Do you think Caesar and Joshua ever had any legitimate children, to official wives or concubines? I would imagine so, but at the end of the day our two interpretations of their characters and their motivations are probably wildly different.

I’d believe it of Joshua, less so of Edward. The character of Caesar in-game is defined largely by isolation and removal: maybe he has a wife or heir, but if he does, I would not place them anywhere near him. Edward severely devalues the position of parenthood as an emotional attachment within the community that revolves around him. He believes in the father as a tyrant, not as a leader. So when I write children for him, I tend to make them “bastards,” legally unrecognized and more or less strangers to him: which in the context of the Legion’s violence unto children renders him a violently neglectful deadbeat.

Concubinage is something I can picture him engaging in, though probably not publicly. Within cultures like this, wives are often assigned undue blame from swaying their husband’s bad decisions and exacerbating their negative qualities. Caesar needs to see himself as straight, but he’s also untrusting, paranoid and possessive. Thus, I would assume he maintains regular sexual relationships with women or femmes, but marriage is a step that he isn’t willing to take. Conversely, the community Joshua was born in placed great importance on the heterosexual family structure and condemned extramarital relationships. Maybe he had a wife and children, even if just for show. Maybe Edward cast them down when he excommunicated him.

Ilara woke slowly, her head buzzing with an unfamiliar pain. It took her a moment to blink through the pain, to realize that she was not in her own bed... looking around, it didn't even look like she was in her own castle. She sat up slowly, reaching for her head, she could feel blood caked into her hair, as the events of the previous night came back to her.

Men had broken into the castle. She remembered hearing the sound of fighting, and had gone to the nursery to get the children. While the guards were fighting, she and one of the nursemaids had hidden the children in a secret room in Maddox's study, but Ilara had to lock the door from the outside. They had caught her, but when she wouldn't reveal where the children were, they decided to take her instead. The king's wife wasn't quite as good a hostage as his children, they'd said, but hopefully they'd get some ransom. Then they'd knocked her out to keep her quiet.

She gulped in air as she realized the gravity of her situation... bars on the windows, and a thick chain wrapped around her ankle.... she was in some kind of dungeon. And if she had her guess, Maddox should be receiving a ransom note any time now.

Jena Bishop vs Ilara Joanne | Bellator 300

I don't know if I'd call her a dark horse, but there is some real potential for someone like Jena Bishop (7-0) to really do some damage in this PFL women's flyweight season. Bishop is a former world champion in no-gi BJJ as well as placing 3rd in the gi. She's one of the best accredited BJJ women in the sport right now and with how many grapplers there are in the PFL flyweight division, that could play to her advantage.

The 38 year old has a really big test ahead of her as she is set to face off with former UFC title challenger Taila Santos (20-3) at PFL 2024 #4 this Thursday (June 13).

Ilara got up off his desk, her skirts falling back into place, she rolled her eyes as she turned to the mirror to make sure that her hair wasn't out of place while he dressed himself again. "I will not follow you unless you give me cause," she protested, putting her hands on her hips as she turned back towards him. "But I will write to you everyday, to remind you why you must come home."

Maddox expected his nerves to calm the moment she agreed to stay, but no such relief came. It felt like a betrayal to use their children to convince her to stay when in truth, their daughters would be safe even if they were both gone. Pulling his pants back into place and righting the rest of his clothes, Maddox let out a long suffering sigh. "Fine, I will write to you every day. You will write me back so that I know you haven't decided to follow after me without cause!"
