Femme Fatale Beauty Playbook: Tips & Tricks To Feel Clean, Confident & Seductive Daily
Some beauty tips and tricks to feel your best daily.
Starting off with some miscellaneous advice: Coconut oil is the most versatile ingredient – for your hair, skin, nails, and even down there. Find your signature scent (apply it to your clothes instead of your skin whenever possible). Sugar scrubs are the answer to most flakiness or bumps on your skin. B vitamins, vitamin D, and omega-3s are essential to healthy hair, skin, and nails.
Hope this helps xx
Hair:
Shampoo your skull, condition the rest: Focus shampoo on your roots and work it through your scalp; concentrate conditioner on the ends and work your way up until you reach the base of your skull - around your upper ear lobe.
Always comb, never brush, your hair when wet: Gently use a wide-tooth comb, from root to tip, on wet hair to prevent breakage.
Use a special towel to dry your hair: My favorite is from Crown Affair (pricey for what it is but worthwhile in the long-term), but a Turbie Twist from the drugstore works infinitely better than a regular towel that weighs down and causes frizzy, damaged hair
Always use a heat protection spray before blow drying or straightening/curling your hair: (Briogeo and Oribe products are my love for all haircare products, including their blowdry creams – also love R +Co. for a heat protection styling mist).
Choose your hair ties wisely: Use seamless or silk hair ties exclusively to prevent breakage or awkward creases on your hair. Wear a silk scrunchie if you prefer. These hair ties from Amazon are my holy grail (only $7 for 100 hair ties!), and they come in a portable ziplock bag.
Skin:
Always use a disposable cloth when washing your face: Regular towels store bacteria and can cause breakouts too easily. These facial wipes from Amazon are my holy grail.
Wear sunscreen daily: Yes, even when you spend all day indoors. UV rays can interact with your skin through windows, too.
Niacinamide, Vitamin C Hyaluronic Acid, & Tea Tree Oil are among the few skincare ingredients almost everyone should consider incorporating into their skincare routine.
Learn the correct order to apply the products in your skincare routine: Cleanser, Toner, Serum, Eye Cream, Spot Treatment, Moisturizer, Sunscreen (or Retinol/Skin Oil at night).
Remember: From a dermatologist's perspective, your face starts (or ends) at your nipples. So, ensure you're cleansing, exfoliating, and applying sunscreen daily to your neck, chest, and décolletage to keep your skin smooth, youthful, and well-hydrated.
Vaseline is a great (affordable) alternative to traditional eye creams.
Sugar scrub your facial hair for a more gentle alternative to waxing (Combine sugar, lemon, and water). Laser hair removal, especially under your arms and your arms/legs is life-changing.
Follow up a warm shower with a dry brush and coconut oil for smoother, firmer skin.
Always apply a hydrating lip balm, mask, or Vaseline, hand cream, and moisturizer to your feet before going to sleep.
Layer complementary scents. Ensure the scents of body wash, lotion, and perfume work well together and don't clash.
Makeup:
Learn your skin undertones and educate yourself on color theory (I can share a post on this on the Post+ feed if you want some more educational content on these types of topics – I write about them for a living!).
Test any foundation, concealer, or face powder on your wrists, too.
Don't forget to color-match your bronze and blush: They can appear orange or muddy if you don't find a product with the correct shade or undertones for your skin type.
Invest in products that go on your face, brow products, and eyeliners. Great mascaras and lip products are easy to find at a drugstore or relatively cheap (I suggest Covergirl and d NYX, respectively).
Apply concealer in a triangle; don't dot it around your eyes for better coverage.
If you have oily skin (or it's humid outside), apply powder before your liquid/cream products. Set them again with a light powder to lock the color in.
Apply mascara from tip to base for the best lashes of your life: One coat on the tip, another from middle to tip, and the last coat from base to tip.
In a pinch, use a fragrance-free moisturizer and a q-tip to remove excess makeup (no more raccoon eyes).
Use a light nude or white eyeshadow underneath your brow to make them appear more defined.
Apply face powder under your eyes to help the eyeliner on your waterline last longer.
Create a simple daily makeup routine formula: 1 skin coverage (foundation/concealer), 1 skin color (a favorite blush or bronzer), brows, mascara, an eye-definer (eyeliner or shadow), and a signature "your lips but better" lip shade (1-2 shades deeper or lighter than your natural lip color): This formula provides you the basics, so you never have an excuse not to put yourself together for the day (5-10 minute routine here).
Discover your day-to-night hero product: Always keep a slightly deeper lipstick, a smoky eyeshadow, or liquid liner in your bag to transition your day look into the evening with one portable product.

I love asking people this
If you were on a boat (all survival and important tools and food provided already) what six items would you take? (I.e guitar or whatnot)
OOOH, I LOVE THIS. seeing as all vital tools are provided, i am here gathering items to not die of another horrible fate: boredom. so, first, i'd take my macrame thread. trying knots is time consuming and fun, so that should keep me occupied. then, i'd obviously take my one of my notebooks in case of a sudden revelation and a need to write it down to avoid the revelation getting swallowed up by my highly forgetful brain (i have a sketchbook, a journal and a poetry notebooks that i usually take with me, but seeing i have a six items limit i'd go for one of them. probably the sketchbook tbh) and a pen (counted as a seperate object because having a pen is highly entertaining to me too because i can do a bunch of pen spinning tricks and i find it very fun). so, that's three items. i think i'd take my very old ipad seeing as it can hold battery for a long long time if you use it for reading. probably sunscreen idk if that counts for survival tools, but there is no way im sitting on that boat without uv protection. probably a hat for the same reason: i wear glasses, and i cant see very well under the sun without the shade and i can't wear sunglasses because i am already wearing glasses. would suck to waste two spaces on this if the day i'm on a boat is not sunny, but not taking any chances. finally, a rock. like, a heavy one. it can a) act as a wonderful self defence weapon in case there's someone unpleasant on the boat with me b) can allow me to escape the boat if the boredom gets too bad (drowning) final item: a bug repellent spray. not very huge on bugs, you see
what about you? :D

Soft asks please!
peaches - do you have a skincare routine?
kiss - have you ever kissed a friend?
sapphos - favorite poet?
I am a skincare junkie and collect/use a lot of products; my routine changes accordingly. I recommend putting sunscreen on every day, even my sensitive skin can handle bioré uv aqua rich, now that it's finally come to Canada!
I have kissed a friend, and now I'm kissing you, dear anon!
I love W. B. Yeats, and have always been haunted by The Stolen Child (1889). Excerpt:
Come away, O human child! To the waters and the wild With a faery, hand in hand, For the world's more full of weeping than you can understand.
He was admitted into a secret society and took the magical motto Daemon est Deus inversus—translated as 'Devil is God inverted'.
And I just think that's cool.

What is sunburn? Why does tanning give you skin cancer? The answer has to do with how UV rays fuck up your DNA.
There are three types of UV light: A, B, and C. UVC is absorbed in the atmosphere. UVA and UVB are what sunscreen protects against because they do the damage to your skin. Why do they do damage? UV light has a lot of energy, which can cause the bonds between molecules to change.
Onto DNA. This is the instructions for how to make you. It's made of nucleotides, four of them: Adenosine, Guanine, Cytosine, and Thymine. Thymine and Cytosine are what we call pyrimadines (the other two are called purines). Normally, in double-stranded DNA (that beautiful helix) a pyrimadine on one strand is paired with a purine from the other to make a "rung on the ladder" of dsDNA. (A goes to T and C goes to G).
What happens when UV light penetrates the skin and hits DNA? A pyrimadine dimer. So what this means is that two pyrimadines (usually Thymines) on the same strand have disconnected from their purines and bonded to each other. This creates a weird knob on the strand, and is a type of DNA lesion. Lesions can induce other mutations in the code. The dimer cannot be read by enzymes correctly either. This is all very bad, and can lead to cancer. Cancer = mutation
How do we fix this? So this is happening all the time. 100x per cell per second that your skin is exposed to sunlight. But we aren't all riddled with skin cancer because of Nucleotide Excision Repair. This is a form of DNA repair where the shitty nucleotides (the two bonded pyrimadines) are cut out. DNA polymerase synthesizes a new segment of DNA, and DNA ligase attatches it all back together. Now your DNA is fixed.
What happens when NER doesn't work? Very bad things. One condition where this repair pathway is impaired is Xeroderma pigmentosum. These people cannot repair damage from UV light and develop severe sunburns from only minutes in the sun. They will also get skin cancer and cataracts. Historically, people with this disease have been referred to as vampires, as they can only go out at night. Just shows how important your DNA repair mechanisms are and how much work they do around the clock.

vegan vitamin d
Tumblr media
everything you need to know about vitamin d
Most vegans are aware of the importance of vitamin B12 supplements, but vitamin D is often overlooked. Vitamin D is essential for the absorption of calcium.
This is the main reason that many calcium supplements also contain vitamin D. Calcium is needed to reduce bone loss and maintain bone strength and prevents the development of osteoporosis in older adults. Insufficient amounts of calcium and/or vitamin D in the diet may lead to rickets in children.
sources of vitamin d
Vitamin D is found in certain foods and in supplements. Our bodies also produce it after exposure to the sun.
Very few foods are naturally rich in vitamin D; eggs contain some, but oily fish such as sardines, mackerel, pilchards, tuna and salmon are more substantial.
Plant based vitamin D is found in mushrooms and other fungus as well as lichen (if treated with UV rays).
Because there are so few natural dietary sources, vitamin D is added to foods such as soya milk, orange juice, breakfast cereals, cow's milk and margarine.
The vegan diet contains little, if any, vitamin D, so fortified foods or supplements are essential.
types of vitamin d
There are two types of vitamin D. Vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol) is a synthetic, vegan form of vitamin D, derived from irradiated mushrooms and other fungus as well as lichen.
Vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) is not vegan, as it is derived from lanolin, obtained from sheep's wool.
Many fortified foods and drinks contain vitamin D3, so it is important to check which type has been used.
However, vegans need to be aware of the shortcomings of vitamin D2.
Experts claim that Vitamin D2 is a far inferior form of Vitamin D that is not absorbed into the body well:
“Vitamin D3 is the most biologically active form of vitamin D. Research has shown that vitamin D3 is better absorbed and utilized than D2. Studies have consistently shown that, functionally, vitamin D3 is at least 300% more effective than D2.” Dr. Edward Group DC, NP, DACBN, DCBCN, DABFM.
Vegan vitamin D3 supplements manufactured from lichens and mushrooms are now available. However, there have been claims that they are “fed” on non – vegan D3.
Besides vitamin D from food and supplements, our bodies are able to make vitamin D3 when our skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays from sunlight.
how much vitamin d do we need?
maintenance dose
from supplements
The recommended dose of vitamin D is 600IU per day in adults aged 19 – 70 and 800 IU per day for adults aged 71 and older. (The Food and Nutrition Board of the Institute of Medicine)
from sunlight
Our bodies will produce sufficient amounts of vitamin D3 from 10 to 15 minutes of UV B exposure, without sunscreen, at least twice a week to the face, arms, legs or back. People with darker skin will need to spend longer in the sun to produce the same amount of vitamin D.
therapeutic dose
from supplements
In the case of vitamin D deficiency, an oral dose of 50,000 IU of vitamin D once a week for up to 8 weeks is recommended. To maintain vitamin D sufficiency, the patient should receive 50,000 IU of vitamin D once or twice a month thereafter. (The National Institutes of Health)
Vitamin D 2 must be prescribed by a medical practitioner.
from sunlight
If you are deficient in vitamin D, the recommended therapeutic sun exposure is 15 minutes at least once a day for 8 weeks.
vitamin d from uv rays - precautions & additional information
It is recommended that in the first few days, you limit your exposure to the sun to a few minutes to allow your body time to produce protective pigmentation to help protect against overexposure.
There is no risk of your body making too much vitamin D from sun exposure. Exposing yourself for longer is unlikely to provide any additional benefits.
It is prudent to limit exposure to UV rays to that which is necessary for your health. UV radiation is a carcinogen responsible for most skin cancers and deaths due to metastatic melanoma.
UVB cannot pass through glass, so sun through a house or car window will not produce vitamin D.
The sun must be above an angle of 45 degrees for it to provide vitamin D, so in the winter months the sun is not strong enough to provide any useful vitamin D.
During this time, we get vitamin D from our body's stores, which are built up during the summer, and from food sources. Vegans may need to take a supplement to ensure that their vitamin D levels are maintained.
mobile app:
calculate your Vitamin D requirements:
https://itunes.apple.com/za/app/vitamin-d-calculator/id484286798?mt=8
conclusion
Vegans who do not get much exposure to the sun or those with darker skins are at risk for a vitamin D deficiency. It is recommended that they see their doctor to request a 25-hydroxy vitamin D test.
It appears that the most efficient source of vitamin D for vegans is sunlight. If this is not feasible, supplementation with vegan vitamin D2 is, if not the best source, the next best cruelty free source.

Ogham Meditations: The First Aicme
Tumblr media
I've been doing some meditations on each ogham fid, or letter, and I thought I'd post them here. The translations for each fid and their keyword come from Erynn Rowan Laurie's Ogam: Weaving Word Wisdom. Everything else is my own thought.
(Note, there's some inconsistencies in my writing, as I only wrote summaries of my meditations in my journal for Beith, Fern, and Sail, and Lus and Nin I didn't write down at all and had to redo. The fifteen letters after this one will be more consistent.)
Beith - B
Tumblr media
(bayth) Meaning: Birch Keyword: Purification
What are the benefits of cleanliness? It helps prevent you from getting sick, of course, but also it has great effects on the mind. Clear spaces help me think more easily, and I remember how eager I was to shower again when I couldn't for three weeks after top surgery!
Spiritual cleanliness is also helpful. Energetic residue can interfere with one's day. I know from first hand experience that not grounding properly before and after trance can leave me in a state very similar to sub drop. House spirits also like it when the house is clean!
However, I mostly associate purity with negative things. Sterile environments are very difficult and costly to maintain, and should in my opinion be reserved for those who need it most. Trying to cultivate a "pure" spiritual practice leads very quickly to folkism and white supremacy.
Like many things, it comes down to balance.
Lus - L
Tumblr media
(loosh) Meaning: Herb or Flame Keyword: Inspiration
Inspiration, from the herb or the flame. Awen. Imbas. Flow state. Making. It all feels so easy, then. Orange yellow flame. Fire in the head. Spirit above. Inspiration comes easily to me. I'm an ideas guy.
How does one seek inspiration? By experiencing. Each experience or piece of art is like striking flint. Eventually, there's a spark.
Experience. Take in the senses. Be in the world. Share art. Lower inhibitions where it's safe. Feel.
Life. The inner spark, the mysterious thing that took a soup of hydrocarbons and made it alive. Every cell has an inner fire, is burning fuel for energy.
Spark. Flame. Imbas. Inner drive. Life and consciousness. Creation is inspiration and thought made manifest. Feel. Spark. Plan. Make. Reflect. Water, fire, air, earth, water again.
Inspiration is the beginning. The call. We must all start somewhere.
Fern - F
Tumblr media
(fairn) Meaning: Alder Keyword: Protection
The protection of Fern is often necessary. Think of bundling up in the winter to protect from the cold, or sunscreen to protect from UV rays. People protect themselves from others by altering their behaviour based on who they're interacting with. This includes masking as neurodivergent people.
However, there are restrictions to having shields up at all times. Warm clothing restricts movement. In order to bond with people, there is some amount of vulnerability required. Having safe spaces where shields can be let down, like a warm house, are necessary.
Sail - S
Tumblr media
(sahl) Meaning: Willow Keyword: Flow
Going with the flow is not always helpful. Sometimes, resistance is necessary. I think about Nuada allowing for the tyranny of the Fomorians before the coming of Lugh. However, surviving is also resistance, sometimes! Perhaps sometimes people need to wait for the right moment to act. That discernment is often difficult.
And really, how good does it feel to stop trying to do what I think I should be doing and just be? To stop fighting my weaknesses and play to my strengths? Going with the flow of nature does and has felt so, so good.
Nin - N
Tumblr media
(nihn) Meaning: Letters or Support Keyword: Connection
Connection. Contract, written, oath given. First numbers and letters in human language were to make accounts for trade. The weaver's beam. We are social creatures. We need each other. We are stronger together. We give and take so many times that it cannot be accounted for. To trust is to not account.
Diplomacy. Marriage. Oath. Family, blood and fostered. Community. I help bring people together. I'm scared of rejection, but I crave connection. I want people to like me the way that I like people.
I want to share and spread joy, to facilitate in the spreading of joy.
A gay bar. Dagda's cauldron. Somewhere to gather. May none leave unsatisfied.
No one deserves to be left alone.

The ABCs of Skin Health - A Dermatology Primer
Dr. Daniel Kessel
A. stands for "Assess". The first step in achieving optimum skin health is to assess. It's about understanding your skin's unique needs, identifying trouble spots, and addressing any concerns you may have. This step is crucial and should ideally be done under the guidance of an experienced dermatologist. At Kessel Dermatology, the team of experts takes the time to thoroughly assess each individual's skin condition, providing a solid foundation for a personalized skincare regimen. With their comprehensive skin assessment, you will be empowered to make informed decisions about your skin health journey.
Anatomy of the Skin
Before delving into the intricacies of skin health, it's crucial to understand the basic anatomy of the skin. The skin is the body's largest organ, and it consists of three primary layers: the epidermis, dermis, and subcutaneous tissue. The epidermis is the outermost layer and serves as a protective shield. It constantly renews itself, shedding dead skin cells and replacing them with new ones.
B. stands for "Balance". Achieving balance in your skin care regimen is essential. It involves the right mix of cleansing, toning, moisturizing, and protecting your skin against harmful elements. Notably, balance also relates to the internal aspects of your life, such as maintaining a balanced diet and ensuring proper hydration. These factors significantly impact the health and appearance of your skin. At Kessel Dermatology, we believe in the concept of balance and strive to instill this philosophy in our patients. We educate our patients about the importance of balance in skin care, helping them to understand how the right combination of dermatological treatments and lifestyle habits can lead to healthier, more radiant skin.
Understanding Skin Types
Not all skin is created equal. Different individuals have different skin types, which can significantly affect how their skin behaves and reacts to various factors. The most common skin types are normal, oily, dry, and combination. Understanding your skin type is crucial for selecting the right skincare products and routines.
Normal skin typically has a good balance of oil and moisture, with few imperfections. Oily skin tends to produce excess sebum, which can lead to acne and shine. Dry skin lacks moisture and can be prone to flakiness, redness, and irritation. Combination skin exhibits characteristics of more than one skin type in different areas of the face. Determining your skin type can help you tailor your skincare regimen for optimal results.
Basic Skincare Routine
Maintaining healthy skin starts with a basic skincare routine. Regardless of your skin type, there are essential steps to follow. Cleansing is the first step, and it involves removing dirt, oil, and impurities from the skin. Choose a gentle cleanser that won't strip your skin of its natural oils.
Next, moisturize your skin to keep it hydrated and supple. Even if you have oily skin, a lightweight, oil-free moisturizer can help balance the skin's moisture levels. Sunscreen is a must to protect your skin from the harmful effects of UV radiation. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen with at least SPF 30, and reapply as needed throughout the day.
Common Skin Conditions
Dermatologists frequently treat a wide range of skin conditions. Some of the most common issues include:
Acne: Acne is a skin condition that affects many people, especially during adolescence. It results from clogged hair follicles, excess oil production, and bacterial overgrowth. Dermatologists can recommend treatments ranging from topical creams to oral medications to help manage acne.
Eczema: Eczema, or atopic dermatitis, is characterized by itchy, inflamed skin. It often appears in childhood but can affect people of all ages. Dermatologists can provide guidance on managing eczema through moisturizers, topical steroids, and lifestyle changes.
Psoriasis: Psoriasis is a chronic autoimmune condition that leads to the rapid growth of skin cells, causing scaling and redness. Dermatologists offer various treatments, including topical medications, light therapy, and systemic medications, to manage psoriasis.
Skin Cancer: Skin cancer is a serious concern, with melanoma being the most dangerous type. Dermatologists play a critical role in early detection and treatment. Regular skin checks are essential for spotting suspicious moles or lesions that may be cancerous.
Preventing Skin Aging
Aging is a natural process that affects the skin over time. Factors like genetics, sun exposure, and lifestyle choices can accelerate the aging process. To maintain youthful, healthy skin, consider the following tips:
Sun Protection: The sun's UV rays are a leading cause of premature aging. Protect your skin by wearing sunscreen daily and seeking shade when outdoors.
Healthy Lifestyle: A balanced diet, regular exercise, and proper hydration can contribute to overall skin health. Smoking and excessive alcohol consumption can accelerate aging and should be avoided.
Skincare: Use anti-aging skincare products that contain ingredients like retinol and antioxidants. These can help reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.
Hydration: Keeping your skin well-hydrated is essential for a youthful appearance. Use a high-quality moisturizer and drink plenty of water to maintain skin elasticity.
Consulting a Dermatologist
C. stands for "Consultation". A critical step in maintaining skin health is scheduling regular consultations with a trusted dermatologist. These sessions allow for routine skin evaluations, enabling early detection and treatment of potential issues. They also provide an opportunity for patients to discuss their skin health goals and concerns, and to receive professional advice tailored to their unique needs. At Kessel Dermatology, we highly value these consultations. Our team works in close collaboration with our patients, guiding them through their skin health journey with expert advice, empathy, and understanding. We believe that active, open dialogues about skin health are essential for fostering a proactive approach to dermatological care.
In conclusion, the ABCs of skin health - Assessment, Balance, and Consultation - are more than just steps; they represent a comprehensive approach to maintaining and enhancing the health of your skin. Remember, your journey to healthy skin begins with understanding your skin's unique needs, maintaining a balanced skincare regimen, and regularly consulting with a trusted dermatologist. At Kessel Dermatology, we are committed to guiding you through this journey, providing expert care and advice tailored to your specific needs. Healthy skin is not just about aesthetics; it's an integral part of your overall health, and it deserves your attention and care and Kessel Dermatology is the place where all of crucial things for a healthy skin are combined.

The use of a covered mask, sunglasses, and long-sleeved cloth also protects the skin from UV rays.
2. Topical Medication: Topical medicine plays a significant role in treating melasma. It is applied directly to the surface of the skin and improves the skin tone. Topical remedies are effective when they are used along with sun protection.

There are several types of laser therapy used for treatment. It includes fractional lasers, intense pulsed light lasers, and Q-switched lasers. Fractional lasers reduce the melasma by producing excessive collagen and breaking the pigment. Intense pulsed light uses various wavelengths of light for effective results. Correct Way To Apply Sunblock!
I certainly know how to make use of sunscreen/ sunblock. Every person understands how exactly sunscreen/ sunblock is applied! You might think why is it a big deal about knowing the right way to apply sunblock/sunscreen? Dr. Debraj Shome is likely to spout a spiel on sunscreen use. It’s not much of an importance! Maybe it is. Let us talk about this a bit more in detail.
1) When a person is exposed to ultraviolet light, UVA or UVB, from sunshine, 90% of the symptoms of early signs of aging like scars or wrinkles & Skin Cancers. The absolute most crucial skin-care item available to avoid lines and wrinkles / facial outlines and epidermis cancer tumors is sunscreen (the best anti-aging therapy), but many individuals do not utilize sunscreen properly. As we understand, nowadays because of a great deal of toxins present in the environment; ozone holes are being developed and are steadily enlarging in the ozone layer surrounding the planet. For this reason, several harmful rays like UV-A, and UV-B are penetrating the ozone layer to fall on the Earth’s area. These rays are the primary cause of different skin conditions and deadly skin cancers. For this reason, to protect the individual skin from these harmful rays, several various sunscreen creams (best sunscreen / unblock items) are today available in the market.
2) It’s typical understanding that anybody going out into the sunlight in the summertime should put on sunscreen, but numerous men and women don’t consider that whenever they go outside during the winter or whenever they remain inside, for example near the screen. Also in the winter, the epidermis is exposed to UVA and UVB rays and we are much more likely to stay out in the open longer when the climate is cooler or also overcast. This causes us to get much more exposed to harmful rays than we would be during summertime. Likewise, UV-A rays are existent even in the room (since they can enter through the screen) therefore while sitting near the window might not offer you skin cancer tumors, it sure can be accountable for causing increased melanin development in your skin and increased tanning (skin pigmentation), a fact to consider seriously in parts of Africa & Asia which are ‘tan-phobic’. Therefore, regular sunscreen use may be the absolute most healthy & best epidermis lightening therapy. UV exposure has harmful impacts on our skin in a wide variety of means. The risk of skin cancer tumors is incredibly strong with prolonged exposure. Short-term exposure can cause wrinkles, dryness, and aging of the skin.
3) Important factors to think about with sunscreen usage are the range of UV radiation being absorbed, the quantity of sunscreen used, and the regularity of application.
4) UV Radiation
The sunlight gives out ultraviolet (UV) radiation that we divide into groups depending on the wavelength. UVC radiation is consumed by the environment and does not cause damage to the skin. UVB radiation affects the external layer of skin, the epidermis, and is the main representative accountable for sunburns. UVB does perhaps not enter through glass, and the strength of UVB radiation depends on the season and the time of the day. UVA radiation penetrates deeper into the skin and works much more effectively. The strength of UVA radiation is much more constant than UVB without the variants throughout the 12 months and during the day. UVA is additionally not filtered by glass.
5) Sunscreen Ingredients
Sunscreen/sunblock components can be split into substances that physically block radiation or substances that absorb radiation. The radiation blockers are extremely effective at reducing skin exposure to both UVA and UVB radiation. Older formulations like zinc oxide are opaque and may be cosmetically unsatisfactory. Nevertheless, a more recent formula of micronized titanium dioxide is perhaps not as opaque and provides excellent protection. The radiation taken in components is differentiated by the kind of radiation they absorb – UVA absorbers and UVB absorbers.
6) Choosing the Proper Sunscreen – What’s Sun Protection Factor (SPF)?
The SPF measures the quantity of UVB absorption, but there isn’t any technique for reporting the UVA absorption. The only means to figure out if a sunscreen protects against UVA and UVB radiation is to look at the components. A great broad-spectrum sunscreen should have an SPF of a minimum of 30 and include titanium dioxide, avobenzone, or zinc oxide.
7) Applying Sunscreen / Sunblock in an appropriate manner
Many men and women utilize sunscreen improperly by perhaps not applying it in a sufficient amount. They use just 25% to 50% of the suggested amount. Sunscreen should be used liberally sufficient to all areas that are exposed to the sun, such that it forms a film whenever used at first. It takes 20-30 minutes for sunscreen to get absorbed by the skin, so it should be used at least half an hour before going out in the sunlight. Sunscreen should additionally be the final item used particularly on the face, since some sunscreens can break down in the existence of water included in water-based moisturizers and foundations.
8) Reapplying Sunscreen / Sunblock
Many directions on sunscreen labels suggest reapplying sunscreen “frequently”, but the meaning of “frequently” is vague. A typical instruction is to reapply sunscreen after 2-4 hours in the sunlight. Nevertheless, one research feature showed that reapplying sunscreen 20 to 30 moments after being in the sunlight is much more effective than waiting 2 hours. It’s feasible that this time duration is much more effective because many men and women do not apply sufficient sunscreen at first, and this 2nd application approximates the real quantity required. Sunscreen should additionally be reapplied after swimming, excessive sweating, or toweling.
9) Everyday Sunscreen
Sunscreen should be used each day. The day-to-day usage of a low-SPF sunscreen (15) features been shown to be much more effective in avoiding harm to the skin than the periodic use of a greater SPF sunscreen.
10) Sunscreen and Insect Repellents
Pest repellents reduce the sunscreen’s SPF by up to one-third. Whenever utilizing sunscreen and pest repellent together, a greater SPF should be utilized and reapplied more commonly.
Therefore, in conclusion, in purchase to protect your epidermis, utilize a sunscreen/sunblock cream that has an SPF score of a minimum of 30, greater if you mean to be out for lengthy durations. Keep your epidermis safeguarded with these creams whenever you are out in the sunshine. Re-use sunscreen if you sweat or stay out in the sun much longer, focusing on an application every few hours or so. If you’re exposed to sunshine more than others, for example as a regular flier or a pilot, utilize it more often. Some sunscreens may feel hefty or gluey, look for an item that seems comfortable on your skin so you won’t resist utilizing it. To guarantee complete security use the one that is broad spectrum in order. Whatever you utilize, clean it on a day-to-day basis and change it with a quality lotion while you are out of the sun’s impact. This will make sure that your skin will remain well moisturized and protected, thereby hindering the aging process prematurely.
Keep in mind, breathtaking youthful people are accidents of nature, but stunning elderly people are works of a lifetime of caring sufficient!

Seasonal Supplement Tips: What to Take During Different Times of the Year
As the seasons change, so do the needs of our bodies. Just as we adjust our wardrobes to suit the weather, we should also consider adjusting our supplement intake to support our health throughout the year. Each season brings unique challenges and opportunities for our health, and the right supplements can help us navigate these changes effectively. Here’s a comprehensive guide on what supplements to consider during different times of the year.
Spring: Renewal and Detoxification
Spring is a time of renewal and rejuvenation, making it an ideal season to focus on detoxifying the body and boosting energy levels after the sluggish winter months.
Vitamin C: Essential for immune support and collagen production, vitamin C can help protect against springtime colds and allergies. Citrus fruits, strawberries, and bell peppers are great sources, but a supplement ensures consistent intake.
Probiotics: As we transition from winter to spring, it’s a good idea to support gut health. Probiotics can help balance the gut microbiome, improve digestion, and enhance immune function. Look for a high-quality probiotic with multiple strains.
Milk Thistle: Known for its liver-supporting properties, milk thistle can aid in detoxification. It helps the liver process toxins more efficiently, which is beneficial during a spring cleanse.
Spirulina: This blue-green algae is packed with nutrients, including protein, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants. Spirulina can boost energy, support detoxification, and enhance overall health.
Summer: Energy and Hydration
Summer brings warmer weather, more outdoor activities, and increased exposure to the sun. It’s important to stay hydrated and protect the skin while maintaining energy levels.
Electrolytes: With higher temperatures and increased physical activity, maintaining electrolyte balance is crucial. Supplements containing sodium, potassium, magnesium, and calcium can prevent dehydration and muscle cramps.
Vitamin E: This antioxidant helps protect the skin from UV damage. While sunscreen is a must, vitamin E supplements can provide additional protection and support skin health.
Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Found in fish oil, omega-3s reduce inflammation and support heart health. They also help maintain skin hydration and elasticity, which is important during the drying summer months.
B Vitamins: The B vitamins, especially B12 and B6, play a crucial role in energy production. They can help combat fatigue and keep energy levels high during the active summer season.
Autumn: Immune Support and Transition
As the weather cools and we transition into autumn, it’s important to bolster the immune system and prepare the body for the colder months ahead.
Vitamin D: With less sunlight exposure, vitamin D levels can drop. Supplementing with vitamin D supports immune function, bone health, and mood regulation.
Zinc: An essential mineral for immune health, zinc can help reduce the severity and duration of colds. It’s especially useful as we enter cold and flu season.
Elderberry: Known for its immune-boosting properties, elderberry can help prevent and alleviate cold and flu symptoms. Look for elderberry extract or syrup for an effective supplement.
Turmeric: This spice contains curcumin, a powerful anti-inflammatory compound. Turmeric can help manage inflammation and support overall health as the body adjusts to cooler temperatures.
Winter: Warmth and Immunity
Winter is a time when our bodies need extra warmth and robust immune support to fend off illnesses and stay healthy.
Vitamin C: Once again, vitamin C is essential for immune support during the winter months. It helps protect against colds and flu, which are more prevalent during this time.
Vitamin D: Given the reduced sunlight exposure, continuing vitamin D supplementation is crucial for maintaining immune health and preventing seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
Echinacea: This herb is known for its immune-boosting properties. Echinacea supplements can help prevent colds and reduce the severity of symptoms if you do get sick.
Magnesium: Magnesium supports over 300 biochemical reactions in the body, including muscle and nerve function, energy production, and immune response. It’s also known to improve sleep quality, which can be disrupted during the long winter nights.
Iron: Iron is vital for energy production and immune function. Winter often brings fatigue, and maintaining adequate iron levels can help keep energy levels up and support overall health.
Year-Round Essentials
While seasonal adjustments are important, certain supplements are beneficial year-round to maintain overall health and well-being.
Multivitamins: A high-quality multivitamin ensures you’re getting a broad spectrum of essential vitamins and minerals, filling in any nutritional gaps in your diet.
Fish Oil/Omega-3 Fatty Acids: Omega-3s are crucial for heart health, brain function, and reducing inflammation. Taking a fish oil supplement year-round can support overall health.
Probiotics: Maintaining a healthy gut microbiome is important regardless of the season. Probiotics support digestion, immune function, and overall health.
Magnesium: This mineral is vital for muscle and nerve function, energy production, and overall health. It’s beneficial to supplement with magnesium year-round, especially if you have a deficiency.
Adaptogens: Herbs like ashwagandha, rhodiola, and ginseng help the body adapt to stress. They support overall health and well-being and can be taken throughout the year to manage stress levels.
Conclusion
Adjusting your supplement routine with the changing seasons can help optimize your health and well-being. By understanding the unique challenges each season brings and choosing supplements that support your body’s needs, you can stay healthy and vibrant all year long. Always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new supplement regimen to ensure it’s appropriate for your individual health needs.
