Abbey Bartlet for the character questions thing. Please & thank you.
Thank you, friend! 💜💜💜💜💜💜
favorite thing about them: I love that she's a pint-sized, badass nerd, who's smart and witty and looks absolutely amazing wearing her tight skirts and high heels and showing (more than) "a little décolletage".
least favorite thing about them: That she isn't in every episode. Or her hair in late season 4/season 5.
favorite line: Oh, this one's difficult! Let's go with "No need to call the steward, I'm board certified in thoracic surgery."
brOTP: Abbey & Millicent Griffith, the S(t)urgeon General. Millie's Ellie's godmother and she remembers Jed's college grades, so they're obviously close friends. So much potential there but sadly, men don't care about writing female friendships 😭😭😭😭😭
OTP: Abbey/Jed Jed/Abbey, two halves of one heart, one soul and one giant, nerdy brain!
nOTP: Any ship that isn't Abbey/Jed. I don't ship either of them with anyone else, including Leo, together or apart, sorry.
random headcanon: Abigail Bartlet, M. D. has never seen Grease 😂😂 and her college GPA was higher than Jed's.
unpopular opinion: Abbey Bartlet isn't Betty Rizzo. No similarities there, except, y'know, the fact that they were both played by the same actress. Oh and I really like her post-Zoey's kidnapping arch.
song i associate with them: Wow, I'm terrible at this. Okay, so it's not even the whole song, just the chorus, and it's this particular live performance, but Lana's sad "Tell me I'm your national anthem" just transports me directly into the first half of season 5.
favorite picture of them: Look at my avatar 😊

Superlatives of my Stories: 2023 Edition
I stole this meme from @petralemaitre
Leitmotif of the year: You get to be a survivor of sexual assault! You get to be a survivor of sexual assault! You get an OT3 and a Found Family! Or ‘that is yours, I am not’ across multiple fandoms.
My best story of this year: I think probably There’s Blood (On The Side Of The Mountain) which is the West Wing ‘CJ was kidnapped not Zoey’ AU, written from the POV of an outsider OC - it unfurled exactly how I wanted it to - an atmosphere of ambiguity as to what happened, what’s happening and what’s going to - also very narrowly focused.
My favorite and/or truest story of this year: My absolutely favourite thing I wrote was a tie between two Grishaverse stories - a Hunger Games AU and Get Wrecked Tante Heleen (tm) - Never Again (It’s Not An Act Of Love) & Karma (Is My Family)
They are both stories about found families, about how the narratives of those who abuse and hurt you aren’t true, about love as partnership - all kinds of love as well, about the gift of choice. Also stabbing some fuckers.
Story of mine most underappreciated by the universe, in my opinion: I think they’ve all been incredibly appreciated considering - actually possibly uneasy (with the semi divine) which is about Rings of Power Gil-galad and his attitude towards Elronds biracial identity which wasn’t not me as a biracial person having Feelings about it.
I would also always always love more comments on the Tudors OT3 Verse. More content in the OT3 verse in general but I understand it’s niche content.
Most fun story to write: Every single bit of You Belong With Us which was an absolute joy - there was so much love and trust and happiness (and then an undertone of sadness at not being able to express that love openly that I hope came through as well)
Story with the single sexiest moment: For me personally it’s House This Love (Of Ours)
Most "Holy crap, that's wrong, even for you" story: Did I write Scarlet Pimpernel OT4 fic with a definite villain Chauvelin who is in love with both Blakeneys? Yes. Did I also manage to write (fictional versions) of Robert Dudley/Elizabeth I knife kink fic? Also yes. I maintain both of those are fine ;).
The Thomas Cromwell/Anne Boleyn/Henry VIII Harem AU is the most Dead Dove Do Not Eat in all honesty - I was having a lot of very personal trauma feelings in that one.
Story that shifted my own perceptions of the characters: I wrote the Bartlet Daughters in I Tried To Rewrite It (But I Can’t) and I think that really made me think about both Ellie and Elizabeth Bartlet in a way I never had before - even though it’s obviously an AU verse it got me to recognise things about them and about the way they approach their parents high profile in very different ways.
Hardest story to write: It could have been the Knife Kink fic (because kink (all kink) is a giant personal trigger for me) but I think it might actually have been the OT3 verse fic because there’s so much thought and preparation that went into it - though the actual writing of the story isn’t actually the hard part.
Biggest disappointment: have not in fact written more of Crown Of Ashes, the Tudors OT3 Verse AU AU of ‘what happens when Mary Tudor gets everything she thinks she wanted and it turns out it absolutely sucks and turns to ashes for her’
Biggest surprise: Did not expect to be writing knife kink and also did not expect to fall headfirst back into writing West Wing fic but for the latter I have to credit the lovely Discord People and also @miabicicletta in particular.
Most unintentionally telling story: It is almost certainly In Our Bedroom (After The War) or the giant Grishaverse Cuddle Pile ficlet.
Best title: Only Wore This Doublet (So You Could Take It Off) is the aforementioned Elizabeth I/Robert Dudley knife kink fic and honestly I am so proud of that title. A+ use of Taylor Swift lyric.
Story I haven't yet written, but intend to: The Sam/Donna/Josh fic told in social media posts.

randomized west wing fic: ellie bartlet + toby
ellie bartlet + toby ziegler, "i'm tired and i'm scared"
preview: Her dad’s greatest accomplishment was pretty much the worst day of her life, and Ellie’s really getting tired of pretending otherwise.
word count: 2k and change rating: gen warnings: zoey's kidnapping; this is basically an episode fic of the season 5 ellie episode i think its 5.14 or 5.16 i can't remember, the one with the muppets lmao pairings: background abbey/jed, toby/andy, zoey/charlie author's note: obsessed with how this series is literally just me writing character studies of the women of west wing who have under 10 minutes of screen time.
The muppets stick around for the press conference, but they’re gone before Ellie can get a picture with Elmo which is only a minor tragedy as far as she’s concerned. She’s always been more of a Fozzie Bear kinda gal.
“Are you sure there’s nothing I can do for you?”
Ellie sort of makes it a point - if not the guiding thesis of her entire existence as a First Daughter - to spend as little time as physically possible at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Like she told her dad earlier, this isn’t her world. She’s not one of them. Sure, she gets the gist of...politics and why it’s important and what he does...to an extent.
Like, he’s the President, it’s pretty much self-explanatory. He presides over things like the military and the free world, and well, muppets apparently.
But Ellie simply isn’t built for this. She’s terrible with faces and names and titles. She knows the name of senior staff, of course she knows that, and she knows Charlie and Donna and Carol and...yeah that’s pretty much it. She was semi-familiar with Hoynes’ staff but that was just because her mom dragged her to all those campaigning events. She’s never met the new VP, but she knows her mom can’t stand him, so she’s not exactly angling to rub elbows any time soon.
Ellie’s not built for politics, but at least it’s a mutually agreed upon detrimental relationship. She’s only had a handful of brush-ups against reporters or her dad’s opponents and they’ve pretty much all ended in complete and utter disaster.
Liz has managed to avoid the worst of it; Ellie can’t even think of a scandal that hit her beyond that whole alt-right Christian group mailing Annie some awful dolls or something. It was a while ago, though, pretty early on into the first term. And then Zoey of course is a natural at public life, all charm and wit and perfect smile and girl-next-doorsy cuteness. Christ, she was dating the Prince of France, or whatever the hell his title is - not that it matters much anymore.
Zoey’s been the perfect First Daughter, and even after the hell of the last few weeks, even after the PTSD and the therapy and their parents’ semi-almost-kinda-definitely-for-a-second-there divorce, even after all of that, Zoey’s somehow still leaps and bounds more poised and collected than Ellie could ever hope to be.
Ellie likes data, science, medicine, research, her lab - her sanctuary. Concrete numbers and self-evident truths with no room for political spin or lobbying. She’s at her happiest when she can go about her day undisturbed. Charting, grabbing lunch with her friends, finishing rounds early, pouring over Dr. Foy’s notes late into the night.
Normalcy.
Complete and utter normalcy, which isn’t something she ever thought of as a blessing until the inauguration. Starting medical school when your father is Governor isn’t ideal, but all it takes is a match with a hospital seven hours from New Hampshire and things pretty much sort themselves out. There’s no time to talk about things like hometowns and family and political affiliations when your pulling graveyard shifts.
Being the President’s daughter is a bear of its own, though. A secret service detail isn’t exactly subtle. She hadn’t really thought it through when her parents sat the family down to tell them about Leo’s insane idea. Even when the campaign took off, Ellie didn’t put much stock into it, just kept her nose in her books and tried to keep away from the reporters.
If she’s being honest, she didn’t really think he was ever going to win as bad as that sounds. She hadn’t given it so much as a thought, and boy did she regret that now. Liz had the wherewithal to get her affairs in order before everything got going, while Ellie just focused on specialties and post-docs. She never thought about what her life would look like if he won. She certainly didn’t consider the fact that it would mean a title of her own, secret service codenames, campaigning expectations, reporters camping outside her apartment day and night every time the NIH puts out so much as a press release on the common cold, and oh yes! Political kidnapping, that’s now something that’s on the table. Has been the whole time apparently.
Her dad’s greatest accomplishment was pretty much the worst day of her life, and Ellie’s really getting tired of pretending otherwise.
All of this is to say that while Ellie may not be an enthusiastic participant, she’s still a First Daughter and so she can tell when something’s out of place.
“No, that’s okay,” Ellie tells this lady for the third time, “Thank you though!”
The lady’s pretty, and she seems nice enough, but she’s in a miniskirt and a low cut blazer. It’s four in the afternoon in the West Wing, and she’s dressed like an Upper East Side high schooler. She really is nice though, Ellie can tell from the way she smiles as she sorts through the papers on Toby’s desk.
Toby’s always sort of scared Ellie. He’s never been anything short of professional towards her but he’s grumpy and prone to yelling, and Ellie never really knows what he’s talking about. Her father adores him, so does her mom, and oddly enough so does CJ.
Ellie loves CJ, she’s her port in the storm at the White House. The only one on staff that treats her like a normal human being and not a walking political timebomb. Josh is great, and you know not exactly tough on the eyes there either, but Ellie’s never seen him when he wasn’t one call away from hyperventilating. He stresses her out while CJ seems like someone Ellie’d like to have a wine night with.
And CJ loves Toby so Ellie guesses there must be something that she’s missing. Ellie’s clearly got this man all wrong if he can be stomping around the West Wing with an assistant dressed like this lady and nobody’s batting an eye.
“He should be here any minute,” the assistant smiles again. She’s awfully smiley, Ellie wonders if her cheeks hurt at the end of the day.
“You know what” Ellie dusts off her hands as she pulls herself off of Toby’s couch. She turns her back to the door as she pulls her coat on. ”I really do have to get back to my lab, I can just leave a message it’s honestly no big-”
“Hey, Ellie- woah! Didn’t mean to scare you.”
Toby’s normally angry and grumbling and shaking his head at whatever insufferable nugget of wisdom her father has managed to come up with. Toby normally is dark and brooding, and slightly off putting. The sulking cat to Josh’s hyperactive golden retriever.
And now he’s smiling at her with shining eyes.
His shoulders are relaxed, he looks good. Great, even. Happy. Right- The babies! She’s not sure if she has it right - honestly that whole week is a total blur lost to a haze of panic and dread and grief -, but she’s pretty sure that Congresswoman Wyatt had the babies the night Zoey was taken.
He named the little girl after the agent that died trying to protect Zoey that night.
Molly, Molly Wyatt-Ziegler.
“It’s okay,” Ellie laughs awkwardly. Everything she does these days feels awkward.
“What can I do for you?” He’s behind his desk, immediately demolishing the hard work his assistant put into organizing the stacks of paper.
“I just-” She coughs, again feeling uncomfortable. She shifts her feet and clears her throat.
She’s still shaking from earlier. Her stomach’s been flipping nonstop since the press ambush, and she somehow managed to get through a full statement on a podium without vomiting, but now, standing in her father’s staffer’s office, she thinks she might just keel over.
“I wanted to thank you,” She finally gets out.
Toby stops what he’s doing to briefly look up at her. He’s not smiling anymore, too focused on his tasks for that, but he nods cordially enough in her direction.
“My dad told me that you got stuck with sorting this whole,” Ellie waves her hands, “mess. And I just wanted to thank you for that,” She coughs again, nervous habit, “among other things.”
His pager beeps, but he doesn’t move from standing hunched impossibly over his computer. Moments later his phone rings loudly, startling her once again. It rings three times before Toby lets out a bellow for his assistant, who is apparently named Rina. She calls out an apology, though she doesn’t sound all that apologetic from where Ellie can hear, and takes the call from her desk outside.
“Among what other things?” Toby asks, now fiddling with his pager.
Ellie gulps before saying, “Well, um. You were good with the whole-” She loses her nerve, and rocks back on her heels.
This was such a stupid idea. She should’ve hightailed it out of here the second she was off the podium and never looked back. This is so bad, he’s just blinking at her owlishly and she’s probably beet red and sweating and God it’s pretty hot in this office now how did the guy in the Big Bird costume possibly get through this day when she can’t seem to manage 30 seconds.
“How are you holding up?” He asks sincerely, thankfully shifting his eyes away from her.
Silence hangs in the air as Ellie tries, without much success, to get her breathing under control. She bites at her lip for a moment. He begins typing.
“I’m tired,” she blurts out eventually, “and I’m scared. But that’s pretty much been my resting state since Dad won Illinois,”
Toby chuckles at that, and pulls out his wallet. He walks around his desk and hands her a photo of two babies in little hats.
“That’s been my resting state lately, too. The tiny hats help somewhat.”
She laughs at that, and tells Toby that his babies are beautiful.
She thanks him for keeping the wheels turning as their family fell to pieces. She thanks him for counseling her father, and for standing by him when he invoked the 25th. Ellie’s no communications expert, but she’s pretty confident that Toby’s gone above and beyond with the media responses and official language and everything else to keep the pressure off of the family as they work toward some form of new normal.
Toby may as well as single handedly wrote her father into the Presidency, but Ellie thanks him for helping her little sister in the ways he can.
She doesn’t stick around for much after that, quickly hands him back the photograph and waves Rina, miniskirt and all, goodbye. She considers stopping by Josh’s office, but a monsoon of tiredness suddenly crashes over her. She heads to the lobby, and is escorted away to the car without much fuss.
She should’ve said goodbye to her mom, should’ve stayed for dinner with her father, should’ve tried harder to get Dr. Foy a picture of Elmo - he has a four year old daughter who positively loves Sesame Street. There’s a lot of things she should be doing, but instead she rests her head against the cool glass of the backseat window and tries not to think about how it's bulletproof.
She’s tired and she’s scared, and she’s pretty sure that’s never going to change, or at least won’t anytime soon. But as she drifts off lulled by the steady hum of the engine, she finds her shoulders a little bit lighter.
It’s exhausting being a First Daughter, and it’s terrifying, and it’s dangerous, potentially deadly. But for every nightmare it brings, it also brings CJ, pulling a beautifully crafted statement seemingly out of thin air. It brings Charlie, the best son her father’s never had and whose leagues above every other schmuck Zoey’s brought home. It brings Rina who won’t rest until Ellie’s been properly greeted with tea, a book, a blanket, no seriously, is there anything at all I can get for you sweetie? It brings Josh who never stops to chat but always kisses her on the cheek and tells her she looks fantastic.
And it brings Toby, with his sad eyes and beautiful words and unwavering faith and above all his babies and their tiny, tiny hats.
Heavy is the head that wears the crown of First Daughter, but Ellie’s beginning to see the value of spreading the weight around.

West Wing Women. Ainsley Hayes and Joey Lucas are the BEST representation of women. They have their own voice and say what they mean. They have power and are yet compassionate. Ainsley's speech on why she is a Republican actually is what Republicans are MEANT to be. Brilliant writing and fantastic acting. Joey oozing confidence and accepting no crap. Just class.
This is really exciting for me because I think I've gotten...one other ask about the west wing before? So for that, I very much thank you because I am literally ALWAYS down to talk about my favorite tv show.
The women of the west wing are amazing. I totally agree about both Joey and Ainsley; I love them both so much. I LOVED Ainsley's dynamic with Sam and her introduction as a character is fucking iconic. I'm sad she left, but I would just LOVE to talk politics with her. She and I would disagree on some things, but her discussion of the ERA is what made me obsessed with the 14th amendment. (Also, Ainsley, Joe Quincy, and Arnold Vinnick are what republicans should be.)
And Joey, my love and my heart (also I just wanna mention Kenny, who is a gem). But Joey is just so smart and funny and insightful. She's always just like ahead of the game and knows what Josh needs before he's fully done asking for it. She's so smart and I love her and I wish she'd been on more often.
Okay I'm gonna talk about the other WW women for a sec.
No discussion of the WW women can take place without mentioning the inimitable CJ Cregg. She is smart, savvy and strategic and so caring. She's not perfect, and she's not meant to be, and I just really appreciate that she's not a Mary Sue. When she becomes CoS, she handles every challenge with grace and smarts, and hard work. As a woman in the workplace—and, frankly, in an Aaron Sorkin show—she deals with some sexism and harassment, and part of me is torn about it because while obviously, I hate that shit, it's also kinda realistic. I've experienced that kind of shit in a work environment, too, and watching her navigate it is really interesting, seeing which battles she picks and which she overcomes just by being better than the man who insulted her.
Now for Donna. She is so awesome, and watching her journey over time as she just BLOSSOMS and becomes confident and takes what she WANTS and gets away from Josh's office, she finally comes into her own. That scene at the end when she gets shown her new office makes me so emotional because she went from working at a tiny lil cubicle to having a gorgeous, large office of her own and working with the first lady. She's humbly brilliant and I adore her.
And Abbey Bartlet. She's also so smart and savvy, though I have a little gripe with her sometimes when she makes Jed's job harder. Ultimately, she wasn't elected, and while I'm fine with her having legislative priorities and pushing for policy, I think there are times she goes too far. But at the same time, I like that she's not perfect. I like that she pushes Jed to prioritize women more, and she's generally really supportive. And she's a great mother. And also, the staff can be kinda disrespectful of her. She's DR. Bartlet, and they call her Mrs. so often; she'd deserve that kind of respect even as an ordinary doctor, but Jed says she's a world-class surgeon. She's just as smart as Jed, and if she'd had political ambitions of her own I bet she'd have gotten really far if not been president herself.
I love all of the Bartlet daughters, but Ellie is my favorite. She's so smart and humble and relatable and her relationship with Jed is so interesting. I like Zoey, but I got frustrated with her for being with Jean-Paul, because fuck that guy. Also, I cringe so hard during that scene when Jean-Paul is debating the economy with Jed and she says "I love seeing my two men sparring." Like, *gags*
And Liz, oh poor Liz deserves so much better than Doug. Honestly, at first I thought people were too hard on him, but then when we found out he cheated I was like "oh FUCK that."
And Amy Gardner is so fun. She's also gorgeous and witty and smart and I love her dynamic with Josh. She knows what she wants and she goes for it, and I love when she fights for her goals.
Oh and you know who doesn't get nearly enough credit? Angela Blake. She gets such little time on the show and honestly, it sucks that she only comes on when Josh is slapped on the wrist before the shutdown. I wish she'd been brought back more or they'd found some other position for her so that she and Josh could do different but still important jobs.
Basically, the WW women are amazing and I love them.

for the au ask game, do I remember that you have a tww royalty au?? if not please talk about any tww au that you'd like,, your aus are always incredible!!! 👑
i love u so much you are the sweetest!!! this question is just super funny to me because the royalty au is 20k of my life and 50% of my brain space at all time, but i literally haven't talked about it all year and i frequently forget that. ANYWAY i will try to keep this brief even though i could talk about it for hours:
sam and josh are brothers. like... biologically, they are brothers. sam may be adopted i haven't decided but- sam is pretty much the golden boy, he's the perfect hair, blue eyes, very poised and perfect and sweet prince that every girl dreams of marrying. but after noah dies, he wants nothing more than to be king but he isn't able to take over because josh is the oldest son. and josh... doesn't want to be king but would rather die than ever tell his mom or leo that. also donna has always had a little crush on sam because it wouldn't be unreasonable if she ended up marrying him, so when josh comes along and she sees him for the first time it's like "oh, fuck, this is not what was supposed to happen."
so, the bartlets have five daughters- from oldest to youngest, it's liz, cj, donna, ellie, zoey. i wish i got to include the other three sisters like at ALL because i have so much love for them, but i HC that ellie likes girls (she likes mallory o'brien, more specifically, which they both know is a recipe for disaster). and ZOEY AND CHARLIE IN THIS AU honestly i love them so much i might just add in a scene with them because i feel like. what donna is to cjtoby in this au, zoey would be to joshdonna. and that gives me too many emotions.
donna is the biggest matchmaker and prankster in this entire story, she may be my favorite character in it because she's just so full of love for her family. and she definitely orchestrated millions of rom-com moments between toby and cj when they were younger, and continues to do so ten years later.
toby and donna were always very close and toby talked about donna to josh for years before they meet, which is why it's so easy for josh and donna to feel comfortable with each other. (since this probably doesn't make any sense, the bartlet family doesn't move into the palace and actually start ruling until cj is almost 18 and donna is 16. soon after, toby starts working for josh's family in a neighboring kingdom and doesn't talk to his best friend for four years.) but anyway during that time he keeps bringing up these random stories about donna and cj but since josh knows them as princess donnatella and princess claudia he doesn't exactly connect the dots until he actually meets them. (yes the "those stories would make me like you" quote is in the fic).
jed bought toby his first suit. that's it that's the whole thing. and this suit shows up at a very important part in the fic for the cjtoby of it all... this isn't going to matter to anyone but me and @aerielz but i'm okay with that.

Me thinking about the TWW Hunger Games characters in D2 interacting with other D2 Victors in @lorata verse especially because Abby decided to have children and in my head in D2 Victor Children Do Not Become Careers (like it is banned because I’m pretty sure Ellie Bartlet tried to sneak into the program because she desperately wanted to prove herself)
(I think Victors with children are really not that common anyway so it rarely comes up)

hey! i was wondering if u have any hcs u see tww cast, sexuality wise?
i mean i think they’re all gay but ill go into details lol if that’s what ur asking!
i think sam is queer, I just cant decide if I think he’s gay or bi or pan
I get a gay vibe
also literally it’s always him when they’re talking about LGBTQ+ issues; DADT, when charlie is getting interviewed by josh, he gets called a fairy by those dudebros in the ep with zoey’s panic button
he might be bi bc of lisa, and the chemistry he had with ainsley was NOT platonic
but I do get gay vibes from him so I can’t decide
also I think josh is pan?
i think when he was figuring out his sexuality in college he’d just experiment and try things and decide that gender doesn’t actually matter that much to him?
like
he just likes pretty people, period - literally all the people he dated were gorgeous; donna? gorgeous. amy? i love her. sam? he’s a pretty man (did they date in canon? no. do i care? not at all)
cj!! my love!!
i think she’s bi (I feel like I'm saying all these people are bi but that might be me projecting)
it might literally bc I think she’s gorgeous but cmon cj/toby is not platonic, at least not totally, and I kinda think cj and donna hooked up once? is that weird?
also @claudiasjeancregg has a great series about cj/toby/andy that’s gotten me on the bi train
cj doesn’t hide hide it but she’s not gonna make it obvious
(it’s the early 2000s and she’s in a male-dominated field, she’s already kinda the only woman in the room. I don’t think she’d want to be cast as the gay woman in the room, even though she says it doesn’t matter in that ep where ppl think she’s gay)
toby is...i can’t decide
I honestly can’t see him as queer
idk why
I guess he’s straight? he’s straight
I still love him
if you disagree pls let me know why
leo and bartlet!!! they’re queer
they never named it specifically but they know they like more than one gender
cmon leo and bartlet had a thing that is totally why they stayed friends - their paths would not have crossed that much, why the hell would they be bffs? bartlet was a congressman and a governor ig but he in academia for a while too and leo was in the military and the private sector before he was chairman of the dnc and labor sec’y so. other than the personal aspect, they wouldn’t really work that closely together, so they must’ve had a hell of a first impression
abbey knows it happened and she constantly makes jokes about leo stealing her husband
leo has an on and off again thing with marbury
it’s scratching an itch more than it is anything with feelings but
yeah
abbey is pan
I love her
she tells jed on their first date and tells him if he has a problem he can go screw himself
jed stammers and comes out too
and they’re both like ‘oh. ok. cool’
they go to pride parades with liz, ellie, and zoey when the girls were kids
someone uses a picture of them at a parade to ask if he’s gay and bartlet’s just like ‘im showing my support to the gay community and I'm not gonna raise my children to be homophobic bigots. next question.’
neither leo, abbey, nor bartlet ever come out
but they’re happy
I'm considering if they ever had a poly thing but idk
lemme know what yall think?
donna!! my lovely lady!!
i think she’s a lesbian (@tunennbee and i have talked about it!)
freeride is still a man
after that disastrous relationship she decides to try women bc she was like ‘maybe the reason that sucked wasn’t just because he was an asshole. let’s try something different’ and she was curious even before that
she decides that even though that whole relationship with dr. freeride sucked, the thing that was missing wasn’t just the fact that he was a dickhead. it was also the fact that men didn’t really appeal to her.
she tries men one more time with cliff and she tells him at the beginning and he’s like ‘cool. if nothing else i’ll get a meal and some companionship  instead of crashing on my couch at one am with cspan’.
she’s like ‘i get that!’
literally no tww character has a healthy work-life balance
after that date with cliff she decides ‘nope, not for me’
i also think she tells ainsley when ainsley tries to set donna up with cliff
‘ainsley, I'm not exactly straight. ill go, because i want to be sure, but you should know.’
ainsley’s cool with it
i maintain that ainsley and donna had a stronger relationship that was offscreen bc people don’t set up someone who’s only sort of a friend with  old friends on dates
so i think ainsley knew that donna was questioning, or at least would be open to going on a date
and i think they slept together once and was no ‘yeah not going anywhere else’ but i think they enjoyed themselves
hope you enjoyed anon! lemme know what you think :)

I ADORE Nina Siemazsko for saying that she played Ellie Bartlet as gay from the very start. And it was completely undirected by anyone in charge, it was just based on her own reading of the character. A reading that I wholeheartedly agree with

Top 5 West Wing guest stars/recurring characters!
Ooh thanks for the question! <3 This isn’t particularly in order: 1. Ron Butterfield Ron’s just such a steady and comforting presence... the ideal professional and competent Secret Service director, yet with soft and compassionate vibes as well. I love that nothing too bad happened to him and that he was there throughout the whole series 2. Joey Lucas (+ Kenny Thurman) Another character I’m very grateful appeared throughout the whole series. She was just so fun and smart. I love her friendship with Josh and that it continued to the point he involved her in the Santos campaign when he was isolated from everyone else. Kenny has a similar energy to Ron Butterfield of being both very professional and very lovely, it would have been fun to get to know him better but I also liked that he was just there as such a reliable friend and support for Joey and everyone else. Although my favourite Joey Lucas scene is probably actually the one without Kenny, when she and Josh talk at the airport in 2x20! 3. Nancy McNally Actually I think Nancy also has the same vibe I’m talking about with all these recurring characters... consummate professionalism combined with real kindness and compassion (and she’s another character I’m grateful nothing happened to). I love her scene with Sam in 2x16 as well as her general dry humour and strong presence. 4. Ellie Bartlet She’s so sweet and I love her complicated but loving relationship with Jed... I love the balance between her being shy and unsure and yet being able be brave and do her press conference and stand up to her president dad for what’s right with the Surgeon General for example. She stands out as quite unique for being less outwardly confident than almost every other character in the show, but she owns it.
5. Colin Ayres Maybe a controversial choice idk? But knowing comfortably Josh/Donna was endgame, I liked Colin and I kind of wanted/expected them to do a bit more with him (like everything about Gaza tbh...) and had been wondering if he would show up again (at least Josh kept mentioning him which I liked!). I feel like at least one of Donna’s relationships could have had a bit of a longer staying power, even Jack (who was definitely my least fave compared to Colin and Cliff, though I adore his interactions with Josh in Arctic Radar) became told not shown after he and Donna got together and through their break up lol. But I guess the show wasn’t actually just about Donna’s love life... Honorable mentions: Stanley Keyworth, Admiral Fitzwallace, Ginger, Margaret, Ronna Beckman, Joe Quincy (this is probably just my weakness for Chandler talking... the inevitable day I give into watching Studio 60 for him and Brad creeps ever closer) Put “top 5” anything in my ask!
