the cut)
As some of you guys already have expressed, I think BBC Dracula has BBCÂ Sherlock written all over it. I believe this was obvious already from the setup; same authors, same producers, same broadcasters, same set designer, same format, three of the same actors including one of the writers, and even the same airing slot as BBC Sherlock. The Sherlock hints are sprinkled all over the two first episodes, which occur in the same Victorian time frame as ACDâs original Sherlock Holmes stories. This for example:

But the bringing of Bram Stokerâs old narrative into present time in the third episode (The Dark Compass) kind of sealed the deal for me.Â
Suddenly we have Count Dracula sending text messages by smart phone to his victims:

We have Dracula vomiting on the rug of a crime scene:

We have him storing body parts in the fridge! (X)

And this fridge scene is taking place while Dracula is watching a TV program with elephants on the Savannah, exclaiming âLook at her - so beautiful!â:Â

Who is beautiful - the âElephant in the Roomâ? It certainly feels like Mofftiss are stringing us along here, doesnât it? ;)) But no; itâs the sun that Dracula admires as beautiful, we learn that in the show. The shining from the sun is a thing he thought he could never endure, but ultimately he learns that he actually can.

Same thing as Sherlock says about John Watson the distant suns in the sky in TGG:

Or about Sister Sentimentâs music in TFP:

Taking Dracula to modern time is something that the authors had expressly denied they would do. But they were lying of course, as is their usual MO. Exactly the same deception as they did with TAB, isnât it? And as if this wouldnât be enough, thereâs a whole list of other modern Sherlock references, summarized by @gosherlockedâ (X). Iâm sure thereâs more, we just need some more time to find them.Â
As I mentioned in this comment recently (X):Â The Lost Special (X) is a short story about a derailed, disappeared train that ACD wrote during the Great Hiatus (1898). It bears some typical Holmes-case mystery characteristics. And the anonymous person who in this story sends a letter to the train company, suggesting a way of solving the case, seems very much to be Holmes himself:
âIt is one of the elementary principles of practical reasoning, that when the impossible has been eliminated the residuum, HOWEVER IMPROBABLE, must contain the truth. It is certain that the train left Kenyon Junction. It is certain that it did not reach Barton Moss. It is in the highest degree unlikely, but still possible, that it may have taken one of the seven available side lines. It is obviously impossible for a train to run where there are no rails, and, therefore, we may reduce our improbables to the three open lines, namely the Carnstock Iron Works, the Big Ben, and the Perseverance.â

(X). So this short story indeed looks like a Holmes story in disguise. But Sherlock Holmesâ name is never mentioned in The Lost Special and the storyteller is not John Watson. In this story the police did not act on this anonymous personâs advice. The truth wasnât revealed until one of the perpetrators - a hired murderer who was threatened with execution years later - admitted that he had participated in derailing the train in question (X): âA conspiracy of men had temporarily re-attached the side track leading to the abandoned mine Heartsease just long enough for the train to go down to the mine, then pulled the tracks back up before they could be discovered.â To the broader audience, however - the Holmes readers - the character of Sherlock Holmes remained âdeadâ.
The wrapping up
One could say that The Lost Special both had and had not a satisfactory ending. Satisfactory because the truth was finally told and the mystery thus solved, but unsatisfactory because in spite of all the hints, the readers didnât get to know anything more from Holmes. Not until years later (1903) when ACD actually did âresurrectâ him and continued the narrative of Sherlock Holmes with 33 more short stories.Â
When Dracula finally âdiesâ at the end of the BBC Dracula series, itâs not by being âstakedâ or burnt to ashes with the sunlight as one would expect for a âmonsterâ like him. Itâs by embracing the criticism of his most resilient but dying opponent: Zoe/Agatha Van Helsing (Mofftiss call her âZagathaâ in an interview). She is dying from cancer, not from vampire bites. Dracula drinks her (to him) mortal blood and then âdiesâ in her arms, basking in the sunlight (without burning) in a tender loversâ embrace.Â

Zagatha in BBC Dracula is criticizing the vampire for skulking in the shadows, being afraid of facing death. She says it will be his punishment to live on for eternity, while she is mortal and dying:

Seriously, this is so much âBuffy the Vampire Slayer that I canât just... But Count Dracula re-writes Bram Stokerâs original story and opts for another solution: to âdieâ willingly in the sunlight, together with Zagatha. And if dying is a metaphor for falling in love - as I believe it is in BBC Sherlock - this might have some important implications. I think Dracula and Zagatha here represent two sides of Sherlock that are finally allowed to merge; his Sentiment and his (Homo)sexuality.
Like The Lost Special, BBC Dracula is nicely wrapped up and âsolvedâ. But we still donât really know what happened with Count Dracula, because we donât actually see him crumble into ashes like he did in Stokerâs canon, and like the other vampire who was âstakedâ in the show - Lucy Westenra. But the episode is packed with Sherlock references, so...
But I canât say for the life of me that S4 of BBC Sherlock brought a satisfactory ending for the Holmes narrative either; itâs not âwrapped upâ at all! John and Sherlock seem to live on for eternity as âbest friendsâ, solving crimes in the heteronormative âlegendsâ preferred by Ghost!Maryâs voiceover. They are simply immortal, Un-Dead for ever - like a punishment? Wouldnât it be far more satisfying if Sherlock Holmes and John Watsonâs characters would come out and appear âhumanâ and âmortalâ and not have to remain just âbest friendsâ forever?
The (lack of) train references
One might argue, of course, that there are no specific train references in BBC Dracula, so how could we think it has anything to do with The Lost Special? Because, like The Lost Special, BBC Dracula is a Sherlock story in disguise! And because in the BBC Sherlock narrative itself there are already several episodes with train references; the most prominent of them is TEH and the last one - TFP. So thereâs really no need for more references. But the train theme isnât explained; itâs not âwrapped upâ at all, and neither is Sherlockâs story. Iâve tried to argue before that the detective is actually dying in S4, and so have others (X). And making him immortal will not save his credibility as a human.

I do hope heâll wake up again, though - preferably with help of modern medicine rather than superstition - to a more credible and realistic story than both TFP and Dracula. ;)Â
In TEH, apart from scenes with John Watson traveling alone through the Underground network of London, we have a derailed Underground train carriage near Sumatra road, where no-one would care to look. Like a Lost Special. Itâs not carrying a bomb; the whole carriage is the bomb, which is threatening to overthrow the Parliament. Which very much makes me think that Mofftiss still have a metaphoric âbombâ stored for us, a ârug-pullâ of sorts. But John and Sherlock (and the world) were not ready in TEH, so they switched it off. The âbombâ never went off in S3 (2014). In TEH John was urging Sherlock to âuse your Mind Palaceâ to defuse the bomb, and I think he did - for the rest of the show up until TFP. Because in TEH, Instead of the big explosion, we got a truly weird, staged scene with Anderson (who didnât quite believe Sherlockâs explanation anyway).Â
And then the plot carried on in its heteronormative tracks with Johnâs wedding and Mary taking over the narrative. But in TST we learned that Sherlock, as a child, had re-written an old tale about someone encountering Death in âSamarraâ into a story where the hero ends up in Sumatra instead, and lives. In TFP the plot derailed completely into an absurd horror story, and we got Moriarty as train driver, going âChoo-choo!â like a train whistle:Â

But the only 'explanationâ related to trains that we learn about Moriarty in TFP is rather lame: that Jimâs brother supposedly was a station master (not from canon, though). And then he goes âtick-tock, tick-tockâ like a ticking bomb:

(Also similar to Mycroftâs âtick-tockâ countdown until heâll die from obesity in TAB). But no bomb went off at that point in TFP either (Iâm not counting the Patience Grenade here, because that happened before the âtick-tockâ). So what was all that tick-tocking about? And how long will it keep ticking asdf?
The Sussex Vampire etc.
After reading some interesting metas from @yeah-oh-shitâ (X, X) and @ebaeschnbliahâ (X) I feel more and more convinced that legal issues with the ACD Estate might be very relevant for what Mofftiss are doing with BBC Sherlock and BBC Dracula. Three important ACD stories have now entered the public domain on January 1st this year: The Sussex Vampire (SUSS), The Illustrious Client (ILLU, where Holmes and Watson visit a turkish bath ;)Â ) and The Three Garridebs (3GAR; known for a scene where Holmes shows a glimpse of his true feelings for Watson). in SUSS thereâs a quote about Sumatra which I find really interesting in the context described above:
âMatilda Briggs was not the name of a young woman, Watson,â said Holmes in a reminiscent voice. âIt was a ship which is associated with the giant rat of Sumatra, a story for which the world is not yet prepared.Â
As I said in this comment (X), thereâs a lot of subtext to draw from this. And I do hope the world is prepared now. ;)

Lily liveblogs: âThe Rise of Skywalker,â part two
Neener, neener, world-building is for losers. Not to mention plot, character development, and general coherence.
(Or, fifty ideas in a trench coat pretending to be one movie.)
Look, you get ONE fetch quest per film, and we've already exceeded the limit here, please stop... [does not stop]
Poe literally has to ask to kiss Zorii because she's wearing a mask, lol. I mean, I like to think he would anyway, but... just saying.
They literally slot the medallion into the designated coin slot and that's it, it's over so fast, lololololol.
Like, the FO lets them in because they have a medallion and then only sends two troopers to investigate because Something Is Clearly Up? LOLOLOLOLOLOL.
Okay, they're just going to straight up assault the Star Destroyer. 10/10 for style. Refuge in audacity and all that. Fine, whatever.
Finn ought to have some idea about the layout of the place, didn't the FO teach him that stuff when he was a stormtrooper? Or at least enough to have a hint. Or are they just going to wander around without a clue and magically find the right spot??
Oh, Rey's mastered the mind-trick now, good to know. (*Legally Blonde voice* "What, like it's hard?")
Poe's question if Rey does that to him and Finn is 100% spot on and he is RIGHT to ask that because the mind trick is SUPER INVASIVE and can be badly misused.Given how recalcitrant Poeâs been, Iâm sure sheâs been tempted.
Rey is so concerned about Chewie until she gets distracted by the dagger, sigh... [Han Solo voice] Convenient. [/Han Solo voice.]
Why do they need the dagger macguffin if they already have the coordinates? What a stupid thing to get Rey alone so she and Kylo can have a moment.
Kylo searching through Kijimi for Rey like he's got no fucking clue, lololol. So much for their "Force bond" here.
Does Finn feel, like, anything for the troopers he's shooting? I mean, obviously not in the heat of battle, but like, ever? Considering that his friend's death on Jakku was what snapped him out of the FO brainwashing in the first place... so he knows it's possible for the others to change. So... what a wasted opportunity here.
Literally, all of the troopers are patrolling either in pairs or alone, that is so dumb if there's actually an alert out on the ship for them.
Is Poe having PTSD flashbacks to the last time he got captured by the FO? Because I would, if I were in his shoes.
Rey picks up the dagger and has flashbacks again PSYCHOMETRY PSYCHOMETRY PSYCHOMETRY PSYCHOMETRY
Okay, the FUCK is going on with this fight scene. Where is she, really? Is she Force projecting? How can she do that when it killed Luke? How can BOTH of them be in two places at once? Ie, it's not that Rey is suddenly having an out-of-body experience and fighting Kylo on a spiritual plane in Kijimi - she's also fighting in Kylo's room, and even though I could see her body moving in time with her mind, is Kylo projecting himself into his room with HER, too? What is happening?
I feel like this scene would be so much more powerful if we established some parameters for HOW THIS POWER FUCKING WORKS so I know what the stakes are. Wouldn't it be interesting if this moved used life force, for instance, the same way that healing did? What are the restrictions/limitations? Why is none of this ever explained? It just happens... waaaaaahhhhhhh
I really love it when this is an open question in works that are thematically ABOUT "is it a dream? is it real? is it a mindfuck?" [see: Inception] but that's NOT THE POINT OF THIS FILM, this is a side issue, so it SHOULDN'T BE A MYSTERY, it should be actually intelligible to me what is going on even if I don't understand all the intricacies.
It does look cool, though. I'll grant them that much. The aesthetics of a night fight in the falling stone are ON POINT. Too bad the fight doesn't really use much of its scenery to any advantage. This could be literally anywhere for all that the characters draw on their surroundings.
"Wherever you are, you are hard to find." So smooth, Kylo.
Rey VERY CLEARLY SAYS "I don't want this!" in response to Kylo's "I've been in your head". Because consent is for LOSERs, am I right? [/sarcasm] ugghhhhhhh
"Your parents are no one...." but turns out they were actually someone! Never mind we never get their names or backstory anywhere! That might make them... interesting! Or even RELEVANT.
Okay, so stuff from Kijimi is literally spilling into the star destroyer and vice versa, is that actually happening or is that just a visual metaphor/dream sequence, I really need to know wtf is going on here.
Kylo using his knowledge of/from Palpatine to manipulate Rey is terrible but actually something he would do... and kinda clever. I'll grant him that much.
Ochi looks just like a twisted version of Maz, except taller... does that mean anything? probably not!
We literally have no connection to these two random new characters so their fate does not resonate as much as it SHOULD HAVE. Which one was Palpatine's kid? How did he HAVE kids in the first place? What was said kid's life like? Why did they grow up to run away and defy their dad? How did they meet the other partner? How did all this, you know, HAPPEN??
And why did Palpatine send an agent to kill them instead of killing/tortuing them himself, since they clearly had info he was interested in? THE FUCK.
I was hoping the Vader mask would finally be destroyed, but NOOOOOOOOOOO.
Lol how Kylo's like "I'm gonna only tell you the rest of the story in person" as if they weren't already fighting face to face in some weird dream-reality hybrid thingy. Kylo, you are so desperate and so so so so dumb.
LOL, Hux being all dramatic here. "I'm the spy!"
This just gets funnier when you remember how Poe trolled the SHIT out of him at the beginning of TLJ, so Poe has NO CLUE (because the writers didn't either until just now, natch), AND why Poe's reaction when Hux says he's gonna "do it himself" (ie, murder Poe) is so on point.
I approve of Rey looting Kylo's room before running off. Too bad she doesn't smash the Vader mask and be done with it. At least Chewie gets his crossbow back.
"I don't care if you win. I need Kylo Ren to lose." 10/10, excellent character motivation, and I approve. Hux is such a bastard and Kylo totally deserves this betrayal. (also: the Imperial philosophy in a nutshell.)
I'm not averse per se to Rey Palpatine, but this way of handling it is total bullshit and an asspull, sigh.
Oh, no, here comes the Force dyad nonsense. "We have no choice but to be together because we're SOULMATES! I'm stalking you because I LOVE YOU and it's DESTINY, Rey!" </sarcasm>
Oh, the destroyer is still in the atmosphere over Kijimi and not in space, I see. getting bespin feels here. This should have happened in the second movie not halfway through the third.
Yup, there's the "join me and rule the galaxy" offer right on cue.
Taking off your mask does not help here, Kylo. No one cares about your puppy dog eyes, you fucking stalker.
yeah, she would have jumped if the Falcon hadn't shown up right at the last minute, lol.
[Honestly, I would have had her jump and land smack on the back of the Falcon, but that may just be my twisted sense of humor talking.]
love kylo's dismay as she gets away. EXCELLENT LEAP. And Finn is wearing an oxygen mask, which is a detail which I <3!
Hux just dies with no drama, which is too bad, but also soooo typical of Imperial/FO management style. Live by the sword, die by the sword. Good thing your pettiness lives on!
(Pryde is clearly the Real Villain now that Hux is Actually Good, I see what you did there.)
I hate how Rey literally shuts Finn out here, when he is TRYING TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND REMIND HER SHE'S A GOOD PERSON and Rey is so confused by Kylo's constant gaslighting that she ignores him. Like, psychologically understandable (and sad) but I fucking hate it. Finn deserves so much better than this.
Palpatine talks in Kylo's head... how? why? Why does Palps have this kind of connection with Kylo when he had to make hologram calls to Vader the old-fashioned way? (I know they established at the beginning of the film that they had this relationship, but it's still odd and inexplicable. Like the whole thing that was supposed to make Mara Jade special was that she could hear his voice anywhere in the galaxy... and Kylo's just... got that... for no reason? Because Palps targeted him since he was a kid???
(Keep in mind Kylo was concieved RIGHT AFTER ENDOR, so I dunno what Palps was up to or how long it would take him to get a body or LITERALLY ANY WAY IN WHICH THIS WOULD MAKE LOGISTICAL SENSE.)
It's a moon of Endor, but a DIFFERENT moon of Endor, fine, okay, and we're going to ignore the whole "How did the Death Star ruins get here, anyway?" because that's a world-building problem of an entirely different order of magnitude and just roll with it.
I do believe Rey is mentally running the numbers on Death Star scrap/value of kyber crystals on the open market here, because old habits die hard. And that is such a gorgeous shot, with the cliffs and the churning sea and the ruins.
Oh, I see, the wayfinder was on the moon because it was in the Death Star with Palps and somehow... didn't explode or get sucked out into the vacuum of space. That's a leap, but okay, whatever, fine.
using a macguffin to find another macguffin, wow.
I don't literally don't understand how this dagger is supposed to work as a compass, but fine, whatever. now we will never see it again.
Jannah looks great, I love her character design, but unfortunately, this movie is going to spend very little time exploring the world she lives in because we have to rush onto the next thing, sigh. And apparently, they know about the Resistance! Okay. And they know Babu Frik... or Babu Frik knows them enough to call in some favors...? WHAT.
So it's too dangerous to travel on the water because the waves are so big... which means some killer tides! That is actually interesting, but Rey just overrides everyone and goes anyway (alone!!) so I don't even know why this comes up as an obstacle if it is instantly resolved. This film keeps doing that, and it is not as cute as the director thinks it is.
Finn and Jannah bond over being ex-FO, and this film should spend wayyyy more time on this than it does. THEY BOTH HAD "FEELINGS" ABOUT WHAT WAS RIGHT AND THEY OVERCAME THEIR BRAINWASHING -- Finn is talking about the feeling and calling it "the Force," this is great, AND MY HEART IS DISSOLVING IN A MILLION FEELS AND I JUST... WANT THIS TO FREAKIN' MATTER... why is Finn so sure the Force is real? Faith? Or because he's actually a Jedi, too? (You already know which one I believe here. MAKE HIM A JEDI YOU COWARDS.)
Rey just fucks off and steals Jannah's boat? Where... was it? How did she find it? What... how does that even make sense??
too bad they don't have a working ship, they could just FLY over the ocean instead of surmounting the waves for extra unnecessary drama, lol.
Please keep in mind that Rey grew up in a fucking desert. That she cannot (despite what TLJ might have told you) swim. Yet she is on a boat in an ocean alone. This is a terrible idea. (I'm not going to say it's OOC, because Rey would, in fact, totally do this--just emphasizing how bad an idea this is.)
Finn says, "You have no idea what she's fighting" to Poe... who does know, actually. Kylo tortured him at the beginning of TFA, just like he tried to do later in that film to Rey. Surely Finn should... know this?
If Finn and Poe are going to fight here, fine, this is just a stupid argument. Finn says he and Leia know what Rey is up against and Poe says, I'm not Leia, YES WE NOTICED POE.
Whyyyy is Poe the Team Skeptic here and such a grouch?? not cool.
"That's for damn sure." OH SNAP. And also, actual profanity in Star Wars? Whoa!
Of course Finn is going to go after her.
I will say this: the Death Star ruins look hella cool. also, a nice callback to the beginning of TFA where Rey is exploring the Star Destroyer ruins.
my goodness, the upper arm strength required. I love this scene. they should have made Palpatine's ghost haunting the ruins so we could have the final boss fight here - that would make so much more since than him fucking off to Exegol of all places.
(the ruins are totally my aesthetic, tho.)
And the Sith wayfinder.. is just floating in midair. In the ruins of the Death Star that shouldn't exist. In some sort of chamber with no security whatsoever. wowwwwww. Oh, okay, it's in some sort of suspended chamber thingy, but still.... security measures??
Hey, Rey touches it, and experiences a creepy vision--PSYCHOMETRY, ANYONE? A security measure? Oh, no, just a crazy Force vision... maybe? I don't know anymore. I don't know why.
The double-bladed quarterstaff lightsaber is super cool, though.
Rey fighting her evil self in the crumbling tech ruins is TOTALLY MY AESTHETIC YESSSSSSSSS.
since Rey gets a vision when she touches the wayfinder and is released when she lets go of it, I honestly wonder what the other wayfinder said to Kylo, if he experienced anything when he touched it.
speaking of which, there's kylo! ughhhhh.
Like, literally Rey could have stolen the Sith wayfinder from Kylo if he had left it in his room, and she blew up at least one of his TIE fighters that had it so... I don't even know if Kylo has one anymore. Maybe he doesn't need it? WHATEVER.
Rey is not amused. GIVE ME MY MACGUFFIN!
This is, for the record, the THIRD FIGHT between Kylo and Rey in this film, please just kill him already.
Kylo trying to gaslight Rey about not being a Jedi and how she's proven she's not and she'll disappoint Leia. HOW THE HELL DO YOU THINK LEIA FEELS ABOUT YOU, KYLO??? PROJECTING MUCH???
"Like I can't [go back to Leia]." Ooooohhhhhhh, forced teaming there, way to make your move by claiming to show vulnerability. YOU CHOSE THIS. YOU CHOSE THAT PATH. SHE SENT HAN TO BRING YOU HOME AND YOU MURDERED HIM BECAUSE SNOKE TOLD YOU TO SO YOU COULD LEVEL UP IN HIS STUPID DEATH CULT AND SNOKE TURNED OUT TO BE A PUPPET SO IT WAS ALL FOR NAUGHT, YOU ASSHOLE, and NOW YOU'RE TRYING GASLIGHT REY BY PROJECTING YOUR FAILURES ONTO HER.
And he shatters the macguffin rather than let her have it because he's that much of an asshole.
He doesn't pull out his lightsaber until several seconds in, just moves around because he genuinely doesn't want to hurt her even though he just provoked her into losing her temper to prove a point.
It's raining back on Jungle Planet for ATMOSPHERE and Leia is having a Force Vision of DOOOOOOOM, this was oh so clearly supposed to be for Han's death in TFA, but noooooooooooo we're using it here.
(Also, how is it not raining on the tech, I think there are roofs, but it's so hard to tell.)
Maz is so dramatic about this. "Leia knows what must be done, Artoo." Yes, Kylo is going down.
The aesthetics of the ocean ruins fight scene are 100% my jam, not gonna lie, it looks very cool.
So, once again, the Supreme Leader went off on his own... without backup... not even his own private biker gang.... AGAIN. I just.... can't even... what an idiot. What an absolute idiot.
Good thing Finn and Jannah are here, though I doubt the narrative will actually let them do much. I wish Finn and/or Jannah would just shoot Kylo here once Rey gives them an opening, but no, they're just going to stand there helpless. Â
I get why Rey pushes them away so Kylo won't use them against her as hostages, but STILL. THERE ARE THREE OF YOU AND ONE OF HIM. USE THAT TO YOUR ADVANTAGE, REY.
drenched unhappy Kylo Ren is excellent, yesssss.
This is the first time I've seen anyone use the Force to halt the blade of a lightsaber... interesting.
Rey is treating her lightsaber like it's one-half of a quarterstaff, I LOVE it, but it also begs the question why didn't she just make a double-bladed saber (with, say, a split kyber crystal from TLJ?) in the first place instead of using a weapon that clearly doesn't work for her as well????
Leia could have reached out to her son at any moment, but she chose not to because she needed to save her strength... but Palps can talk to Kylo across the galaxy and he's fine?? And Kylo and Rey can be in two different places and be just fine (yeah okay, Force dyad soulmates whatever whatever)??? THIS MAKES NO SENSE.
Rey stabbing Kylo with his own damn blade is POETIC CINEMA and also justice. FINALLY.
I think if there were any questions about whether Rey has killed someone, the answer in this scene is no. I can't tell if she's crying for Leia, for shock, for relief, for grief and regret over murdering Kylo, or what.
WHY DOES SHE USE HER LIFE FORCE TO HEAL HIM? WHY? WHY? WHY??????????? (give me a motivation, I dont know what her motivation is here, I dont know why she makes this sacrifice to HIM of all people and I feel like I really should know for this scene to have emotional impact but it doesn't).
LEIA SACRIFICED HERSELF FOR YOU, REY, AND YOU'RE JUST GOING THROW IT AWAY LIKE THIS???
Now, if this movie were actually serious about Kylo and Rey being a Force dyad or two halves of the same whole, then we, the audience, would realize along with Rey that she can't let Kylo die without hurting herself... which I'm not sure I would enjoy, but would at least be COHERENT and fit into the ESTABLISHED WORLDBUILDING even if said worldbuilding is dumb and personally offensive to me. I'M JUST SAYING THERE ARE OPTIONS HERE, YOU TOTALLY HAD OPTIONS THAT WOULD HAVE MADE NARRATIVE SENSE SO I DIDNâT HAVE TO DO IT FOR YOU ON THE SPOT.Â
"I did want to take your hand. Ben's hand." We know that. That was the whole ending of TLJ. Why is this such a shock now??? She already said that at the end of the last movie, so what have we accomplished since? Absolutely nothing has changed on that front, Kylo!!
Also, Kylo--she saved your life when she didn't have to, and you can't even say Thank you? YOU UNGRATEFUL ASSHOLE.
{there's one hour left in this movie WHATTTTTTTTTTTTT how is that even possible}
lol, she just straight up steals his ship.... which is just perched on top of the ruins nearby and hasn't been damaged at all by spray... and which should ALSO have the wayfinder macguffin in it.... so she's going to Exegol, right? The thing she's been wanting to do for the whole movie? The thing that they only have what, four hours left before the attack or whatever?
NOPE. She goes to Ahch-To. Because of course she does.
I hate this fucking movie so much.

thoughts on this week's ep?
**spoilers for broadway brawl**
***Before we start, I remembered as I was typing this one of the important notes I lost from last weekâs recap: Interesting that Christmas seemingly went off without a hitch. I expected Santa to come back into play somehow (like, someone would check on him to make sure Christmas was still on or heâd call them in to help or something) but he hasnât, at least not yet.***
My guys, my guys, my guys. Was that something or was that something?
I think I am on record as saying that combat is my least favorite part of ttrpgs generally speaking because Iâm here for the RP but when a combat episode shines it really freaking shines (see eg: that first combat ep of Bloodkeep where everyone went full Galaxy Brain except for Matt who couldnât hit a single thing) and this is such a good example. This is easily a top five ep of the season for me, maybe top three so letâs get into it and break down why it was so awesome.
We start right where we left off with Titania and members of her court having come into the theater to beat the tar out of Misty mid-show.
Quick note: At the end of last ep, it was set up so that Misty was thrust on stage right after hearing the mirror was on stage which would place this fight right at the top of Act 2 but at the start of this ep, Brennan seems to indicate that itâs taking place during what would be the closing number. Which would make more sense but imagine you go see a play, the first act is super dope, and then the second act is an insane, minute long fight thatâs pretty unconnected to the plot and then a buff, naked, beautiful man tells you the show is over and you should leave. Wild. Anyway.
Pixies with tommy guns in inherently funny.
So one of the things that makes this fight really great is the way it directly ties into the story in a way besides âThese bad guys are in our way.â Misty is using this show as a part of her reincarnation spell so if the show is messed up, it fails and sheâs on her last life. Brennan has a cool mechanic of making her roll death saves every round at a difficulty lower than her modifier (which is s/t crazy like 11) but that gets harder with damage done to her and performance checks failed by other players who decide to jump on stage. Itâs a great way to make the battle feel like it has more personal stakes and itâs my fave original Brennan mechanic since the Family in Flames Sophieâs Choice situation.
(I love that the death save counter is changed for theater comedy/tragedy masks for this. Nice touch.)
Em, Esther, and Wally are also at the fight which is clutch.
Also, Sondheim is specifically here which is an insane detail to add just because.
WILD that no one knows whatâs going on with the ritual initially because, as Lou almost does, getting all the civilians out is the smart move and it would COMPLETELY ruin Mistyâs plans instantly.
Lou having Kingston take the stairs bcâs heâs 50+ years old and has no time for that nonsense has equal but opposite energy to him doing extra rolls for Fabian to do unnecessary parkour before a simple attack because Fabianâs Like That.
Murph fireblasts the hell out of Titaniaâs foot soldiers right off the bat from outside of counterspell range which is very cool.
âGive me a performance check for the cockroach.â
âYouâre upstaging me bitch?â
Another great thing about this fight is that because of itâs theatrical nature, everyoneâs RPing it more than a usual battle ep (or more intensely maybe is what I mean).
Titania hypnotizes Don Confetti and his goons into fighting for her.
âShe doesnât know sheâs in a play but she does sing most of her dialogue which is helpful for you.â Titania is just Like That.
Pete drops an erupting earth and drops a sick 37 damage on those same minions Kug got.
I didnât notice before but yeah, Ally does roll die like a f-ing beyblade champion.
Emily hearing Murphâs low key, offhand comments and cracking up is great.
âGet Sondheim!â (Emily and then Ally: WHAT?!)
Actual living dude Stephen Sondheim being involved in this fight is just so ridiculous and fun and crazy.
We go around to Mistyâs turn and she has to beat a 28 (upped from 10) and she fails which feels worse than a normal failed death save somehow.
Lou, in a very good RP move, tells Pete to tell Misty to end the show so she can tell them not to so the group has a valid reason to not evacuate which is a thing they (or at least him and Ricky) would obviously want to do.
Sophie, the madwoman, jumps out of the balcony, grabs a costume, then runs on stage. Emilyâs glee at being told that her grabbing the costume will give her advantage is great. Sheâs always trying to figure out how to make the most of her moves. She is the living embodiment of the concept of method to madness (which is from Hamlet since weâre talking Shakespeare today).Â
Ox is constantly dying (Brennan!) but also itâs like, why was he even there before the fight started? Iâve never seen a non-service dog in a theater.
Ricky: Is this part of it?
Oh, forgot to mention that everything that happens on stage is kinda shielded by the Umbral Arcana so everyone watching thinks itâs part of the show, which is a cool plot detail.
Ricky gets fULLY NAKED (Emily, with perfect comic timing: Now do I roll with disadvantage?) and leaps into the fray. He casts Protection from Evil and Good on her which (1) He does by Magic Mike body-rolling on her while heâs naked and considering how much shorter she is that her raises some interesting questions about positioning and (2) is the most clutch use of this spell Iâve seen in a while. Itâs a spell I always wanna take as a Paladin because it makes sense character-wise, but Iâve never been able to actually use it because weâre never fighting fiends, fae, or celestial.
Brennanâs dime change change reversal of the criticâs comments on Rickyâs body rolls when Zac re-rolls his 11 makes me glad I never had to face him in a debate team setting.
Ally: Whatâs Estherâs deal ;)/Brennan: *Estherâs Weapon Stats*
âYour only secret youâve ever had in your life is that you have a crush on her.â
Wally has a beautiful singing voice and a working knowledge of Midsummer's which is wild.
Louâs periodic, âMy manââs when Ally/Pete does something cool. Heâs very dialed into being Kingston.
Rickyâs aura keeps everyone near him from being charmed and Misty saves everyone else w/ a nat 20 counterspell. Few things in D&D are more satisfying than a well executed counterspell.
Titania trying to get Pete to be her consort or something when he just over the super posh Priya is very funny.
âI mean between me and Sondheim, get Sondheim!â
âDO WE HAVE HOMEWORK TONIGHT?â (âWe did have homework.â)
Anyway, Misty has one success now!
Misty tries to use puppet to get Titania to drop her crown and it doesnât work. Brennan says the crown is Crown of Stars which I looked up and itâs actually a spell, not a physical crown, but Iâm assuming he used the mechanical effects of the spell on a physical item.
Brennan doing all these musical/singing bits when he absolutely doesnât have to. I love it.
I love Ricky and Sophie being the two martial fighting heavy hitters of the group. Like, the two fighters, having the spellcastersâ backs.
I hope the one kung fu fan in the back of the theater never sees another Broadway show again because heâs gonna be so disappointed.Â
âIâm just so inspired by that beautiful penis.â
Murph, out of character, verbally acknowledging how insane what theyâre doing is. I love when someone pauses in a game of D&D to just recite whatâs currently happening out of context so everyone can appreciate how crazy it is. D&D. Gotta love it..
Emily and Siobhan have a quick conversation in the background about whether Sondheim did Les Mis or not (not, thatâs Claude-Michel Schönberg) while Brennan and Murph are Ring nonsense.
I also was mildly suspicious of Alyssa so Iâm glad Kingston checked her out.
The entire roast of Brennan when heâs selecting D6s is an instantly iconic D20 moment. I canât do it justice. You kinda just have to see it.
âSomeone call Wizards of the Coast!â
Em, Wally, and Alyssa go out when Titania puts out a huge spell that blinds Kug.
âYummy, yummy, tastes like ass.â
On Mistyâs next turn, she rolls a fail which makes it 2 failures to 1 success. Brennan mentions that a nat 1 counts as 2 failures and a nat 20 counts as 2 successes. Iâm sure that wonât be relevant later because you canât foreshadow things when dice rolls are completely random.
Misty fails on puppet again again and Titania goes full Wicked Witch of the West on her and starts Jonesing for those shoessss.
Emilyâs Emily(tm) move of the session is doing a flying leap at Titania, hitting her with a stunning strike and having Brennan retract the Box off Doom he was pulling out because she canât save when sheâs stunned. She just plummets out of the sky.
Don Confetti respecting the sacrament of marriage as he goes full Opera ghost and tries to garrote Sophie.
Ricky (still naked) grabs the crown from Titania, tosses it to Misty, and, with some improv and a good charisma roll, makes the show suddenly make sense to the very confused but entertained audience.
Iâm so glad that Murph decided to turn into a bear and that they made the Winterâs tale ref. I should have had faith in Brennan and Siobhan, the theater nerds. Exit pursued by a bear yâall.
Lou and Emily bonding over being proud of their die for rolling well when they lend it out for a big roll.
Really wish Pete had wild magic surged in this fight. Just to add that extra bit of chaos.Â
With a very good turn (no damage taken, no performances failed) Misty only has to avoid snake eyes to get through this turn. She leapfrogs over that low bar and rolls a nat 20, instantly fulfilling her win condition. At this point, the play is superfluous and Titania is still down.
âBrennan lost and now he knows reddit is gonna eat his ass.â
OK, remember how I said earlier that Misty seems like the kind of character you nudge a little temptation at just to spice things up? Yeah, her killing Titania and getting the crown of the Seelie Fae makes me a liiiitle apprehensive, but weâll see how that turns out.
âI killed my queen! This is America we donât have royalty here.â
âBear, I donât know who you are, but take me on your back, let me ride on stage.â âcreator of West Side Story, Stephen Sondheim
Misty charms the critic at the show to make sure they get a good review which is such a fae thing to do.
Kingstonâs clearly not loving attacking Don and Co. post âreal fightâ what with his whole Do No Harm thing (well, thatâs Drâs but same principle applies I assume) is a good character detail. For that matter, so is Ricky just taking Titaniaâs crown and not beheading her which he super could have done while she was down but it would have been very incongruous with everything else about him.
Brian âThis isnât Loony Tunesâ Murphy throws Sondheim as a projectile weapon at a pixie who snaps the pixieâs neck and then does a monologue at the audience.
I love it when someone rolls low on an insight check and Brennan gives them useless info and then they repeat it in their characterâs voice.
4 mins from the end of the ep, Siobhan realizes there are two Perrys in this story for the first time and has a bigger reaction to that than almost everything else in this ep except her nat 20.
Ricky looks for costume faun legs to cover his fully out dick instead of costume pants or even his own pants.
Misty starts glowing with reincarnation energy and she runs into her dressing room for privacy. Also, she still super hasnât told anyone whatâs going on. (ALSO, assuming sheâs gonna make the world think she died, itâs gonna be wild for the company of the show to have their leading lady put on the performance of her life and then die on opening night).
âWho am I to refuse a crown when itâs placed so deftly upon my head?â
You know that behind the scenes thing where Brennan is like, âYeah, I knew Siobhan was gonna steal that book,â? I got some of those vibes during the crown scene.
The implications of what Misty did are gonna be left until next ep but Brennan says something about her creating her own court and it looks like sheâs recruiting followers in the promo. IDK how I feel about that (these stories tend to have great power--especially tied to powerful magical items--as a corrupting force) but I am very excited to see how it goes down! See you then!
