Paranoia & NPD culture is worrying that people will try to impersonate you to steal your praise and attention, as well as to ruin your image. You worry that they’ll pretend to be you and purposely do something to make you look bad and be hated, but no one will believe you when you try to defend yourself and say it’s (clearly) not you. Then this person, after defaming you, will swoop in to steal your spot now that they’ve knocked you down off your pedestal. These impersonators either want to be you because you’re so cool, or they want to tarnish your reputation because you’re that cool. It makes you question whether you want to be popular or not because the paranoia would be too much to handle. So many people would be trying to steal your power because they envy you or want to be you. Why can’t they just stay in their place? You want to be popular, you sometimes fantasize about it, but the main thing stopping you is your irrational fears. What if these people steal from you? They steal your work and claim it as their own? And they refuse to give it back and make money off of it— or worse yet, people don’t believe that it’s yours and they believe the faker is you. You fear being impersonated and stolen from so much to the point where you gladly choose to suffer through crashes rather than deal with the stress of being popular. Would it be nice to be adored and admired? Yes. Would it be nice to be harassed and betrayed? No. Someone, probably from the opposing side, would try to usurp me. I can’t let them take and claim what is rightfully mine. If they all can’t behave, then no one gets to have you. They don’t deserve it if they’re going to act like that.
