Andor s2 ep1 thoughts (no spoilers for other two episodes plz)
• Cassian’s little monologue about overcoming fear to the fellow rebel was such an amazing choice to start this season. I suspect that this will be the central thesis of this season, that you rise above your fear when you meet yourself by no longer allowing evil to grow
• Similarly, ep1’s focus on Cassian being captured by other rebels, who both bc their own discohesion and the discohesion of the rebellion in general interfere with his mission and lose themselves to their own squabbles. This is a snapshot of the exact issues the larger Rebellion is undergoing at this time
• You have no idea how glad I am that Cassian found the others from Ferrix and lives with them when he’s not off rebelling.
• Finally some fucking explanation of the fucking Ghormans. They were name dropped throughout s1 as a planet Mon Mothma was trying to protect from unfair legislation, but we never got an explanation. Now we know it’s about wanting to mine the planet into extinction.
• I feel bad for poor Leida.
• Luthen was not subtle about asking where that Naval guy was being moved to but I think that’s just the persona he has created.
• Kleya is a bitch and I love her. The “two single women” comment seemed like a jab especially with how Vel reacted. Her and Cinta seemed to be going separate directions in s1, are they broken up or is Cinta dead?
• I need to figure out how this fits in with Rebels timeline wise. Mon Mothma still being a public figure and the ununified nature of the rebellion is confusing me at 4 BBY

Thinking thoughts about Cassian saying he has been in this fight since he was six. The kid version of him on Kenari appears closer to like 9-11ish so presumably he's counting back to whatever event (mining disaster or armed confrontation) left his tribe completely orphaned. And I'm just. Having emotions about Cassian coming to the point in his life where he sees all the things that happened to him and all the things he did after as being part of the fight. He's not wrong, but the Cassian we see through all of S1 of Andor definitely doesn't have that perspective.

Cassian
‘Melshi is on side but it’s crucial to keep working on Kino. I need him to listen.
I know about the Empire now. I know how they work, and it’s just like what I said to Nemik. They don’t care enough to learn. They don’t care enough to listen either.
The plan is a good one. Birnok listened to me and we’ve been plotting and sawing… I have kept despair away through keeping busy, and I realise now why that is: I have hope. I think I’ve always had it. Perhaps this time I can use it, well.
I’m listening.’

Kino
‘They doubled everyone’s number, last month. But mine was getting low so I thought - I can take it.
I kept discipline, order and peace. Quashed the doubters, pretending it was for everyone’s morale.
In the last few days, maybe more, it’s become about clinging on to my faith.
But I can’t keep it anymore. Doubt has turned to cold knowledge, and there’s no comfort there.
I give Keef his answer, on the third time of asking.
I have found something new to believe in.
There’s only one way out. I’m already dead.
But we all are, if we do nothing.’

Andir s2 ep 1-3
The new season of Andor follows up on the plot threads started in the first season. Compared to the beginning of s1, this first 3-episode segment is much better, mostly thanks to the right pacing. I hope this trend continues and the pacing issues from s1 will be entirely gone in s2.
Spoiler talk below:
In terms of the story, Cassian steals a prototype TIE fighter. I loved the scene of him just demolishing the hangar and the escape. That was fun. His troubles don't end as instead of the guy who was supposed to take the TIE away, he runs into a group of stranded rebels who capture him, thinking that he's an Imperial pilot because of his getup. The group lost their leader and instead of working together, they start infighting over who should become the new leader. They don't even fight about some ideological differences, just the position. The message here is clear - it shows the state of Rebellion in general, how fragmented it is and in need of a clear leadership and direction.
This ties in with Mon Mothma, the future leader of the Rebel Alliance, and Luthen who both go to Chandrila for Mon Mothma's daughter's wedding. It turns out the loud celebration is only a semi-good place for secret conversations. Mon Mothma is plagued with too many issues at once, personal and connected to Rebellion. I think the actress portrayed Mon Mothma's rising distress and emotional state very well. When she talked with Luthen for the last time, she looked like a corpse. On top of the wedding she didn't want to happen, her friend Tay has doubts about their Rebel funding scheme because he lost some money. I'm not entirely sure, but it seems that Mon Mothma knows that Luthen is going to deal with Tay (possibly kill him?) and that's why she snapped in the end and got drunk? But she kept saying that she was going talk to Tay on Coruscant, so maybe she was trying to stop Luthen from taking action.
Krennic appears again, introducing a new storyline - the Imperials need to mine energy resources from planet Ghorman and he assembles a council to brainstorm a plan. Dedra Meero is part of this group and has a brilliant idea - if there are Rebels on Ghorman, the Empire can justify taking any action they like there. In a way, Rebels are needed as the enemy to fight and a convenient excuse to exploit planets and take away freedom. Pretty ironic for Empire.
Syril Karn returns too, he's still working with the standardization department and he's way too serious and intense about his job (lol). He's in a relationship with Dedra, they live together and his mom finally comes over to meet Dedra. The sequence when they were preparing for the visit like it was going to be a battle, that was great 🤣 The mom should be true evil antagonist of this show lol. I really like how Dedra was so well-prepared and gave an offer that Eedy couldn't refuse. She really cares about Syril ;)
Cassian's friends were hiding on some farm planet, but they didn't have documents, so they were in trouble when the Imperial inspection came out of nowhere. One Imperial officer was a sex predator, which wasn't really a surprise, of course some of them would use their position of power to prey on women. I'm a bit sad Brasso died, he seemed cool. Cassian's return and shooting down the Imperials with his TIE fighter was very satisfying.

persona au(?) for Mianite
Tom & Jordan are both wildcards
Jordan’s relationships with others lean more towards a ‘i scratch your back, you scratch mine’ foundation (p5 confidants)
Tom’s is more problem solving (or, more in his case, causing) for others (p4 social links)
Some bonds can overlap and others don’t, for instance, Tom has a s.link with Capsize but Jordan doesn’t not. Same thing with Redbeard and Alister, Tom does not bond with them.
Jordan (Fool):
Magician - Tom
Lovers - Sonja
Chariot - Tucker
Temperance - Wag
Devil - Redbeard
Justice - Andor
Priestess - Ianite (s1)
Death - Ianite (s2)
Moon - Martha
Star - Ianita
Hanged Man - Alister
Hermit - Dianite (s2)
—————————
Tom (Fool):
Magician - Tucker
Lovers - Jordan
Sun - Sonja
Fortune - Wag
Strength - Modesteps
Hanged Man - Nade
Justice - Capsize
Emperor - Steve
Hierophant - Mot
Death - Dianite (s1)
Devil - Dianite (s2)
Hermit - Ianite (s1)

what’s your favorite andor quote?
I’kk go first. Mine is not said by or even to Andor but said by Luthen Rael.
“Has anyone ever made a weapon that wasn’t used?”
Though the quote kind of explains itself, I love how it illustrates the subtleties of wisdom and nuanced political undertones of this show. The writing and cinematography couldn’t have been better. I like that this show wasn’t so focused on being driven by a plot or showcasing events but it told the story of a handful of people who were very much human. Each person had strengths, passions, motives, methods, quirks, flaws, and it was absolutely beautiful. The worldbuilding was also fantastic, but I’ll go into that later.
I also love the subtle reminder laced in this question. It’s almost as if it’s directed to the audience simultaneously, and I think this is important to remember. Experiments are never left in the lab. Innovations are never abandoned on the kitchen table. Even if good men discard them, an evil heart will find a weapon and use it.

Andor S1 episode 2 drabbles
Tumblr media
Luthen
“On a world of scrap, I’ve found him.
Now a wanted man.
I certainly want him. Badly - I’m taking the risk, and getting him myself.
I thrive on desperation.
His. Makes manipulation so much easier.
And mine. This needs to work.
He’s the tool I need. The missing piece. He’s proved his value already. Can pilot, steal, is multilingual. A quick learner. Versatile.
And with smouldering hate and rage. Just needs a little fuel to fire him up. A little targeting.
A valuable asset. For the task that needs to be done.
Then he’s disposable.
Meanwhile - he’s scrap worth finding.”

Like, yes. At its core, Star Wars is and has always been a story about fighting fascism, which in 1977 was fighting Obvious Nazi Stand-ins, because apparently back then we could all agree they were in fact bad. The Empire Strikes Back is generally figured as the best OT movie because it takes a darker and more emotionally wrenching tone to the first movie's goofy fairytale/fantasy elements. Return of the Jedi combined that with still some goofy elements (i.e. Ewoks), a genuinely incredible arc with Luke/Vader, and a happy ending. Then all the Extended Universe books, of varying quality and interest, which I read like crazy as a teenager. I loved those things. Star Wars is absolutely one of the Formative Medias for me for many reasons.
Then, well. The prequels. Which WANTED to be Shakespearean pathos, but didn't have the talent to pull it off, even if there were isolated moments of competence and emotion. The sequel trilogy, about which the less said the better, but I will never forgive it and I hope it dies in a fire. (Okay, I did have to say something about it.) The endless Disney Plus fanservice shows that stacked up like kudzu and were uh, also bad. With the exception of Kenobi, My Beloved, which I loved the shit out of for pretty much the same reasons I loved the Revenge of the Sith novelization, they're just... eh.
Then we had Rogue One, obviously acknowledged as the best of the Disney Star Wars movies, not least because it actually had something to say and wasn't drowned in about ten levels of algorithmized corporate nostalgia fanservice that by and large, composes much of the new Corporate Star Wars. The thing is, yes, the OG Star Wars was about fighting Space Nazis, but there has been so much absolute dreck since then, it kinda felt like the Star Wars universe had been a) mined to death and b) was devoid of the ability to say anything relevant or critical or authentic. It was all just an endless self-referential series of cash cow nostalgiabait supposed to crank out money for the Almighty Disney, and thus stripped of its ability to be art, especially meaningfully antifascist art.
Now, I'm only 8 episodes through s1 of Andor, but I can already tell that whoever made and wrote this show Understood The Fucking Assignment, and everyone in my notes is like "yeah somehow they actually Do Not Fuck Around even less in s2, if that's possible." I did watch a bit of the early episodes a while ago and could tell they were interesting, but didn't get hooked at the time and moved onto something else. But I came back to them now, in the year of our fascist orange fuhrer 2025, and I could tell at once that they actually had something to say re: this whole nightmare situation, and it was both important and necessary.
So yes, here I am, genuinely but pleasantly stunned that A Disney Star Wars Show, which overall has generally involved vapid corporate fanservice that somehow also manages to ruin everything good about the original (LOOKING AT YOU AGAIN, SEQUEL TRILOGY!) is actually... Good. And not just good, but something that I would go so far as to call essential viewing for our /waves hand/ everything on fire. A piece about antifascism that is not afraid to go for the throat and explore it in a way that even A New Hope, with its goofy space fantasy Hero's Journey spaghetti-western-samurai general shtick didn't really do? Like, I wanna think about it. I wanna dig my teeth into it. I have said "oh shit" out loud at multiple moments wherein it yet again became inescapably clear how much they were not, nor evidently had they ever been, Not Fucking Around.
I did see that Rogue One was at the #1 spot on Disney+, so evidently everyone finished Andor and had to rush to rewatch it. And frankly, yet another series tailored to a single character who only appears in one New Disney film and then dies in that one would seem to be the last thing anyone needs in this oversaturated media-remake landscape, but somehow it has, as noted, managed to be both art and art that is brave, good, and necessary. I still don't understand it, but yknow. It’s nice to know it's still out there.
No but really though, I don't understand how one of the most nuanced and gripping fictional portrayals of fighting fascism to appear in recent years is. A Disney Star Wars show.

I just finished Andor S1 & holy fuck, all the feelings, all of them!
I don't like how some are weighing this show against the others because they each have qualities I think are relevant and I prefer the imperfections in the SW universe at this point, but I definitely can agree that this one takes the cake when it comes to writing, structure & design. It legitimately makes me want my favorite SW movie to have a happy ending instead to get more of the character...that's big. Also makes me wanna take a lesson from the writers and buy all the jackets and robes in that show. And the quotes, holy sh*t the quotes just kept coming. If my brain wasn't already so full with irl stuff I'd actually write my proper full thoughts/review/analysis about it and the small things I noticed.
TBOBF & this have definitely made me wanna write again.

i actually think about this a lot so!!! apologies if this gets a bit long
i'll start with ianite bc that's a bit easier for me to explain. to me, the biggest difference is the level of chaos. s2 ianite, as well as her followers, were a lot more outwardly chaotic and destructive. we see it with ianite herself, burning down the tree in katsir in a fit of anger. we see it with jordan when he blew up the taint monster despite everyone telling him not to. we see it with andor, with much of his arc having the underlying themes of being looser with rules and forging one's own path. and of course, we see it with martha in many ways, but i think most importantly, with her business with dianite.
so when i go to assign a character s1 or s2 ianite, i try to think of how they attempt to establish justice and/or balance. roier, for example, is a lot more methodical. he had an entire multi-step plan to get his revenge on spreen, and tends to overall prefer staying low. he still gets his hands dirty, but he doesn't like making it obvious, being much more outwardly calm with his plans. he likes keeping things close to his chest, which i see as mirroring s1 ianite's calmer demeanor and how despite being a major player, she mostly worked in the shadows compared to the others.
cellbit is much more s2 aligned to me because he's a lot more in your face, for lack of a better term. take the vivo incident, for example. while he had an initial plan, he tossed it all aside because he saw an opportunity and took it without a second thought, completely changing the playing field at the time. he's much more impulsive. he puts himself in the forefront and tosses himself into things, often without realizing the full consequences. he very much feels like the type of guy to strike down a tree because it angered him by being a smartass.
dianite is . . . trickier. we didn't really see s2 dianite in his prime, and most of what we know is from stories as opposed to physically seeing it happen, like we do with mianite and ianite's changes. funnily enough, i think he and ianite are swapped in my mind. s2 ianite and s1 dianite are the more chaotic, impulsive decision makers, while s1 ianite and s2 dianite are the more man behind the curtains, willing to take their time type of characters. s1 dianite throws himself into things often for the fun of it, and while the same can be said about s2 dianite to an extent, his feels, funnily enough, more ordered. he's more organized chaos. s1 dianite wants power, and is willing to destroy anyone and anything in his path to get it. s2 dianite wants power, and is willing to team and align himself with anyone to grow his empire (see: him wanting to return to s1's world and fill in as dianite there).
i think we also see it really well with the difference between farmer steve and tom. tom nearly instantly gets himself banished for his bullshit. steve operated for years as a dianitee in secret, which can likely partially be attributed to the different political environments between realities, but it's still noteworthy enough on its own i think. steve was willing to hide in the shadows for years in order to execute his plans. tom was more impulsive. steve was a ticking time bomb, while tom had already gone off.
characters that like are chaotic for the sake of it get s1 dianite. vegetta and willy with their mines, foolish and bad for their lies and overall tomfoolery. bad, i think, is a good example, because while he sometimes has a reason to act and destroy in the way he does, he also just thinks it's fun. he likes deceiving people and pulling pranks and causing chaos. maybe he wouldn't go to the same extremes as he does when he does have a reason. but he'd still do some things for purely shits and giggles.
the easiest s2 dianitees to align for me are the businessmen. a character has a deep connection to some sort of business or monopoly? instant s2 dianitee. that's why i assigned pierre to s2, as well as his overall chaos (furry club, gegg, etc), because of his wine business and his dedication to the business world. it's also why i believe c!schlatt is like. THE perfect s2 dianitee, but that's the story for another day.
Hey tumblr user Icarus, I saw you talk a bunch about Mianite so now I am enabling you into a qsmp Mianite au sorry not sorry
What do you think everyone’s deity affiliations would be, I’ll list a few I think might fit:
Phil, Cellbit, maybe Roier??? - Ianite
Mike, maybe Vegetta?? - Dianite
Foolish - tends towards Dianite but switches affiliations like changing clothes
Étoiles - S1 Mianite? The Feds are definitely very S2 Mianite coded but there’s a few islanders who are probably Mianitees but practice / lean more towards S1 Mianite’s principals
OH U HAVE OPENED SUCH A FLOODGATE HOLD ON…..
s1 mianite: quackity, arin, forever, etoiles
s1 dianite: willy, mike, vegetta, badboyhalo, foolish*
s1 ianite: roier, pac, bagi
s2 mianite: the federation, el q
s2 dianite: fit, baghera, pierre
s2 ianite: jaiden, phil, cellbit, tubbo
*as you said, foolish changes affiliations as he pleases. it’s more accurate to say he’s unaffiliated but he asks dianite for favors for stupid bullshit so often that he’s an honorary follower atp
for the islanders i didn’t include it’s largely bc i don’t know enough about them with the EXCEPTION of antoine bc that bitch is just a wizard 2 me.
in depth ramblings for some of them under the cut bc i’m So So mentally ill about mianite related assignments. i may assign the eggs their own gods later so don’t worry i haven’t forgotten about those little guys
in my heart of hearts i know logically qtubbo should be under like, s2 dianite at the least. but i’m my heart of hearts i also cannot bring myself to make him anything other than an ianitee. it feels Wrong.
i think creating parallels between the different gods is fun, hence why normal q and el q are both different types of mianitees and jaiden+roier+cellbit are different types of ianitees
jaiden is like. the perfect ianitee. she’s already purple coded sure but you take into her being charlie’s lawyer AND how she tries to stand up for the census bureau and make people see its side. punches wall. she is so so balance to me she just wants them all to be on even ground
i gave pac ianite bc he has the same mentality as jordan in which he doesn’t see any value in himself without the other half of his duo with him LMAO
phil gets s2 ianite bc of all his attempts to get the eggs back by attacking the federation gives the same vibes as jordan attacking the taint to get ianite back. who cares about the consequences they want their loved ones and will do Anything to get them back, no matter who gets hurt
