Lowk SOTR makes the series worse and people praising it like it’s a puzzle piece are morons who can’t understand how retcons nor narratives work.
Like that it has currently 4.7 Stars on Goodreads is insane to me, like....you guys have no issues whatsoever with this book...like really? Even from just a "technical" stand point with the prose, dialogue and pacing??? (Score will probably change soon in like 6 months or so, because a lot of those 5 star reviews came in before the book was even out but still)
But yeah this being the "missing puzzle piece that explains everything" is just....not true? The story works fine without it. Like even TBOSAS added more interesting thing to story to see the early years of the games. And a deeper look into Snow as a character because from the books alone, we know nothing about him, so getting inside on him was interesting.
Honestly main reason I liked TBOSAS even as a concept is because this was a prequel nobody asked for, so it felt like truly the quote people constantly throw at Collins with "I only write when I have something to say" But yeah back to SOTR, I will just say.... not everything needs an explanation, especially small mundane things. Like what did it really add to the story learning that the "Sweetheart" nickname is actually a super tragic reason behind it and it's because Katniss reminds Haymitch of a dead girl he never mentions in the trilogy
Like that Haymitch has this connection with Katniss before even getting to know her kind of ruin the relationship for me, I've always liked the idea that he finally got out of his self pitying spiral of alcoholism, because he realized he truly had a fighter in his hand and someone he saw himself in and getting the chance to save a younger version of himself. That was at least my take on them.
BUT NO, she is actually the daughter of his best friend he never mentions to her, like even him finding some connection with her because she had Maysilee's pin is more meaningful because that is established in the main books and we the reader can just put those two things together.
How does it make Haymitch a better character if the only reason he bothered to finally try was because of Katniss being someone he should care about, idk can't people just care about each other for being themselves instead of it being because of some past relationship
Don't know if I'll go as far as to say everyone who enjoyed the book are morons, but I think some of them will probably benefit from actually thinking more critically about the media they enjoy Ironically enough
#what I've learned is that TOFS would have been so much better if Cass was like a distant cousin to Sienna and that's why Maureen even tried#just so much better of a narrative and their relationship would have been so much deeper /j#anti sotr#yeah this is negative enough to warrant that tag#sotr thoughts#answering stuff

Writing Tips #2 - Lighting
You ever sit there for half an hour trying to think of another way to say "this surface is bright?" Yeah, me too. Well, no more! Without further adieu, let's talk about lighting. Below is a quick list thrown together to help make describing light, objects affected by light, or the absence of light easier to describe when setting a scene.
Bright
Ablaze, aglow, beaming, blazing, blinding, bright, brilliant, flaming, glaring, glowing, radiant, vivid.
Dark
Abyssal, caliginous, dark, dingy, dusky, gloomy, ill-lit, inky, jet-black, moonless, overcast, pitch black, shadowy, shady, starless, sunless, tenebrous, unlit, unilluminated.
Dim
Bleary, blurred, cloudy, dreary, dusky, faded, faint, foggy, fuzzy, gloomy, gray, lackluster, murky, opaque, overcast, pale, shadowy, shady, tarnished, unclear.
Dull
Ashen, cloudy, colorless, dead, dismal, drab, dreary, dusky, faded, flat, hazy, indistinct, lackluster, low, matte, mousy, muddy, murky, muted, obscure, opaque, plain, subdued, toned-down, unlit.
Shiny
Burnished, crystal, dazzling, flickering, glassy, gleaming, glimmering, glinting, glistening, glittering, glossy, jeweled, polished, satiny, sheeny, shimmering, shining, silvery, sparkling, twinkling.
With these in mind, hopefully, none of you will struggle like I have :P As always, have a wonderful day! I hope this helps <3

just finished listening to episode 34 of worlds beyond number, "something to remember you by," which is the end of arc 3 of the wizard, the witch, and the wild one, and i feel sick from how incredible it was. the physical reactions my body made to some of the words and music in this podcast really took me by surprise. i'm still reeling.
some thoughts:
i'm so happy that suvi is questioning the citadel, her reaction to silver's letter was inspired, and i LOVED her interactions with the quartermaster. she's so clever and intimidating (holy shit that was HOT), but i'm worried about what's happening to silver. i have an inkling that the witches may have already started making moves alongside the man in black, and i wonder how that will affect suvi going forward. and going to try and save silver before returning their "precious cargo" to the citadel... i hope suvi can keep questioning, and that whatever she faces, she doesn't let the justification machine run its course any longer.
eursulon meeting up with tefmet was really cool. i enjoyed the return of the strongest man in silbury immensely. it was extremely funny. and then, when eursulon asked to help and succeeded on his persuasion checks, it was solemnly touching. i love eursulon's power being in steadfast support and protection, and how to him, it's not about opposing the citadel in its entirety, it's about saving spirits, great and small, from those who would use them. and that's something he can do while still protecting his true friends.
ame let the chaos OUT this episode, and it was delightful and nerve wracking and thrilling to listen to. she's very bossy and it's so funny to hear how immediately eursulon goes along with it, despite not knowing what "it" is. growing up watching grandma wren, she seems to have gained a natural authority that makes people who love her listen to her when she asks them to perform innocuous menial tasks. but that's also interesting, because her chaos is focused, if imprecise. she knows what she needs to do and will do it, damn the consequences. as long as she can get away, who cares what she leaves in her wake? that's a problem for future ame.
they stole some brass knockers and a lion! they kidnapped nif to save her from being killed by indri! tof burned bright to free a vrock! suvi heads to war, eursulon and ame TO TOMA! (i almost cried when eursulon said those words and the music swelled. what the fuck, lou. what the FUCK taylor and jared. i'm not okay!!!)
and then of course, brockvale. holly hill. the resting place of sir curran of the hawthorn, who unknowingly sent eursulon on a quest that would lead him to our story. the man in black, the pilgrim under stars, the king of knight, the stranger, holds sir curran's shield. he comes to make an offer. will this poor old guard bid a weary traveler to step over this threshold?
this is why worlds beyond number feels so different to me from other dnd shows and podcasts. these artists have come together with the shared goal of not just playing a fun game that they all enjoy, but with the express aim of crafting a brilliant story. i love a goofy campaign full of shenanigans as much as the next person, but i adore how every choice in this show is given weight and meaning. there are no decisions made for laughs. it doesn't feel like playing a game. it feels like living in the story.
and there are also moments like the ending of this episode. a snapshot of elsewhere in the world, something the players don't know, but the audience gets to. it fills out the edges of the story and provides a richer tapestry of lore and reasoning behind the machinations of those who oppose our heroes. it gives life to the tale.
my heart is beating so fast. this show is incredible. thank you, @worldsbeyondpod , for the world you're creating.

Hello I have just stumbled onto your blog and I absolutely love your art style it's very unique. I love your art of the morphlings would you mind sharing your headcanons and interpretation of them?
Oh yes sure, have written out a whole fic with them so obviously more in detail exploration of them there but anyway can do a quick summary of them
So their names are Maureen Trevi and Cassius Winston.
Maureen winning the 49th Games at age 18 and Cassius winning the 60th games at age 16.
Maureen's arena was a humid forest where she spent most of the game hiding away and poisoning people to win.
Cass' arena was a replica of a European village and he also similarly to her just hid away and just tried his best to avoid trouble.
Maureen was Cass' mentor for his games and they grew really close afterwards. Having a semi sibling bond-ish with one another. Both of them being big art lovers and love bonding together through art.
Here is the fic about them if you are curious to learn more ( X )
