October Movie Journal — Day 7

The Blob (1988)

Overall thoughts: Wow that was actually really bad. As I confessed earlier tonight, I actually really like the original film and it kind of freaks me out despite the “outdated” effects (which I love btw), but all the changes in the remake to try to make it scarier/more modern (for the 80s) made it less original and more convoluted. The design of the titular Blob is a blatant ripoff of The Thing (1982) instead of just. being a Blob. They took a simple monster movie plot and somehow fucked it up. There’s government guys in hazmat suits? Idk. The only redeeming part of this movie is Shawnee Smith

Did I enjoy it: No

Would I recommend it: Absolutely not

Reminds me of: just watch the original 1958 movie. Or actually Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) basically starts with the same premise and it’s a much, much more entertaining movie

hilarious that he quotes a self proclaimed reformed serial killer who was talking to a specific ancient group of people in order to somehow condemn people living their lives as themselves, while he himself doesn’t even live a christly life. jesus wouldn’t tell women the world is lying to them that they can do anything they put their mind to. but, then again, even jesus wasn’t a christian by modern standards. he wasn’t even a christian back then. he was literally jewish. men like harry buttcrack use the excuse of holiness and god in order to justify attacking things that they feel uncomfortable for liking, and that’s honestly the least ‘manly’ thing he could do. jesus said to turn the other cheek. it was PAUL condemning everyone and their mother. man needs to read his bible.
