I’m also completely hung up on the mention of the meeting they had in Mexico? Because that was after Daniel hit rock bottom in Cota and the weekend he had that brilliant drive (glimpses of his old self) where he built up the gap after he got the penalty?

I’m sorry but I don’t believe for a second that meeting was about Daniel coming to do marketing duties for them for a year. Christian told him to come home, that they believed in him and they could fix this. Even putting up on the sim right after Abu Dhabi, why the urgency?

This has ALWAYS been the plan.

i mean based on how fucking burnt out daniel looked towards the end of last year, i'd absolutely believe that it WAS primarily about this third driver pr/marketing/sim/reserve role, giving him time off while still staying connected to the sport etc etc etc. but at the same time, i wouldn't be surprised at all to find out that there were hints towards a potential future for him within the team in some capacity or that he took the role knowing that may have been the case

alright here's my idea - an au where jayvik meet as kids, with viktor working for a street magician, rigging all the fake tricks behind the scenes, and jayce as a little magic fanboy 🪄✨

some thoughts on this au:

jayce has been obsessed with magic acts ever since his life was saved by a sorcerer. there's a new performer in town who can do tricks no one else can, and jayce in convinced he must be the real deal. one day he sneaks backstage in the hopes of finding evidence of real magic, but finds viktor instead, who he assumes must be the magician's apprentice!

viktor is torn because he doesn't want to ruin this kid's enthusiasm, or risk losing his job by revealing the truth. but he also... really doesn't want to be a wizard. so he comes clean. (lol)

jayce is a little bummed to find out it's not real, but when viktor shows him how the practical effects work, jayce becomes enchanted once more. they look so convincing!! technology that can replicate magic?? he thinks that's brilliant.

from then on viktor has a little tag-along at all of their shows, and jayce even starts calling himself viktor's apprentice. viktor's embarrassed, obviously, but also undeniably charmed. he and jayce become friends, him teaching jayce about engineering and jayce (trying to) teach him about the arcane.

they are earth shatteringly adorable the entire time 😔

What made me happy today: Learning about Mi Teleférico, the public transit gondola system that services the mountainous metropolitan region of La Paz, Bolivia.

It's the kind of solution uniquely fitted to its circumstances:

A city of less than a million people with immense differences in elevation

A predominantly poor and Indigenous labour force relegated to physically inaccessible neighborhoods, who mostly found employment in more affluent central neighborhoods

A brief economic boom in prosperity

Democratic socialist governments very aware they could be voted out in the next election, who prioritized a policy that could be implemented before the other side got a chance to cancel it

A technological solution that could do the job brilliantly.
